I love vegan treats so I'm kind of surprised it took me so long to visit this bakery. I've tried their stuff before at the Vegan Night Market but I visited the storefront for the first time today. It's really small, there's standing room for probably no more than three people inside and no seating, but there are two tables outside. Despite the small size, they have a good selection of both sweet and savoury baked goods. I opted to try the Italian sausage calzone and a white chocolate raspberry cheesecake, but there was lots of other things that looked tempting, namely the tiramisu, cookies, coffee loaf cake, and savoury croissants. I thought both of the items I tried were delicious. I was really excited about the calzone because I love calzone but it's really rare to see a vegan version. The calzone was flavourful and saucy inside. The crust looked a little dark on the outside, but was tender inside. I asked for it to be heated and I believe it was heated in an oven instead of a microwave because it didn't get the weird mushy microwave texture. The cheesecake wasn't exactly like I was expecting; the filling was light almost like cream cheese whipped cream rather than a typical thick cheesecake filling, however it was no less tasty because of this. It wasn't too sweet and the tart fruitiness of the raspberry swirl came through well. The slice was huge - easily big enough to share but also manageable for one person (me) who really wants cheesecake. They have a small hot drink menu too with coffee and tea. I got the "traditional chai", which was actually a chai latte made with a teabag and not what I would consider traditional chai, but I did think it was a good chai latte. It had the right balance of brewed tea and milk. I appreciated that they asked my preference for sweetened or unsweetened. Unfortunately they would not make my drink in the personal mug I brought. When I visited their table at the Vegan Night Market, I had a tiramisu cake cup and really enjoyed that. They don't sell the cake cups in the store. I think the prices were very reasonable. The calzone was the most expensive at $8 but was pretty substantial. The cheesecake was $6.25 which was not a bad deal for almost a double serving. $5 for the chai is acceptable. I would recommend checking them out if you like vegan baked goods or if you just want to try something different. read more

This bakery is part of the current Metro Vancouver Croissant Crawl and is offering a tasty-looking Black Forest Croissant. On the festival website, they say to 'pre-order online and via phone. Around a dozen max produced daily'! First of all, how serious are they in participating in this festival when they have such a low number of croissants available, especially on the weekend? On Friday afternoon, I phoned them and left a clear message that I wished to buy one of their special croissants to be picked up by 3 o'clock on Saturday the 8th. It took me 52 minutes to reach Vogue Cakes by transit, and when I arrived at 2:40 PM, I was told they didn't have any croissants left! But even worse, they hadn't checked their phone's voicemail for my order! That is an unacceptable business practice -- I left the bakery empty-handed and super disappointed. Excellent vegan pastries if price is no object. Chocolate Cheesecake was good 4/5. Lemon Cheesecake was the standout 5/5. Baked Donuts start at 3 for $9, 6 for $15 and a dozen for $24. I can't wait to try the spinach buns too! The cake was the best I have ever had. I was looking for Red Velvet Cupcakes with cream cheese icing for my friend's birthday. Vogue cakes came up and they looked like they were close to where I live, and the 2 reviews I read both were very positive (each gave 5 stars) I checked out the website and decided to order a dozen Red Velvet Cupcakes. This was done via email. I got a response a little while later confirming my order. The odd thing was the address is not listed anywhere on the website. With the confirmation email I was told that the pick up location was not downtown (as it appears on the Yelp map on the page) it was way out in West Broadway past Arbutus! This was not cool as I live in Yaletown and don't drive so I had wanted a place I could walk to. Lucky for me, a friend offered to go pick them up. He had quite the time finding the location which is actually in Tera V Burger. 2961 West Broadway, Had this been listed on the website, I would of not ordered from them. Well I was hoping that the cupcakes would be worth it. Were they? Sadly NO. the cupcake itself was moist and tasty, yes. But the frosting? It had NO taste whatsoever- none. And it coated the roof of my mouth . I was so upset that I was about to go to the grocery store to see what I could add to make the frosting have taste. My friend offered to make cream cheese frosting from scratch for me, but him having to whip that up, then scrape off all the old frosting, then reapply the new stuff was simply going to take too long. And why should I have to do this when I paid almost 30$ for them? I just brought them as is. They were certainly not a hit and I heard complaints about the frosting all night. Very sadly disappointed at the taste and more then a bit put off about the misleading and far away location. I will never order anything from this place again. read more

I needed an emergency cake, after the bakery I initially chose inexplicably ceased communication. I contacted Vogue via Facebook Messenger, and was promptly greeted and my order confirmed in the same day. I ordered an unusual-sounding flavor: Earl Grey with Cream Cheese frosting. Why not? Delivery fee to South Van was reasonable, especially since I don't have a car and am not a local. Delivery arrived within the estimated time window, and was friendly. The cake itself was amazing. The cake was firm, but not dense, and just sweet enough to be eaten without frosting - the Earl Grey flavor was very subtle but the crunchy tea bits sprinkled on top of the cake helped tie it together. The frosting itself was bliss - not so cream-cheesy as a dairy based confection but with the same creaminess and little zing in the aftertaste. It's nice and sweet, but doesn't taste sugary like the cheap stuff from a grocery store bakery. Everyone else agreed it was delicious (of the six people who had a slice, I was the only vegan). No one could tell it was vegan without being told, they just thought it was incredibly good cake! Vogue had asked me to let them know what everyone thought of the cake, and when I reported the good news back through FB Messenger, they were adorably delighted. It seems like a small, neighbourly thing, but their communication style and consistency made me feel not just like a valued customer, but also like this was a special, personal interaction. I can be nothing but effusive about my experience with Vogue. They will be my go-to baker for birthday cakes anywhere in Van, and I'll be grabbing one of their confections whenever I see one at Nesters Market or other store they are carried. tl;dr HIGHLY RECOMMEND. :) read more

No one attending the party was vegan (I'm not either), so I decided not to tell anyone that it was a vegan cake beforehand so that they wouldn't make any assumptions. Everyone loved it! My husband and I got the cupcakes for our wedding reception here in November. The good: VEGAN! Willing to vaganize a recipe I found online so we had exactly what we were looking for! The cake itself was dense and moist with very good flavour! The bad: The stand we rented (I can't remember for how much) didn't work as the top wouldn't stay on, so was unusable. Thankfully our venue had one on hand for us to use (for free), but when I notified Vogue of this there was no offer of a refund for the faulty rental, just a comment about other's having used it before with no trouble. I'm so glad I came across this great little bakery. I've ordered from Vogue Cakes twice now, and both times it has met and surpassed my expectations of vegan yumminess. I'm not even a vegan. The chocolate green tea cake was my favourite - it was like eating little bites of heaven. The vegan frosting and decorations were out of this world. Both were special sugar-free orders that Vogue kindly did for me, and was such a huge hit at both of my parties. It's a good bang for your buck considering the cost of cakes at a lot of other specialty bakeries, and both flavour and artwork are one of a kind! On Saturday I was scrambling to find a cake that could be delivered for a friend's surprise birthday celebration on Sunday after a golf tournament. I've had the pleasure of trying a few of their items and now they are my new favorite place for baked goods! It is the best cheesecake I have had in years, vegan or not and their chocolate truffle cake is absolutely divine! I have also tried their red velvet cake, their cinnamon rolls, and their cookies and I can't even tell they are vegan! Amazing! The quality of the ingredients are very good and the little details on the cakes are also quite tasty as I got addicted to the fragrant organic candied orange peels. I was skeptical of vegan desserts but my eyes get wide every time I take a bite of their stuff as I am always pleasantly surprised at how awesome they taste.
