My husband and I have eaten at the cafe next door about a year ago and noticed lever coffee as we walked there. We finally got a chance to come back and try the coffee and it was a 10/10! We came on a Saturday in the late morning and it was not overly busy but definitely poppin so keep that in mind. The decor is beautiful and just to add in something small that I noticed, they had a cup stand at their door so you can set it down and open it in case you have your hands full with other goodies. I've never seen that before so I thought that was pretty cool. At least I hope that's what it was for lol. Anyways, service was great and fast. The coffee was soooo good. My husband is really picky with coffee and was raving how good it was. I would describe the flavored one that I got as the perfect blend of sweetness with that coffee taste. My boyfriend and I ate at Alamo Cafe for the first time and peeked around in the complex and saw lever. Decided to check it out after breakfast and so glad we did! I ordered their cold brew with their homemade syrups and it was delicious! Their chocolate chip cookie-- to die for!!! So soft and chocolatey! We were fighting for the last bite. A hidden gem in Alamo. It's located right in front of the Chase bank and there's plenty of parking. I really like the coffee here, but the matcha is okay (I think the matcha powder is mixed with sugar here like Starbucks). Lever Coffee was great and I think it could have easily been a 5/5 stars except for one thing. I found Lever Coffee on Yelp and made a stop here early one Saturday morning before I headed to Santa Cruz for the day. I ordered an iced lavender vanilla latte with almond milk and a ham and cheese pastry. I wanted to make sure my drink was made with almond milk since I'm lactose intolerant. Shortly after finishing my drink, my stomach started to hurt really bad! I'm pretty sure the barista probably forgot to make it with almond milk and used regular milk instead. Gosh my stomach was dying the rest of the day. I'm sure it was on accident, but hopefully next time they will be careful about which milks they use for people with food/dairy sensitivities. The place was cute and service was nice, the lady working there was really friendly too. I'll still probably give them another chance if I'm in the area, but I'll keep my eye on the milk they're pouring in my drink. read more

This was a surprise stop for us because it was right off the highway. When we arrived it was so cute. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and the decor was super cute. Great place to hang out for a few hours. The cold brew had excellent flavor and the service was pretty fast too. We also had the croissant bites and it was really tasty. Giving it a four stars because my friend who had the matcha not pictured in my review was not the best. They did not take time to sift through the matcha before mixing. I would recommend getting a coffee instead. The cold brew was a special delicious and it was nice because the ice cube was made out of cold brew so it wouldn't dilute when the ice cube melted. read more

Hands down, the best coffee shop in the Bay Area! I've tried many others that just don't compare to the flavor and quality of their coffees, teas, etc. The pastries are also so delicious and fresh! Lever has a very nicely decorated indoor space with several tables and a great vibe. There is ample seating on their outdoor patios as well. I also can't say enough good things about the staff. This is a sweet place and on my way out, I met one of the original owners. She told me about the wooden coffee stand near the front door where you can put your coffee while you open the door to exit. Brilliant! It has just amazing ambiance with the plants and patio seating. Of course, it could have been improved by fewer young children and their energy, but that cannot be helped so the place presents a place to meditate on the realness of things... I would definitely recommend visiting Lever if you are looking for a quiet place to relax and drink a cup of coffee or tea. I got an iced matcha latte with oat milk ($7) and took it to the deck out in the front of the shop; it's well-shaded and quiet. However, they also have a deck in the back and on the side of the parking lot they have in the back. There's lots of parking and lots of outdoor seating. I liked the matcha; nothing out of this world but it wasn't too sweet and tasted good to me. There seemed to only be one person working while I visited but I did come in during a slow time. She was very sweet and finished making my drink very fast. There is also a restroom on the back porch! Would come again for the vibes. read more

