Both of the times I came I was not disappointed with the raisin focaccia. It's a staple for me now. I'm literally in love with it but I was with my boyfriend on a Saturday hoping the pesto focaccia would be available...sadly we came 3 people too late and it was sold out and it was only 9am! Get here on a Saturday before 9am and you're basically guaranteed the special. I have always wanted to come to Liguria Bakery for the focaccia, and I finally got the chance to. Empty when I came in, and they had everything for the day still available. I ended up getting a slice of the pizza, the mushroom, and the rosemary garlic. They don't slice it until you order, so that's nice. Each slice is huge. I wasn't expecting them to give so much. My favorite had to be the rosemary garlic, so much garlic and rosemary, so fragrant. I loved the strong flavor combination. The pizza was good, but the tomatoes were more acidic than I normally like. Mushrooms were super umami. The focaccia itself was amazing, very pillowy inside. When you warm it up, it has a nice crust with a fluffy center. Out of all the breads I've ever had, Liguria's focaccia easily ranks in the top 3 (Apologies to some of the bread in Italy and France). My absolute favorite is the pizza focaccia! They do not short you on that gorgeous tomato topping and the focaccia is always so soft. It's never too salty and I could easily eat the entire square if left unsupervised. It is a very small shop and they do sell out of the popular flavors. You can either line up early or even place an order ahead of time. When you order you can either get a giant square or have them cut up into pieces to eat on the go! The squares are now $8 each, and important reminder is that they are CASH ONLY! Got there around 11:30 AM and they only had three flavors of focaccia left, pizza, onion and mushroom. Got the last mushroom, as well as two onions. The pieces are definitely bigger than the ones pictures, got so excited that we dug in without taking pictures. I don't like mushrooms but my sisters love that one and it's their favorite. I really liked the green onion one, the taste was just right. It wasn't too salty or oily and it had a very soft texture. Service was fast and attentive. Finally re-opened after a fire I think. This place sells out around noonish. So I am rarely in North Beach before that. Today we had to get up early to go to the new hot bakery Butter & Crumble, so we were passing this on the way back home. One could judge me and say "you just came back from a bakery, you don't need more carbs" But when on the carb train, ride it. We got 2 focaccia's and a loaf of the (even more elusive) soft fluffy white bread (one of 3 loaves left at 9:30am). The bread was the star of the show it is so fluffy and yeasty and good. I ate the heal en route to home and then sliced the rest and popped it in the freezer. ALSO - if you are a tourist looking for a unique souvenir, get a liguria Bakery t-Shirt - they even have some that look like 49ers gear. read more

Liguria Bakery is a local household name and favorite for a reason. In fact, they go way beyond "local" - I just read an awesome review about how another Yelper actually received cross-country packages of Liguria's focaccia after moving away from the North Beach area. I think that's a huge testament to the quality, culture, and generational love that goes into their craft. The garlic foccacia as well as the rosemary garlic foccacia are some of my favorites. They also wrap the foccacia so beautifully in soft white baker's paper with a quaint ribbon tied neatly on top. So yeah, I get the raving reviews, and I agree. The general public seems to agree too; people will frequently line up in the wee hours of 6 AM to snag their favorites, because that's just how good this spot is. It may go without saying, but it's not a bad idea to look at the menu beforehand and have your top choices in mind with some alternatives in your back pocket just in case they sell out - which they do. A lot. With over 112 years of service (one of the oldest business in North Beach!) and mind-blowing, absolutely perfected foccacia recipes under their belt, I could not possibly recommend Liguria more. 10/10. 2024 on the Saturday before the Super Bowl with the 49ers playing, staying across the street I watched people started lining up at 5am for the focaccia for this place. North Beach is where my wife grew up and this bakery we had to visit which we did, standing in line for easily 90 minutes hoping to get inside before they sell out before noon, we made it and loved it. We took two home back to LA the next day. Now it's 2025, on a normal Saturday, thankfully no line but damn is this fantastic focaccia. Every time we stay in North Beach, if this place is open, only open till noon M-Sat, we will always stop by to pick up, great breakfast, and take a bunch home to LA. read more

