Adorable neighborhood gem! The food is outstanding! The service is excellent. The runners clean and clear tables quickly. Plenty of parking out front and a little lot in back.

Ask for the dessert menu, but be sure you are sitting down and have a hankie handy. You may weep.

Volare! That is, fly, don't run, to try this amazing hidden gem of an Italian restaurant. I had no idea it existed, but when we were coming back from another spot in Sherman Oaks we passed it. I love Italian food so I looked it up here on Yelp and was impressed with what I saw and made a reservation right away. Oliva serves lunch every day from 11 to 2, which is perfect for us. It took us only 20 minutes to get there and we found free parking right out in front on Van Nuys Boulevard. Easy! Once inside I was bowled over by how pretty it is and how like the trattorias I frequented all over Italy. I can only imagine how it glitters and sparkles at night. It is a large space with multiple seating areas, a glorious bar, and an old fashioned pizza oven, so we could watch them make pizza and their home made bread, which they bring to the table gratis, with their own bespoke olive oil and vinegars from Italy. Our carer, Ricardo, spoke perfect Italian and I did my best to reply in kind. Overhead was all the best Italian musical hits that are familiar and popular here, which I appreciate. I like the atmosphere of a restaurant to reflect and enhance the cuisine. Everything got better and better from the minute we arrived. We got to pick our own seats, as this is the time of day when people are usually in between meals, especially on weekend days. We chose to sit in a cheerful spot, bathed in daylight through the spotless windows. Everything is pristine and immaculate -- even the ceilings (see my pictures). There are so many vegetarian options for me on the menu that I know I will have to return again and again to try them all. Every single thing we ordered was superb -- really, the best of its kind. Ricardo was the perfect host. He seemed to appear as if by magic when we even thought about asking for something and was so polite, that we realized how rare this kind of professional courtesy is anywhere in America these days. In Europe, restaurant service is a trained and valued profession and Ricardo embodied that approach when taking care of us. I had to contain my joy and almost squealed when I saw our two desserts (see my photos). First class everything: top quality linens, flatware, glasses, stone floor, hand painted murals, lights twinkling elegantly all over the main rooms and a wine selection at the bar that looked brilliantly curated. Some of the best coffee I have had in ages (Danesi), too. There is no doubt in my mind that Oliva Trattoria can rival the best of the West Side famous Italian places that we all make the obligatory trek to at some point. As far as I am concerned, when I want upscale perfection in a trattoria, Oliva will be my go-to.

We came here for my birthday dinner! I am paralyzed in a power wheelchair but the staff was fantastic. Mike the owner and everyone was Incredible. I love the ambience. I love the location and the vibe. I got busy socializing and I did not take pictures of the food at the table. I apologize, but everything was truly epic! I started off with a glass of water which was refreshing and great! I had 2 dirty martinis with stuffed blue cheese, olives, which they didn't have but they did it for me and they were fantastic and so are the drinks! For appetizers, we ordered the calamari which was fantastic, the Procuitta with burrata & melon was excellent. The meatballs were delicious just absolutely epic! The oven was not working, so we're not able to unfortunately try any of the pizza. The Ghnocchi, fettuccine fungi, lamb. Mashed potatoes. I had a few things that were off the menu. I don't know. I forgot what they were but they were delicious also! For dessert, cappuccino crème brûlée was epic so was the tiramisu and the chocolate cake. They actually have an incredible dessert menu! Stop scrolling! Go to Oliva Trattoria!

Great food, great staff and great ambiance. What else can we ask. We stopped by there today for a quick bite. We told the waiter that we were in a hurry and only had a hour. He was very understanding & helpful. We ordered quickly & got out of there in time! Would definitely go back there again. And next time we plan on taking our time and enjoying everything longer :).

I visited Olivia Trattoria for the first time this week. Went on a Monday for a birthday dinner. Being that it was a Monday it was not very busy which ended up being a great thing. On a Monday you can tell that they get regulars and you can hear some of the conversations with the staff and the tables and it just makes you feel like this is a great Italian restaurant. The staff was absolutely amazing. So friendly and so accommodating. If you need any adjustment to a dish they were more than welcome to trying to make it possible. I started with an interesting and tasty broccoli soup. I envisioned broccoli cheddar soup. Got mashed Broccoli. I enjoyed it and it was a pleasant surprise. My main course was a special requested spicy Italian sausage pasta with sun dried tomatoes. It was flavorful and delicious. We also ordered a vegan aglio olio that I didn't try but was told it was very good. The absolute star dish that did try and wished I had ordered was the branzino filet. I should have known it would be good when the waiter smiled when it was ordered. It was the lightest most flavorful piece of fish I've had in a while. Served on an eggplant puree. Simply fantastic. The waiter comped a very hearty piece of cheesecake for the birthday celebration. I look forward to coming back for more! Thanks for making it feel like a home cooked meal.

