Leone's is a BYO spot with lots of outdoor seating, making it a nice option for warmer months. I had come here before for just some slices of pizza but decided to visit again for dinner with friends. We started with the margarita pie, ginger calamari (special), and spicy mussels. The pizza was good, but the calamari was disappointing- not enough breading and was soggy. Our hungry group didn't even finish it. The mussels were good, but I wish they gave us extra bread to dip into the sauce. For entrees, we tried the rigatoni Leone, chicken parm, penne turano, chicken Murphy and Veal Leone (special). Overall we liked our main courses, but nothing stood out, especially considering all of the Italian options in the area. We also tried some desserts; my advice: skip. Sat outside at this spot at 7:30pm on a Thursday evening. It was surprisingly not as crowded as it usually is, yet I had to ask for a menu & the waiter didn't show up for another 15 mins. I got tired of waiting and signaled to another young lady to help. I ordered a 12" margarita pizza and was told pizzas are a 2 hour wait...very interesting since the table right next to mine had just been handled a whole pizza. Guess they'd been waiting for 2 hours??? I think not. She told me I may be able to get a slice. I ordered a slice of cheese pizza and a salad. The slice came out first and it was the saltiest most underwhelming most lacking in flavor slice I've ever had in my 30 something years. It was bad. I took a few bites and really tried to find the good in that slice... there was none. I gave my friends a couple of bites, they both spit it out in their napkins. For the salad, I wanted to sub the goat cheese for feta. I was told they had no feta. Given the bad experience with the slice, decided to not order any other items. I asked for the bill and instead of reviewing it I just handed her my card because I expected to know the amount. When I received it I got a version that was much higher than I expected. I asked for an itemized version and she said "she doesn't know if she can print one after she's swiped the card". A few minutes later she brings me one and it already had gratuity on it. We have eaten here multiple times over the years. The reservation for last night was made months ago. However this last visit was horrendous. Family from out of state had flown in and we looked forward to catching up. One room had live musical performers, which was nice. Hostess offered us a seat near the musicians. We asked if there was anywhere less noisy where we could talk and catch up. She then sat is on the balcony. Once we sat down we realized there was a great deal of noise from below, but we assumed the shouting level culprits would finish their dinner and leave. Evidently ,the general dining area below the balcony contained a company Christmas party in full swing. They were so loud, we couldn't even speak to each other. The more liquor they consumed the louder they got. Some wondered up to the small balcony area where we were seated to take pictures and shout down to their friends. As they took pictures, we repeatedly heard "tits up ladies". Nice dining ambiance! Our issue: 1) hostess took us from manageable noise level seating onto a small balcony overlooking an alcohol sodden Christmas party. 2) we absolutely could not hear a word from anyone seated at our table and I'm not exaggerating Leone's hosted a large Christmas party ( with their own buffet dinner table under the balcony level) in an open room for general diners. Then proceeded to squeeze diners into the room with the rowdy party. Because of this we will never return to Leones. read more

Mediocre food paired with downright rude/nonexistent service make this place a definite on the will not return list. Waitress couldn't care less about our table. Thankful for the bus boy who did literally everything! He refilled our water, brought us a to-go box and even brought the check and settled our bill. I understand if you're busy and need the extra help but waitress didn't even address our table to say so sorry we're busy tonight (which there were only about 2 other tables). We gave our tip right to the bus boy as he clearly was doing all the work, but unfortunately it seems they pool tips. Food was decent portion size and price. Quality was meh, nothing special but it wasn't bad. Waitress did not check in once our meals were brought to see if we needed anything such as Parmesan or pepper. She actually also only left one set of cutlery. We had to get up and get a set from another table ourselves. I came to Leones for a family bday dinner. The restaurant like most in Montclair was small and cozy. The food at the party was served family style so I wasn't able to get pictures where I was seated but I can give an opinion on the food (I always have that lol). The dishes served were Vodka rigatoni, Lemon shrimp pasta, eggplant rollatini, chicken parm, ginger calamari and Caesar salad. Food was pretty good! Pasta cooked well. I'm not sure what's going on here. All the reviews and photos look great I am not having the same experience. The lobster ravioli was overcooked to the point where it's not edible. The sauce was runny not thick at all and completely devoid of flavor, and the pizza that I got balsamic onion something, was nothing but onions. I'm throwing everything out. Friday night delivery review: Ordered on DoorDash which was a bit late by no fault of the restaurant but food still arrived hot and fresh. The arugula and pear salad was fresh with a delicious dressing to pair with. My daughter enjoyed her mozzarella sticks. We also got complimentary bread which she ate up! After spending several minutes exploring Montclair, we decided to stop at this cute pizzeria for some coal oven pizza! The hostess was super courteous and attentive. We were seated outside immediate (since it was a beautiful day). We ordered two pizzas: the penne vodka pizza and balsamic onion pizza. Both were delicious. The crust was crispy and just right. I think I may have liked the onion pizza more than the penne vodka one. The Vodka pizza was just a little too saucy for me. Would def consider coming back here! I walked in on Sunday at around 11:43AM and the very rude man at the counter ignored me and my daughter for a good 8 minutes straight.While we were standing at the counter waiting to place a order he also looked us directly in the face and went back in the kitchen. Then he proceeds to come back to the front counter I then say "hello" in Spanish and he again directly looks at me and starts cleaning the counter. The sad part was I peeked into the dining area there were no customers I told my daughter in Spanish he doesn't want to serve us so we left and I explained to my daughter that we will no longer be coming here and I'm very disappointed because we have been loyal customers for several years. This spot is a pretty cute family owned pizzeria. With outside seating and plenty of seats inside as well. We wanted to take advantage of the weather, so of course we asked if we could be seated outside. Waited less than a minute before we were seated. Our waitress was very friendly and full of energy! But definitely was given too many tables to juggle at once. At the end of our meal we had to go inside to ask for our bill, because she was too busy with other tables. Very sweet lady nonetheless, but definitely could've used a hand. I ordered spaghetti and garlic bread. Tasted great! The bread was delicious and so was the sauce. Stopped here for a slice a few weeks back and wanted to come for dinner. I knew it was going to be good but it exceeded my expectations. Everything was super fresh! My wife got the clams over linguini with clam sauce and it was out of this world. I got the chicken Leone which was delicious! The veggies were so flavorful and had fresh garlic throughout. The chicken with the sun-dried tomatoes was beyond delicious. Tasted like prosciutto how tender and good they were cooked. For appetizer we got the ginger calamari and Italian egg-rolls which was stuffed with mozzarella and sausage. Also fantastic. Atmosphere is really cool as well, feels like your in NYC. It's a beautiful summer afternoon, the family just dropped some serious money at Le Petit Parisien and now it's time for a real meal. Everywhere else is buzzing and packed (with 40+ minute wait-times). You walk a bit more and Leone's has plenty of open tables - so you give it a shot. (And afterwards you understand why they're not booming like all the other places around them.) If the mural on the wall is accurate - Leone's has been in biz since 1990 which is amazing (especially for Montclair) and their prices are more than reasonable (a family of four eating for under $60? Again - that's great for Montclair). But it's pretty standard pizzeria-type of food. Dishes - I got the wrong meal but after waiting so long I just needed to eat before I passed out. One of my kids never received his entire meal (which the waitress continually kept reminding us about that damn meatball... who knows what became of that little guy?!). To be fair: the Mrs. really enjoyed her salmon but my chicken was okay at best. Waitress - very friendly (even if we had a hard time understanding a lot of her mumbling) and working her tail off but she would go missing for long stretches. Only offered a refill on drinks at the very end when we wanted to leave. And it took forever to be able to pay the bill and get a container to take my other kid's wrap home. Inside could really use a top-to-bottom cleaning and facelift to bring it into the present. (Even overlooking things like some food remnants on the floor or one of the chairs at the table we were going to sit at had what appeared to be a prior diner's dessert smushed into it... the place just seems drab and kind of sad.) read more

