First and foremost I can't believe Level V is a vegan bakery. I was intrigued by their matcha croissant and I couldn't wait to try it. The matcha croissant definitely exceeded my expectations. It was flaky, buttery with the perfect combination of sweet and bitter. To my delight, the croissant not only had a matcha topping but also a filling which made each bite more enjoyable. I would have loved to try their matcha soft serve only if I had the stomach space for it. But alas next time!

I've always liked Whisk Matcha and I was curious to try the vegan cakes from the in house Level V Bakery. Compared to my high regards to Whisk, Level V was quite disappointing. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I ordered a hojicha birthday cake with a custom birthday message more than a month in advance. It would have been nice to get a pick-up reminder or notification to confirm the cake was being made but that's just a minor detail. Unfortunately, when I picked up the cake, the custom text was incorrect (name was spelled wrong and the word "birthday" was added even though I didn't request it). They fixed it immediately on the spot, so definitely satisfied with their service. However, it was off putting that they didn't acknowledge the mistake or apologize and I had to double check my initial order to make sure I wrote it down correctly. Basically fine service but not exceptional. I also ordered a drink from Whisk while I was waiting for the fix and that was still fantastic as I remember it to be, including the service. The cake itself was also average. It was super sugary and I didn't like the texture at all. I don't fault them though, since I knew a vegan cake would likely not taste as good. It was a fun experiment, but I'm definitely staying away from vegan cakes from now on.

Level V is partnered with and shares a cafe space with Whisk Matcha, and from the perspective of a customer visiting the cafe, they basically function as one business since you order everything from the same counter. I have left a detailed review of the whole cafe on the page for Whisk, so here I'll just go over what the bakery offers. I am working my way through their offerings and think I've tried a pretty representative sample of what they serve, but there's always a wide selection available at the cafe and they're always whipping up new things, so I think I'd have to be eating their stuff every day if I really wanted to be able to try everything! I think that the objective best thing you can get here are either cookies OR come after they open and try a bun. Any bun. They are always fresh in the morning, and the slightly sweet yeast dough is so soft and tender. They rotate through various sweet and savoury fillings. The ube mochi bun that I think is fixed in the rotation is very good; one of my favourite seasonal offerings was the salted "yolk" bun, where the vegan salted yolk filling was actually made from squash. I like that they have some veganized versions of common Asian pastries that usually contain meat so that I can try these flavours. Most of the meat substitutes are not processed imitation products but creative culinary replacements. Even if you eat meat, if you have an open mind, I would still recommend these savoury buns if you want to try something different. The cookies are similarly very soft, not too sweet. These hold up their freshness better throughout the day so you don't have to come right at opening to enjoy them at their peak (the buns are also great at any time of day, but I do notice a difference between when they're just a few hours out of the oven vs later in the afternoon). They have staple flavours and rotating seasonals which are all interesting flavours (the staple matcha mochi cookie is heavenly). They have a few twice-baked croissants: matcha and almond. If you like really buttery, gooey croissants, these might not be for you, because they're a little crunchier than typical croissants and don't have that buttery sheen. I personally don't miss the butteriness and prefer this version, which doesn't leave me feeling like my face is oily after eating it. They're almost closer to a bread dough than pastry. The matcha version has a powerful dusting of matcha and a delicious matcha custard inside. They sell whole cakes, which can be preordered from their website or grabbed as a walk-in (they have a few available for walk-ins every day), and usually there will be something available by the slice. I tried a slice of pistachio cake and really enjoyed the moist crumb and smooth "buttercream" frosting. The cake was a little dense but I didn't mind it at all. I definitely want to try more of their cake after trying this one. They have various other desserts that come and go: lots of cupcakes in fun flavours, macarons, sometimes vegan cheesecake, sometimes bars, sometimes tiramisu. I haven't been disappointed with anything so far. Some are gluten-free. The desserts don't always taste exactly like their non-vegan or non-GF counterparts, but are always delicious in their own way.

Ordered the hojicha opera cake for my bro's bday and we were all very pleased. Tastes like a regular cake and it's hard to tell that it's vegan! The main difference would be the cake texture is more muffin like/dense but it worked really well with the hojicha "cream" and we loved the strong tea flavour. Presentation was well received and we will definitely be ordering from here again. Parking situation: a bit gnarly as it's mostly permit only on the streets. We found a spot a bit further away (3 mins walking) that was 2hr parking without permit. Bring your own bag to carry your cake home, or pay $1 for a paper bag.

We came in the morning and the shop was pretty empty. Parking was easy in the residential off street area. Staff was nice and we got served quickly. 10/10 Matcha Croissant $5.50 - Matcha flavor was strong! Soft, airy, and flaky crust, and perfect sweetness. Must get! 6/10 Ube Mochi Bun $5 - Mochi was chewy but flavor was not there. Just tasted sweet and not any ube. 6/10 Early Grey White Chocolate Cookie $3.50 - super dry cookie. Earl grey flavor was subtle.

