I've had Liberty Dental plan since 3-15-15 and I am very happy with what I have. I have the CA50 plan and it costs 253.00 per year, and so far that amount has not changed since I started. I have not had any problems with this insurance, and for what I pay have been more than happy with the benefits and I have had deep cleanings, bridge in the front, and reg. cleanings, and a few caps. I've saved thousands of dollars by having this insurance. I know because I've had to pay the price without dental insurance. I have no idea what these people are talking about when they say they signed up covered California, I do not have covered California insurance. Without a doubt I wouldn't have this insurance for 4 years if I was not satisfied. This company is not a "scam" like some want you to believe. read more

My experience with Liberty Dental Plan has been extremely frustrating. Beyond basic teeth cleanings and simple fillings, there seems to be very little this insurance will actually cover. Whenever my dentist recommends necessary procedures, the claims are constantly denied even after going through the appeal process. Recently, I needed to see an endodontist for a root canal. When I contacted customer service and asked for a list of specialists who accept this insurance, I found that the majority either did not actually take the plan or were not realistically available. It's incredibly frustrating to pay for insurance and then struggle to find providers who accept it. At this point, the coverage feels almost useless beyond routine maintenance. Other than covering your regular cleanings, they deny all other dental work. For one son who had an underbite and a crossbite, they denied his orthodontic work after repeat attempts because they said it was just cosmetic. We paid out of pocket. It turned out that his teeth were so crowded that a permanent tooth would not descend without treatment. My other son has impacted wisdom teeth. Also completely denied. If you have a choice, don't choose them because you won't have any major work covered. read more

I was trying to help a senior out who got changed from his ppo to managed care type liberty dental via alignment thus losing coverage with his dentist and having a large bill to pay amounting to half his social security. I did get the information finally to figure out what happened They want him to "go online" to find a new dentist or call and get dentists names and are unwilling to send him a list of providers. The phone people seem to be working at home so have a pretty "cushy" work day with no commuting, they could help a senior out and get some written materials for him as he is more comfortable with that. After dealing with them last night and this morning, they gave me a long list of dentists that don't accept my HMO insurance. After calling the first three I realized their list is useless. One place I looked up online is permanently closed. After speaking with one of their reps for the 5th time during this time frame, I said just give me one dentist that accepts my plan. She put me on hold and said Western Dental. I googled and yelped Western Dental, and the ratings are very poor for every one of their locations. No higher than 2.4 stars. In order to reach a Liberty Dental rep, I had to through Anthem because I couldn't reach them through the number provided. Their number is an automated system, I couldn't anywhere with it, and it seems like there's no way to speak to a live person. GOOD NEWS! With NO help from Anthem or Liberty Dental, the thought came to me call Bright Now Dental. They take HMO and their ratings are in the 4s. read more

This dental plan is horrible and should not be able to provide or recommend dental offices to go to., They recommended a dental office Blue Diamond in Inglewood to provide services. I went to the dental office after being told what my insurance would cover. However I paid $190.00 dollars which I should not have been charged according to my dental plan. I have requested a refund and to date I have not received it in spite of the services being paid by Anthem. In addition all medical/dental services when billed the patient should receive an explanation of benefits for the services provided. To date nothing. In addition the office where the services were provided had the absolute customer service. I have tried to reach out to both the office as well as Liberty Dental plan and so far I have receive nothing, i will continue to pursue my refund so that the next customer will not be forced to pay for something that was covered by the plan which is billing fraud. After working with them for 6 weeks to find a dental provider than does sedation dentistry due to my high level of anxiety going to the dentist brought on by dental trauma and oral rape, they advised that sedation dentistry is not covered by them. My health is greatly impacted by the condition of my teeth, so basically they have given me a death sentence since I cannot afford to pay for the procedures out of pocket. This company does not care one bit about their clients and should be avoided at all costs. I did go to one of their dentists who after doing an exam and a treatment plan refused to treat me because of my level of anxiety. I'm stuck with this insurance for another 10 months, and will have to change my medical insurance to get rid of this horrible dental insurance. Liberty Dental is terrible. Mot only are they non-responsive to patient concerns, I had to go the their dentist three (3) times for a simple maintenance teeth cleaning but the dentist isn't interested in doing teeth cleaning they wanted to sell me deep gum cleanings, crowns and other treatments I didn't need, that would cost hundreds of dollars. I got a second opinion from a real dentist, not a Liberty dentist, who confirmed none of the services recommended by the Liberty Dentist were needed and were just to gouge me. All totaled I have now been to six (6) of the Liberty plan dentists all with a similar experience. Their service is sloppy, unprofessional and their dental offices are often not clean. The plan management reflects their adversarial attitude toward their patients by outright twisting the facts of the complaint in order to reject complaints. As a Medicare Broker, I see Liberty Dental as the weak link in the Medicare plan I have. I can't recommend this plan to anyone unless they want to get bad service and poor treatment. read more

