So I think they're known for their cream puffs, but honestly, their poi mochi donuts was so much more amazing. We ordered some cream puffs...the regular one and the green tea. They actually tasted a little different from some of the other cream puffs I had, but a little too sweet and kind of mediocre in my opinion. Still good none the less though. POI MOCHI DONUTS--these were so bomb. I love the chewiness of the dough. I tried poi before and the taste was a little too interesting for me...but it worked well in these donuts. Such a great place. I came with the family. Seating is limited, but luckily timing was right and we were able to seat 5 of us rather quickly. Don't know if it would happen again. We ordered the loco moco, 3 stack of banana pancakes, 2 eggs and corned beef hash. Everything was sooo good. Sitting at the diner counter, you're able to see the cooks working at the grill. Meals come with a fresh grilled, buttered roll, and jelly that are scrumptious. I doubt they'll ever taste this good at home. The 3 stack of pancakes was a lot. Totally shareable. The banana is blended in the pancakes instead of slices on top. Way better. Corned beef hash is a big crispy patty, which is just the way we like it. Loco moco comes as either a 5 or 7 oz patty. The 5 was just fine. When you're done eating, you can go to the bakery and grab other goodies (known for Cocoa Puffs, which are delicious). This place is so necessary if you're even remotely in the area. The only downside is that there may be a wait to be seated. Just be patient. It's worth it. read more

This was our last stop before heading to the airport to go home and what a delicious way to conclude our trip. After our long list of dining destinations surrounding the island, Liliha attracted us w/ their ox tail soup feature. Sitting at the bar was a simple first come, first served concept w/ a great view of the staff hustling and bustling to flip fresh burger patties for the local favorite Loco Moco or a stack of fluffy pancakes. The butter rolls w/ jam are perfectly buttered and toasted off the griddle in front of you, the ox tail soup makes for what I imagine the ideal soul food w a flavorful broth and and a solid amount of protein. AND if you end up like me watching them grill those fresh patties, you won't be able to resist ordering a side of loco moco w their brown gravy. A Hawaii staple, Liliha Bakery should be a must stop on your to do list when visiting Oahu. The bakery itself is tucked away in a neighborhood area of Honolulu, away from the more touristy areas. When you walk in it will most likely be pretty busy due to the popularity and to be honest it took me a few minutes to figure out what was going on. To order pull a number at the ticket dispenser, then wait for your number to be called. I only waited a few minutes for my order since I only came for one item. The bakery had lot of different cakes and pastries on display but I cam to try the famous coco puffs. The coco puff was essentially a chocolate cream filled doughnut hole type of treat. The outside of it was very light and almost flaky like, while the inside was very sweet and creamy. Definitely make sure to get a coco puff if you are in the area! read more

This place has been around longer than me! And I've never written a review for this place? Whaaaat? This place is definitely one of my top comfort food places. They just renovated the place so it's a little different but yet the same. They did also expand their parking lot too! Open Tuesday 6am- Sunday 8pm. Basically they're closed Mondays. It's one of the last old school places to go eat at with counter top seating. This place is always busy no matter when you come, both the dine in side and the bakery side. You see the same familiar faces if you're a regular since the workers have been there for years. Usually they're all really nice and helpful but sometimes they're so busy, they're not super friendly and just want to help you get what you need. The counter seats about 21 people at a time and usually the wait isn't too long. You can also call in for take out if you don't want to wait. You can get breakfast around the clock or choose some local favorites. You should definitely try their beef stew, hamburger steak, grilled mahi mahi and their waffles! I love all of these items. Their hamburger steak is a grilled homemade style patty and their mahi mahi is the old school egg battered style. And you can't forget their well known grilled butter roll and nuclear looking jelly! A lot of people come here for their bakery. Their bakery items taste homemade, which is what I love about them. Almost everything I've had here, I really enjoyed. I get so overwhelmed looking at all the glass cases full of delicious desserts. They have cakes, pastries, donuts, etc. I want it all. Decisions decisions! But I can't get everything, at least at one time. They're known for is their infamous cocoa puffs filled with chocolate filling and topped with Chantilly frosting. You can even buy them by the dozen frozen! The shell is nice and chewy and the chocolate filling isn't overwhelming. The Chantilly frosting is a nice touch and also another signature of theirs. Last year they introduced the poi donut which is absolutely addicting! Don't like poi? It doesn't matter, you will love these donuts! They remind me of Mr. Donut in Japan. They even look like the pan de ringu! They have light coat of frosting and have a a vibrant purple chewy inside. It came with a grilled butter roll and nuclear jelly. The mahi mahi was yummy, it had a egg batter and was a huge portion. I liked that it wasn't fishy like at some places. Me and m best friends mom are visiting from the mainland. While we were shopping at he Ala Moana Mall, my friend suddenly remembered and insisted we stop by the Liliha Bakery for some fresh burger buns! We went in and Immediatly knew I was walking out of there with more than burger buns. We ended up coming out with burger buns, one haipia malasada, 4 apricot scones, one coconut cream danish, one cream filled croissant and 4 coconut cream puffs! At first, we went to the other location and when we found that they didn't sell the Chantilly cream cake as a slice, we drove to the other location that did ( this one). The Chantilly cake was ok. It was moist and cold, but it didn't live up to my expectations. Would I drive out to this location if I knew? Probably not. We also had their green tea cream puffs. I thought they were just average as well. Nothing remarkable that stands out or to talk about. Also, they took about 15-20 minutes completing out order. Slow in service and the staff were sort of clueless. They would just keep us on hold while we asked if there were any cake left, then go on walking in and out when it could have been easily answered. The sign was burnt out and the bathrooms were messy but that food though...wow. The prices are absolutely ridiculously good. So good that I triple checked when the bill came to make sure there were no errors. Nope, just great prices. The food was soooo tasty! I actually got the waffles with the whipped butter, blueberries, strawberries and nuts for the first time ever after giving birth at the hospital after midnight. The hours are just that great! Where else can I get the best waffles at that hour? Not many places, I looked. Three months later I went back (tonight) with my baby, hubby and dad. The waffles were just as good. The products here are good. Pricey, but good. But the last visit was painful! Pulled my number and was thankful I was 2 numbers away from being called. There were a bunch of workers behind the counters, but almost all of them were talking to each other like a huge coffee break. And then, the mass exodus began! Apparently I was there during shift change, right before 2 pm, so everyone began coming out of the kitchen and going to one of the registers; to clock out, I guess. What got me was the person with the number in front of me had been called and was being helped, but everyone else behind the counter continued talking to each other and completely ignoring the waiting customers. It literally took 10 minutes for my number to be called (I checked my watch several times out of disbelief)! Finally, after everyone from the previous shift left, my number was called. I ordered and left. Total time was about 15 minutes. Disappointing, nonetheless, but the desserts were good, but not wait 15 minutes good! I'm not a huge coco puff fan, so I should've left when the time reached past 5 mins, especially when you're up next! I think I'll pass this place up the next time I need omiyage and hit up Ani's or some other local bakery which won't make me wait as long! Had this place a couple times during our trip to Oahu! We went to the original location in Honolulu. We ordered loco moco, beef curry plate, teriyaki chicken, and beef teriyaki all plates with macaroni salad and white rice. Everything was very good!! Service was awesome! The ladies were very friendly. We also tried some desserts: 2 taro mochi donuts, green tea cream puff, chocolate cream puff, and pineapple upside down cake. Everything was so good!!
