We tried this restaurant for a special anniversary dinner because of the promising online reviews. We were very disappointed. The place has a promising ambiance with a view of the Sandia's. The dining area was small and unnecessary overcrowded. Happy hour customers are seated on the spacious patio while dining customers are not a priority. The food was good but not great. Our food took an hour from the time we ordered it. When we asked about the delay all we got was excuses from wait staff and management. The service left much to be desired. Our waitress rarely came to check on us since she was too busy with "drinking" customers to be bothered. I cannot recommend this restaurant and will not be back. read more

ok, i preface this entire review with a disclaimer that i've been here many times over the years since it's opened, and i have never left a review until now, because i keep giving them the benefit of the doubt (they cant seem to keep a chef, manager, or decent servers.. always a cast of fresh characters). this most recent visit was one of the worst ever, but completely indicative of every other visit i've had there. pros: gorgeous view, the baked nm was good (not as good as the week prior, but still solid), 2/5 cocktails were great, and the asparagus app was tasty. waitress, when we did see her, was sweet. cons: no server, manager, or busser checked on our table for 15 minutes after we were seated. we had to flag someone down to go find our waitress to order. all the food came long before the cocktails. food arrived and no one brought us utensils, napkins, plates. had to flag down some help from a busser. cocktails arrived after we were done with the first round of nibbles, so we ordered another round. we had to bus our own table to make room for the next round of food and cocktails bc there was no room when it arrived. we saw our waitress getting a VERY long and very public talking to by a manager in front of the bar. it was obvious she was in the weeds, but at no point did the two male managers ever seem to actually start helping or checking on tables to support their waitstaff. we had to flag down someone to get our waitress for the check too, as she never once came to the table unless we explicitly had someone go get her. THEN we had one person pay in cash and requested the balance go on a single card for everyone else. she returned with the FULL BALANCE on the card and the cash missing. when we asked her what happened to the cash, she didn't know. y'all it made no sense. she said i thought you said balance on the card, and i had to explain that balance means "leftover" after the cash is applied. there was absolutely no way we were leaving a 40% tip on such excruciating service. she went back and ran the card for the correct amount and said the first full charge would be reversed. forward to 4 says later, and i still have both charges on my card. this place has SO MUCH potential, but i have no idea wtf management and owners are doing to not be able to keep quality folks on staff. it's such a shiny veneer, but it crumbles quickly when it comes to actual hospitality. read more

This might be one of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever been to, inside and out. The views are breathtaking and we saw a shooting star - a total core memory! So why a 3? Let's start with the good... the service was great. Between our server and the bartender, we could have easily left with new besties. The staff is on par with the view. The outdoor dining room has natural gas heaters all over so as the sun went down, we were comfortable in the cooler temps. Now the not so good... unfortunately the food was a let down. I got the filet and it was meh. The sides were meh. I was just underwhelm and felt I was paying for the view more than anything else. I ordered the Crème Brule and the texture was very curdled, not smooth and silky. I've come here since it opened, usually for drinks, appetizers, and the view, sometimes for dinner. The last time was a weeknight around 6. My party was seated at a cluster of couches so we ordered easy food to eat at the coffee table setting. This is how the charcuterie board came out. I kid you not. Our foursome each had something different off a menu that is minimal on offerings. Halibut, Sea Perch, Moroccan Chicken Breast and Filet Mignon were our choices. Everyone enjoyed their meals. It's all about the view. Located on the top floor, Level 5 of Hotel Chaco, enjoy unobstructed panoramic views of Albuquerque flanked by the Sandia Mountains. Amazing to be in the city, near Old Town, and be able to watch the sunrise or sunset with clear skies without seeing other buildings or skyscrapers. Stunning. Did not eat here, but social distancing protocols are in place. The outdoor seating included fire pits and heaters which were located throughout. Disappointing. The views are great but the service was not worth the prices which happened to be higher on the bill than the menu. They burnt the bread and turned it upside down to hide the burn. And then they didn't place the right steak order in the right spot so we eventually realized the my friend had the medium rare steam and I had her medium steak. We went there on a Tuesday night in November and were able to get a table without reservations. To access the restaurant you need to go into Hotel Chaco and take the elevator up to the 5th floor which is the top floor. There's an amazing patio area with fire pits and seating on the roof, but we decided to sit inside because of the chilly weather. The waitress and the staff were friendly and attentive. The dishes we ordered were on par with the quality you would expect for a gourmet establishment such as this. I wasn't disappointed with the Chilean Sea Bass and I recommend it. They have an impressive bar with a wide selection of alcohol but we didn't order any drinks. read more

I stayed at Hotel Chaco on a recent business trip and was recommended to visit Level 5 on the rooftop when checking in. I didn't want to leave the hotel after traveling in from Canada and so I made my way to the rooftop and ended up sitting at the bar. Although the food was tasty, the service was mediocre at best. It took nearly 19 minutes to be acknowledge which only happened after I asked if I was still able to order food at the bar. I ordered two small dishes but only received one. And in general the staff seemed disinterested in me as a patron. I asked for the manager's card and sent an email when I returned to my room. No response. I'm a pretty patient and flexible person, and it takes a lot for me to make a complaint. The whole experience at Level 5 was a disappointment and I would not consider returning or recommending to others. Too bad because the space is stunning. read more

