For the bad: did not like ANY of the food. The chilled shrimp was a small portion. The octopus appetizer was just fine. The bowl of gumbo was small and you could taste the grit of the roux in the gumbo. You can feel the texture of the flour on your tongue. The biscuits that come to the table crumble easily. The chicken dish on the menu: small portion of food. The rice was nice and flavorful, but the compliments stop there. The chicken was under seasoned and had an unappealing texture. The fries that came with the fish Sandwich were overly salted to where we could not eat them. The chips that came out had zero salt on them. Finally, our server took away one of our cocktails from the table before it was finished. And at the price of each cocktail, this left a bad taste in our opinions. Celebrating our friends birthday! Was able to fit a group of 12 at a table. For drinks, I got a classic margarita with Reposado and Tajin on the rim (Keep in mind they up charge for Reposado $19 to $28). They served some complimentary biscuits and it was warm/soft paired wonderfully with the butter. Appetizer, we got 1/2 dozen grilled oysters (grilled nicely and I liked how they seasoned the oysters, had a small kick as well). Also, the Seafood Gumbo that had crab, shrimp, oyster and okra (quite a thick broth, it wasn't super flavorful, but not bad). For my main, I got the Lobster Roll (not on the menu in the restaurant) and it was fresh! Good amount of lobster chunks inside of the delicious buttery bread. Also, comes with a side of fries which were crispy and seasoned. Our group brought in our own cake to celebrate, but they charge $7/person like a "cake-idge fee", which is a bit ridiculous. Bread service cheddar biscuits - 10/10 - crispy, flaky, tender and flavorful Cesar Salad - 10/10 - crisp greens, full flavor dressing, anchovy and crispy nuggets of deliciousness (I am not exactly sure what they were called... it was like croutons and savory bread pudding had a baby, crispy outside and soft inside. French toast - 10/10 - Hong Kong Toast, stuffed French Toast and a doughnut had a ménage à trois and this was the end result. Crispy outside and lots of flavor. Taking advantage of HRW and checking out this Rice Village restaurant led by Chef Bludorn. We opted in to the shrimp toast as our first course and it's a thing of beauty. Crisp, crunchy and delightful. The cheddar biscuits were amazing though the seaweed butter was not my favorite. For mains, we both ordered the pork loin. I did the two course lunch deal. The kataifi wrapped shrimp were very tasty and large. It is reminiscent of coconut shrimp with the flavor and texture, but much more elevated. I loved the crunch! The salmon was cooked perfectly- the skin was exceptionally crispy and the spinach was nice as well. The mushrooms were very savory. The cream sauce was pretty rich. I had a great time at navy blue for lunch this past Tuesday! I called on Monday to make the reservation at 1230 for the next day and had no issue scheduling it. The service from phone call to the end of the meal was wonderfully attentive and helpful. I actually went for restaurant weeks and I was blown away by the food. This was by far my favorite experience for restaurant weeks ever. I got the Kataifi-wrapped Fried Shrimp and Scottish Salmon. The fried shrimp was perfectly fried and not over oiled. The Scottish salmon was presented well in a delicious Bianco sauce. I would highly recommend this place for the delicious food and great vibes. I'll surely be back! read more

Ambiance is quiet, but also went on a Wednesday at 5pm.. the oysters were yummy!! I loved the baked oysters in particular. I tried the fried, baked, and raw. Didn't love the fried ones, but those aren't really my thing. They had Texas, Murder point/Alabama, and Maryland oysters. Navy Blue deserves more recognition. This seafood spot tucked away in Rice Village is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. At night, I highly recommend the valet for parking. During the day, you have a couple of lots surrounding the restaurant available to park. The service here is incredible. They are very attentive- including coat checking your leftovers and giving you a numbered chip to pick them up at the door. Don't skip the oysters. The bread service is delicious. Visited Navy Blue during oyster hour, their happy hour. I sat at the bar to enjoy a few cocktails and oysters. I was a little disappointed with the speed of the service. There were only a handful of other people in the restaurant but I felt like it took a long time to be asked about my drink order. Furthermore, after ordering only a half dozen oysters it took almost 20 minutes for them to come out and the bartender even had to go check on them. Not sure what was going on, but maybe they just have a relaxed paced during happy hour? The oysters themselves were good and fresh and the accompanying mignonette was nice. They have a special on martinis during happy hour and the bartender made me a good cosmo that I enjoyed. The happy hour menu is limited but if you want somewhere you can get east coast oysters for a good price, I'd recommend this place. The texture of the pancake were nice and thick with a crispy outside. The orange butter was nice and refreshing. My hubby and I had a very nice date night at Navy Blue. The restaurant was very chic with dim lighting and our server was fairly attentive although it was busy for the