What a super wonderful meal! From the moment we walked in, we felt like we were stepping into a tree Italian Trattoria. Such a cozy warm family vibe. We had a reservation and were greeted and seated immediately. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and I struggled to figure out what I wanted to eat. The great thing is we were a large party and my family loves to share so we're able to taste several dishes. The pizzas look delicious and they certainly were. My favorite was definitely the carbonara, linguine vongole, spaghetti mare and the lasagna. We asked for a half lasagna kids portion and and wish we would've ordered the full thing since it tasted so good. They also have a Cacio de Pepe in a cheese wheel. I can't wait to go back and try it. I can't say enough about this place and can't wait to go back. They do have a small parking lot in the back and street parking as well

Top notch service! We were treated like VIPs. We all ordered from the off menu specials. The ambiance was nice and we were off to the corner next to the bar so we had a lot of privacy and it was easy to talk and hear each other's conversations. We started off with a calamari salad and it was interesting. We usually get the calamari fritti as an appetizer and this time we decided to have it in a salad. It was delicious! The Ossobuco dish was AMAZING! It was so tender and delicious! I would recommend this dish! The Olivia's Famous Italian Brisket Special was also very tender and delicious so we would definitely order this again as well. The carbonara was what I ordered and it was yummy but honestly I've had better, especially just coming back from Italy I was hoping for the same kind of level of pasta but it was just ok. I loved the crispy pancetta, but the pasta definitely needed a little more flavor to it. The disappointing dish was the cacio e pepe. It was a favorite dish of one person in our party and she didn't enjoy it at all. Not enough flavor, it was bland and it came out looking so plain not even with a garnish to make it look appetizing. She does not recommend this dish. All in all, we would come back again but we would definitely get the meat dishes and not the pasta. We also ordered a bottle of Chianti wine (because that was my fav in Italy) and it was superb!!

Spaghetti bolognese with paramesan cheese on top

Great local spot in Sherman Oaks. The food here is flavorful and the service is very good. I ordered the spaghetti bolognese with a lemon drop cocktail. Will definitely be coming back to try their other dishes. Food comes with freshly made bread with their in house olive oil & balsamic vinegar. We finished off our meal with their delicious creme brulee which is 10/10. Overall an amazing Italian spot with a great ambiance & friendly staff.

We tried an authentic Italian restaurant today and were blown away. The fresh bread alone told us this place was special. I had the fettuccine funghi , and I don't even like mushrooms, but I would absolutely eat them again here. The pasta was perfect and full of flavor. My partner got the spaghetti with meatballs, and those meatballs were next-level. They literally melt in your mouth , you have to try them. Great service, great food, great atmosphere. We can't wait to come back. 10/10!

What a crazy number of days, weeks, months we've spent without enjoying the good food and friendly service at this comfy, homestyle Italian eatery with a full bar and even fuller menu of properly prepared, seriously tasty dishes. The room is cheery and bright, while remaining welcoming. Not a sign of anything corporate here -- just homespun hospitality and good vibes from start to finish. Our server, Chris, was attentive and most accommodating, explaining various options to us newbies, and making my wife an offer she couldn't refuse: she was trying to decide between Chicken Parm and Cacio E Pepe, so Chris offered to swap the plain pasta side of the parm with Cacio E Pepe, giving her both dishes in one. Sold. You pretty much never see that kind of thing happening nowadays. And it was a great thing, to be sure. The generous portion of chicken was lightly fried and topped with an equally light tomato sauce that complimented the chicken and cheese rather than overwhelming them. The flavor and texture were spot on, and the robust Cacio E Pepe made for a very nice pairing. Me? I ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara, once Chris assured me it was made the traditional way rather than doused in cream as so many places now do. And indeed, the spaghetti was textbook al dente, dressed with with egg yolk and cheese that combined into a richly satisfying sauce. The pancetta brought a touch of salt and plenty of smoky accents, making this about as top notch a version of this dish as you're likely to find in the Valley. Cannoli were sweet and rich; a wonderful palate cleanser at the end of our meal. A Pepperoni Pizza taken to go for our kids at home looked absolutely first rate. Did I mention my martini? Properly made, cool and crisp, and only $15. Quite the bargain for this side of town. Yes, Trattoria Del Sole came as a surprise, but it should be no surprise to anyone reading this that we'll be making this our regular haunt from now-on. I think you should, too.

