Been a member at different locations for about 15 years. Was on hold since COVID started and gladly paid the monthly hold fees for the last year. Now to start using the club again they are giving the shakedown to new customers and people on hold for $100 EACH to use the pool. Who joins and doesn't use the pool facilities? What's next? Water fountain fee? Toilet seat rentals? Really my 3 year old needs to pay a $100 fee? Just grow a spine and charge what you need to make money in the membership fee and don't act like a used car lot with these bogus fees. This place rocks. Facility is super nice. People are very friendly. Yea it's not cheap, and yea they want to sell you a lot of personal training, but it's a gym what do you expect. Lol They have like 87 yoga classes a week. My wife can go any time. She loves it. My favorite part is the day care. We drop the 2 year old off and she is in LOVE with Donya, one of the many super sweet baby trainers. Get rid of the munchkin, wife does yoga, and I get to lift heavy things in peace and quiet. read more

I love this gym! I've been a member for a month and I'm impressed with the classes, equipment, and the cleanliness. Liz in the cafe is soooooo nice! The food and service in there is the best out of all of the Lifetimes in this area. Brandi was my on boarding PT and she is so good! I love the dance classes by Danny and Tiffani. I haven't tried the spa, but it must be good because it's always booked. One of the spas has been out of service since I joined. The big sore spot for me is the outdoor pool. I agreed to pay $250 for the two people on my account to have access. I went one day only to realize customer service did not add it. The staff let me use a guest pass or something so I could use it for the day. Thank goodness for their mistake!!! Because the additional fee for the outdoor pool is not worth it unless you have kids or want to be around them. The pool area is overrun by kids. Also, when I went, I wanted the entire area and could not find one lounge chair. Not one! Two minutes after entering, I left. Wasting my time and the pass. read more

This review is about Lifetime's membership dues policies. We are original members from prior to Lifetime's opening in the DC area in 2000. We joined the Centreville VA club at the opening of the club in March 2000 and maintained our relationship with that club until the Reston club opened. The facilities are great for the most part and other reviews have commented on the classes and facility. This review is a warning to prospective members to be prepared for what I think are outrageous, unfair and exploitive price increases. Recently these price increases have been more frequent and annually applied. Last year it was 10%, this year 16%. This is a harsh way to treat original members/customers. I have complained and the managers just exclaim that the price increases are directed by "corporate". When I complained recently, I was told that despite 23 years of being told that we had the best rate due to being original members, "corporate" wants to equalize membership dues. I get it...that is an understandable desire, but not at the expense of relationships with long standing members who have paid thousands and thousands of dollars (in our case for over 23 years). So buyer beware...the price you pay now is likely a FRACTION of what you will be paying several years from now. read more

Ugh....here we go. Another 'yelp bash' which is unfortunately necessary. So we have been members here for 2 year and tried to cancel because they suddenly up the membership chargers and one specific incident. Cancelling your membership here is worse than buying a house. They have all our information on file (phone, email etc.) yet they require you to be physically present OR send in a registered mail to cancel, and even then, you get hit with a 30 day notice. DO NOT consider using their day care or Summer Camp. While I was in the locker room prepping for a workout the kids were brought in to change for swim. Adult men were walking around naked even after I told them that there were kids in the room. I immediately reported this to management. By allowing this it creates the perfect environment for predators. Who in their right mind will allow that! We so done here! It is very expensive (and getting worse), management is aggressive, they using a failing business model to force members to stay OR drag the process out as long as possible AND they endanger our children. Good riddance we say. read more

I joined here because of the pool, I love how they have both indoor and outdoor lap pools. The staff is always super nice from the front desk to cafe to the lifeguards. Locker rooms are always clean and there is always someone running around wiping down countertops and restocking towels. My ONLY complaint is the kids. Maybe I just haven't belonged to a gym that has a daycare type camp, but the kids both in the camps and just those brought by their parents, are WILD. Kids are always taking up the entire basketball court, pool, and even the showers. THERE IS A FAMILY LOCKER ROOM THAT IS THERE FOR FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN. UTILIZE IT. read more

