A genuine, certified and fully accredited Italian American man said this was the best Italian in LA. I believed him. While I may not the best person to judge Italian foods, Lido's Pizza was pretty spot on. For me, I don't mind heavy creamy sauces, or cheese so oily it's like a lake has formed on your food. Nope, it's all good with me. I'll empty an entire jar of parmesan cheese on just about anything and I'll eat ever last spec. With pizza I'm a bit more fickle. I can tell the difference between a $5 Little Caesar's and a pizza from John's on Bleecker St. And I've all but given up on trying to find great pizza in California. We ordered a medium spicy pizza with sausage and olives and I shared some of the woman's sampler platter that Brian and I pressured her into getting. I had a sample of Nicholas's sausage (heheh) and it was really good! If I make it back to Lido's, I'm getting pasta with a sausage for sure. Judy had some nice creamy clam pasta that was pretty damn good, looked like it had about two dozen clam shells on it. My meatball was great, but I think the ones I had at Bay Cities the week before were a tad better. 10 years later and I still love your Pasta! They make their own! I used to order from here a few times a month and go in once a month, but now that I'm on the Westside it is not so easy for me to frequent. But I still get it a couple of times of year! I would give this spot a 2.5 stars if possible. The best thing about the restaurant is the service. Although, when we first entered, we were completely ignored for a bit before someone came to seat us. Once seated, we did have a lovely waitress. We had a medium sized cheese pizza with onions, green peppers and pepperoni. We also had a small caesar salad. The salad was what anyone would expect at a restaurant. It was fresh which is always a good sign. The pizza was loaded with cheese but completely lacked in the pepperoni department. In the end, it didn't taste too great and it was so heavy it upset the tummy a bit. It looks like they serve bread and oil to each table, but we never received ours so I can't really rate the quality of bread. I wouldn't return to this place. read more

We just move in this area and had to find a good pizza/past joint. We tried it out and it was amazing. The pasta with meat sauce was amazing. We were happy about our new pasta place. We went back for a nice dinner and I order the same thing. I was so disappointed. We were rushed to order and our waiter walked away and we were not finished ordering. I asked my husband "Do you fell rushed" He said yes. I said we didn't get a chance to order cheese bread. When the waiter brought our food. I told him I order meat Sause. He said this is the meat sauce... There was no meat! The waiter said it grounded in the Sause. He must of though I was stupid! The last time it was loaded in meat Sause. Italian food in L.A. has redeemed itself somewhat. After eating several disappointing meals at various area Italian restaurants, I proclaimed L.A. to be devoid of any good Italian. This was until we met friends at Lido last Sunday. Damn it's good stuff. Just wish it was closer to home. After reading Nicholas' glowing review of Lido, I knew we could trust this place to be A++. I even made belly room by eating a salad Saturday night in preparation for the carb-laden, big portions meal I was expecting. I was not let down. Eli and I split a Medium pizza (get it spicy. they use cayenne pepper) which we couldn't finish!! Judy ordered the linguini with white clam sauce which was excellent. You could tell the pasta was handmade and had just the right texture. I also tried some of Yuko's sampler platter which sooo much that even with her, Eli and me eating some of it she still had to get a doggy bag. I've griped before about restaurants serving crappy cold bread, but Lido's sourdough bread was fresh and appeared homemade. The place was nearly empty when we arrived for Sunday lunch but filled up while we were there. Service was attentive and just right. Can't wait to go back. We were craving pizza so we checked out this place while we were in the area. Had a very nice cozy atmosphere of a neighborhood restaurant and the staff was very friendly. We order a large pizza with thick crust topped with hatch and jalapeño hot peppers. The toppings were fresh and had just the right amount of spice. The crust had a nice crunch to it but I wish it were slightly chewier in the middle. The sauce was decent and the cheese was ample. Overall, quite enjoyable seeing as we finished the whole pie. I finally had an opportunity to give this place a try. Came here straight from work and had a little bit of trouble finding parking as I didn't realize they had a back parking lot that's a lot bigger then the front. There's probably about 5-8 spots up front. But I was able to find street parking. Walked in and the restaurant was super busy with patrons still waiting for an open table. I ordered a medium pizza with sausage and mushrooms and linguine with clams white sauce. Total came out to about $35 or so. While waiting for the food, I decided to go outside to watch how the pizza was being made. I couldn't believe how much cheese they were piling onto the pizza. I did notice one thing though. They add the sauce, then the topping and lastly the cheese on top. Most places would add the toppings after the cheese. Not sure why they would do this as I would assume the cheese would trap the water from the toppings, which would make the pizza soggy. After about 10-15 minutes, my food was ready. I noticed that the white box they put the pizza in is very