We parked in one of their 3 parking spots in the back and entered through the rear entrance. We were greeted by Aya who mentioned they were having some plumbing problems so we needed to sit in the front section of the restaurant. The place is pretty small and compact, with about 10 tables. It's family owned and been around for 25 years. The prices are pretty affordable for the portion sizes. Not much ambiance or decorations, but there was some nice Italian music playing overhead and some Christmas decorations that are apparently hung up year-round. Both Thomas and Aya waited on us and they were both pleasant and kind with nice smiles. Thomas quickly brought out some waters along with their complimentary focaccia that came with olive tapenade. The bread tasted old and stale and wasn't warm, but I liked the tapenade. Surprisingly, we were never asked if we wanted anything else to drink and also never got refills on our waters until I had to ask for one. I ordered the Italian salad with dressing on the side and I asked if the carrots that came in the salad were cooked or raw, since I don't like raw carrots. Aya happily suggested that they can cook me some carrots separately and bring them on the side, which is what they did. Even though the carrots were not really cooked that well, the gesture was still greatly appreciated. Other than that, all the ingredients were very fresh and the dressing was LIGHT, just how I like it. For our entrèes, I got the Pollo Della Cassa which came with chicken breast and mushrooms baked with mozzarella cheese, served on pasta with Alfredo sauce. ($24.95), with an add-on of shrimp (+$3.00 for 3 shrimps). I also asked for light sauce, not too soupy, and that's exactly how it was prepared. The food was piping hot, very fresh, and delicious. My son ordered the Pollo Limone ($24.95) that came with grilled chicken breast with lemon sauce on mushroom risotto. He was not the biggest fan of his food but still ate all of it. He also asked if he could get a side of veggies and they gladly brought out a medley of sautéed broccoli, zucchini, and carrots. We were not charged for the side of veggies and also the salad, which was very generous of them. To end the meal, you get a small complimentary square of Tiramisu which is a nice little treat. The customer service is truly the best part of this restaurant and you can tell that there is a lot of love involved here. They really care about their guests and want you to feel happy and satisfied. Due to some minor ticks here and there, I think I am going to stick with 4 stars overall. The restaurant was clean but just kind of unpleasant. You could also smell the bleach right when you walk in and sometimes the smell would waft through the air. It was also really hot in the restaurant and I don't think the A/C was working. They have one bathroom for each gender and they were very clean. I also asked for some change to leave cash for the tip, but Thomas told me they didn't have any cash in the restaurant. How can that be? Thank you Spumoni, Aya, Thomas, and the chefs. Will I return? Maybe, maybe not.

We ordered the pizza, spaghetti, Margherita pizza, Brussels sprouts salad, artichoke salad, and the minestrone soup, which was honestly incredible. We also tried the artichoke and truffle soup -- absolutely delicious! The steaks were fantastic, and the branzino was filleted for us at the table and was simply perfect. The food, service, atmosphere, and attention to detail were all outstanding. We had such a wonderful time as a family, and we will definitely be coming back again and again. Highly recommended!

Maria's has always been a reliable place to get nicely-made, traditional Italian-American food…read morestraight from the playbook. They've got locations all over the city, and the Sherman Oaks venue has been a fixture in the neighborhood for decades, where not much has changed through the years. The space is roomy, comfortable, clean and well-kept, and the staff is uniformly friendly. I've also catered parties from here, and they really have their business well-organized. With Maria's you know what you're gonna get. Except for tonight, when the Eggplant Parmigiana I was served turned out to be lasagna. Surprise! When I mentioned it to the waiter, he said, "I knew it. It looked like lasagna, but I served it anyway to see if you noticed." Huh? Okay. I don't dislike lasagna, and I didn't want to wait for a replacement, so I kept it, and it was very tasty. Rich, tomatoey sauce with a mix of beef and pork (plus a touch of cream) surrounded the slice of lasagna, its layers of pasta and ricotta blanketed with melted mozzarella that managed to be both gooey and crusty brown at the same time. I liked it quite a bit, though I'd have preferred to have the eggplant instead. My wife ordered the "summer lite" portion of Chicken Piccata, which had a tasty sauce and generous sides of pasta and veggies, while my daughter ordered grilled chicken with broccoli -- also nicely seasoned, and accompanied by charred, very fresh broccoli seasoned with olive oil and garlic. My son and his girlfriend are both vegan, so they shared a vegan pizza and spaghetti marinara (also vegan). Kudos to Maria's for having a good number of vegan options available, and being so accommodating to their whole audience. While Maria's may not be the very best Italian restaurant in town, they're aiming for something else. As a family-friendly, reasonably-priced neighborhood stalwart they're continuing to score big points after a very long time. Good for them.