We loved the baked goods and drinks! It's hard to find vegan macaroons and these didn't disappoint. I don't think there's anything not good here, to be honest! We'll definitely be back again. The cafe is cute and the seating is mostly for two people. We had a party of 3 (one kid, two adults), and my kid was squished into the seat with me - I didn't see extra chairs.

I've heard of Level V even before Monica had her own store. She was making vegan cakes in Richmond and I was interested in looking for vegan cakes for my birthday and such. I went to Level V and Whisk Matcha to check out their expanded items and I was excited to see a lot of different drinks to order! I got a Matcha drink, 30% sugar, no ice, and it was one of the best Matcha drinks I've had in a while! It was clean and fresh. They currently have a 15% surcharge for dining in. Most people takeout for this reason.

Pricey? Yes. But a FULLY VEGAN CAFE WITH CROISSANTS!! AND SAMMIES!! AND SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM!! I love this place. I come here pretty much every time I stop by the library. Their croissants are UNMATCHED. I tried their soft serve and it was GORGEOUS, but not my favourite vegan ice cream ever. The Mochi Muffins weren't my thing, but are probably SOMEONE'S thing! My fave was the Raspberry Coconut Croissant, easily. Can't wait to see what other flavours they come up with!

Search from web to buy a plant based birthday cake on Friday and pick up on Monday. Level V opens Mondays Open at 9am 3 days pre order Mount Pleasant location near work place With all criteria meet, I choose a tiramisu cake. Since this is the first time to buy a vegan cake, I do not have great expectation, come out the cake is beautiful and yummy. Presentation is good and not too sweet. Coworkers keep asking me where do I buy the cake. This is a good place for vegan cakes!

We love Level V Bakery, especially for their cakes. Our family has ordered some delicious birthday cakes over the last couple years that Level V opened. The cakes are delicious and beautifully decorated. We recently had a wedding cake made and it was wonderful. The desserts such as the macaroons, cream puffs and chocolate moose hearts are excellent as well. All yummy! Ordering is easy with Level V and the service is very courteous.

Half eaten tiramisu. SO GOOD! Go buy!

Level V Bakery makes CAKES TO DIE FOR. If you are one of the people who can't give up eggs and cows milk because you love dessert too much, then please let Level V Bakery challenge you. Seriously folks, self-taught Monica Tang's (the owner) cakes without cows milk and eggs blow the others out of water. Still not convinced? Just look up "Dairy is Scary" on YouTube because in this day and age, no one needs dairy in their food when there are readily available and delicious substitutes. I've had almost every kind of vegan cake, but when I came across a vegan tiramisu by chance I was so stoked because I assumed it was one of those things I had to give up. All I can say is wow, the texture is so airy and smooth and has that not too sweet taste. Perfect balance of cream and sponge cake too! Someone described it as "cake with tiramisu flavor" and it sounds just about right. Her cakes are so pretty to look at too. Just go on her website and you can see her instagram-worthy creations. As of now, you can find the tiramisu at Vegan Supply, Body Energy Club, Westwood Organics, and Spents Grounds...or you can order online at her website. Hopefully she ends up on some show of some sort as she deserves the recognition for her lovely work. Keep up the amazing work and I already can't wait to try more items! TWO THUMBS UP!!!

    Custom 6" tiramisu birthday cake
    Christina L.

I ordered a birthday cake for myself (this sounds incredibly sad--I know, but my birthday falls on Tomb-Sweeping Day and my family always goes back to Asia. I don't even know why I'm trying to justify my situation for you though) since I don't consume any dairy. I first found out about Level V Bakery through one of Erin Ireland's Instagram stories, where she went to Bonus Bakery to get one of Monica's tiramisu cakes. Now, I LOVE tiramisu. But ever since going dairy-free, I haven't had the chance to eat it. Now, my birthday is April 4th, and I placed the order maybe around 6 days prior to it. She replied with the okay, and we decided on a 40$ custom birthday cake, tiramisu flavoured, with blue lettering. I picked up the cake at Bonus Bakery on April 3rd and took the bus back home, extra careful not to mess anything up. Obviously, I ate the cake on April 4th. As did my brother. I brought leftovers of my cake to school the next day and shared it among my friends. They didn't even know it was vegan. 10/10 cake. 10/10 easy communication. Would recommend!

