Remember what life was like before places had IG walls for selfies, and drinks and food that might look pretty, but costs a fortune, and is never as good as it should be? Well, Libertine has none of that. It is a dark place that lets you have intimate conversations, or you can chat up the people next to you. There is a steak night (Tuesday nights) where you can get a fantastic steak dinner on the cheap. There is trivia, and all sorts of fun things if you are into that stuff. Very attentive, but not the " in your face " kind. Gave my friend and I solid recommendations - THANK YOU ! The brunch items we ordered and shared were spot on: the house made jalapeño biscuit with chicken and gravy as well as the turkey, Brie, green apple Sammie. Delish! Solid happy hour with wide selection of drinks and apps! We got a round of the seasonal sangria ($6) and some chips and chicken poppers (~$10). The sangria tasted more soda based than usual drinks- regardless it was great! Service was pretty slow, slightly stand off ish and hard to flag down. The inside was dim and super cozy/clean! The nachos and other fries are $12; their menu is extensive in general. I liked the sauce! The tamales itself.. tasted a bit off. I don't know if it was a frozen flavor or what. But it didn't taste that 'fresh'. Drinks are reasonably priced imo.. $10-12. Some are $14+. They currently have a $20 steak and drink special for $20. It got busier as the night went on. The Tuesday $20 burger deal is tooooooo die for. You can choose between fries or mashed potatoes, clearly I got fries. You get a "signature" drink with it, I wasn't a big fan of the cosmo, but I'll try a different drink next time I go! Met up with a few friends when we were in town for an event. The drinks were good and strong. The bartenders were attentive for the most part, however, it did take some time to get their attention on a busy night. Not their problem, more like they may need another for help. My friends and I came here for cobb salads... except the Libertine Bar calls them "Crispy Chicken Salads." Regardless of the name, this place makes a FABULOUS salad! Delicious crispy chicken, butter lettuce, tomatoes, bacon, hard boiled egg and avocado. We all chose ranch dressing and it was PERFECT. I came HUNGRY and devoured the whole thing.... So why the 4 stars? The salad was too small. It was SO GOOD but I could have eaten two of them. My stomach was still growing after I finished it. So had the salad been bigger, totally 5/5 all day long. Price was $13 which was reasonable but would have paid a higher price for a bigger one. (Perhaps I just had a huge appetite and for most normal people this would have been an appropriate size. Haha) Restaurant is super cute. Plenty of seating both indoors and out. Waitress was friendly. Walked in and immediately got a seat and came during dinner time, around 7 PM during on a Thursday. they also do trivia on Thursday's which was actually pretty fun. I didn't try Any foods, but the drink I had was good. Yum, love Libertine Bar. Recently saw 4 Day Weekend in Lower Greenville and wanted a quick drink and bite beforehand, and this was the perfect spot. We've been here a few times before and it never disappoints. Haven't been yet for brunch or lunch, only the evenings on the weekend when it's super crowded... There isn't a ton of seating, so be patient! Last visit we just got a few "bar bites." The muenster cheese fries which are covered in plenty of cheese + jalapenos + bacon + onion, delicious. And I'm a big fan of their cheese board. Pay the extra $3 for 5 cheeses (instead of 3) with housemade mustard, fresh fruit, honey, jam, delicious salty cornichons, crackers, & a baguette. You can also add salami and prosciutto! Jon eats all the gluten and I pretty much demolish the rest. It's a fantastic cheese board and the perfect amount of food for 2. Really generous portions for cheese! Libertine has a wonderful cocktail menu, a great selection of beer, and a decent wine list. I usually stick with a glass of red or a simple salty dog, and Jon will get something a little more exciting, like their Campfire Old Fashioned or Black Manhattan. The illustrious Libertine has fallen in service. I have advocated for this bar time and time again, had brunches and group meet ups there, but my loyalty is forever lost by one really terrible bartender experience the night of 7/12. I was trying to get drinks for my girlfriend and me. We had just shown up - in other words, stone cold sober - at 12am. The bartender- thin man with a red beard and backwards baseball cap - would not serve us for 30 minutes. I stood at the bar as he would point to anybody but me. Time and time again others would come up after me only to get served before me. Five times he looked me straight in the eye, made like he was going to point at me, and then pointed to someone else who had just walked up. It seemed very deliberate. I have kept playing in my mind what I could have possibly done wrong. I never spoke a word to him. Was it that I was a guy and not a cute SMU girl? Was it that I was holding my girlfriend's purse and maybe looked gay? Who knows. I'm no stranger to waiting in a crowded bar for a drink, clamoring for my turn at the bartop. This wasn't that. The food, service, and drinks are usually exceptional at Libertine. This is just a reminder that in an area where there are many choices of late night drinks, one rotten experience can lose a long time customer for good. read more

