PSA: Check in on yelp for free beignets (my favorite thing here, definitely worth the check in!) Lighthouse Cafe is a cute restaurant, great for a meal with your friends and family. Overall, the food was okay - nothing spectacular or anything that I would go out of my way to come to get. The cappucino was a lot sweeter than normal ones, likely due to the rock sugar on the side. I really enjoyed it because I like sweeter coffees, but for those who do not, I would not recommend stirring the rock sugar one. However, the service was fantastic, and the view was great! Parking is not free in the lot (about $3 an hour as of 04/2023), but if you find parking on the street (on the center divider), then parking is free. read more

The location and the little lighthouse is cute, but that is probably the only good thing about this place. The lobster Mac's cheese had a strange aftertaste and there was very little lobster. The lobster roll was only maybe halfway full with lobster. The lobster roll looked big and beautiful but was truly a let down. The hostesses were honestly very stuck up and rude. The waiter rolled his eyes when my mom asked for hot water with lemon and gave us an exasperated sigh. They don't even have a bathroom for customers. This place is definitely not worth it unless you want to leave hungry after eating overpriced food and feel like everyone there thinks they are better than you even though you are a paying customer. read more

Waited forever for our food. We got the lobster roll, wagyu burger, and chicken and waffles, and garlic bread. EVERYTHING came out cold. Our waiter didn't come by once to check in on us. The fries were cut up to tiny pieces so we had to get another order. It was really just one of the worst experiences I've had at a restaurant. I'm never one to really leave a review, but this was just so awful with such atrocious service I've never experienced, I'm actually taking the time to leave a review. Don't waste your time by dining here. I would give this place a negative score if possible. read more

The experience here started off decently enough -- easy to find and scenic location. We came at sunset on a Saturday night, for my Dad's 70th birthday: requested a nice table for the occasion as we booked in advance, but we were sat downstairs without a view. That's when things started going downhill... Our waitress was very kind and a great server, but unfortunately half of our entrees were forgotten. After 2-3 reminders, we received our Mains piecemeal -- halibut first, then lobster roll 15 min or so later, finally the mahi mahi and sea bass came out when everyone else was done eating. The lobster roll was quite good, but the group of 6 generally decided their grilled fishes (mahi mahi, halibut, etc.) were dry) Despite their best intentions, the place as a whole fell flat. The food was decent, the server was great and very apologetic, but for their location and price point, I would not come back. I'd recommend walking the view instead of dining here. read more

Had a great time! I ordered a steak and a glass of sparkling rosé. The steak, mashed potato and asparagus was spot on for me. Delicious! It comes with a chimichurri sauce which I thought was perfect. I enjoyed the Waterview outside and the fact that it has its own parking lot made it easy to choose this place. Service was a collective of servers and they were all very personable and professional. Really lovely restaurant right on the ocean. We went on the recommendation of a friend with kids. Loved the atmosphere of the indoor dining area. There were tons of windows with a lovely view of the boats. Loved the decor as well. Mary was our server and she was so friendly and took great care of us! The food was so good. We went for brunch and it was a great mix of classic items and Southern California staples. They even brought out cinnamon bread to start. Food was okay-- so so in between. Neither good nor bad. Decorations and interior look nice. Sanitary: When seated on a table, there was a lip stick stain on the water cup so I had to tell the server to bring a new clean water cup. (Took a while to get new water cup). Service is really slow... and I had to ask 2 different servers to bring hot sauce when asked for it because they did not bring it. The third server finally brought the hot sauce when asked one more time but by then, more than half of the food was finished. I don't recommend this place for eating. There are delicious meals elsewhere (not worth the price) but if you are looking for a nice visual beach scenery then this is the place. I question how they keep the kitchen dishes sanitary. Waiters need to be more attentive and remember to follow up. They are SUPER SLOW and forgetful, reminds me of a sloth. read more

My husband, myself, along with our two dogs, a 3 legged English Labrador named Bentley and our little Cavamaltipoo Bosco, can't say enough good things about this gem of a restaurant! The setting is absolutely amazing - relaxing with a calm sandy beach, water and boat views. Their food is outstanding, at ALL meals, but Happy Hour is our favorite on the patio to grab an early bite with our fur-babies after they have a run in the lovely seaside park next door. There are heater lamps and fire tables to add to the already breathtakingly stunning ambiance. The staff is friendly, welcoming and always so loving to our dogs. A special shout out to Ian, Andrew, Sarah and the other staff who always go out of their way to make our visit special. We look forward to our weekly visits and parking is so easy! On a Monday for brunch, we had no wait time and were sat inside. The great thing about the setup of the interior is that you pretty much have a view of the water from any table (well, at least half of your table will). The cocktails were decent, but nothing to write home about. Their mimosa brunch deal is worth it, considering you get one glass on its own for $10 or ~$18 for 3-4 glasses. My favorite here is the lemon ricotta pancakes, though I do feel that they charge a little highly for a couple of slices of bacon if you want a side of protein. On our latest visit, we also learned that the chicken and waffles is a delicious entree here! I think the price point of food, the portions, plus the waterfront view is really the true value of this place! Service was okay, a little slow and inconsistent, but I think they only had maybe 2 servers on and ours may have been breaking her coworker for a portion of the time as well. Since our party was celebrating a birthday, they comped us a plate of their cinnamon beignets, and we had no idea they'd be SO delicious! Food was really great and although we were the last table on the upstairs section, the waiter was still super patient and friendly with us! We were celebrating our friends birthday and they gave us a free birthday beignet!!! As for the meal, we ordered a clam chowder (delicious but the bowl size was still quite small), the bourbon burger medium rare, two pastas, and the salmon. As for drinks we got the espresso martini and the margarita which were both standard but amazing. Highly recommend as a cute date spot, small gathering celebration, or just a nice meal. read more

