Stopped here on our way to the airport for some treats to enjoy on the plane ride home (sob). Guava cream cheese strudel was perfect. Also loved the poi mochi doughnut. Can skip the plain cake doughnut!

Good food. Prices are high for what you get. Complimentary sweet bread toast is nice. Loco moco- $17.95 4/5 Rice is nice, brown gravy is from powdered gravy, fresh grilled hamburger- nothing too special but not offensive. 2 eggs as you like it. Alternative fried rice -$18.95 Waffle comes with whipped cream (maybe cool whip) blueberry and strawberry slices. $17.95 Coffee is solid and good prices. $3.95 Service got our orders mixed up but kind and polite.

Liliha Bakery is pure nostalgia. Especially this location which is the original. It's a small quaint spot with counter seats. It can get busy but service moves very quickly. Don't forget to try their butter rolls with the radioactive jelly haha. They are very addicting. Fried rice has a good garlic flavor and the banana pancakes lacked the banana flavor but overall we loved it.

Bakery and restaurant, it's all delicious! Service was fast and friendly. I am not much of a breakfast eater but loved their ultimate berries and nut waffle. Ordered a side of the fried potatoes, they had really good flavor but were a bit undercooked. My friend had the loco moco with fried potatoes and he agreed the potatoes were a bit undercooked....but he still enjoyed his meal. Fresh brewed tea and amazing choice of baked goods...definitely recommend this location!

It's a little different now. I mean, they add a small salad to the breakfast plates. I guess we need a little roughage...LOL! Two eggs scrambled with Spam and rice. Oh and a side of Portugeuse sausage, and a waffle....LOL! These are my go tos! The waffle was good but it didn't taste like before. Auntie couldn't believe I was going to eat this all! But I didn't have breakfast and I wasn't going to have lunch so, yes, all my favorites. A couple came and sat next to me. I wasn't sure if they were in a hurry or was just impatient. But come one people, aunties are working and just relax. Mahalo Liliha! Always love coming to visit!

Yesterday I was surprised with really good news, so although I had been trying to be good diet-wise, I felt like splurging and indulging a bit. This morning I waited outside Liliha Bakery for its 6 am opening, then went in and asked the woman at the counter if there were any custard pies. She said she would ask. When she came back, she said yes, but they were still hot. I told her I would take one, and that I also wanted a few other items. I ordered two each of the Pepperoni Pizza Rolls, the Hot Dog Rolls, and the Poi Mochi Donuts. I want to add that the young lady was really nice, unguarded, which I like. It was easy to talk and joke with her. I took the boxes to the office and had some of everything (I "indulged"). I left the remainder on the break room table without announcing them, as I used to do in the past. This was all comfort food for me this morning. With some help from others, everything was gone by around lunchtime. I didn't explain to anyone why I had brought the treats.

There are five locations in Honolulu, but if you want the true old-school Liliha experience, this is the definitive place to go. Even though there were locations closer to us, Jamie W and I took the local bus, the 13, for well over a half-hour to get to Kalihi where it sits on Kuakini Street. Here it was pretty busy between the bakery and the long diner counter. We were surprised there were no tables and chairs, but we managed to sidle into two open spots in front of the grill. The menu was classic diner fare with the typical Hawaiian signature dishes. But first, we were served their house bread rolls, grilled, soaked in melted butter, and accompanied by a florescent strawberry syrup (Photo 10). They were devoured quickly. For our meal, we succumbed to local favorites. Jamie ordered the $18.95 Mahi Mahi & Eggs, a hearty portion with three grilled filets topped with scrambled eggs with mixed greens and rice (Photo 8). Flattened for easy grilling, the fish was tasty and more tender than we expected. I went even more classic and ordered the $17.95 Loco Moco with Garlic Fried Rice, a large hamburger patty grilled and topped with a runny fried egg. It was laid on top of the rice and drenched in country-style gravy (Photo 9). It worked for me. Our veteran server had an edge, but she eventually warmed up to us. Meanwhile regulars were rotating the counter like clockwork. Our visit wasn't over though. Various YouTube vloggers encouraged a perusal of the bakery, in particular, the $3.19 Coco Puffs, chocolate-filled cream puffs topped with Chantilly frosting. We bought two and added the $3.59 Green Tea version, the $3.19 regular cream puff with powdered sugar, and the $3.19 Chocolate Cream Puff (Photo 7). Hey, we were on vacation. We waked over to Liliʻuokalani Botanical Garden and devoured them easily. FOOD - 4.5 stars...the diner fare is satisfying but it's the coco puff that takes it over the top AMBIANCE - 4 stars...classic no-frills grub spot SERVICE - 3.5 stars...a bit surly behind the counter TOTAL - 4.5 stars...I'm cuckoo for coco puffs RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? Hamburger steak with multi-grain rice and tossed sald

