Leone's is my pizza staple in Montclair. You can't go wrong with your choice to stop in here if you have a pizza craving. This place went though a major overhaul (very publicly on tv) and has succeeded through the transformation. It is perfect for a family get together (large seating groups are accommodated), and as a wood fire oven lover, I can't go back to regular since I came to Leone's. It's all in the char. I have been ordering the same pizza for years, with sautéed broccoli rabe, garlic, sausage and cheese with tomato base, and it is no longer on the menu (it used to be called the 'Tuscany Pizza'). But they know us, so they always make it. If you ask them to, they are accommodating and you will not be disappointed. I never am! read more

The food isn't bad, but, as other reviewers have mentioned, the service is terrible. The last time we went, my dish was delivered immediately (though lukewarm), and everyone else's was delivered really late. I recently moved to Upper Montclair, and finally made into Leone's for dinner. Since it was my first time there and it being an Italian restaurant, I thought I would play it safe and order the Meat Lasagna. The place was not very crowded; I was greeted by a very friendly staff and my waitress was a doll! ( a petite mature women with glasses). I placed my order and bread was brought to the table, it was not very fresh, but warm. but then they served me rock hard butter to go with it! So, I waited patiently for my entree', after about 25 minutes it arrived. It looked more like a burrito than a Lasagna dish, but it's all in the taste buds. The Lasagna was OK at best, I had frozen Lasagna from the Super Market that tasted better. They called it meat Lasagna , there was so little meat on it, it was mostly pasta, and tomato sauce. Fruit flies, soggy/bruised produce and service was nothing to write home about. Got the harvest salad but what was delivered was not as the menu described. Soggy salad, bruised apples, no pears and no nuts at all. Butternut squash ravioli tasted frozen. Portions, very small. Fruit flies annoying. Pizza looked good but did not have. Been there twice. Good prices and nice outside seating. The french toast was okay, I think they used Wonder bread, but the apples were a nice touch. Hubby's sausage & pepper hero was fine, but not great. Second time I got a grilled chicken panini, which was good. The prices are reasonable, the location is great, and the outdoor seating is nice. It's not the best Italian food, but it's average. Sometimes this place is super busy, and sometimes it's the only place in the area that isn't busy. read more

I have to say, though I made reservations with a certain local Cuban restaurant, and then an Italian restaurant (that I could tell from the name would probably blow my wallet, plus my friends & I also walked out of a Johnny Rocket's 50's themed diner), BUT, when we walked into Leone's and a woman was standing at the counter raving of how good her food was, and how happy she was, I canceled my reservations with the other two restaurants, and selected Leone's for my birthday dinner. I remember a gentleman named Brian who was INCREDIBLY accommodating in making me feel at home as he worked to construct a dinner for me {and was kind on the price}, and once I mentioned that I was celebrating my birthday, I felt like the red carpet was rolled out. The staff was SUPERB. A long brown haired woman {the restaurant mgr.?} and a man with longer curly bleached blond hair were also VERY nice. My waiter was excellent. The table could've been bigger as my one friend is 6'4" and my other is 6'1" and they felt a bit cramped when the food came in making room for everything, but they enjoyed it none-the-less. Oh, and they did mention loving the bread. My Italian seafood platter was quite good. Excellent clams, mussels, shrimp, and calamari. I wish they could've added a BIT more of that and spaghetti {or offered an option of linguini instead} but, we were also in a rush to get to the Wellmont Theater, so, I can't truly complain as I didn't make it a point to make a comment. I was just there a few days ago! This place has a warm "family" vibe. The owner and waitstaff are all incredibly nice. The Penne Vodka is one of the best around. I liked this place very much! My sausage and broccoli rabe with pasta was extremely tasty but maybe not "al dente" enough for some diners. The crab cakes were very well seasoned but don't expect chunks of expensive crabmeat for the price! The crab meat is in there, just not a lot. i tasted my friends Bolognese sauce with orecchiette and that was extremely delicious too. Service was exceptionally friendly and attentive. Decided to do a spontaneous dinner in Montclair tonight and happened upon Leone's. Had been there once before during the cold weather after a movie and enjoyed a soup and glass of wine. Tonight was full courses - appetizers, entree, wine. First, I love the physical presence of the place. High ceilings. Old fashioned ornateness. Great pics on the walls. Good colors. Second, I smelled the wood burning pizza oven as my girlfriend and I strolled down Park Street. Third, we were greeted by Michael who let us sit in the bigger room by ourselves. For the food - it was all great. Salad, mushroom polenta, bread - yum. I had salmon while my girlfriend had spinach ravioli. Excellent. Nicely seasoned - not too much salt. And the table wine, red, is quite good. Michael came to the table and chatted with us for a spell. Really nice guy and great conversation. This restaurant will be a regular stop for us - hoping every couple weeks. I highly recommend it. read more