We made a reservation but still ended waiting for another 30mins before our table was ready. We didn't mind since they have seatings outside. This has been my sister's favorite brunch spot for years, and I'm now a huge fan as well. The location is so thoughtful -- literally inside of a lighthouse!! And it's a very airy and sleek space. We put ourselves on the waitlist to match when we wanted to dine, and you should definitely do that if you're planning to brunch on a weekend. The parking situation is also such a plus because they have a lot with ample spots. You can also wander on the beach as you wait or go on a stroll after your meal. I got the Mahi Mahi Tacos, and we got the Beignets to share. The Beignets here are SO good. I really like how light they are and they aren't overwhelmingly sweet. I literally ate 6 of them LOL.. The tacos were delicious and super flavorful, and the fish was fried perfectly. I also really enjoyed the side salad in this dish; the peppers were a great addition. I've been to Lighthouse twice: on my birthday and 5 years a part exactly. There's no debate that they have an aesthetically decorated and well located visual concept. Their service was helpful albeit frazzled both of the times too (once was Sunday brunch and the other Friday dinner). However, the food is absolutely not enjoyable. Everything is overcooked, salty, and too greasy. You'd think for a seaside, elegant dining experience their menu would be slightly different. However, you're sadly let down. read more

I came here with a friend for brunch on a friday morning. Surprisingly, not as busy as we expected and we got to have a table upstairs outdoors with a view of the water. I got the salmon benedict which isn't on the menu, I think it was seasonal. And to share I got the cinnamon sugar beignets. The cinnamon sugar beignets are more like puff pastry with glaze on top and reminded me and my friend of those cinnabon balls which are bomb. My salmon benedict was pretty standard but not super amazing. Potatoes weren't as crispy as I would've preferred as well. Service was good and it is a super cute spot. I wanted to have a nice meal with good views at the Newport Harbor and this restaurant was just that. We walked up without a reservation on a Sunday around 3:30pm. They told me it would be a 45 min wait which we agreed to wait so my son and I went for a 45 min walk but they ended up calling us early and took us off the list when we didn't show up after being notified our table was ready. Fortunately, the manager was understand and sat us right away. We sat inside (although I think the outside seat are preferred) in the back at some high tables we which actually really enjoyed because it gave a great view out the windows. Also, I would love to sit in the their 2nd floor outside tables however that area was closed when we went. Service was decent enough. Nothing special but efficient. Food was solid. The wagyu burger was really yummy except I asked for medium doneness and it was a bit overcooked. We had the same issue with the Mahi Mahi. It was a bit overcooked and so a bit dried out. The flavor of the citrus beurre blanc was delicate which was nice but a there wasn't enough of it so we ended added salt n pepper. Everything else was really good including the fries, veggies, Caesar salad and the beignets. Beignets were served hot and with melted sauce...so good! Overall, a really pleasant dining experience with exceptional views and we would definitely come back. read more

Came here on a Sunday for my bday brunch and left extremely satisfied. The food was absolutely amazing! Best chicken n waffles I've had. The syrup that comes on the plate is semi spicy but pairs so well! The salads were both fresh & healthy but very fulfilling. The bottomless mimosas come in pitchers which is great. Our waitress was so nice she even offered to take pictures of us before we left. The entire vibe of the restaurant is classy casual. The dock being your view made it even better. Hands down the best and only acceptable Caesar salad at a restaurant, save Caesar's in Mexico where it was invented by an Italian immigrant. They use fresh white Spanish anchovies (not those salty, tough little buggers from a can most restaurants pass off as anchovie.) The fresh anchovie are delectable and tender, the dressing tastes authentic and the presentation is beautiful with lightly toasted parmisan and crumbs. I recommend it! There were lots of things that we liked about Lighthouse Cafe. - being able to put our name on the waitlist online. There was an hour wait but I was able to put our name on the list while still at our previous engagement and I was able to check periodically to see where we were on the list so we could make sure to be there when our table became available. - service was great from the hostess to the waitstaff. Everyone was very friendly and attentive. - Some of the food was really delicious. The Lighthouse Benedict was one of the best benedicts I've ever had. From the toasted but soft english muffin to the lemony rich hollandaise sauce that paired so well with the proscuitto and arugula. I wasn't sure about the balsamic glaze but it went so well. Another dish that was really enjoyed was the lobster mac n cheese, full of pieces of lobster and lots of cheese. And the steak salad, that we were told had a peanut dressing but did not. It was a ginger dressing that was just okay. The steak on it was very good, though, flavorful and tender. Dishes that were so-so were the clam chowder, that was a bit watery and a little sour. And the biggest disappointment which was the fish and chips, which two members of our party ordered. There were three small pieces of fish, similar to fish sticks from Costco, and some lukewarm fries that weren't crispy. - The view was lovely and the restaurant was bright and airy. The music was soft, which was nice. The room had a bit of an echo but it wasn't so loud that you couldn't carry on a conversation. read more

Indoor and outdoor seating. Beautiful view of the bay, especially if you're sitting outside on the second story. Fast and friendly service. Waitlist didn't work for us on Yelp, so heads up. You can also make reservations via Yelp. Not super expensive, but also not budget friendly. Expect cheapest entrees in the $20s and a lot in the $40+ range from my memory as of May 2024. I got the bourbon burger, which comes with fries and a salad. Big serving and big flavor! I was so excited to dig in that I forgot to snap a pic! Fat and happy when done.
