I thought it was just me, but reading the reviews below, it really does sound as though there is some sort of scam going on. I also signed up through Covered Cali, went online and made my first payment as well as signed up for autopay, and then a few months later when I was ready to go make a dentist appointment, I realized I hadn't been sent a single thing - not a card, not a letter, not even confirmation of my auto payment. So I looked it up and my coverage was canceled due to non-payment, without any communication whatsoever. Customer service told me to contact Covered California; Covered California told me to contact them. Sounds like they do this to a lot of people and I would not trust them at all. read more

I signed up through Covered CA website. The website auto enrolled me before I'd even made a payment. I realized after signing up I hadn't shopped around. The site wouldn't allow me to use the "shop around" function if I was already enrolled, so I dis-enrolled to see the alternate plans. Turns out there were none, just Liberty. So I signed back up. The links through Covered CA to goto the linked coverage sites ie. Liberty, don't work. The text and email for help numbers ARE answered but if you ask something they do not know, they stop answering you ie for your membership number. I was never mailed a membership packet. Naturally they dont care that sitting on hold for 50 minutes m-f 8:30 to 5p, is the only way to reach them. If you go to the website directly you'll need a member number which you cannot get without calling in to Liberty. Where I work there is no cell reception and my lunch is only half hour. Liberty is closed on the weekends and after 5p. So reaching them has been at least four lunch breaks, numerous attempts at calls and messages and eventually over an hour in the bosses office on an extended lunch, to get no where. Eventually I reached a CSR who said there where two accounts one closed and one open, but pending "term", meaning its being cancelled, but she had no idea why. Assuming we'd get it all worked out I asked her to help me locate a dentist near me. She said they had no obligation to look outside of the network until the drive was 40 or more miles and that my drive was not that far to the nearest provider. It is actually 62 miles from my home to the nearest provider, she google and found I was correct. I explained I hadn't been able to reach anyone for weeks and there is not provider in my area for 60+ miles, but had still been charged and felt a refund for the last month would be fare. She transferred me to a very rule, cold, uncaring woman who told me I'd been covered since the beginning of the month even through I didn't pay until the 9th and that I COULD have gotten care. When I asked how with no membership number or provider, she became flustered and hung up 888-703-6999 x5172 Jessica. BBB has been unable to reach them as well. Great business practices from a company contracted to Cover California, making millions but cant refund $50 for services they never provided. read more

I was a customer for a full year and always paid on time with automatic billing. The following year, after renewing through my state's marketplace, I schedule a dentist appointment, showed up, and was told by the receptionist that I was not insured. That was news to me. Called Liberty Dental, come to find out that they cancelled my automatic billing and then dropped my coverage for non-payment. Nothing they could do about it, apparently. They told me that they sent me three notices, but this is also the company that sent me a notice of cancellation in the middle of last year and then told me (when I called) that it was an accident. They're not exactly on top of things. Call wait times can be obscenely long. It's almost like not having insurance! Spend the extra three dollars a month and go with someone else if you can. read more

Unfortunately we are trying to get into a dentist, but can't get pre authorization. We've had 3 appointments with different dentists, but they all cancel the day before due to not getting authorized from Liberty. We even got the list of those covered from Liberty. I spoke to Lyna customer service representative who helped me with my bill claim. The dental office took unnecessary imaging of my teeth, without "good faith" of explaining that these extra imaging will not be covered by my insurance. Lyna explained that it was wrong of them to not go over charges of the procedure and said that both the insurance will not pay and that me as a client will not have to pay. So thank you Lyna for outstanding customer service. It is your right as a patient that the doctor's office explain out of pocket cost prior to you getting a procedure done. read more

The discounts you get thru Liberty Dental Plan are not as advertised. I called a local dentist who accepts Liberty Dental Plan, to try to glean exactly what actual discounts were available thru Liberty Dental Plan. The receptionist convinced me that the rates would be right around what was advertised, so I signed up, and after my initial checkup, I was quoted rates substantially higher. It's a nice little arrangement they have, because both the dentist and Liberty Dental Plan can blame each other for the discrepancy. read more

