I've been a customer for two years, and would highly recommend this place. The facility is spotless and well-lit. The security is thorough (in addition to coded access, gates, an impressive number of security cameras -- all working -- and a constant employee presence, each interior unit in the area where we are renting has a mesh ceiling and there is an extensive sprinkler system). One of the women in the office can be a bit perfunctory but the staff as a whole has been responsive, helpful, friendly (if not downright gregarious), and very professional. Pricing is very fair. Location is great. We have always felt that our things are in good hands. Yes, the waters of New York Harbor are very close, and yes, we all learned in October 2012 that that can be extremely problematic. But many storage facilities all over the region are located near water (just one example: look up Manhattan MiniStorage's downtown locations). In this case, when the weather is good, it is actually an asset -- the view of the Harbor is as close to idyllic as any view of New York Harbor is going to get, and that makes for a great place to sit outside and eat lunch or take a break halfway through a long day of sorting stuff. We rent an interior unit on the second floor of the annex building and were not in any way affected by Sandy. It sounds from the reviews like those who were, to at least some extent, did not take appropriate precautions. Liberty Storage is not responsible for the weather, how you store your things inside your unit, and/or whether or not you have flood insurance (a good idea wherever you store stuff). The bit that is up to them -- maintaining a clean, safe, well-lit, temperature-controlled, accessible and reasonably-priced storage space in a convenient location with good customer service -- they do very well. read more

I have been a customer on and off for about 10 years. I currently am not renting a unit at this facility, however I would not hesitate to use them, again, should the need arise. Are there problems here ... yes. But what business doesn't have them. I have used or visited at least 5 other storage facilities in Hudson County and out of those 5 I would only use 1, and I would do it begrudgingly, If I could not get a unit at Liberty. Liberty is THE cleanest of all I have seen. They have several employees at their 2 sites that constantly maintain order and cleanliness. I have seen their 1 staff member, Florio I believe his name is, give, GIVE FREE OF CHARGE, locks to people that did not bring one. They offer a truck with a driver for new move-ins. They will pick you up and drop you off at the Liberty Park Light Rail Station. The entire facility is under constant video monitoring ensuring your belongings are safe. As far as the storm goes ... I lost a vehicle that was parked at their remote location. I know of 3 others that either lost or had severe damage to their vehicles at this remote location. This was a freak storm. Downtown Jersey City had water flowing as far west as the Medical Center, and that is at least a mile from the river. I feel bad that people lost their belongings and property, but you were not alone. Thousands lost everything. You either use Liberty Storage or you don't. If you want a comparably priced facility ( a little more or less depending on which company you check with), with clean, fresh smelling units than you will use Liberty. If you want to be disappointed use someone else. read more

Hi! I have had a storage unit at Liberty Self Storage for the past 2 years. During hurricane Sandy I lost a few things in my storage unit, but I also lost things at my house, my parents house, and even at my place of work. Liberty Storage did not cause hurricane Sandy, and I understand this. What they did do was to make sure that I was helped and comforted during this disastrous time when so many other people lost everything. After the storm I was assisted with my move to another clean unit in the facility, I was protected from toxic storm water by being asked to wait to go into my unit so that my health would not be compromised, I was given secondary options as to what to do with my things in case I wanted to move out, and to top it off a discount on my fees for being a loyal customer. Unfortunately I lost many things but it could have been worst. Now that the unforeseen storm damage is gone the storage facility is back to being super clean, super friendly, and as accommodating as they have always been. Thanks guys! read more

I have had a storage unit at this facility for the past several years and find that this facility goes above and beyond the normal practices for a successful business. They offer a free move in service to get your possessions to their facility safely and will pick you up at the Liberty State Park Light Rail Station if you have no mode of transportation in getting to their facility, also free of charge. The facility itself is always kept clean, has good, bright lighting and one feels safe walking around as there is always someone manning the warehouse to offer assistance in anything you might need. The office staff is also very accommodating and friendly and easy to work with in making payments changing or transferring your unit to a different size either up or down or helping in any situation that may arise. I would definitely recommend Liberty Self Storage to anyone who has storage needs, whether it being a unit to store items or a place to store a motor vehicle or boat. read more

Unfortunately, Hurricane Sandy was a devastating blow to so many. I have been doing business with this company for approximately five (5) years. In that period of time many storms have come on gone and have never had a drop of water in my unit (ground unit). The owner, I believe his name is John has always treated me with repect and have always been available. During "Sandy" I sustained no damage to my property due to some minor preparations of my own.