weekend. For drinks I had the Pear Pressure, a wonderful yet sweet bubbly beverage. My hubby had their Amoxicillin mocktail which was very well made. Be sure to order the Caesar salad, we loved the large homemade croutons that were soft but crispy. Their homemade biscuits were very buttery and luxurious. As our party arrived, he was quick to greet them with champagne as well, while also passing canapés for us! After being seated we had a preset menu, I went with the crab cake for first course, red snapper for second and key lime pie for third. For appetizers we also got to try all of the oyster which were raw, Rockefeller and fried, and ALL of them were amazing!! The Caesar salad as well is your traditional style and was nice crisp and delicious. The crab cake was delicious, nice size, really great portion size and packed packed packed with crab. The red snapper was definitely a star dish! The mash was a bit spicy, which was unexpected, but a nice surprise. I also got to try the tortellini, which came with a nice cream sauce. And would be great with some blackened shrimp or chicken, not sure if that's an option on the regular menu. The key lime pie is everything I could've imagined it be. When you think fried chicken and crawfish gravy you'd expect very savory and seasoned but it really wasn't either. Very bland needed some salt, which I never use. I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. This was actually my second time visiting, the first being shortly after they initially opened. Funny enough I ordered the same dish both times and didn't even realize it! Let's talk about the high points both times, the bread service and the grilled oysters were both great. The first time, my main dish, lobster ravioli, was bland. But this recent visit was a total 180. The ravioli had a good amount of lobster and the sweet potatoe created a nice twist to the flavor. Ww visited for an engagement dinner so there was also a seafood tower ordered. It was pretty standard fare, and nothing stood out as good or bad. It was shrimp, raw oysters, an tuna dip with chips. A good amount of food for the 6 or so people at our end of the table. The wait staff was great on both occasions, super nice and attentive. Leaving the restaurant you get these little sweets which were delicious and I have zero idea what they were, but get two! You can celebrate an anniversary, graduation, or just come here to have a really nice experience. Fast and attentive service- I never saw my glass go empty. Of the three courses, I had the Caesar Salad, The Branzino, and then the Chocolate Coulant. I enjoyed everything. The Branzino's highlights was the really well pan-fried skin. The star of the show was the Chocolate Coulant, though. The scotch ice-cream, the perfect cooked chocolate lava cake situation... if nothing else, I'll come back for dessert. The thing about this place is it's nice. Would I remember this place next to some similar-priced rivals? Probably not. Coming inside, the place looks very high-end. I wouldn't dress too casual coming in here, or I'd feel like I stick out. The caesar salad is a must get from here! It was actually one of the favorites at our table lol. The croutons are the best croutons that you'll ever have. They are so buttery, with the perfect amount of crispiness on the outside, but also soft on the inside. I got the tagliatelle, and it was really delicious and filling. For dessert, the chocolate coulant was SO good. There was a bit of a wait for dessert because everyone in the restaurant ordered at around the same time. While there were a few hiccups, for the most part, this is now our favorite spot in the city for seafood. I hate to say the star attraction at Navy Blue is their homage to Red Lobster's biscuits, but that is the truth. The biscuits are life changing and are worth the visit alone. But if biscuits aren't enough, the Caesar Salad was a real winner. I upgraded the salad to include fried oysters, which were cooked nicely for flavor and didn't scream deep fryer. The grouper sandwich was a winner, as well as the tagliatelle which was available with a crab uprgrade. Desserts were great as well -- the right size to top off the meal. After being completely wowed by the service at Bludorn, we were a bit disappointed when our server disappeared for much of the meal and we were left without drinks for our main course. I'm not sure what happened, but once the managers caught on to our situation, they took care of our final round which was greatly appreciated. The restaurant is large and airy, with a lot of booths. The service was fine, our server seemed a little new but he was nice. I tried the following dishes: Clam Fritters (sweet potato, dill aioli) (3.5/5): I thought these were okay, but that is probably because I'm not the biggest fan of sweet potato. They were a good amount of food and well made, but on the richer / fattier side. Smoked Mahi Mahi Dip (pineapple chow-chow, potato chips) (5/5): I added the trout roe. This dip was great. The potato chips went really well with the dip. It was well-seasoned, creamy, and not too salty. THe roe added a nice salty kick. Squid Ink Linguine (rock shrimp, tomato, rosemary) (5/5): I took out the prosciutto. This was great -- also very rich and buttery. The pasta was cooked nicely, the shrimp was tender, and the tomatoes were full of flavor. I liked this dish a lot. I also got a dirty gin martini, which was unfortunately bad.
