Great place!! Had dinner reservations for 6:45 PM and was promptly seated upon arrival. Hostess was very pleasant and very professional. Live piano added a very nice touch to the evening. Service was prompt and focused the entire meal. Waiter did a fantastic job of explaining the entire menu and various offerings without taking up half the evening to do so. He knew his stuff. Before-dinner cocktails and mocktails were amazing and refreshing. Filet mignon was excellent as was the lobster bisque, NY strip, veal and bouillabaisse. All cooked perfectly. I had such an amazing dinner on new years! Leo's really rolled out the red carpet for our family. we didn't have to worry about anything and all of the food was awesome! Been here on several occasions and really enjoyed each time. They have valet and paid lot parking, as well as free garage parking across the street. I love their semi-circular booths. Service has always been on point. I have never been on a night with live music, but their music selections are always relaxing and chic. I have tried and enjoyed their seared sea scallops, grilled octopus, duck fat potatoes, potato daphinoise, and most of all - their orange ginger and chocolate souffles! The only dish I thought was underwhelming was the bouillabaisse, as it was lacking in seafood protein. Big fan of their martini. Will be back soon for another souffle! read more

Leo's River Oaks is a 5 star restaurant experience. I found out about the restaurant from instagram and sometimes instagram can over hype things. However, I have to say the instagram post truly did it justice. We were all blown away by our experience here. From just walking in the decor is elegant, upscale, grown and fancy. Our server Avery was professional, friendly, and easy to talk to. The drinks were the first thing that came out to us and they really kicked started off our dining experience. I'm not a huge fan of whiskey but the Devil in Disguise and the Repeat Offender were just as good as the menu description described them as. They were amazing! All the food was top tier. We had the risotto and duck fat potatoes as appetizers and for my main I got the roasted half chicken and broccolini. Just delicious. Everyone at our party loved their respective dishes as well. Leo's is an incredible addition to the River Oaks/Montrose scene. The style is reminiscent of an upscale NYC mafioso's regular rotation, with its dark, matte painted walls, gorgeous chandeliers, live piano playing, dim lighting, polished mosaic marble floors... High class service with crispy white tablecloths. We ordered cocktails and wine for our party of 4; I myself had the Bread Winner cocktail, which was excellent in both taste and presentation! We basically ordered family style for the entire table, sharing Caesar salads, scallops appetizer (Absolute perfection! Came with a cauliflower puree that was delectable!), the 20oz dry-aged bone-in ribeye (which to be quite honest, seemed like 10 ounces only), sides of mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower. All the sides were excellent--especially the mushrooms, which had a kick! We HAD to order a soufflé... so we ordered TWO! We enjoyed the chocolate and the lemony vanilla one--both were epic! Location can't be beat, ambiance is sexy AF, and plenty of seating and space in between. read more

Our waiter was excellent. The restaurant is beautiful, but the food is not up to par. I don't eat pork neither does my guest. Lots of things are like sautéed in a pork sauce or have pork in them. The potatoes and the scallops that I ordered seem to have the same recipe I would urge the owner to go and try every dish and evaluate it fairly. Something is not right here. First, the East Coast Oysters were the smallest ever almost paper thin. Service, let me just say there was a wait & we had to ask for silverware. I told them it was my Birthday & came for the Grilled Lamb. Oh, my after 20 minutes they informed me @ 7:30 they were already out. Could of offered us some bread while we were waiting... The Salmon came alone & nice BUT the Brussels Sprouts quality & plain to zero flavor. I was very dissatisfied with the overall experience. Primarily due to the service, I made a reservation for our anniversary. Notated that it was for our anniversary. in the one acknowledge our anniversary until we were ready to leave, and it was by a server that wasn't even servicing our table. That server actually went to check the reservation to see if there was a notation for anniversary, and confirm that there was. So, to me that means people who can read decided to ignore. Secondly, the table we receive was on a high traffic part of the floor, which means it was busy and distractions all around us the entire time we were eating. The only time the manager came by to check on us was when my food hit the table, and he looked at my food told me it looked good and said I hope you enjoy it. I commented "we'll see", because I've never been told my food looked good by management before, but I was "asked" before. To me at a high end restaurant the quality of the food shouldn't be a question. So the bulk of the experience is based on the service. We appreciated that second server coming by and acknowledging and apologizing. But that should not have had to happen. read more

We were so excited to be able to dine in this new restaurant! Chef Tim Reading and his kitchen served an amazing meal! I think our favorite was the Salmon Crudo, but literally everything we tried was amazing! We started with scallops, salmon, and pork belly. Then we had the bouillabaisse and wagyu strip loin. Our sides were butternut squash, potato dauphinoise and gnocchi. For dessert we had the vanilla crème brûlée and the orange ginger soufflé. It was so much food, but so good!! The atmosphere was perfect for a date night and the front of house were very attentive and knowledgeable. read more

