The front of Li Ming's. There's always a lot of parking.

This review is from the point of view of my wife and I. I'm a white American who lived outside the US for about 13 years and visited/lived in 27 countries. My wife is a Filipina who is part Chinese. In Greensboro, there are two large Asian grocery stores: Li Ming's and Super G. We only go to Super G when we want to buy fresh banana leaves because it's the only place we have found that has them. If you want to find a better selection and much nicer modern facilities and environment, go to Li Ming's. They have a massive selection of items, so, with the exception of fresh banana leaves (what's up with that Li Ming's? ‍), you will pretty much find what you want. Let me provide a caveat: I am not including Indian foods, I'm talking about East and Southeast Asia. Because a lot of what we get is for making Filipino foods, that's the primary focus of what we look for when shopping there. They have a great selection of longabiza, Halo-Halo mixes, Mama Sita's mixes, Datu Puti, lumpia wrappers, salted eggs, and everything else on your list. They also have a ton of snacks, many of which are new to us, so we always get something different to try. Plus, you can get Marie biscuits, which our granddaughter LOVES. If you go to the far left of the store you will find a lot of kitchen goods as well. There are pots and pans, chopsticks, and other assorted goodies. Just browsing is fun! In short, Li Ming's is a great place to shop. It's well lit, has roomy aisles, ample parking, is rarely crowded, and an inventory that is second to none. Oh, and if you need help finding something, everyone there is super friendly and will take you to whatever you're looking for.

Nice selection of vegetables. Very high priced compared to other places. They only give calendars if you spend $100 or more. This is definitely catered to the Chinese market more so than Korean or Japanese. Parking is ample but turning into is a pain. It's a tight turn into the plaza to have to go down a steep hill. At 1000 the parking lot was full of abandoned carts. They have a fresher selection of veggies than super G market but be prepared to spend twice the amount for them.

Global Mart is a mostly Asian grocery store. I would say international applies here but a majority are Asian based goods. If you are looking for a supermarket that has spices, fresh seafood, a range of fruit and vegetables that your local grocery does stock you should give Global Mart a try. There are pre-packaged imported foods and frozen items. Such a variety of dumplings. In addition there are housewares in the rear of the store. If you don't want to prepare your intercontinental cuisine they also offer ready-to-serve meals. The inside of the store is old. The building was a TJMaxx many years ago so don't expect anything fancy. The smell can be overwhelming because of the mix of fresh items. Also don't look for any type of customer service. You need to know what you want when enter because if you don't know what you want be prepared to rome the aisles looking for what you need.

This is one of the strangest markets I have ever seen, but I actually love quirky places like this. The seafood section is excellent and the sheer size of this place is amazing. I did not partake of food in the restaurant. I would have given 4 stars if the place was a bit cleaner. The water tanks were pretty dirty, and one king crab was dead just hanging out with the live one. I was especially surprised by giant carved sculptures. I am not sure if any of the patrons would buy a $18,000 wooden oxen sculpture with cute carved children. I liked the fat Buddhas.

Where was Li Ming's when I was growing up in the Triad?! Back in my day, we had to go to Dynasty on Spring Garden for our bags of rice and Chinese ingredients! *shakes cane* Since moving away from the Triad years ago, I'm pleasantly surprised on my return visits to find new, big Asian supermarkets such as the Korean-owned Super G Mart and this Chinese-owned Li Ming's Global Mart (opened in 2013), both in Greensboro. While they can't compare to big city Asian supermarkets (e.g. Assi, Great Wall, Super H Mart) in terms of quality, freshness, cleanliness, and selection, they are definitely a step in the right direction and a plus for the Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point area. Li Ming's occupies the old Lowes Foods grocery store space next to the now-empty T.J.Maxx space in the shopping center at the corner of High Point Rd and S Holden Rd. I have a lot of childhood memories visiting this stretch of High Point Rd as a kid. It has changed a lot since the 80s and 90s with a lot more ethnic restaurants and businesses opening in the 2000s and 2010s. Li Ming's is a medium-to-large sized Asian supermarket carrying everything from Chinese fruits and vegetables to live seafood to hard-to-find Asian and Hispanic ingredients (such as various brand rice, noodles, sauces, & beverages) to cookware for both home and restaurant use. There's even a food court with a Chinese bakery, hot food stall (Chinese food buffet), and Cantonese-style BBQ display with roast pork and whole roast duck. It's a little ambitious and the selection isn't always good nor fresh, but hey, it's better than nothing (or driving to Charlotte or RTP). At the bakery, you can buy various Chinese breads and buns. They have a deal: Buy five buns, get one free. When it comes to Hong Kong BBQ, you can purchase a whole roast duck for $21.99 (half $10.99) and roast pork for $6.99 a pound. The food court has a $7.50 Vietnamese pho (noodle soup) special and multi-person combo meals that include steamed fish (tilapia), duck, and a stir-fried vegetable for $18 (two people) and $27 (three people). I always like checking out the seafood sections at these markets. On a recent visit, the tanks were chock full of live catfish, tilapia, rock crab, lobster, toad fish, Warsaw grouper, eel, and Dungeness crab. There are also various clams (e.g. Manila clams, razor clams) and conch along with frogs and a decent assortment of fish on ice. The Chinese vegetable selection is respectable especially because the store stocks my favorite of all-time: Ong choy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipomoea_aquatica)! Ong choy is known by many names. It's a crispy, leafy green vegetable with unique hollow stems. It's absolutely delicious when stir-fried with garlic. You can get it for $3.99 a pound here. It's labeled as "Kong Yin Cai" on the refrigerated produce shelf. The kitchenware section is interesting to look at because they stock many commercial-grade pots, pans, grills, and miscellaneous utensils. Some of those ginormous pots aren't meant for home, but rather for a crawfish, pho, or ramen restaurant! Speaking of noodles, they have options galore when it comes to instant (and unhealthy) noodles. Instant spicy Thai tom yum and Shin Ramyun FTW. As is common with Asian markets, Li Ming's isn't going to be as "clean" as a standard American grocery store. You may encounter a funky smell or two. However, you will find food items here that you may very well not find elsewhere in the Triad. Li Ming's is open daily, 9am to 9pm. Since the space next door is vacant, parking isn't an issue like it can be sometimes at Super G Mart.