We have been coming here for years; food is always good, not great. We came on a Thursday morning around 9:30 am; and figured we wouldn't have to wait, oh, were we wrong, there were 10 people in front of us. The wait actually wasn't that bad, maybe 15 minutes. It is a typically diner, counter seatings only. The service wasn't great, but not rude; they take your order and they bring you the food; no pleasantries or small talks, I guess they need to turn the tables (counter seats) quickly. We had the loco moco with fried rice and hamburger steak with multi-grain rice and toss salad; they didn't offer a choice of dressing, but the default asian dressing was delicious. The food was good with very big portions; I had a hard time finishing my loco moco. They served it with lots of yummy brown gravy, the way it should be. My wife enjoyed her hamburger steak as well. Oh, don't forget to visit the bakery side after eating; they have many super yummy baked goodies!

Good old famous bakery restaurant was half filled and pastries fresh. Still miss old favs like jelly roll But times change coco puffs still rule. German chocolate cake.

This is always a convenient place to grab a quick bite when running around town. The food is always consistently good with local favorites. I always love the rolls and jelly that comes with your meals. It's also great to grab some cinnamon twist or coco puffs on the way out .

    Darroll L.

The Liliha Bakery is consistently delicious. They have a wide variety of items to choose from and everything is appealing to the eyes. You can randomly make a selection and almost guarantee you will enjoy to item picked. We always go for the Mochi Donuts and add some other random selection. Stop by and enjoy!

    Grilled Corn Bread & Jelly
    Zoe G.

Loved sitting at the counter for breakfast, the staff were so kind and friendly. We got the macnut waffle and grilled cornbread. I loved both...so much so that I went back a 2nd time just for the corn bread. We also grabbed a box from the bakery with a poi mochi donut hot and fresh. The coco puffs were nice, but nothing mind blowing. Pricing in the bakery and at the counter were quite reasonable!

    So many options!

Ask the Community - Liliha Bakery

What is the food choices n costs @ ur food menu?

Their menu is available on their website.

Does Liliha Bakery take orders for Butter rolls, for example...Thanksgiving? We want to avoid the "crowd".

Aloha! Yes, we do take pre-orders! You can either give us a call at one of our locations or visit us at lilihabakery.com to place an order for tomorrow or any day. Mahalo nui!

What bakery items are gluten free?and do all their bakeries have GF items?

    Poi mochi donut Yes

For pastries, doughnuts, etc., how do their prices compare vs. Kamehameha Bakery?

Kamehameha is much more inexpensive than Liliha. I think Kam has a better glazed donut, and their haupia and poi are unmatched by anyone. The sizes of the pastries are also much bigger than Liliha. I love Liliha but I've been going there for…

How is liliha bakery custard pies? Is it good?

I enjoyed the custard pie so much. The pastry dough is flavorful and smooth. The custard is rich and silky. The flavors compliment each other well.

Is the butter cake and chocolate dobash good? I want to order for a birthday but I wanted to try something different.

Both good - I personally like the dobash Good luck

My kid is asking (not surprised lol) but does the loco moco have any veggies/onions (so the burger patty itself)? Thank you!

The gravy is typically made from mushrooms and onions.

Do you use fresh strawberries in your strawberry shortcake?

    YEs

Is the moco loco served during lunch and dinner as well? Or is it only a breakfast item?

    Yes. All day

How well does frozen coco puffs travel by plane?

I believe it will do well, but it may not last the temptation of having a few during the flight.

What location has the shortest bakery line? Or better yet do any locations allow you to order bakery items while at your table for dine in?

I was able to order from the bakery while dining at their Kalihi location. I was happy they let me because darned if that line didn't go out the door that day.

Do you have any gluten-free items on your menu?

Are you talking about the bakery or the diners? Diners have an egg menu and ox-tail soup.

    Breakfast served all day?