My boyfriend and I ended up going here for dinner randomly. Being from the area, I'd always walk past Leone's (before and after the infamous Hell's Kitchen episode). However, I never went to check it out - until this night. The interior is well decorated. It has a great atmosphere inside, looking both modern in terms of style, but at the same time giving a nod to the past with pictures of Mamma Leone and other black and white photos blown up on the wall. We were seared right away and our waiter Steven was awesome (friendly and attentive). Customer service was great that night. We ordered a '16 inch Spinach pie, which my boyfriend proclaimed was "fantastic." I agreed. The garlic bread appetizer was very good, but the rollatini was a little disappointing (too salty and too small a portion for $8). But overall, the food was aces. I'd come again for the pizza for sure. Consider checking it out. I just wouldn't recommend the eggplant rollatini. That's all. You'll have a pleasant dine-in experience! read more

DON'T ORDER DELIVERY HERE! I ordered delivery 5 hours in advance and my order was still late. When I finally received my order my pizza was salty, my pasta was bland, and the desserts were warm. The saving grace for this place is how delicious their desserts were (which I only discovered after refrigerating them and allowing them to reset). The Almond Cream Cake was beautifully crafted and the Limoncello Mascarpone Cake was amazing. Judging by the reviews, I'd say this place is best in person. Not every restaurant should deliver. I think they cheat themselves and the customers out of quality food and experience. If you want good food from this place get up and get dressed. Food 4* Service was 2* Went for brunch yesterday. The hostess was very friendly and seated us quickly. The place was not super busy. Waitress came over took drink orders, coffee and lemonade and a glass of water. So far so good! Waited about 10 minutes after getting drinks for her to return and take our order. We got eggs benadict and a carne frittata which were both $9.50 and tasted good. Whilst waiting for the food I wanted a coffee refill but no one came and noone asked. Finally I asked a food server and he said he would get our waitress. Few minutes later she comes with my coffee and I asked if she could get my wife a glass of water. She was so irate and blurted out I just came from there now I have to go back and she stormed off! We were so surpised, as not once until then had she been back to the table to ask us if we needed anything and we both thought WTF! She comes back with the water and plonks on the table without even passing a glance. I say thanks so much and was polite ever step of the way. She ruined our brunch with her attitude. Then she brings the check and two minutes later says, have you signed it yet? A shame as the place is pretty nice but her bad attitude left a bad taste in our mouths. Disappointing and Dirty... Not sure what happened to the place, but it has gone downhill. I don't see any of the regular staff anymore. The dishes, tables, silverware and floor are so dirty. Pest-Last night I went to this restaurant to celebrate my birthday with my family, everything was going good as usual until we saw a mouse in the middle of the restaurant. Since they had more customers, me and my family decided to call the waitress and not overreact. After we had told her what happened she called who I'm guessing is the manager and they apologized. We were trying to stay calm and requested the check, the bill had a 10% discount... a 10 percent discount (?)... This was such an awful experience and the 10% discount felt like a very mediocre attempt to compensate for this. I really hope they call pest control today. read more

This was always one of my favorite spots but with NYC commuting and lots of dinners out I hadn't made it there in awhile. Tonight I had the good fortune to go back and although I did take out the outside area looked so lovely. The servers, especially Trudy and a few other favs have been here for a very long time. They are kind caring and always on top of their game. But now for the best part - THE FOOD IS AMAZING Don't miss the chickens savoy served in the most delicious sauce with fresh red peppers and roasted potatoes. The rigatoni vodka is also excellent.
