This has been one of our favorite places in the area. The food is usually fresh and very tasty, and the place is sorta hip for Chesterton. The problem is that they nickel and dime you to death, and tonight was the last straw. I spent $20 on two Constantinople sandwiches and one bowl of soup that was on special for $1. The sandwiches (in a pita) no longer come with rice (first bummer), then we each got a tiny scoop of chicken from the bottom of the warming tray (second bummer), then we added rice to one of the sandwiches but were not informed that we would be up-charged $2 (third bummer). My son got a gluten free pita which is great, but always costs another $2. Not sure why, maybe to compensate for the lack of chicken and rice, we got extra purple cabbage that made the sandwich taste bad and actually bled through the pita which made my sandwich fall apart. Oh, and my pita was not heated up so it was cold. To top it off, the chips that came with the sandwich were burnt and tasted like crap. Lately when we come here we have one issue or another but tonight there were many issues, so much so that we won't be going back. It's a shame because there is nothing like this in our area. A big fan of Mediterranean food, I was excited to see Lemon Tree open up in my hometown. In the few weeks it's been opened, I've been delighted to go there perhaps ten times for my favorite, the moist falafel that's bursting with flavor. For a quick meal, I've just gotten the falafel by itself with a side of hummus; but for a more filling meal, the falafel wrap is a filling meal at a reasonable price. The prices of the items I've enjoyed are much more reasonable than the places where I've had falafel at in Michigan City and Valparaiso, making it easy to want to go back time and time again. Their hummus is particularly memorable and they make their own chips, which are light and crunchy without being greasy. I wish I could make ice tea like they do...it's a special flavor I haven't experienced before..a real treat for the taste buds. This is the third restaurant that has been housed in the storefront since Subway moved to a larger facility, and it's by far the best. Lemon Tree, owned by the same people who own Third Coast Spice Cafe, is a real blessing to the community and it deserves the patronage of everyone who wants something different from the typical chain restaurant fare that inhabits much of Indian Boundary, just off Route 49 from I-94. read more

First of all, the food is good but way overpriced. Lastnight my boyfriend and I went to Lemon Tree to get some food to-go. I had a coupon on the Entertainment book app for $5 off an entree with the purchase of another and a drink. I told the girl about it at the register and showed it to her and she asked if I could print it out. So confused by her question, I looked around and said "No...?" She proceeded to say that they cannot take mobile coupons because they need a printed one for their records (or something ridiculous like that). So not only are they over priced but they won't accept coupons either. Don't make coupons available via mobile phones if you're not going to accept them. That just irritates people. We also sat there for 10+ minutes waiting for our food. To top it all off...quite literally in this case, they forgot to add our sauces at the end. read more

The worst dining experience of 2019! The place reeks of poor sanitation from the moment you enter the door. (The first sign.) Classic example of not following your 1st mind and walking out ther door. However after traveling so far i decided to ignore that sign. BIG MISTAKE!!! I ordered my meal and decided to dine in. While eating I picked up my pitta and discovered bugs crawling in my plate. Best fast Mediterranean food I have had in a long time. Staff was extremely friendly. Everything was delicious and freshly made. The falafel was cooked when we ordered it. The portions were huge, everything was flavorful, and the menu was unique. I loved how they grilled the vegetables to order and I loved that I could see the meats being cooked in front of me. Nice change of pace from the fast food meal at just a tiny bit more then the fast food price. Worth a try. Pick either a rice bowl, salad or a wrap. Then add your protein veggies and a side. We used to really like this restaurant driving through northwest Indiana. We went back today for the first time in a few months and boy has it slipped. The chicken Sharma was incredibly dry. The rice tasted old and the portions have shrunk to a point that it's really pricey. The piece of pita bread was old and stale too. To top it off, it was very cold in the restaurant. We thought Middle Eastern Food sounded good for lunch and this place had good ratings and it is close enough to Chicago to be authentic, oh how wrong we were. When we arrived, the OPEN sign wasn't lit, which should've been a warning but we saw movement inside and took a chance. The menu is confusing with bowls and wraps and add-ons. The staff seemed confused and were not helpful. We ended up ordering chicken shawarma pita sandwiches $7.95 which is usually a safe and consistent choice and a side of falafel. Each sandwich had about three minuscule pieces of desiccated leather dry flavorless white meat chicken and a fair amount of red cabbage salad in a stone cold stale pita bread, also included was a paper bag of "house-made" potato chips that were house-made but were flavorless, unsalted and the floppy stale texture suggested that they may have been made the day before or prior. The falafel wasn't given to us and we had to ask for them and they nastily replied that they took longer, which could have been explained, once the falafel arrived, it was acceptable but included none of the usual tahini sauce accompaniment. The overall taste and business model of this place suggests that the owner is not Middle Eastern and is not very familiar with better Middle Eastern Food. read more

Portions are very small. They skimp on the cheapest of food like rice, sauces, meats. Falafel wasn't very good, tasteless practically. Mine were tasted like they've been sitting for awhile. When asked for fresh ones she threw back in the deep fryer. It's bizarre how they serve hummus and tabouleh - in plastic cups. They should visit other Mediterranean restaurants and see how hummus should be served - with a pool of olive oil. At least this type of service looks nicer. So this hands down has to be my favorite restaurant mediterrranean restaurant I have ever been to and I have eaten at many places all over the country. I literally ate at this restaurant six times in three days time. Unfortunately, I have developed a slight "addiction" to their the items on their menu. The chicken kabobs and grilled vegetables are my favorite and each time they have been grilled to perfection. The chicken was tender and flavorful. I also have had tried falafel and and jessie l. was dead on in her description. Not sure Melody M. ate at the same restaurant because not only my boyfriend and I, but I heard a group next to us murmuring about the blend of spices used to marinate the food. The spicy yogurt sauce and the garlicky garlic is a must try. Each time I have gone to the restaurant there has been a line of people waiting to devour their next meal. The food here is mostly good but their service and policies leave little to be desired. They are generally slow to make the food and lack a sense of urgency. We were previously denied use of a coupon and now they didn't even honor their eight meal punch card. They're also very pricy. Won't go back. I would give this restaurant 5 stars when they opened up. The food was great and plenty of it. Staff was polite and friendly. We couldn't get enough of this place! Now, few years later, everything is going down south. Portions are so small that if you order small bowl of rice and steak and two sides you can easily fit it all in one measuring cup. I don't think this little food should cost 10 bucks. People say that this is happening because of portion inconsistency- depends on who is serving you. Well, not a good excuse. They are trying to cut corners everywhere and it shows. They also have a punch card with a free bowl when you buy so many meals. Something similar to DQ. Well, when you get to your free meal they punch it but don't give you the free bowl- you have to wait until your next visit to the restaurant. Meaning you have to hold on to your card and if you lose it - too bad. Two sides are not offered although you pay for it. When you bring it to servers attention they say that most people don't like 2 sides. Really?! I am paying for it so I would like to have it.