    Yes

    Curly noodle Saimin?

Why don't u call them to find out

Has anyone tried hand carry to mainland? How did it handle?

We brought boxes of the poi donut and didn't have any problem ' It's so good reheating by air frying !

What time do they stop serving waffles/breakfast?

They serve a full menu all the time I believe.

Hows the parking and can i have a reservation for 7-8 persons?

I suggest that you call Ala Moana @ Macy's or the Nimitz location for 7-8 people because the Liliha location has like counter with partitions on it .

Any bakery goods gluten free mainly asking about mochi donuts?

Aloha Ana! Unfortunately, we do not carry any gluten-free items. Mahalo for reaching out!

    Any gluten free?

    Yes

Do you deliver online mother's day orders?

Aloha Caroline! We only do pick-ups for our orders. Mahalo!

They were all taken by what looks like an after party crowd. Maybe they just came from dancing or just drinking in a bar. They were loud and a bit intoxicated. Ok back to what you're really here for. The food. I ordered the furikake ahi. It comes with mixed greens and asparagus. There also is some "bomb sauce". It's nice and creamy with a slight hint of heat. The furikake ahi was nicely prepared. It wasn't overcooked. It was done almost perfect. I like to see some rawness in the middle but it was close. It was really good and I was quite surprised. The asparagus too was really good. It wasn't overcooked where it's mushy or undercooked where it's hard. Prepared perfectly. I'm not a veggie person but the dressing was really good. Not exactly sure what type of dressing it was but it came with it. So no Thousand Island, Ranch, French, Italian or your Oil and Vinegar. It was really good. I just wish they gave a little more. Overall it was a really good and satisfying meal. It compares well with a restaurant like Nicos. Just not the same atmosphere and you're probably going to wanna take it home to eat. Lots of parking in the very early morning as every place else is closed. They are open 24 hours. A rarity after covid came and went. So if you're looking for someplace open late night or early morning serving a good furikake ahi this is your place. Give them a try. It's worth the price at under $20. There are many other offerings to choose from and will probably try something else from here. They also do offer a mixed plate where you can have two choices off their regular menu board. Sorry I didn't take pictures of the menu. Maybe next time I'm here. The person that took my order was really nice. She was an elderly Filipina. She was very nice and pleasant especially at working this very early morning. I think her name was ate Letti or maybe auntie Letti. Very good service.

And we just can't go here anymore unless changes are made! We used to prefer them over Zippy's, but now they are less than 7-Eleven quality, while charging higher-end prices for the neighborhood. We have given them many chances, hoping it was just a fluke, but we have repeatedly been disappointed. Their chicken has become chewy and fatty, their rice is mediocre, and condiments such as mayonnaise are stripped down to the bare minimum quantity. Chile is poured so lightly that it is practically a minuscule amount. And their prices have continued to rise. I don't know if greedy people took over the restaurant who just don't care anymore, or what is going on. I remember when I used to take people here, and they would be impressed with the quality and quantity--plates just heaping with good cuts of meat, noodles, and rice. Those days are no more. As they say in Japan, the price performance is poor. Furthermore, their staff is rude. I can only imagine it was an owner working this day because it was a face I haven't seen that often. An older gentleman who appeared to be of Okinawan descent, working the cashier register, accosted us because I was privately discussing with my family about splitting different items with them. We were all ordering something, so he wasn't losing any money, but he told us about how prices are double in Waikīkī. First of all, it is rude to interrupt your customers that way. Secondly, we don't go to Waikīkī or care about Waikīkī. What happened to serving the locals? Third, Waikīkī has an assortment of restaurants, prices, and qualities, and they shouldn't be how you base your services. Lastly, I guarantee I could find a better deal in Waikīkī if I wanted to. Next time you're in the area, just go get a $6 bento or a $5 burrito from 7-Eleven next door. I assure you, the price performance and experience will be better. If Rainbow Drive-In is in the business of comparing themselves to other things, let's compare them to 7-Eleven and at least try to be better than them, right? I can get mochiko chicken from 7-Eleven for $6.99 that is similar in portion size and better quality. Meanwhile, they are serving their fatty, dry chicken for $16.75. Highway robbery! And they are not fancy, with their dirty picnic tables and plastic cutlery. They are just a step above a food truck, if that. Save yourself from the hype. They have gone downhill like a landslide. Go elsewhere.