Ok ok, what's better than driving to Canada to eat vegan food, I'll tell you .. driving to Canada to eat vegan food while meeting new vegan friends! We decided to meet up at Mila Plant-Based, 100% vegan restaurant in the downtown area sort of right in-between Downtown Eastside, Science World, and Gastown. The restaurant has a lovely, quaint ambiance, feels very welcoming upon entering. The bathroom was .. well, posh! I don't normally make a point to comment on bathroom decor, while average in size, I felt like I was being upgraded to First Class lol. Ok, moving right along .. lol They have two menus, a Weekend Brunch Menu and, for all other hours, a Lunch/Dinner Menu, ..we ordered from the Weekend Brunch Menu. I had the Bibimbap Bowl - rice bowl with Yo Egg, mushroom bacon, kimchi, tempura yam, cucumber, carrot, gochujang sauce. This bowl had many layers of unique flavors all married perfectly in every exquisite bite, I say this very sincerely! My wife ordered the Pina Colada Pancakes - pancakes, toasted coconut syrup, cashews, cocktail cherries, rum-candied pineapple, mint. Each bite easily lived up to the the decadence displayed in the included image. We absolutely have to find our way back to Mila to try their Lunch/Dinner menu as it includes some amazing sounding options such as, Feta Stuffed Date - date, feta, pistachio, olive oil, maldon salt, ABURI LOX OSHI - carrot lox, aburi sauce, shiso, serrano, 6 pieces, Tuna Crispy Rice - watermelon akami tuna, sushi rice, lime kewpie mayo, green onion, sesame seeds, 3 pieces, and much more. We had quite a few options to choose from regarding where to meet for brunch, with every option sounding wonderful in their own way. Ultimately, we decided on Mila because of their unique, fresh and inspiring sounding dishes and yeah, they did not disappoint. Thanks so much for dropping by and reading this review. Do yourself a favor and extend the same courtesy to Mila by ... dropping by .. and enjoying some amazing tasty food.

An added crunch and some true delicious flavor!! The crust, being GF and the specific ingredients, led it to be quite crunchy, but I love crunchy crusts. I hadn't had lunch but a few hours prior so I had half the pizza at dinner, than half before bed after drinks! Yum!!! My husband had the Samsara Sausage pizza. He said it was just okay. He said the sausage tasted like a Light life Hot Dog. Which is obviously NOT what you're going for with sausage. Our friends shared the Buffalo Buddha pizza and gave hubby their last piece. He said that was quite nice and he'd have had that again. They too had the GF Yam-cassava crust. I'd definitely get this pizza again but I would NOT walk here and preferably be in a group for safety.

The Garden Rolls were absolutely the #1 worst ones we've ever eaten! We've had hundreds of fresh rolls at dozens of places and sadly, none were as tasteless as these. They consisted of noodles, a bit of flavorless tofu and cucumber. Fresh rolls MUST have at least one or more of the following: fresh mint, fresh cilantro or fresh Thai Basil. Hestia's had NONE!. To add insult to injury, the watery sauce also had NO flavor. To add more insult, they were baggy and poorly wrapped and the innards kept falling out. Not fun and definitely not good. The king oyster mushrooms were very good, but there was a ton of pink mayo dousing it. I would have preferred the sauce be in a separate bowl so we could choose how much dipping we'd like to do. The saffron tofu bowl was sensational! Perfectly spiced and full of a huge variety of well-cooked veggies plus the saffron rice was good too. In the Bay Area we have Shizen/Tane and which I can safely say are still pretty different from Vegan Shoku. (Both are so good!!). Vegan Shoku uses konjac-based sashimi which allows for sashimi and nigiri that looks like its conventional fish counterparts. Today, we ordered 1. Salmon Eggplant This reminded me of nasu dengaku but with a "salmon salad" (think tuna salad) on top of charred eggplant. There was a miso sauce, the same that's used for nasu dengaku dressing the entire thing. The eggplant was creamy but not oil-laden, and the salmon worked nicely with the eggplant and miso dressing. Every bite was perfection. Each bite was garnished with fried carrot strings and beet. Sooooo good! 2. Shoku Roll We figured we should definitely order this since it's the restaurant's namesake. Since it was topped with mango & a popping boba, it had a hint of sweetness which was refreshing. 3. Dynamite Roll Absolutely gorgeous roll that packed as much flavor as it did color. The sweet, savory, creamy and crunchy.... this roll takes you on a journey and more! 4. Teriyaki Beef Roll Don't ask questions, just order this! It's like a beef donburi in roll form. 5. Salmon Nigiri I've never been a fan of seafood so this was a bit of a risky pick. Sure enough, it was too realistic for me so I had to hand it off to my bf to finish. For those who love and miss the taste of salmon, this is a must try! 6. Takoyaki While this looked like takoyaki, it definitely wasn't. They were still tasty but they were more like meatballs than anything. Takoyaki is supposed to have chunks of octopus (which when I make it at home, I use konyaku), shredded cabbage, ginger in a savory pancake-like batter cooked in a ball-shaped cast iron mold, topped with aonori, mayo and brown sauce. The meatballs were in a brown sauce of some kind and were incredibly robust and meaty. They were too meaty for my liking (some mock meats sort of gross me out!) but that's more of a preference thing and doesn't speak to the quality. It was very flavorful, it just wasn't for me. 7. Matcha Ice cream The ice cream looked like it was slice from a cake! Maybe they peeled back the paper carton of the ice cream and cut a slice from that. It looked super surgical and clean, like art! The flavor was super robust and matcha-y. It was not the typical (disappointing) green-colored ice cream that tasted mostly of vanilla and had hints of match. This was the real deal! What a rare find! It extremely pricey but it more than made up for all the times I've ordered green-colored matcha imposter ice creams, so get this if you are a matcha lover! Being how uncommon these types of restaurants are, the server was super patient in answering my questions and was helpful in making suggestions too. If I find myself in BC in the future, you can bet I'll be making another stop in here to try other items on their menu. This was such a treat!!