Stewed Chicken, Chicken Wings, Beef (on the bone), and white rice, for $5.99!

I was determined to try some of the Asian food here in the small cafeteria section on the far right hand side of the market - it's like a small food court, including a bakery area. This time was much better since there was a very nice , older Asian lady who was very helpful, identifying the dishes I ask about. There are probably about 12 to 15 dishes, including most of the usual Americanized Chinese favorites, and a few different twists. If you choose the combo, you pick 3 entrees to go with white rice, for $5.99, yeap $5.99. I choose Gen'l Tso's, a sliced Potato dish, Chicken Wings, a Stewed Chicken dish (cooked on the boe), a Beef dish that was different (it was cooked on the bone, and a dish much like Kung Pao Chicken with some mild heat. This is pretty much a takeout place, so be prepared for that. All of the dishes were good to very good, though the sliced potato dish was a bit bland, and only the Kung Pao style dish had any real heat. The Gen'l Tso's was a nice version, but on the mild side. Both the Beef dish and Chicken dish cooked on the bone were full of flavor, and very tender. The Chicken Wings were excellent. I'd try all the dishes again, except the sliced potato one. This place has some good, cheap eats, Asian style. We'll be back, much more to try.

It's an annual tradition during Christmas Day that our family goes out to the Asian grocery store and shop for what we're going to eat that night. When I was growing up, there wasn't a Li Ming's or a Super G supermarket that provided the supreme variety of Asian goods. I remember the good/only days of Dynasty asian mart. I'm happy this store popped up now! Located right off of Gate City Blvd, this place is really hard to miss. The parking lot is gigantic so you'll always find a place to park... and I mean always. The supermarket itself is gigantic with a large produce section that is about the same size as the packaged goods section. In the back of the store is where you'll find the fish and meats. There's an additional pop up stand that has the catch of the days (usually crab and mollusks). If you want the live fish, you can't miss the tanks that houses everything ranging from tilapia to grouper. Note: The beers are right next to the tanks ;). On the other side of the store, you'll find the household items (bowls, cleaners, pans/woks, etc etc). The variety of knick knacks can burn at least an hour there. My family always spends at least 2 hours wandering the entire store searching for deals or reminiscing what each ingredient can make. *rolls eyes* Lastly, There's a bakery/restaurant near the front that offers a good lunchbox deal. $5.95 for rice and 3 sides. AND the sides are given out generously. If you're in the mood for roast duck, they have it here too! My mom refused to get it because of her bad experience with the roast duck at an affiliate in Durham. I would definitely recommend checking this place out if you live in the area or stopping by. But don't blame me if 2 hours fly by real fast.

We go here in a regular basis mostly for the fish and the international fruits and veggies. I recommend getting there early on the weekend for the best fish choices... Oh yeah...byou pick your own fish...which we love!! We also go for the nice selection of rice. If you spend at least $100 you get a free lunch from thei little Asian restaurant they have

For a big market, I was a bit disappointed. Employees aren't very helpful, though a few were really nice. Fish tanks in the seafood area was really dirty. That's what's interesting about this market. Some areas were spotless clean, others were not. Some items (like condiments) has an awesome variety, then other areas were quite lacking (produce for instance, and lacking in quality not variety). Prices a bit on the higher side. One interesting thing was that I was surprised there were only 4(??) (I may be wrong) check out lines. For such a huge place that's interesting. BUT when I was there they weren't busy at all so I guess it works for them.

My husband and I were in downtown Greensboro on a Saturday afternoon and decided to hit this place up for lunch. When they called the place The Bodega, they really mean it's a bodega. It's decked out like a small convenience store from the second you walk in. We ordered our food at the cash register to eat at one of their tables outside. The cashier brought our sandwiches out about 10 minutes after ordering. I ordered the Turkey Caesar. It had turkey, shaved parmesan, marinated cherry tomato, house-made Caesar dressing, onion, and romaine lettuce in an 8" sandwich roll. It was a little pricey at $15, but it was worth the splurge. The dressing and parmesan cheese were unbelievable! Since this is in downtown Greensboro, there is no dedicated parking lot but we easily found street parking nearby. The place has a few tables outside for customers to enjoy their food. If you're looking for a good sandwich, I highly recommend checking The Bodega out.