Come and pick up the best pizza bread in the North Beach! The gentleman who owns the place is the friendly, kind, and appreciates his customers. His staff always greets their customers with a smile and friendly talk. I have ordered the tomato sauce pizza, jalapeño with cheese and pesto with cheese. All of them are excellent choices. They have a variety of pizza breads but as they do tend to run out of items the later you arrive, if you are craving something special, give them a call in the morning when they open and they will place your item on the side to pick up when your arrive. I've only been there Saturday morning but I'm sure everyday they are open, items sell out before closing. It's the best pizza bread that's made to perfection. Cute little focaccio shop near Washington Square park. I think they only sell focaccio and focaccio-related merch such as t-shirts. Take out only; no seating available at the shop. They carefully wrapped it with paper and kitchen string. I opted for the rosemary-garlic topping; so delicious! I have turned my daughter on to my childhood love for pizza focaccia. However, as some mentioned, the man who runs it now is a little abrupt and gruff, which can come off rude, but that doesn't stop us since the price is reasonable. We travel from Oakland to the city on the weekends just to gran some. Although I'm not sure what changed, this last time that we purchased the bread, it was extremely salty, particularly around the edges, so I'm hoping that this was just a fluke because I would be so disappointed if this was ongoing. Oh man while waiting across the street at Mama's, I noticed a small line that continually had people coming and going. I read bakery and thought, no you're going to be eating breakfast soon, don't do it. Well my fatass nosy self crossed the street and waited in that line. Pre-gaming breakfast lol. While in line i met a retired fireman, I guess his radar shouted out "not from here" lmao cause he said you made the right decision coming here and waiting in line. He told me this bakery makes the best focaccia bread and they usually sell out by 11am. He recommended the pizza and raisin. I ended up getting the pizza although I did want to get the jalapeño cheese one as well (total regret that I didn't) Because they are closed on Sundays!! Anyhoo, me and my bf ate the pizza focaccia while waiting for Mama's to open and dammmmn it was sssssoooo good. Chewy, tangy, soft the green onions made the whole bread stand out. Who knew green onions and tomato sauce go so well together. Another added bonus is the way they wrap the focaccia in white paper and tie it with a string, old school style. Simple focaccia in many varieties . We loved the onion, jalapeño cheese and rosemary garlic. We were there at 7:30 am and so didn't have to worry about lines or focaccia getting over. At $8 it seems on the higher side but it's a once in a while purchase and so worth it. We got coffee at hole in the wall and ate it on empty streets of early morning San Francisco. Liguria Bakery has earned its fabulous reputation for the best focaccia ever. Go early -- they close when they sell out.

The short and the simple: it's merely the best focaccia around here. Or arguably within hundreds of miles from here. How did I not already review Liguria already? Did Yelp delete my previous review? Anyway, you don't really need to know more, but here's my dozen-and-a-half (give or take) sentences' take on it. (It's been more than 2 years so I am writing from memory.) My favourite is the green onion focaccia. Delicious in it's simplicity, enhanced by the fragrance of the scallions. The "pizza" is my least favourite of the lot; but remember it's all relative (to one another). There's not a single focaccia that isn't delicious. The rest falls somewhere in between though I would place the "plain" in the #2 spot. The breads are thin (about a quarter-inch), slight crusty, with an airy and bubbly crumb. The aromas are heavenly! They will usually pack it in slabs, or slice it into little strips if you ask --- the strips are perfect if you plan on munching as you explore the neighbourhood on foot. I am looking forward to visiting them again, but this time I plan to have it as a sandwich like they do it in Italy -- prosciutto/ham/salami, with arugula, some good cheese (I am thinking either mozzarella or brie); and maybe slap on some slices of tomatoes. And possibly olives/tapenade. But not all at the same time. Gotta keep it simple and play with different combinations. This bakery on the corner of Washington Park has been around for more than a 100 years. They bake only focaccia, nothing else, and they usually sell out before their 2pm closing time. I would highly recommend you get there before noon. They take only cash. read more

Perfection! We went two mornings in a row since we were staying walking distance in the financial district. I had read how good it was, so since we were going to wineries on a bus tour, figured this would be a great snack to pack for soaking up some of the wine along the way. I was right!!! We had the rosemary garlic on our first trip. We literally ate it from a backpack and couldn't have devoured it any faster if we tried. The next morning, we headed straight there first thing in the morning and found a line around the building. Guess everyone knows about this magical focaccia! Don't worry, the line moves quickly! This time we went with a pizza and a black olive. We packed them up as part of our picnic, as we were headed to another day of wineries. Perfection again! For the record, I'd probably skip the pizza in lieu of another black olive and for the garlic rosemary, my husband commented it was "too much rosemary," can't say I agree, but be warned if you only like a little rosemary. Otherwise, plan to make a stop here any time you can. For me, it's every time I head to SF; which I may just need to do again soon for this focaccia! read more

I came in right before 9:00am on a Tuesday and was able to get three slabs of the pizza focaccia ($9 each), which is what my colleague who grew up in North Beach recommended, to bring to the office.