Complaining about a coffee shop in Alamo is some Olympic-level 1st-world behavior that only a Special 'K' platinum-blonde suburbanatrix can pull off with Professional-Grade Privilege. I'm not one of them...yet. As such, I will disperse praiseworthy & punitive measures with liberality as I sip on my double-shot decaf soy latte with 3.5 drops of fair-trade vanilla extract through my dolphin-recycled United Nations-approved cardboard straw, all while lamenting over the putrid color of my Tesla. 1) THE GOOD: I've been frequenting Sideboard in Danville for many-a-moons. But...something...never...felt right...until I discovered Lever Coffee. Existential breakthrough achieved. Epiphany: Sideboard is for the polo shirt-encased population who are well-entrenched within the "House, Kids & Lawn" lifestyle. You know, the Work-a-Daddy, Mind-your-Mommy, Jim-n-Sue types. Lever Coffee, with its industrial-chic interior sprinkled with antique Singer sewing machine tables, is for those who have yet to make peace with their ignominious defeat -- aka moving to a bedroom-community -- and thus will hang onto their last remnants of city-cool persona. I am the latter. The owner has clearly poured his heart into the design process. Not only does Lever achieve a stylistically cohesive effect, the creativity output is only outmatched by the ingenious functionality of its furniture layout, shelving placement, and intuitive flow. Speaking of shelving placement, as a wannabe design aficionado, I would like to applaud the owner for installing a mini floating shelf next to the exit so that patrons can place their hot cup on the surface before they open the solid wood door, thereby preventing another Liebeck vs. McDonald's. I live for these moments when common sense & beauty align perfectly (like prenups & 4th marriages). As for their coffee? Call the French Press for this Americano has grounds for permanent patronage! 2) THE BAD: I have yet to figure out a way to teleport their "West Virginia Mountain Mama" vine-covered front porch over to my house. From the John Denver porch, I can sit n' watch as the birds flutter, as the leaves dance in the wind, as the Lululemon-armored Alamo Women grab their drinks before they head to their Pilates class...and that is when I knew I've 'made it'. Women drinking coffee & doing Pilates on a weekday morning at 10am -- Affluent Neighborhood. Men drinking coffee & bench-pressing on their lawn on a weekday morning at 10am -- Affordable Neighborhood. I want that porch. I must have it. 3) THE UGLY: "Ugly" is an ugly word. Nanjing 1937 was ugly. Birkenau 1944 was ugly. And Kid Rock's 2024 RNC performance was the ugliest. But until I find a better adjective, "ugly" will have to do. On a magical Wednesday afternoon, I strolled into Lever at 5pm, which, for any sensible patron, was deemed ample time to order an $8 cup of entitlement and enjoy the sipping process on the porch before they close at 5:30pm. Alas, sense & sensibility did not triumph that day. Upon asking if we can enjoy our goodies outside, the tall barista/cashier/dungeon master, with all the bluntness of a beleaguered TSA agent, said to us: "No, I already stacked up the chairs and I'm closing up." Had he flashed even a micro-smile, it would have sent him to the hospital. And I'm not sure if Lever Coffee offers health insurance to their employees. Look, I want to get back to my basement of wall-to-wall Mountain Dew for my D&D tournament as much as the next guy. And were someone to arrive at 5:35pm demanding a cup o' Joe & drinking it on the porch, I'd be royally peeved as well. But arriving a full 30 minutes before closing only to find out they're almost closed is, well, tantamount to showing up to the hotel for a ménage à trois only to see the dynamic duo waiting outside for their Uber ride to take them home. I hope Victoria's Secret has a generous return policy. I had 2 choices: A) Offer to help Dungeon Master stack up more chairs & tables AND create his character sheet (alignment: True Neutral). Or B) Come back at a time when my money doesn't function as a toxic roll of paper napalm assaulting his spiritual essence. I was a barista for 10 years. I get it. Sometimes I just wanted to go home. Sometimes this job would have been fantastic if there weren't any customers. Sometimes 5:30p really means 5p. Thank you for training me to not show up at 5pm, Dungeon Master. I will be a good girl from now on, Master. Woof! Epilogue: I am now a permanent Morning Lever Gal. Walked into Lever yesterday at 9am and saw one of my favorite staff members wearing an Ace Ventura Pet Detective t-shirt....I didn't know whether to hug him, high-five him, or challenge him to a Throwback T-shirt contest. *solely matcha review* been on a matcha kick and am trying different coffee spots that serve matcha in the bay, and stopped by here one wednesday late morning with a friend to try out their matcha latte. i got mine iced and unsweetened, and it was a decent sized drink. i opted for whole milk (have been having mixed feelings about oat milk and certain oat milk brands having certain additives that upset the gut as a fellow GI/IBS girlie who was also taking a chance on dairy), and the milk was a bit too overpowering the matcha flavor. i did enjoy and finish it, but would probably get with a dairy alternative milk next time to see if i like it better. read more