flimsy and cheaply made. The hot pizza in such a flimsy box was a recipe for disaster. When I was handed the food, the employee put my pasta on top of the pizza box. I didn't really think twice about it since I figured there was a plastic spacer that was holding up the top of the box. I saw that being put in when I was at the window. When I got home, I opened up the box and you guessed it, no spacer and half of the cheese was stuck to the top. To make matters worse, I had some of the linguine with clam sauce and the pasta was very soggy. I was so heartbroken as I was excited by all of the positive reviews. So I decided to call the restaurant to file a complaint. Just so you know, I've never filed a complaint for take out orders. I spoke to the manager and he explained to me that only on their large pizzas do the put the spacers on. But nonetheless, he was more than happy to redo my order and ready for pickup in 15 minutes. I have to say that this deserves 5 stars or even 6 stars if that was available. There was no fuss or anything and the manager apologized. I wasn't expecting him to be so generous. After going back to pick up the food, I opened the pizza box at home and noticed there was a spacer and the pasta and clam sauce was separated. The pasta was still on the over cooked side, but not as soggy as previously. Both items were tasty but I don't think I would go back there. Maybe for eat in, but definitely not for pickup. read more

They said they could do it so I went over to pick it up. When I walked in to pick up my order I realized I had left my wallet at home. I apologized and said I could run home really quickly but then realized I had my credit card number on my cc app so they were kind enough to just use that and believe it was me. My dad initially recommended this restaurant and swore that they served some for the best pizza in the Valley and let me tell you he was not mistaken. The pizza came out fresh out of the oven and the cheese literally melted off the crust (which might be a problem for some people, but let's be honest it's not a big one...at least for me). The pizza here is absolutely nothing special. The toppings are definitely the best part -- fresh toppings, good sausage. But the crust is tasteless and soggy, and the tomato sauce also lacks flavor and is runny. I love that this place is literally 5 mins from my house! This place is a jewel. The outside may not be inviting but the food will definitely have you coming back. The decor inside will have you feeling like you might be meeting with the Don in the back of the room with all there red leather booths, but you will meet the nicest and friendliest staff. If you can believe it, my mom does not like pizza, but this is the only place she truly craves it from. A large "The works" pizza will set you back close to $24 dollars but it is so worth it. I've had the fettucini alfredo and the lasagna here. Both are so YUMMY! Their portions are pretty big too. It's share worthy. It's awesome that they make their own pasta and sauces from scratch. The pizza is good, the salads are good, their subs are real good and the service is warm, friendly and good. Their pasta is OK but not memorable. In a nondescript corner shopping area (too small to be even called a strip mall) there's an old school Italian restaurant making excellent pasta and pizza. I've heard the pizza is pretty good here, which I'll try on my next visit This time I went with their homemade egg pasta shells with meat sauce. It was nicely cooked with a hearty flavorful sauce with bits of onion and a hint of garlic. It came with a small loaf of Italian bread and some Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. The individual order is good for those with a big appetite or can easily feed two people. I can't imagine how big the large serving is. You have a choice of 5 pastas al uovo (spaghetti, springs, shells, rigatoni and whole wheat rigatoni) and 2 sauces (meat sauce or a meatless tomato and fresh basil). Most places have pretty bland sauce to appeal to the masses, but I was pleasantly surprised that this had a rich tomato flavor and was spiced well. Went to lunch and decided to add an order to go. When I got the bill I was charged the dinner price not the lunch price. I was never told that my order was too late for the lunch price since that was the only menu I saw. I spent over $100 for lunch and the manager refused to adjust the to go charge to the lunch price. Well after 28 years I'm going to find another Italian restaurant that treats customers with fairness and appreciation for patronizing their establishment. My coworker recommend this place and it was pretty good. I'm pretty hard to please with pizza and this place passes. It's a straight up hole in the wall. It looks pretty shitty from the outside but as you may or may not have experienced, 'looks can be deceiving." The inside is dim light even with the van nuys sun burning an egg on the pavement outside. It can serve as a casual date spot if that it what you are looking for. Mainly booths, they have a few tables available. The pizza was good I liked it simple with one or two toppings. We also tried the deluxe but I found it to be a lot heavier than a simple lighter pizza with one or two toppings. The deluxe was very overpowering in flavor and texture. A lot of the toppings slid off as you'd pick it up. Again for some people they want that I perfer my pizza together and I found that one toppings pizza was perfer and light. A group of 5 did not finish two large pizzas. We had a few slices left over. I would come again on a date. read more