Omg! I upgraded my hmo to pro for emergency work on the 4th of August '23. The man said for $124. I could upgrade. He gave me a # and said it's good to go till my card comes, but no info of benefits or coverage was sent, now its August 8. I call Liberty and these ladies, 2 of them don't know shit. My experience started with my current Liberty online profile not appearing -- filed a grievance about it, got no call back. I called again after 6 months and this time IT dept. was able to fix the problem. Also was told by phone reps. 2 different methods of doing a covered provider search -- both were wrong. Finally got a list sent to me and it has very few providers, all with poor ratings in online reviews. And the list is not updated, even when members point out a dentist is no longer at an office or accepting Liberty dental insurance it is not updated. Summary: faulty online portal, poor, inconsistent phone customer service and poor choice of providers. Note to Yelp: 1 star = not good, please consider adding the choice of 0 stars = bad, where there is actual potential harm to the customer. read more

Liberty Dental is part of my Alignment Medicare HMO plan. I found a dentist through the plan, who did xrays and said I needed a referral to an endodontist as he thinks I need a root canal. I awaited Alignment's notification of referral, and called the endodontist on the referral. The office had never heard of the endodontist. I verified the office's address and phone number as the same on the referral, but they said I'd need a new referral to someone on their staff. I then looked up the referral dentist and found he is in San DIego--I am in Fresno. I called Alignment and asked for a new referral. They never acknowledged their error or apologized. They then advised me that the Liberty plan has an 80% copay for specialists! I told them I was looking at my benefits book and it says root canal copays are in the $280-$350 range. They said no, that's only if a general practice dentist does the root canal. I asked them to refer me to a general practice dentist who does root canals. They are unable to do this--they just emailed me the same list of dentists they have online, which at this point I don't trust to be accurate. They said it would be up to me to call all the general practice dentists on the list to see if they do root canals--in other words, good luck with that. I told her I would wait until next year when I will enroll in a real dental plan. read more

Liberty Dental have caused me a huge amount of unnecessary trouble and compromised my dental care as a result of their confused and confusing service. I spent two entire mornings and even more hours searching for a new dentist because my Liberty insurance plan told me they wouldn't cover care with my current dentist. Liberty had sent me a list of a dozen alternative dentists covered under their plan, and each office I called told me they did not use the Liberty plan I had. I was then told by Liberty I had been given the wrong list, and was given a new one. I had the same results when I called several more dental offices, except for two of them. The last office I called told me I actually had two dental plans under my insurance. This indicated that the dental office I'd called informed me about the Liberty plan better than Liberty themselves. That I had two plans was news to me, and I was confused. Once again I called Liberty, and they confirmed that I did have two plans under Liberty; one of which would cover certain dentists, and one of which wouldn't. I had no way of knowing this before being told by this third representative I spoke with. (I have one, and only one, insurance ID number, so why would I think I had two plans?) After all this, I came to be told that my original dentist did accept *one* of my plans under Liberty. The good news was that I did not have to find a new dentist after all. What wasn't good is that leading up to this, all I had to go on was the 'refusal of coverage' letter I had received from my insurance company. This had led me to canceling my appointment for a filling with my original dentist, spending entire confused mornings and more hours on the phone with Liberty, and searching for a new dentist. All this only to find that all of that effort was for nothing, because in the end, I was told that in fact, my insurance does cover my original dentist. Apparently the staff at Liberty did not know enough to inform me of this in the first place. As a result of all this, my appointment for a filling was delayed by two months. I also hold Anthem Blue Cross responsible, since it is through them that I get Liberty Dental (chosen for me through their plan). It is Anthem who sent me the letter refusing coverage for the filling. The letter mentioned nothing about my having a second plan under Liberty. How was I to know? This is what happens when medical care is for profit, and too many entities are involved. Not good! read more

Liberty Dental Plan is horrific! I am still attempting to get them to pay for the tooth removal surgery. They will not pay for a claim because they I went to "one of their Approved Dentists" who has two office locations - One office for the consultation and the other for the actual surgery (since I wanted the surgery asap). How stupid do they think I am? I know that office location does not matter because the dentist operates under one tax id and is credentialed at all of his locations. I filed a suit with the BBB and after trying to hide behind "Due to privacy regulations, and to protect the confidentiality of our members, LIBERTY cannot disclose any details of the complaint, nor confirm membership of the complainant. LIBERTY Dental Plan will investigate the matter and take any appropriate action" which is a bowl of CRAP!!! I also blame Anthem Insurance since they keep partnering with them in spite of all of the Better Business Bureau complaints and negative reviews. Liberty Dental does not recognize that if you have a problem with a tooth the dentist must EXAMINE the tooth to see what is wrong, Liberty counted that as 1 of my 2 yearly exams and when I had my 2nd cleaning they denied it saying that i had 3 this year???? Never had this problem with any other Dental insurance before. I do not recommend. I will be asking BCBS to get a different carrier. read more