We've discovered the perfect way to enjoy 4th of July fireworks - reserve an outdoor table at Level 5 on Hotel Chaco's roof! From here, you can see displays, legal and otherwise, all over the city. We ordered a charcuterie plate and a bottle of Riesling. Everything was very good, though a little more bread would have been nice. We ran out before we finished the meats and cheeses. We were immediately greeted by a terrible host who was extremely rude to our party and made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. First time at Level 5 and I can definitely say it was definitely a great place to have a nice dinner. We couldn't make a reservation because we weren't staying at the hotel, so when we got there, they had a 45 minute wait. The host let us know we could go wait at the bar downstairs so we did. After 45ish minutes we got a text that our table was ready so we went on upstairs and were seated right away. The table hadn't been bussed yet but the host came back and bussed it for us after apologizing for the inconvenience. The server took 5-10 minutes to come and take our drink orders and we were able to put in our food order when she brought them back. The specialty drinks are so good! I got a Sandia Sunset and my boyfriend got a Turquoise Trail. They were super tasty and we would've ordered more if asked! We shared a flatbread, which was delicious and I got the chicken dish as my entrée. The chicken was small but flavorful and the sauce it came with was divine! It was a great experience because they have a wonderful view and great signature dishes! The only recommendation I would have would be to allow people not staying at the hotel to make a reservation. read more

Let start off with how this all went down. We had initially planned a dinner at nearby Seasons to commemorate a special date. On our way to Seasons, I remembered that Hotel Chaco has a really scenic rooftop bar that would be nice to grab a quick drink at and snap a few pics with the sunset kissed Sandia mountains in the backdrop. Upon reaching the 5th floor, we noticed the entrance of the restaurant with an empty host booth in front of it with no host in sight. Note, this was my first time here. As the place was relatively dead and no host around, we just walked in and found a table on the balcony. The only thing that remotely saves this review is how beautiful the venue is. Based on that, it should probably be about half a star. On our way to the table, I immediately can feel awkward gazes from people both customers and staff. I've had this happen some other places that weren't melting pots like Albuquerque, but never here. This is a more touristy section of town, so I guess it should be expected. The looks very much made me feel unwelcome. Maybe I was underdressed? Maybe a bit too Hispanic looking? My date was excited to be up there and didn't catch the same energy I was feeling, so I just kept quiet. We sit down and take a look at the drinks and menu. Drinks are a bit pricey, but I was still considering it just to enjoy the view. I started browsing the food selections and noticed they don't have much and it is really up there in price for what it is. Service was taking an awkwardly long time to come over to us, so I decided we should just leave and continue on with our date at Seasons. As we're starting to get up, an Olive Oil from Popeye-looking waiter comes up and starts trying to get our order. I explain to him that we are leaving because we have other dinner plans and everything seemed fine. Right when I stand up and begin pushing in my chair, the prick says out loud so that everyone in the nearby vicinity can hear "was it that you have other plans or was the food just too pricey for you?" Of course, some of the other snobs that were already giving us the "you don't belong look" turn to stare. I calmly told this asshat waiter "it's not your prices, you don't have much to offer" and we left. Seriously, eff this judgmental establishment. Ownership should vet their waitstaff better. With the high priced food, I'm sure this is a hot job for waitstaff. Or maybe, based on other reviews, management is just fine with this type of behavior and things will never change. What a stunning rooftop bar. I felt like I was on top of the world. We were here during a bit of a lightning storm, too, so it was really cool to watch the storm from such a high up place. The views seriously were spectacular!!! If you're ever in the area, it's worth it just to pay it a visit and take in the beautiful scene. With it being beautiful weather, we decided to sit out on the patio, however the restaurant does have roll-away doors so pretty much everything was on the patio that night. They had some really cute seating around the edge that had glass walls so you could really take in the sights, but I did think it was a little weird that the chairs were all facing inward towards the restaurant. If I was sitting in one of those chairs, I definitely would have turned it around so I could sit and enjoy the view. We had three people total in our group so we sat around a firepit area. The chairs were a little odd and felt like we were sinking into the chair a little too much, but I guess that's what you get when you want to live that fancy life haha. :) We ordered drinks and appetizers to share. I had a delicious mezcal tequila drink that was garnished with lavender (which I realize while visiting Albuquerque that lavender is really popular there). The rim also had a salt AND sugar rim, which I had never had before. It was a revelation, honestly. I now feel like I need that on every cocktail I order now! It was amazing. The appetizers were displayed and plated beautifully that I didn't even to touch them (but I was hungry soooo). I had the avocado hummus dip, the crab dip and a charcuterie plate. Everything was perfect and full of flavor. The food tasted just as beautiful as it looked! Above all else, our server was splendid. My boss ordered a drink that wasn't on the menu and they made it so well, our server kept mentioning that she wanted to order that when her shift got off haha! She was a ton of fun and checked in on us periodically to make sure everything was going well. Simply appalled at the service I received here... let me paint this picture for you. I showed up without reservation, there was plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. I opted for outdoor seating due to Covid, and wanted to see the views. I was seated promptly, I was offered a table or a lounge area, I decided on the table. It was a bit far off to the side but I was right by the door the wait staff utilized so figured that'd be no problem. 40 minutes. It took 40 minutes until someone took my order. The waitress stopped by maybe 5 minutes in to drop water off and said she'd be just a moment. 40 minutes goes by. Other wait staff are passing me, not checking in with me for anything. Didn't ask if I wanted cocktails to start or if I needed someone to grab my waitress. Nothing. I see other people seated and served before I am even addressed again... I think okay they are in other sections with different staff, fine. However, A couple is seated next to me and within 5 minutes, I see my waitress making her way down the walk way. I think to myself finally, I will get to place my order. NOPE. She b lines to the couple next to me, brings them water, takes their order before even addressing me again!! WTF I had been there 40 minutes at this point, just trying to place my order, she takes their order before me???? Literally no excuse for that, like at all. Situation was so fucked up, I felt so unwelcome....I honestly wish I just left because the food for the wait and the disrespect was not worth it. Drink was just okay, spring rolls completely lacked any type of flavor. They just seemed disorganized in general, brought out two apps when it was just the one I ordered. To top it all off, another waitress stops to ask the couple next to me if they needed any drinks while they wait.... The same waitress who'd passed my table at least 15 times and never once looked my way or stopped by to check in on me. I was telling my boyfriend about what happened once I got home, he felt the fact I was the only person of color may have something to do with it... do what you will with that information. Back in NY now where blue corn is mighty scarce, I'm still dreaming of my breakfast of blue corn griddle cakes with fresh pecans and warmed maple syrup. Mmm. The brunch frittata with calabacitas and cheese hit the spot as well, and their bacon is thick and salty in a good way. Hubbie loved his blackberry lavender french toast, nicely tarted up with freshly whipped cream. Dinners were equally delicious. I especially liked a nightly special of halibut with udon noodles. Servers were genuinely nice and were happy to explain ingredients if asked. Unfortunately we were in ABQ during a rare rainy time so couldn't eat out on the large open air rooftop deck but it looked beautiful. Next time for sure. read more