Our group of 6 had a fabulous dining experience!!! We enjoyed the burrata, risotto, octopus and bone marrow to start and all tasted great. For our meal we had the salmon and veal chop with the potatoes and really loved everything! We had a variety of desserts and I opted for the carrot cake, while my husbands favorite was the chocolate tart. Went here in August and had an excellent time. Came back now (October) and had awful experience. First they brought out someone else's dinner then took it back. Then when they actually brought our food it was luke warm. The "piano" player didn't really play any piano and just sang the whole time... but he only sang pop hits and a TY $ song. For an expensive meal you expect more both service, food, and entertainment wise. Do not plan on coming back which is a shame because our first experience was so much better but this time was subpar to put it kindly. read more

Met friends at bar for happy hour. Parking is hard to find, I did valet at $10, a bit steep. The hostess and bartender were welcoming. Happy hour included half off wines and cocktails, bites as well. Went there with a group of 9 for my wife's b'day. Food was ok but have to say the soufflé was very good. The bar tender had a condescending attitude. I don't really care to get into more details about the bar tender, but safe to say I do not want to deal with him again. The front desk people were disrespectful and condescending as well. Went to Leo's for the first time for a good friend's birthday. Service was good but I was very disappointed with the food. The gnocchi tasted like old expired oil in which the chef agreed. The king salmon was super salty as well as the Bouillabaisse which they replaced 3 times and was the same. The filet was overcooked and they charge for bread and butter. The steak comes with nothing and just a piece of steak. For a restaurant that charges high end prices it was not up to par with the food. Understand it's a new restaurant but they need to get their stuff together with those prices. Will not go back again until I hear better reviews on their food. read more

1st off, I made a reservation for 4 people and upon arrival (within 15 mins of our reservation time) I was told "Oh you just made your reservation in time", even though the place didn't look terribly busy I didn't see the necessity of that comment but hey, lucky me. We were walked through a beautiful and cool dining area with several tables that appeared available. However, we were escorted upstairs to a cramped and relatively hot environment. In addition, the wait for the food was a bit long (maybe over 30 mins for sure). The waiter was extremely polite and informative. Although, there was a mix-up with our food which the Manager did handle to his credit. Overall, I just can't say that we had a good experience. Lastly, do keep in mind that this place is relatively new and may need to work out some kinks. read more

While I can't speak for the food, I can speak for the insulting experience I had at this place. I've never felt compelled to write a review before, but here we are. We had a reservation and made sure to check the dress code beforehand to ensure we were compliant. However, we were turned away. What made it even worse was how it was handled. The manager (or whoever he was) looked up our reservation, whispered something to the hostess, and had her reject us instead of speaking to us directly. If you're going to deny service, at least have the decency to do it face-to-face. Instead of the table we reserved, we were offered seating in the lounge, which felt like being told to leave without saying it directly. We didn't want to cause a scene, so we walked out. We were baffled, insulted, and left feeling discriminated against. Since then, we've warned everyone we know to avoid this place. There are plenty of other spots in Houston that actually appreciate your business. We won't be back, and neither will anyone we know. read more

Disappointing. Stopped by this place on Thanksgiving since it was one of a few places open. The staff was kind, friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was enjoyable with live piano in the background. The wine list has lots of options and it's totally easy to find something for every taste and budget. We were in celebratory mode so we went for a Brut. As for the food, we decided to get a few dishes to share since we were not starving. We got the duck fat potatoes, and they were very underwhelming, basically just potatoes. We also got the Shepherd's pie and it was terrible, the mashed potato was too soft and it would just mix completely with the meat when you put a spoon in, the meat itself had no flavor and they decided to mask that with a ton of salt. Last we ordered the scallops, and again, they just tasted like scallops. After that, we decided it was time to stop ordering food. Unfortunately, I will not be coming back to this place. read more

Came in tonight randomly after going to the movies with my boyfriend. We sat at the bar and were tended to by Sarah, she was very nice and helped me dissect the cocktail menu, I am allergic to bubbly alcohol. I was thankful that she was accommodating to my allergy restrictions. My boyfriend ordered an old fashioned, the Foam Fashion, he said Sarah made him the best old fashioned he's ever had. read more

This is the second time I've visited... and this is the second time that I've left feeling underwhelmed by what should have been a better experience. The worst part was the length of time to get served. 2 hours at the table and only one course served? Come on, you can surely do better than that. The place wasn't even full. Having to send the main back because it was too salty? Come on, you can surely do better than that. Trying to get a drink at the bar beforehand but being ignored? Come on, you can surely do better than that. And in some cases, yes, they do do better than that. The agnolotti was to die for. The deviled eggs (this crowd's favorite) were still going strong this second time round. But the lobster bisque was underwhelming, the octopus solid but should be more, and the time it took for service, well, that was the killer to the evening. The long and the short of it was this was the second, and last, time that I'll be coming here; there are too many competitors doing a better job and therefore Leo's will remain a "what might have been" in my list of restaurants to visit. And judging by both the nature of the crowd in on a Saturday night,and the nature of the competition, I fear that the future isn't going to be rosy for Leo's if they continue as they have started.