Terrible! In Early March 2018 I went to my dentist for an annual checkup and when I arrived they told me my dental insurance had been cancelled. I was shocked and immediately called Covered CA. Covered CA told me I was enrolled for dental coverage and told me to call Liberty. On 3/8/18 I called Liberty and after a lengthy investigation I found out Liberty's system had kicked me off the auto billing at the end of the year. They told me they would notify the billing department, reset my account and they will call me to tell me I can start making payments again. They never called. On 3/13/18 I called them back, explained the whole process to the agent. I am disgusted with how I was just spoke to and how they handle they business. Due to a glitch in THEIR system I never received any paperwork or bills after renewing my plan. I originally had paid via auto pay and without being told, this ended. I was terminated due to non payment (not one bill, letter, or phone call received stating it was even late). Now I'm left with a HUGE bill from my dentist. The person I spoke to said "wow that sucks" and proceeded to say they could do nothing although it was their fault (admittedly)!!!!! If I could give this insurance company less than one star I would. I signed up for automatic bill pay. I have screen shots that show my account is current and actively enrolled in bill pay. The said I was denied coverage and would have to apply again in October. So they expect me to go without dental coverage for a couple months because their system failed. I went to the manager, she said she would look into it and call me back within 48 hours. I received a call 4 days later, have voicemail to prove it, tell me to return their call. I return their call and they say my request to be reinstated has been denied. I should not have to be reinstated because I did my part, their system failed. This is unacceptable. read more

Worst insurance service I've ever used. They cancelled my policy when their automatic payment service stopped collecting my payments (they still can't tell me why) and every time I've called I've sat on hold for longer than half an hour before someone came on the line. The last time I called, after 30+ minutes someone came on the line, took my information, said they needed to check something and they put me back in the phone queue so that 30+ minutes later a new person came on and asked what I needed help with. They are a pain to deal with at every step of the way and I strongly urge you to go elsewhere with your business. read more

The worst dental insurance provided I've ever experienced. I've been to several oral surgeons recommending that I have 3-4 of my wisdom teeth removed because they're all impacted, so the dentist sent the info over to Liberty Dental. After hearing back from Liberty Dental, only 2 of the 4 wisdom teeth were approved and only 30 minutes of sedation for a procedure that takes an hour to complete. The estimated out of pocket expenses are nearly $1,800 with insurance from Liberty Dental. I spoke with the dental assistant and she informed me that even extracting 2 of my wisdom teeth takes longer than 30 minutes, so the fact that Liberty Dental only approved a 30 minute sedation clearly shows that Liberty Dental does not care about their members at all. Overall, if you're in the market for a dental insurance provided, look elsewhere because Liberty Dental is rip off and should be ashamed of even calling themselves a dental insurance provider. read more

So I have a "dental emergency" due to a fractured, protruding jawbone and a broken tooth PLUS a "medical urgency" of massive oral infections. Two Oral Surgeons, an MD and an OD agree on the emergency. Liberty DENIED coverage as unnecessary. A half inch of jawbone is sticking out!!! I filed a complaint with the state insurance commissioner requesting that they revoke Liberty's right to sell insurance in my state. read more

The plans offered by Liberty appear to be pretty much a scam deal. I signed up for a plan offered through Covered California, and then found out that they only authorize my using two providers in the Bay Area, where I live: Gentle Dental and Western Dental. Both of these are very, very low quality corporate dental chains, and none of the 30 dentists within 5 miles of me have more than a 3-star rating (many have only 1 or 2 stars)! Liberty Dental Plan of CA misrepresents itself on it's own web site. For example, Universal Care Dental Group is a contracted provider with Liberty Dental Plan of Calif. Located at 14600 Sherman Way, Suite #100, VAN NUYS , CA 914052290, DBA "Universal Care Dental". On the Liberty Dental Plan of CA web site, there are Sixteen (16) Dentists listed at that location. When I asked Ray, the office manager how many Dentists they have at any one time, he replied "Normally Two". I chose this location, because it appeared to have multiple resources available, due to it's (appeared) staff size, including a possibility that surely, one of these dentists could perform the extractions. Therefore, a Liberty member can not trust the accuracy of the web site, when looking for a Dentist. The Dentist that saw me was not even listed as a Liberty provider, and yet they treated me. read more

