Great small casual local cafe that is known for its sourdough goodies. They offer everything from…read morehouse-made bread, morning rolls (sweet and savory), cookies, to pizza and sandwiches. They make their own blend of house teas which are delicious. It's a small spot that has both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff are all very friendly. We ordered the mushroom toast, house breakfast sandwich and two dark chocolate glazed sourdough donuts (which are made to order). This was our second visit of the weekend and everything was delicious both times. Definitely adding to our Rolodex of places to return to and highly recommend!

So that means everyone loves Nana's. Which means that, on a very rainy weekend early afternoon, we ended up waiting quite a long time to order and then to get our food but ... I suppose it was worth it (this is high praise coming from someone who almost never believes waiting in a long line is actually worth it). My friend and I split the spicy Caesar kale salad as a starter. I cracked up when I saw "massaged kale" as one of the ingredients. But all jokes aside, this was one of the best kale salads with abundant dressing and, in lieu of croutons, breadcrumbs and cashew parmesan. It tasted pretty indulgent and rich but you can certainly fool yourself into thinking it's actually healthy. I got the tomato sandwich plus bacon (so a BLT without the L) and it was pretty good, though I do wish they cut the bread a little thinner so I could pick it up and eat it as a sandwich. As it were, I just used my knife and fork - certainly more civilized. The pizza was also not bad, though I wish there were some more of the toppings - heard it's leagues better than Mystic Pizza. There are a few tables inside but be prepared to wait. When it was peak rush hour, there were two lines inside, one for the bathroom and one to place an order. Even though they were so slammed, the staff couldn't be friendlier. Our waitress in particular came by often to see how we were doing. Parking lot also filled up. We parked in the Mystic train station and then walked over.

They were all good, i liked that the smores flavor had a char flavor to it. This was also the first time i encountered shoyu (soy sauce) ice cream. It was sweet and slightly savory. Not super salty or anything like i would have thought. Definitely worth picking up some ice cream to enjoy walking along the bridge/river if you're in the area.

All the small plates on the left side of the menu were half off! We immediately ordered drinks (the $10 happy hour cocktail - a blackberry bourbon smash for my husband, and a mocktail for me). We then ordered the shishito peppers, 2 of the pickled beet deviled eggs, and the roasted oysters with chili oil. They came out super fast, and it was delicious. The shishitos had that great char flavor along with a great dipping sauce. You can never go wrong with deviled eggs. Then we decided to order the fried oysters and the bread with corn butter. The fried oysters were the star of the small plates. Cooked so well. Freshly fried, you bite into it and it was juicy and delicious on the inside. Just so good. The bread and butter? Ugh, my dream butter and bread. Just so delicious. The butter was slightly sweet from the corn and had flakes of sea salt on tip, making it the perfect sweet and salty combo. We also got the salad (local produce!), and our waitress knew we were sharing ao she had the kitchen put it on 2 plates. Such a great touch. The salad was fantastic. After eating lobster rolls for a day, this was a much needed salad. It was refreshing, bright, and light! For our main entrees, we got the seared local squid and the strip steak. It was INCREDIBLE. Everything had so much flavor. The squid was cooked well, wasnt chewy. Just delicious. The crispy rice was the BEST THING I HAVE EVER EATEN. I wish we could order bowls of it. My husband finished it, couldn't get enough of it. The steak was fantastic as well. The potato with the bearnise sauce was so dreamy. The little onions on the steak, all the little touches were so well done. We knew we had to get dessert. We got a scoop of the black raspberry ice cream, a scoop of corn and blueberry swirl ice cream, and the lavender honey panna cotta. Guys. You 100% must get dessert. The corn blueberry ice cream was unreal. I dont know how you get all that flavor into ice cream. They dont skimp on the honey on the panna cotta. And it went so well with the more mild panna cotta. The black raspberry was a little icy because they froze whole blackberries in it, but at least you know they were trying to make sure you got blackberries in there. With happy hour, the bill wasn't too bad. This was hands down our favorite meal of our week long road trip. I can't wait to come back. I would 100% make a detour to eat here. (Reservations are a must unless you come here early enough to luck out at the bar. When we got there at around 5, the couple in front of us was told that the next available slot was at 9!). My favorite of what we ordered: the bucatini. All of their pastas come in either an appetizer or an entree portion. Now that I'm reading their online menu description online, I think they switched it up based on seasonal availability of ingredients. Ours was a mushroom cream based-sauced and it was heavenly - thick and luscious without being too one-note or overwhelming. The pasta itself was also cooked just slightly al dente, which is my preference. I went with the skirt steak. This was a highly out of character moment for me, as I almost always opt for the seafood option over the steak, particularly at a restaurant known for its seafood, but hear me out. My favorite part of a steakhouse is always the sides. The sides that came with the skirt steak included shishito peppers, a beautifully "feuille" style of potatoes (think the crepe layer cakes, only in deep fried potato form), and a seacoast mushroom (with the most beautiful precise knife cuts). Truly a feast for all of the senses. Also tried my friend's squid but I preferred the skirt steak. The crispy rice was good but extremely greasy. We were too full for dessert in the moment and then ended up getting ice cream from the place over the drawbridge.

Hidden gem in Mystic! The food was absolutely delicious and the man and woman working were so friendly and helpful. They welcomed us warmly and offered things that were not listed on the menu. I ordered a coffee with cream and she brought cream to the table with the coffee; which is good by the way. We also got waters. The Rueben is Very good here. Thin slices of very lean meat, good flavor profile with the vinegar in the sauerkraut and the creamy dressing. The bread held together perfectly and was grilled without all the grease. Both of which make it much easier to eat the sandwich and enjoy all the flavors and textures. Free on street parking was easy to find. One restroom in the kitchen only is not technically for public use. We will be stopping by again.