BEWARE!!!! Find another company unless you like pain. They have this terrible policy to remove a tooth the procedure must be approved. The problem is they first say the procedure must be sent to them and that takes a few days to be in their system. Their system must be from 1980 or older today they should have it in seconds. Then when they get the paperwork from their network dentist it take 48 hours to approve the extraction. If you are in pain each day is torture but they do not care. Liberty dental plan is a plan that pays dentist a very low fee for you to belong to. So if a dentist gets many people from liberty it can make descent money. But when you try to get services that are covered by the plan all of the sudden the dentist do not want to do the work, and tell you they need to get an authorization. Although, this insurance is part of my medical plan, it really sucks! I had an emergency procedure and the dentist not only overcharged me, they refused to bill my insurance or send me a detailed statement. I filed a grievance twice with Liberty. The first time the agent took my information, but forgot to complete the process. The second time I got a confirmation number, and after a month I got a letter that they were siding with the dentist that overcharged, but are unable to send me an EOB. It will never happen, but the Liberty customer service department needs some ethical training to avoid the legal issues I am forced to deal with now. read more

They refused to refund my money after "investigating it" and the quality management department not returning calls for a month, sent me to a dentist who wrote me up for $1200 of services and sent a high schooler who worked the front desk in to explain the charges as the dentist went on a lunch break in the middle of my appointment, and didn't even get my teeth cleaned (would have taken me 4 weeks to pick a different dentist through their insurance and when I arrived the dentist didn't even want to accept the insurance, which took an hour to get that straightened out), sent my information to the wrong address which cancelled my services, and in response to my claim, have lied about our recorded conversations in order to create "evidence" out of thin air, which a supervisors just admitted was the wrong wording. A horrific useless scam. Not only does it seem like they're running this "insurance" racket out of someone's house with 2 customer service people, but they're also extremely underhanded & untrustworthy. Every person I ever talked to on the phone was some complete jerk who could care less about my questions or issues. Also their web portal is a disaster that feels like it is from 1998. The only benefit of their service was the lower cost in comparison to some other offers, but otherwise it is NOT WORTH IT. Advice: RUN don't walk away from this joke of a dental insurance company. I have been dealing with dental Insurance for over 23 yrs and liberty is the worst of the worst. The reps who answer the phones don't understand how the plans work, they fax incorrect fee schedules, send false authorizations and give verbal confirmation of assignments when it isn't so! In addition to the bad customer service the reimbursement for services is pennies on the dollar. No wonder so many Dentist upsale/upcharge patients for services! read more

If I could give negative 1000 stars for this insurance provider I would. No wonder this account is "unclaimed" on yelp. Please read further of my experience, but DO NOT choose this insurance provider, save yourself the hassle!!!! This is the 2nd year we have used them and we are still experiencing the same issues and highly regret to be stuck with them for the remainder of the year!!! Every month, we get a letter in the mail that we missed a payment (even though we are on auto pay and our credit card is all up to date). We call every month and they take payment over the phone, BUT this month they decided to terminate coverage so our letter said we no longer have coverage. Today, I called explaining the previous issues to the fault of their system. I got the run around and transferred to covered CA, who CANNOT HELP ME. So I call Liberty back and chew them out for wasting my time and come to find out, thanks to all my recorded calls in their system, that it is indeed their fault and system flaws *duh*. So they tried to cancel my plan and send me to covered CA instead of acknowledging they messed up. So when I called back the representative I spoke to just admitted she's worked there for 14 YEARS and acknowledged when they take payment over the phone they note it as a web payment so if something goes wrong, they can blame the customer. But you can't go against recorded calls right? So when they went back to see my recording of calls and the web payments matched up with exact times and days, hmm suspicious isn't it??? She admitted that this happens very frequently and they are aware of how flawed their system is and how it screws over their customers and costs them THOUSANDS of dollars and they DONT GIVE A ****. She looked very stupid arguing with me for 20 mins and then putting me on hold and coming back with a different approach and reinstating my coverage. Do not give them your money, move along and find another provider, even if it's a little more expensive you will be saving yourself in the long run. read more