Been coming here for around a month now, love the pool and gym but the only time possible to go is 8pm or later, forget about going after work as there will be zero machines or laps open. This place even has the audacity to schedule swim classes between 430-9pm monday thru Friday, thereby reserving 6/9 lanes the price to pay is already high and they don't tell you it has the same level of exclusivity as a state run Rec center. Very disappointing for people who actually want to use their membership. Decrease the patrons or decrease the price, I can get a similar workout at planet fitness considering none of the machines that stand out are ever open. read more

Wow! This place has it all. I visited on New Years Eve with a guest pass and I was impressed. This place has everything and then some. Of course it is more of a athletic club than a gym. So you are getting what you pay for. They had contraptions and machines there I have never seen in my life. So I was more than happy to give them a shot. The premier gym of the area...with the equivalent price tag. I've done the $10 gyms, the mid-range Gold's Gym places, and this boutique of a gym. I have a family now, and I can't imagine taking them anywhere but here. The level of service and cleanliness separate LifeTime. What keeps them alone at the top is what no one else has- a children's program that can't be beat. They hire certified people. As an example, my kid's Montessori teacher used to work here. The children's area has an entire program of its own, gymnastics area with instructors, jungle gym, arts and crafts studio, ~20 iMacs, separate play area for toddlers....very well thought-out. I mean, they hold quarterly Parents Night Out events on Saturday night so you can leave the kids to play while you enjoy dinner. Yes, LifeTime is huge. The locker rooms are cool and spacious. There are 3 pools and 2 jacuzzis. There are two full basketball courts. You see, in my opinion, it's easy to build more and more. It's very, very difficult to create a quality kids program that is head and shoulders above the competition. $221/month well spent...if I can get myself there, of course. read more

I had my son birthday over in lifetime Reston recently and I wanted to come write this, so you know NOT to have your KID'S birthdays there. I feel like the whole party instead of enjoying my time with my son, I was just trying to follow and hunt down the staff to come and help. There were no one to help you at the front door to help you carry stuff, there was no one to help people do their waivers. like most places the play time was just one hour but 15 minutes passed the Startime when kids are just wandering around, I had to look for the staff (and it is a big gym, and they were not in their office). When I found them, they act like they have all the time in the world saying we are coming soon to set up the bounce house which btw was so small while they told me it will as big as half of the gym. Lunch was supposed to be at 3 so again it is 3:20 I ask for the food, and they say we are trying to make it fresh, so i have 30 kids screaming pizza and they were so slow serving it to them. The most annoying part was I order $500 worth of salad, fruit and vegetable tray and sandwiches for adults (because of course they don't let you bring food from home), and they were supposed to bring when the kids were playing so adult could have them while hanging out. The food was served so late that no one got time to eat, and I ended up taking all the untouched food to fire station. Overall, horrible service. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! read more

This lifetime was average. When going into lifetime, you expect nothing but the best and I just did not feel that way here. Things to be worked on are cleanliness. The issue that this lifetime has is that the bathrooms are dirty and it feels gross. The weights are solid and the machines are quality. read more

I love this gym. I was able to try it on a free guest pass. The reason I am not joining is the fact I live and go to school in Vienna and Tyson corner area. Traffic makes it hard to get to. If I didn't have that to worry about it I would join in a heart beat. The showers are decent with free towels and personal hygiene products. This was nice so you don't have to lug all your crap to the gym except a change of clothes for later at a minimum. I tried their yoga classes here and it was decent. I wish the instructors would correct form but not sure if that is a lifetime policy or something that they can't read more

I have returned after two years away, I find the gym over crowded with very young members that have zero gym etiquette. Pool is now $150 per family member is a circus. If I can get there on none peak hours it's decent, otherwise not good and certainly for this price not worth it. Probably will be out of here once pool closes. read more

This is my first time here in this gym and it looks like a total spa. It has a salon in here to do massages, manicures, hair, a juice bar, and of course the gym with a pool, basketball, dry and wet sauna. This place also has all the work out equipment that is needed from weights, treadmills, elliptical and more. The place is pricey but you get all of this plus classes. They also have a kids club for lot of activities for your kids. If ever I live here I would get a membership here. read more