I walked in here once on a really slow afternoon, only to have all 3 people working ignore me and continue to only engage in conversation with themselves without asking if I needed anything. When I said, "excuse me, do you have any gluten free options?" a woman snapped at me and said "no." and returned to her conversation with her coworker. I really have never had that experience anywhere else, so I would never recommend this place. Really rude. read more

Phenomenal is what I say! We went to a show at the Wellmont but first walked around to find a place to eat. Having no prior knowledge of Leone's, it looked nice inside, so we went in. All of the food was great. Great house salad - a step above the average. Fresh made pasta and cheeses combined with their sauce, meatballs & sausage made a perfect experience. My wife is very particular about chicken franchaise, and she said this was perfect & not too lemony. Tiramisu also top notch. Add in the friendly, courteous, and attentive staff and the evening was flawless. Prices were comparable to any other good italian restaurant & well worth it for sure! read more

This restaurant gets a 4 star on the food, but a one star on the service. The decent food was greatly overshadowed by how much my party was ignored by the waitstaff. On a Tuesday evening my party of three sat outside to enjoy the nice weather. There were maybe six or seven other tables outside. One waitress was very friendly and attentive at the start. Then we were given menus and so would begin our 100 minute meal that should've taken half the time. 20 minutes later we're able to flag our original waitress down to order. A friend orders a salad for a meal and I split a pizza with the third person. Salad comes out within 15 minutes, but we wait for our pizza for over 30 minutes. Despite there being three employees servicing outside, I sat with an empty drink for the majority of the experience. I also took up the waitress's offer to bring red peppers and parmesan cheese, but I guess she decided to never deliver on that offer. The inside was not busy either so I do not know why service was so lacking. Dessert is ordered mid-way before finishing our entree, but still takes another ten minutes after the table is cleaned to get it. I asked for the pizza to be boxed for leftovers and it was removed from our table never to be seen again. I wish I could've eaten the rest of the pizza, but it never came back after the 20 or so minutes of getting dessert then waiting for a check, then waiting to run the cards. We were so ready to go that I didn't notice until later in the night that the staff never returned our box. I will not be returning after the sour taste those waitresses left me with. read more

Leone's--what a FABULOUS place!!! Last night was the first time that I had the pleasure of eating there, as I'm new to Montclair. I was first attracted to the place by the outdoor seating that they have, which I was told is brand new after the construction of a beautiful, wide walkway out front. I sat outside, which was delightful...and was immediately brought a basket of bread with olive oil...yummm. I ordered the lasagne, which was delivered prompty by my waitress, who was friendly, attentive, and just downright pleasant. The manager even came over to my table to check how I was doing! Nice people. The lasagne was DELICIOUS. I would definitely order it again. Overall, a great experience! I plan on going back really soon. Great people, great location, great ambiance, great food--what more could you want? read more

FABULOUS place. We had to cancel my daughter's original venue for her rehearsal dinner 11/1/12 after the hurricane due to flooding and loss of power. My daughter and her fiance found Leone's Kitchen on 10/30/12 and they were able to pull off the best rehearsal dinner I have ever attended within roughly 24 hours. It was an event for around 55 people. All of our guests commented on how much they loved the food and on what an extensive menu was available. There was a special menu for the event. The staff and owner really went above and beyond. I cannot praise Leone's Kitchen or it's owner enough. Leone's Kitchen will be forever in my heart. It doesn't even matter what the food was like, there was a waitress there hacking her lungs out all over the place. She wasn't even our waitress but I had to go home and take airbourne and Nyquil just in case. There was nothing else I could think about but germs, so maybe the food was good? read more

Best family friendly restaurant in the area, take your kids even infants in a car seat are welcome. The staff has been there for years and is very friendly, the food is good and dependable just like a Robert DeNiro movie. Tables are large and spacious, atmosphere is open and friendly. Plenty of parking at the Crescent Muni Lot. Lots of window shopping on Church St. Movie theatre one block away, great place to spend a Saturday afternoon. read more

