My husband I went there for an early dinner. First and last time! The portions were tiny, the bread they brought out was literally one piece cut in a few pieces. I felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome. I honestly think all these 9 reviews are fake or written by workers. The food they brought out was nothing like it says on the menu. I don't write reviews often and give 5 stars but our brunch experience at Leyla yesterday compels me to do so. First of all the decor and ambience was completely divine. It's modern and elegant yet warm. My girlfriends and I shared the spinach yarma, a cheese pide, and had the shakshuka and the Turk for brunch. Plus some cocktails. Everything was fresh and excellent. I was able to get a same day reservation here and I'm so glad I did! The cocktails were delicious and light. Perfect for summer. We got the three cheese pide, which was a great start to our meal. My wife and I stumbled upon this great new restaurant in our neighborhood, not knowing that its owner also owns Bodrum, another favorite restaurant of ours, on 88th and Amsterdam. This place is a bit more fancy than Bodrum and has a different menu, but similarly high quality and authentic Turkish cuisine. The Turkish flatbread (called Pide) and Zucchini fritter appetizers were excellent. I will definitely come back for the Eriste pasta dish that was absolutely delicious. read more

Nice option on the UWS. Closer to a 3.5 star rating but I'm willing to round up for a nice option in an area where choices in this dining range are limited. Cocktail menu was a little one note but the negronis were nice and strong, so we were happy. A few items happened to be "sold out" at our 515 reservation, so a bit of a disappointment there. Zucchini fritters were excellent - the yogurt sauce was superb. Muhammara was good but not revelatory, pide was the equivalent...happy making but not epic. The pasta that all wax rhapsodic about was good, but again, I wasn't blown away. Satisfied for sure but not giddy with the fun of a new discovery. read more

We came in late (9:20ish) for our 9pm reservations & they were extremely accommodating. The food was great!! Smaller portions but high quality. The atmosphere was welcoming, classy, clean, and stylish! They have a lot more seating inside than it looks at first. We stayed until around 10:45 (talking with family and lost track of time). Even with the late stay the service was amazing, they never rushed us, and it was a great experience. Amazing, amazing food. Ordered takeout from here and couldn't be more pleased with what we had. Pickup was super easy. The food was ready right on time. The restaurant is on W 74th St, right next to Columbus Ave. It provides a nice and quiet dining experience for both inside and outside guests. We had ordered the grilled branzino, the quinoa hummus salad, Karides Güveç, falafel, and the slow cooked short rib pide. All the flavors from these various dishes were incredible. I couldn't stop thinking as I shoved the food in that "this is so good!" I can't wait to order from them again. Thank goodness for curbside pick-up! New to the UWS and have been sampling all of the incredible mediterranean cuisine & this place is delicious! Went for just apps so I had the Falafel with tahini (5 large falafel- most places only give you three I've noticed) and I had the Spinach Yarma- which was also delicious. Came in a nice reusable plastic container so I saved my leftovers and had it on toast for lunch. Will definitely be coming back to try more! read more