Fantastic gym. I'm not sure how this gym could be anything less than 5 star. It has everything: Pilates, yoga, free weights, machines, indoor/outdoor pools, group classes, amazing trainers, tons of cardio machines, etc. I love love love the Children's Area best- great caretakers and my kids have a blast. I never feel guilty about working out and leaving my kids there. Great camps - and birthday parties- for kids as well. Plus it introduces them to a lifestyle of healthy living and exercise. Did I mention the incredible indoor rock climbing? The only downside is the cost. These incredible facilities are not cheap. But for me and my family, this is our splurge and we love it. read more

This is the best gym perhaps in Fairfax County. You have two massive pools. A basketball court. A rock-climbing facility and state of the art equipment. Also I've never seen this place too crowded and the members seem overall classier then those at some other gyms. I get a cheaper rate through my company, so I hear people on the price thing. It's not cheap, but as the former manager of 24 HR fitness who cancelled my membership there said, "it's like a palace. I get it." And if you made this gym an $60/month gym it would be over crowded. read more

Hands down the best gym in the area. In the past I have been a member at other gyms or tried their free invites and they others just don't compare. The machines are up to date and top of the line, they have an abundance of classes, the indoor and outdoor pools are a plus, even tho it COVID and we can't use the steam, sauna, and steam room when we are allowed they are always in great condition. The gym is always clean and the staff is friendly. Also, during COVID season they take extensive measures to keep us all safe. I love it there!! read more

They decided to up the fees for members who use the pool, however the only time u can really use the indoor pool is early morning, which is otherwise overrun by kids swim classes, swim team, numerous aqua classes and traiathlete swim. As a member here for the past 4 years!!! I love love love this fitness facility. This location is my favorite!!! I love how clean this location is. I enjoy the outdoor pool during the summertime. They have an exceptional outdoor bar with delicious meals and snacks that the workers there would bring to you pool side. I also love the cafe inside the gym. They literally have everything that you will ever need before, during, and after your workouts. The classes here are great also and the options are limitless. Overall, I do NOT see myself going anywhere else. The monthly membership is a bit higher than other fitness facilities around the area however, it's so worth it. Don't waste your money to pay for a membership at the Reston "Onyx" club (should be "Oink") given the declining service. You can NEVER reach anyone in Management (most notability the GM) to voice a complaint. The poor lifeguard or cleaning staff seem to be the line of deflection. Routinely (3 times in 5 days) 2 spas are consistently "closed" and the men's room facility at 4:00AM not the cleanest. The poor guy coming in at 5AM is swamped cleaning up from the night prior. The quality of services and products has steadily declined. Amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, and other toiletries are now all substituted with generic products. The monthly charge for membership are akin to a cable bill. If you are not paying attention you will miss the monthly increases which are not to maintain current level of products and services. LA Fitness is opening a brand new facility at 2/3 thirds the cost. read more

I have been a member at Lifetime for more than a decade. I have regularly attended the class of a most competent instructor for many years. His class is always full. Yesterday we arrived at the class and found a non competent substitute. We were given no explanation only that our instructor will not return, and we all walked out. When we told the staff that this class is the main reason for our membership we were told that if we wanted to stop our membership to go ahead and do it. This is totally unprofessional especially for a club that is overpriced as lifetime is. No sense of how to treat clients or how to value staff that brings value to the business. read more

Very disappointed about customer service in this location! I had a membership for almost a year. The reasons why I cancelled the services was: All the time that I was attending in Lifetime Reston NONE call me to check if I need assistance with any fitness program. Neither when I went to the gym NONE of the staff approached to me or asked me if there is any question I have or anything. One time I forgot my shoes in the dress up room. Next couple days I asked to the front desk and the Clean lady about it and they said all the forgotten items was throw away. A few weeks later my jacket has been stoled from my locker. did complain it but No BODY return my call for ANY FOLLOW UP! And finally they want to me pay twice the registration costs. i attended as a guest a couple times and thought about trying a membership so see if it's a goof fit. it does get a little too busy after work on weekdays and the changing rooms were not that clean during peak hours, but I understand that can be hard to keep up. however, paying an additional 100 bucks for the outside pool when there's only a couple of weeks left in the summer season seems a little steep. The pool is also full of screaming children on weekends and sometimes you can barely get in the water. I tried to discuss membership options but they did not seem that interested in getting me as a member and didn't even provide accurate information matching the information on the website, so I definitely felt meh about joining after that. read more