We had noodles, burgers, a great variety that we all shared. The drinks were tasty - I loved my Gin Spritzer. The shots were also great. China Study is sweet and creamy, with a dash of cinnamon. Hidden Dragon has the refreshing lychee liquor with the bite of tequila. Megahits of 2010s pop play in the background - great vibes.

The venue is nice and big and airy, with the 2 walls of solid windows. Great for people watching. The place is definitely modern and hipster looking. Maybe because it was a slow day, but staff were a bit lacking. Buddy and I walked in there and the place was empty. We looked around for a few minutes and literally nobody showed up. It was only after we had left and taken a few steps before someone suddenly appeared and motioned for us to come back inside. Although my buddy insisted the place sold burgers, something looked off. I also noticed the sign advertising "fysh tacos". The menu also listed a "chick'un burger". Confirmed with the waitress that the place is indeed 100% vegan. Oops. Oh well, we're here. Might as well give them a try. The chick'un burger is actually a slice of mushroom that has been battered and fried like fried chicken. Not sure if this is supposed to be the case, but the mushroom itself was actually quite bitter. Fortunately the batter masked the taste. The fries are pretty decent here. I also tried the Crispy BBQ burger. This thing tastes more like the run of the mill vegan patties out there in supermarkets. I think it was soy/tofu based. Interestling enough, the burgers actually have a Beyond upgrade for an additional fee, so I imagine the standard burger patties are made in house. I guess the place is worth checking out if one is vegan, but for those who aren't, there unfortunately isn't much for us here. I did hear the coffee here is pretty decent though. Maybe I'll give it a try next time.

As the weather gets warmer, I am craving something fresh and refreshing. After browsing the menu, I…read morewas convinced the mango salad was exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately, the menu doesn't have side dishes, so I ended up ordering the lemongrass vermicelli along with a guava juice instead. The guava juice was a bit of a surprise--not quite the freshly made tropical drink I had imagined. It turned out to be the same bottled guava juice you can easily find at the grocery store, just served in a glass and at restaurant prices. Then my lemongrass vermicelli arrived, and the server warned me to be careful because it was very hot. That definitely caught me off guard! When I think of vermicelli bowls, I picture cool noodles, crisp vegetables, fragrant herbs, and a refreshing meal perfect for a sunny day. This version was served piping hot, making it feel more comforting than refreshing. That said, the dish was still packed with flavour. The fragrant lemongrass aroma filled the bowl, the vegetables added plenty of texture, and the savoury components came together nicely. It just wasn't the light, cooling meal I had originally set my heart on when I walked in, dreaming about mango salad on a warm day.

A big thank you to Mallory and the kitchen staff! This review is 3 months late, but even a few months later, we remember our meal like it was yesterday and can't wait to return the next time we're in Vancouver. Getting to experience a Michelin Guide-recommended vegan restaurant was one of the highlights of our trip! We had (from the June 2025 menu): the Bread, the Broccolini, the Chickpea Tofu, and the Potato Cavatelli. Not a single crumb, morsel, drizzle of sauce, or even pea was left on the plates! Every bite was so full of flavor and decadent, we were so sad when the meal was over ;) The stand-out though was the Chickpea Tofu, the best tofu we've ever had and it seemed to just melt in your mouth. We also loved sitting at the bar that overlooks the open kitchen. They offer those seats for guests who want a more immersive, interactive dining experience. It was really cool to watch the chefs create each masterpiece. Overall a truly memorable and delicious experience!

They helped with suggestions and I appreciated the explanation when each dish came out. Lovely space inside and had a nice little corner to carry on lovely conversation. Would go back again -- and soon! They change their menu every few weeks.