Came here today for lunch with my friend and I was very impressed by the food. Got a buffalo chicken pie and it was great. But the service was absolutely horrible. Our waitress was extremely rude and didn't ask us once how our food was. It also took 15 minutes after I got my pie for my friends food to come out and we had to ask the hostess because our waitress was MIA. Also when we got our check the prices were wrong and our waitress said it isn't lunch prices anymore yet they gave us the lunch menu when we got here. She changed the check for us but gave us an attitude. Then we waited 10 minutes for her and couldn't find her so we had to give our check a different waiter. No one thanked us either. It might be best to just take out from here because the service was a 0/5. She was HORRIBLE, I repeat horrible. read more

It used to be my favorite place but it's not anymore. I went in the sumer with my sisters and the guy who served us kept staring at my sisters chest because she was wearing a tank top . Keep in mind that she's 17 and he's a grown man. We went another day to eat giving them another shot after that incident and they said we couldn't eat in the dinning hall and told us to sit in the chairs by the trash which was meant for people getting single slices and we told the guy we were ordering more than that and looked surprised i'm not sure if its because of my race but yes I had the money to pay for my food. We were the first people to sit in the restaurant and yet we were the last asked what we were ordering and the last to be fed I tried letting it slide but there is no excuse. They also sat us all the way in the back next to the exit sign and were they keep the extra chairs. I won't be returning here because of the treatment you shouldn't spend money here either. read more

The older waitress with the short red hair is probably the worst waitress in the history of waitresses. My wife and I ordered main courses as well as appetizers. I asked for a slice of pizza as my appetizer. She told me "our pizza station is a little backed up right now but ill get it out for you" which was fine for me. I'm very easy going and go with the flow in life. One of the bus boys brought out my wife's appetizer and before I knew it another bus boy brought out our main courses. No problem. It was a busy night. So we eat and the whole time I know this spacey meth head is going to forget and the bill is going to show a slice of pizza. After her avoiding the table all night the bill comes and of course the slice is on the bill. I politely and instantly tell her "hey you charged us for the slice but forgot to bring it out" to which she replies "I did? Really? are you sure?" and then "Ok let me go fix that." She comes back and the bill has it discounted to $1 instead of $2 and she tells me "I told my boss you didn't like it because it was mushy" to which I get visibly agitated and say "you never brought it out" she laughs "Oh its ok hes not really my boss just the guy that does that receipts" I said I didn't want to be known as someone who ate something only to try and get money off. This woman is just the worst. If shes not related to the owners I have no idea how she is still employed. read more

After deciding that having my grandmother's 90th birthday party here at home would be just too overwhelming we decided to have it at a restaurant instead. We had already been to the "new and improved" Leone's 3 or 4 times over the past 6 months or so and were really impressed with the food, service and value so we decided to give a call and see if they could work within our budget--which to be honest was meager. Mike, the owner, took my call and was very friendly and helpful. I was so pleased to find that he was able to work with me to devise a prix fix menu that was well beyond my expectation for my budget. On the day of my event he set aside a lovely area of the restaurant for our party; everything looked beautiful when we arrived. The staff was friendly and attentive, the food was delicious and there was MORE than enough. It seemed that every single guest came up to me and raved about something or another. I couldn't be more pleased with my experience with Leone's each time I've been there, either just with my small family, on a date night with my husband or at the big 40 person birthday party for my grandmother. Mike and his staff very obviously strive to make the customer happy and give them a positive experience. Last but not least...I can't review a restaurant without telling some of my favorite dishes! I always have the warm olives and a stuffed artichoke to start. The artichoke is to die for. The ginger calamari is also fantastic. We love the pizza. I personally love the pasta e fagioli. My husband always orders one of the fish dishes and raves about them. The chicken francese is great and so is the chicken savoy. So there you have it. Been here a few times over the years... Food isn't bad. UNTIL TODAY! The two orders of kid's chicken fingers came out RAW ! RAW as in I had to stop and actually look again because I couldn't believe it! They were completely raw! The owner just happened to walk by at the time of our discovery and took them back for new cooked ones. It took 10 minutes and the owner didn't come back but sent his wife with no apology or reassurance. Didn't even wait to make sure these were completely to our liking! The owner eventually did head back our way, but much to my dismay did not come to check on us or apologize or acknowledge us at all after we sent the chicken back with him. How unprofessional and rude ! Needless to say, we were still charged.... Never going back . I understand mistakes happen, but to the degree that the chicken was raw and then to be ignored by the owner himself who knew exactly what happened, you've lost a customer ! read more