I was on a work trip in Albuquerque and a group of us decided to check out the rooftop bar at Hotel Chaco. It is a surprisingly upscale hotel in this area that somewhat seems out of place and can seem intimidating because of how posh it is. With this being said, I wouldn't let that deter you from grabbing a cocktail here at Level 5. The view is decent and doesn't compare to what you can find in a bigger city such as New York, but is still nice to have. The drinks are 'expensive' relatively to a beer you can get at one of the many local breweries, but the bartenders manage to make some good cocktails here for ~$12. I ended up getting 'The Botanist' which I enjoyed because of its herbal-infused thyme with lemon zest as a gin-based cocktail. My co-worker ended up getting the Chaco Coffee, which was good, but wished it had a bigger bang for its buck. Overall, I'd recommend just grabbing a single cocktail here and then possibly walking over to Ponderosa Brewing Company just 3 minutes away for something more affordable. read more

We are staying in the hotel for three nights. After having driven all day, we didn't want to get back into our car so called Level 5 for a dinner reservation. They didn't have any inside seating available, so we agreed to sit outside on the roof of the building. The wind blew like crazy which kept me cool but made dining difficult. The skies were absolutely gorgeous; couldn't be beat. Waitress Alex was very friendly and informative but she did forget a couple of things. There are only four options for "from land." One is a $40 chicken breast! Really? There are only three "from the sea" options. We decided to have the Charcuterie and the Vietnamese Spring Rolls from the "Starters" menu. The Charcuterie was good but I've had better, much better. I asked for a dessert menu. I didn't know what several of the items were. I read the descriptions below and didn't even recognize many of the words. I asked Alex for a recommendation and ate that. It was good but certainly not something to write home about. Overall, I think the restaurant is over-priced. The menu is limited and pretentious. It served its purpose for us: We didn't have to get back into the car after a very long, stressful drive. But we won't return to Level 5, unless it's just to the bar for a drink. read more

The Views are ah-mazing & breathtaking! The bartender actually knew how to make a great New York Sour drink. The new menu is delicious , thanks to their new chef Marc. The carne asada elk is my new go to! The negative to this place, and why we don't come here often Is the customer service! We've waited 20mins plus for just water. We ate here last week on a work trip and had a great experience....the only hiccup was a little slow service but outside of that all was good. We sat outside and had a great view of the city and mountains and I would argue that it might be one of the nicest views of the city. For starter we had the crispy artichoke hearts, flatbread pizza and avocado hummus. Each of these were super delicious and would be hard to say which was my favorite, but the crispy artichoke hearts were pretty special. they were cooked like a crispy brussel sprout and really loved them. With that being said the prosciutto and mushroom flatbread was equally delicious. For dinner I had the crispy salmon with rice. Solid salmon dinner cooked perfectly medium rare as requested. Really great overall experience and would highly recommend Level 5 for any visitor or local looking for a great roof top restaurant. read more