This place makes me feel like I'm on vacation. I know its odd, a gym and vacation in the same sentence. Let me explain. Lifetime fitness in Reston has amazing pools, saunas, hot tubs and fitness classes. But the best part of this gym is the kids academy. For up to 3 hours a day they offer an indoor play area, sport skills training, gymnastics, ballet and ninja warrior classes...all included in the cost of membership. It's a place where we actually want to be and the staff is so polite (almost like a Disney resort). The food is good and the prices are fair. I have been member of Lifetime for more than 5 years. I consider their facility and equipments to be top notch before. Recently, there has been decline in maintaining equipments. For example, basketball rim has been shaky and crooked for almost 3 months, and no one have cared to fixed that. I even called them about a need to repair it, but with absence of GM, I left her a VM. I would have understand if it was an average gym, but when you charge one hundred dollar and serve subpar facility. That's not tolerable. Recently, there has been decline in the hospitality front desk who acts more like gym police than gym friendly front desk. Not sure it is because of the management change or something ? read more

I used to love Lifetime gyms. I am not so sure anymore. I am now looking for another gym (after being a LF member for over 10 years). I am a daily swimmer, but nowadays there is no pool to swim in that isn't having kids' swimming lessons or kids playing when I am at the gym. The pools are one of the main reasons I joined this gym. I work with kids for a living and I look forward to unwinding while swimming in a quiet environment after work. I don't see why this gym doesn't have a lap pool where there are no lessons during peak hours for us serious and experienced swimmers. I usually use the gym between 4:30-6:00 weekdays. read more

I took a big leap of faith when I decided to join Life Time before it even opened. The promise of the wonderful amenities, group activities, and beautiful large spaces convinced me that spending the exorbitant monthly price was worth it. I do love the facility. It is kept very neat, and other than lunk heads refusing to clean their machines and areas after they use it, it is pretty clean. I find myself in the minority of people who are actually concerned about any kind of cleanliness at this gym. The fitness classes are fun. Depending on the instructor, of course. I have taken Zumba, Vinyasa Yoga, Insanity, Cycling, C.R.T, and a few others that were forgettable. The gym also offers a couple more classes that cost yet even MORE money, which I refuse to even consider since the cost of the monthly membership is ridiculous to begin with. Life Time also offers personal training, but everything is at a cost, and a pretty high one at that. While signing up, I was told I would receive a bunch of cool freebies, (one of them included a health assessment) but while talking to other members, I found out only a small part of the assessment was included in the membership. They have a child center which I guess is good for parents, but I find it extremely annoying at times. Parents rarely watch their children in the hallway around the locker rooms and front desk area, and I have been ran into and tripped by them more times than I can count. I understand that childcare is great, but it doesn't mean you should let your little ones run all over the place unsupervised! Oh, and the screaming/crying can be unbearable. There is also a little "cafe" area that serves smoothies, salads, sandwiches, etc. The staff there is pretty nice, but there seems to be a lot of very young employees who don't know really how to serve a customer. Blankly staring at me while I'm explaining that I'm allergic to an ingredient in a product doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies. They also seem to up charge for EVERYTHING. Changing a fruit in a smoothie cost me $1.50 the other day, as well as changing the type of protein from vegan to whey. Pretty ridiculous, but then again I'm pretty ridiculous agreeing to pay $7.00 and up for a small smoothie. I recently downgraded my membership from Diamond to Onyx, only giving me a $30.00 relief, but I'll take whatever I can get. I don't plan on staying here for much longer, but I'm pretty much enjoying it while I'm here but I'm actively searching for a new gym home. I give the gym a solid 2.5 star rating for now. read more