If you ever find yourself in Dallas, please visit La Libertine. I did not tried any of their exquisite food, but I did check out their beer selection . They have a pretty extensive beer menu which includes craft beers on tap and in bottles, and they are constantly rotating the selection. They also have some interesting cocktails and wine. Our bartender was nice and knowledgeable. I wasn't sure what to order, but luckily he made a few suggestions, and I loved all his recommendations. Btw, I love the artwork. Very strong drinks and mediocre food. Came to brunch on a Saturday morning to celebrate a friends birthday. I arrived early and helped myself to a high top table close to the entrance. I ordered a kir royal to sip on while I waited. My server was friendly and attentive. The brunch menu is limited so I pieced together side items to make up my meal I ordered sides of the pancake, egg, and sweet potato fries. The pancake was not bad slightly dry though was not a fan of all the cinnamon and powdered sugar dusted around the plate. The eggs were over cooked the sweet potato's while good were slightly too thin. The food was not the best the $13 carafes of champagne bubblies however got my friends and I right where we needed to be. They do not skimp on the champagne which is greatly appreciated. Came with a few friends last night when the wait down the street was an hour plus. Glad they had a few vegan options on the menu too! I had the fried seitan tacos with elotes (yes, all vegan!). The tacos were pretty stuffed so I ended up just eating them with a fork. The fried seitan was great and I'd be curious what they were like if I'd had the grilled seitan option instead. Whatever the aioli type sauce is, I could've used a little more but I just didn't bother to ask. Everyone else seemed to like what they got as well. One of his favorite employees, Beto, lied on me and said I got drunk and left my shift early and Simon blindly took his side and never once tried to hear my side of the story. Food was so great I came here twice in three days...and mind you, I hardly go out! that says a lot!!!! FIrst night I came here was on a Wednesday. I was here with other yelpers...we had a going party for Frances. I had the creamy jalapeno soup and a mixure of haystack fries with sweet potato fries. For the second night I had a smoke salmon board. I didnt care much for the cheese because it had no flavor but I guess it shouldnt have any flavor so the smoke salmon could stand out. Salmon was smokey like it should! Delicious! We shared an ordered of portobello mushrooms and it was good, too. Taste better dipped with the ranch they give you. They give you three, not the thick or too creamy one. But the one in the middle...yumm!!! I love that they offer Woodchuck because I can't drink beer. Cider is my go to if I don't want cocktails. I came here for the very first time on NYE as part of our bar hopping that night. Didn't stay long enough to experience everything they have to offer. Finally came back here the second time, had more drinks, tried some of the food, and sat at their kick-ass patio! Both times the service was superb! Our waitresses were very friendly, helpful, and such eye candy. Unless you order a beer, be prepared. They definitely don't skimp out on the alcohol. Had dinner at HG Spply just couple hours before coming, I decided to just go for a small snack. They have sweet potato fries, of course I couldn't say no to that. Their fries are thinly cut, about the size of fries from Steak & Shake, perfect texture of crispiness but still able to taste the softness of sweet potato. My only small dislike is it's a lil too salty for my taste, but besides that, I would order it again. My friend got the portobello fries. Seems like a pretty decent portion. I just don't think it's anything too special. The food didn't impress me much, but I'll definitely try other items on the menu next time. Their patio seating is what has won me over. We showed up around 11pm on Saturday night, but didn't have any problem grabbing a table outside, luckily. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the fact that their tables and chairs are elevated!!! It was fun to sit there, enjoy the breeze, swinging my legs, people watching. Each table is long enough to fit 3-4 people on each side, would be perfect to come with friends. And if you're not into the heat, or the outdoor much, majority of their indoor seats are fancy leather couches/chairs too ;). I find myself coming back to Lower Greenville time and time again. And while i don't like that some of older spots I used to love are gone, I do still love the area and frequent it often. Since 2006, one of my haunts has been The Libertine (located in what I believe was the old Corner Tap, with improvements). I love the way this place is laid out. Patio seating, inside booth seating and a nice long wooden bar to perch at. The music seems to always be just the right volume and the food is generally good. (Avoid the brisket chili, its hugely hit or miss, and that means mostly miss) The reason for my review after all this time is this. I was in last week sometime and was waited on a bartender I hadn't had before, a guy named Joe. Joe was attentive, on the stick and knew his stuff. No matter what i ordered, Joe knew right how to make it, and it was perfect every time. He was chatty without seeming fake or overbearing, and seemed to sense when my glass was empty, refilling it with impeccable timing. Ive come here for years, but judging by my experience the last couple times with Joe, I will absolutely be back. If you happen to be nearby, swing in. You womt be disappointed. read more

I ordered the Sazerac (rye whiskey, absinthe, peychaud's bitters, cubed sugar and lemon) which was not for me. I guess I should have figured it would taste like straight up black licorice. Bleh... I loved their Sidecar (Cognac, Contreau and lemon) as it was light, and fruity without it being too sweet. For food I ordered the Seitan tacos. I had no idea what seitan tacos were, but was hoping it was code for pork. It was sadly not. Seitan is wheat gluten, which they fry up and serve with some delicious creamy sriracha sauce. Although it wasn't meat, it was very tasty. Man, I really regret not ordering the hog wings, which looked freakin awesome. The sweet potato fries were great too. Although we had a table of 15-20 people, the servers were able to get our food and drinks out in a timely manner which impressed me. read more