Would give them no stars if I could. I want to start by saying that the reps I dealt with were very nice. But...I have Liberty Dental through my Medicare Alignment insurance, so it doesn't cost me anything. I have had Delta but changed to Alignment which has Liberty for their Dental Plan. Delta was fine. Liberty, simply horrid. In January 2019 I tried to find out what Dentists were in my Liberty Plan. I was sent a list of dentists in my area using Liberty. I looked up reviews for each one and they were mostly in the 1 or 2 star range. Also, Western Dental uses them and I know how terrible WD is. I finally found a local Dentist with good reviews covered by Liberty. I called and made an appt. They called me back to find out what my dental insurance was. They said they had had trouble with payments with Liberty and were not sure they'd get paid and if they didn't I would need to pay. I called Liberty twice, to make sure. They said, yes, I was covered. My co-pay was $0 for one regular exam/year, and 2 cleanings/year. The two times I called they also said that this particular dentist was definitely in the program. I went to my appt, had exam and a cleaning. No problems. In April I receive a call from the Dentist. Liberty had not paid, so I needed to pay. I called Liberty, I was told that the dentist should have been paid, as I was covered and the Dentist was listed in their group. The Dentist would receive payment in a week. They did not receive payment. I called Alignment (which except for their having Liberty as their Dental plan, seems to be a good addition to Medicare). Alignment's rep made a conference call with me to Liberty. We both spoke to a rep from Liberty who gave us startling info: Liberty doesn't pay the dentist for routine exams, or regular cleanings, even though I was repeatedly told there was no co-pay. The dentist gets paid only for additional work. That explains why Western Dental uses them (as they are always adding on additional, mostly unneeded, dental work). I have healthy gums and teeth and rarely need any work. Any dentist seeing me would not get paid. This is insurance? I registered a grievance with Alignment about Liberty. Maybe they will change to Delta. I know I will leave Alignment next Dec if they don't. I want Dentist's to be paid, and not need to do further, unnecessary dental work in order to get paid. The dental plan which this company offers as (PPO Dental Coverage) is intentionally designed to cheat members and denying claims. This company refused to pay the difference between white and Mercury fillings. Liberty Dental Insurance covers only the Mercury Filling and are not willing to pay the difference. I purchased this plan from Anthem Blue Cross PPO, (No wonder). Most of the other dental insurance accept the difference. read more

Liberty Dental is a fraud and Aspire HMO should use a different dental insurance if they want to keep their patients. I called both Aspire and Liberty to find out about the extended benefits package because I knew I needed some dental work beyond the preventative dental covered in my Aspire policy. I was told twice by Aspire reps and once by Liberty that the 1000 dental max on extended benefits package was in addition to my dental cleanings. Today I received a bill from my dentist for my teeth cleaning that had been rejected by Liberty because I had "maxed out" my 1000. I called and was informed that what I was told on the phone was incorrect.I was lied to so I would buy the extended benefits policy. Aspire HMO should be ashamed of themselves. I told both Aspire and Liberty to get their recorded phone messages and then get in touch with me. I am tried of medical sales reps lying! Oddly LAST year I did not have extended benefits and when I got my second cleaning, which is included in my Aspire Insurance, I was told that I had maxed out my dental. No way. I had to file a complaint on Liberty and they finally paid the bill. This lying to patients has to stop. Aspire HMO needs to find a better dental insurance or stop offering it. read more