Truly amazing lamb shank and the best place to get dinner before seeing a show at the Beacon Theatre. We ordered a salad and pide (don't remember the exact items, they were good) but the 5-star review is really for their lamb shank. The meat was so tender it fell off the bone, incredibly flavorful, and paired well with the mushrooms and creamy risotto. We had brunch here this Father's Day and the food and the entire experience could not have been nicer! We were a party of 5. While Resy only took a reservation up to 4, in the "Notes" I noted we'd be 5. They seated us in the back garden and it was delightful. They never rushed us, although we took our time on everything and they were relaxed. The food was delicious, and exactly as described, in response to questions. Tried Tessa (affiliated restaurant nearby) but they were closed for a private party. They recommended Leyla so we gave it a go. Manager asked if we had a reservation and looked a bit stern when we said "no". But he seated us in just a few minutes. My sister said he'd given her an inspecting look that made her uncomfortable. He barely noticed me. Perhaps my sister was his type. Waitress was quite sweet. We asked a few questions about some of the dishes and she described them. Zucchini fritters were good. Lamacun was also tasty but smaller than seemed usual. Eriste was good but was a bit different from waitress' description. We asked for bread and were served 1 pita cut into 6 pieces for a $1.00 fee. The eriste is definitely a dish best accompanied by bread so being charged for it was bullshit. The only chicken dish was a thigh. Why? We had a pistachio "mud" heaven for dessert. The mastic ice cream was interesting. Why the dish is named "mud" heaven made little sense. It's more a nut fritter (fell apart too easily) with ice cream on top. We noticed the manager berate 2 of the staff. He was quick and loud about it. They just plopped dishes down and reached in between us with not much grace or "excuse me". We kept saying "thank you" to the staff but got no replies. They looked anxious and tense as if they were just trying to make it out alive. We asked for some leftovers to be boxed to go. Back waiter did not return with it. We asked and he said it was at the host desk. We'd not have known that had we not asked. The portions are small. The staff are not really into "it". The manager seemed like a dick. Replacing him might lift this place's spirit... a lot. read more

Our friend recently moved into the neighborhood so we checked Leyla out on a raining spring day. Not an expert in Turkish cuisine by any means, but this place was awesome! Great food. Nice ambience. The owner gave us a crash course in Turkish wine and we loved the Kayra bottle. Lamb shank was cooked perfectly. The three cheese pide was a great app. Closed it out with some yummy baklava. We wanted to go to Leyla to have a nice family dinner. My wife is allergic to dairy. We were not able to have anything on the menu, because they were not able to accommodate any changes. All the food must be pre made because they could not even substitute plain rice without butter. The service was rude and condescending. Now that I am reading through other posts, it's clear they have no ability to adjust for any food allergies. Do yourself a favor and skip Leyla. Fantastic service. Honestly the best service we've had in a long time. We were dining with our 2yr old on a Friday evening and the manager/owner was amazingly friendly and quick with the highchair. Found this spot after just moving to the neighborhood. WHAT a find!!! Fantastic options if you are vegetarian. Shared 2 starters (Vegetarian Pide, Cheese Pide) and 2 salads (shaved zucchini/asparagus) and Mahummara and the pistachio baklava for dessert. I would order ALL of them again!! We sat outside in front and it was delightful, but also saw there was a great back garden which would love to try the next time. Short rib pide: 4.5/5 - The short rib was tender but not too soft, the bread was baked perfectly and was like a nice pizza crust. The cheese was a little missing and it was a little small but still delicious. Beetroot carpaccio: 4/5 - The beetroot carpaccio was good, the pine nuts were a nice touch, and the arugula was light and refreshing on a hot day. Lamb burger: 3.5/5 - Medium rare came out medium well, and while the fries were cooked well - they lacked a little bit of taste. My wife and I snuck into a table as they opened at 5pm on a Saturday, but I'd highly recommend making a reservation as we got the last one! The food was absolutely 5 stars. We had 4-5 apps/small plates and 1 entree. The falafel and stuffed eggplant with pilaf were standouts. We had the chicken which was perfectly prepared. The kicker was their ice-cream. It was unbelievably creamy, and we ordered it on a candied pear, which was a great combination of textures. We will absolutely be back often to check out the rest of the menu! Stay Away! Made a reservation one week in advance for my wife and I. when we arrived we were seated at a table located in the hallway leading to the back courtyard. There was absolutely no light. We respectfully and politely asked for a different table. There were at least three or four other tables available within 10 to 15 feet. The manager insisted that he could not help us change tables and became rude and insisted that I cannot go to the back of the restaurant to retrieve my wife. In all of my living on the upper West side of Manhattan (40 plus years) I have never experienced such arrogance and inability to address a simple problem. Some of the best Middle Eastern food I've ever had. Went here with my foodie influencer friend to assist with taking pictures and was blown away by the freshness and flavorful dishes they presented us.