Apparently this location and its GM condone bullying and will lie to parents to address their concerns. Horrible experience with kids' summer camp - physical violence, threats and bullying by staff member children. Son came home saying he was punched in the face, called names, threatened with death (10/11 year olds, so sure, but still not acceptable.) Brought this to the attention of Camp Director and General Manager. Received a great series of lies from the GM, Jorge Hernandez, about providing a safe, happy and secure environment for the kids being hugely important, bullying not tolerated, etc. "We'll remove the bully." We decided to send our son back to camp and give it a try - he was eager having been told the bully would not be there. Well, they did not remove the bully and the Camp Director had no idea what was discussed. Apparently the GM thought feeding us lies would work. Disgusted and angry at his behavior. Keeping our son away from there. Facility is nice (I particularly like the pools) just as long as you don't interact with the staff - their focus is on revenue and up selling, clearly not customer service. We've been members for a year, will see how much longer that lasts. read more

I've been going here for about 6 months (either 8 AM or 6 PM), so I think I have a pretty good feel for the place. PRICE: Monthly fees run high, but there's a lot of value for your money. The rates are non-negotiable (unlike almost every other gym chain around), but they do occasionally throw in a few extra Lifetime bucks to be exclusively spent on in-gym services. LAYOUT: It is the equivalent of a very well-financed Division 1 football team, which is to say huge with no expense spared. The cardio area alone is bigger than most gyms (sorry, Reston Golds), and the adjacent free weight and machine area are spacious without seeming cavernous. What I especially like is the wide open space between the cardio area and the machines--perfect of walking squats, suicides, or other space-greedy routines. CROWD: This gym is simply too big to ever become elbow-to-elbow crowded. (Actually, my concern is the opposite: the facility is too big for the location's client base, but I'm sure they have that figured out.) There really isn't a rush hour, but, predictably, 5-8 PM early in the workweek seems to be the busiest. Still, you're never tripping over anyone, and no one is uncomfortably compelled to ask to work in with you. Most folks are 30 year-old professionals with a close second being C-Suiters and their families. Speaking of which, the ground floor can become a bit of a zoo on special event nights (monthly?) with hoards of kids running around. Don't like kids? You may want to find another gym, but kids are strictly prohibited from the workout areas. EQUIPMENT: Brand new and high-end. You can't imagine a piece of equipment they don't have. No, seriously, imagine anything, and the staff will guide you to it. PARKING: Seemingly huge lot that fills up at peak hours. There's a lot around the side that no one seems to know about and that remains empty. The only time parking was an issue was during the snowstorms when piled up snow reduced parking lot capacity by ~25%. Large amount of hybrid-only spots that people take liberties with. STAFF: All very positive experiences, especially the on-site RDN. I did not have a personal trainer here (cost-prohibitive), but they seem to be very busy with mostly Soccer Mom clients. GROUP FITNESS: Spin instructors are motivating, especially the woman on Monday nights. The schedule favors Soccer Moms over working professionals a bit, with too few AM before-you-go-to-work classes. SPA: The one blemish on an otherwise glowing report: men's haircuts are not worth it here, period. You may very well get a "mall cut" for $60. Skip it. CANCELLING MEMBERSHIP: Very simple: you walk in, chat with the Manager for a minute, and then cancel. They prorate the last month, so no "gotchas" here. read more

I worked out here a few times, and thank God I was "grandfathered in" or whatever they call it and only pay $80 a month. Apparently there are poor saps out there that pay over $100 to work out here. The equipment is meh, typically broken down and takes forever to repair just like the one in Dulles and Centreville. Machinery really not new or impressive. A very average gym with a very high price, not befitting of what you get. Worst of all, this place charges $30 for a guest! I've spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on LifeTime over the past 4 years and their ass-backwards business model now decides to charge me for bringing a guest to the pool? Instantaneous 1 star. Sure there's nice staff, the café is nice, but if you're going to money-grub that bad, you deserve 1 star for being so stupid.
