The worst service I've seen in a while. I had gone in to purchase pastries. Over $80 worth to be exact. I asked to purchase a plastic bag, like I had seen multiple customers with before me (in line and leaving the bakery) and the worker didn't hesitate in telling me no, no more. I saw another lady grabbing a bag and pointed to it asking for that one and said I would pay for it. Yet again without even blinking denied that they had it. Finally she had offered me a $6 insulated bag. I was just appalled at the fact that I would spend so much money just to receive that type of service. I can't believe I offered to pay for the plastic bags and she told me no, with 4 boxes of pastries and had the rudest attitude. Even at the ala moana location. I inquired about the price of an item since it wasn't labeled and the lady told me "just look at the list right there". If I had know what specific cookie it was on the list of 5 types of cookies I wouldn't have asked. Customer service definitely needs to be revisited. After a night out drinking, our friend really wanted to take us to Liliha's for some late night eats since it's open 24 hours. I got the Portuguese sausage, egg, and fried rice... with spam on the side, because if I was going to be in Hawaii, I wanted to eat as much Portuguese sausage and spam as I could!! The food was really good! A tad bit on the salty side for me, but nothing major. I wish I ordered a waffle since my friend raved about it so much, but I think I'd just have to come back here! The Filipino aunties were really nice to us, and in true Filipino fashion, one asked us where we were from aka where our parents are from in the Philippines, and proceeded to tell us all about her kids and grandchildren, which I thought was really sweet. If you're visiting Oahu and you're about to leave, you must make a stop at Liliha Bakery and get some Cocopuffs to take home with you. If you live on the island and you still haven't been here, something is wrong. Liliha Bakery is a cute little bakery and diner on North Kuakini St. You can't miss it because there are just so many cars from it's popularity! There is another Liliha Bakery on Nimitz Hwy, I haven't been to that one yet, but I'd assume that it's the same thing. I just wanted to hit up the original location. You can't go wrong with their Cocopuffs here. They are a MUST HAVE, even if you're getting something else to eat. They come in little half-dozen containers, and full-dozen containers for you to take on the go. Each Cocopuffs is filled with chocolate filling and topped off with either chantilly/macha/chocolate frosting. Personally, I think chantilly is the best one. I've had their steak and eggs once before and it was pretty good. The steak is thinly sliced and seasoned well, topped with eggs and a scoop of rice. I good amount for what you pay! So again, if you're leaving and you haven't gotten Liliha yet, make sure to take a stop on your way to the airport. We came here around 10p & were pleasantly surprised to see that they still had a good amount of desserts. Chocolate Coco Puffs: The filling inside has a pudding texture. Green Tea Coco Puffs: Subtly sweet. Poi Donut: Out of the 3, I enjoyed this one a lot which surprised me because I am not a fan of Poi but this was super good. A sweet glaze all around. Liliha bakery was delicious. Coming from San Diego we got to try a whole bunch of sweets that we just can't find near us. My favorite was the matcha cream puff. The matcha was so creamy. Was delicious. The poi donuts were also good. To me they reminded me of Krispy Kreme. The Lilikoi malasada was my second favorite. The cream on the inside was very fruity and really brought out the lilikoi flavor. The bakery was definitely a great place to try. read more

Liliha Bakery is such a staple on Oahu. This place is always packed! We came on a Saturday night to grab some Cocoa Puffs which are amazing, if you haven't had them. I also really wanted to try their new poi doughnut. If you're grabbing pastries, take a ticket and the ladies will call your number to help you. If you're just buying Cocoa Puffs from the boxes already out just wait and someone will ring you up no need to wait. I had also wanted to get take out so the lady was able to accommodate me even if I was ordering on the bakery side. The food is tasty. The price is kind of high compared to other places of the same level. The entrees I tried were the butterfish and grilled shrimp. They are very good. The butter rolls served with the entrees are hot and soft. This place is famous for their bakery, such as the coco puffs. I would recommend getting some coco puffs to go so you can enjoy them at home or anywhere else. The parking can be full during meal time, such as lunch and dinner. This is especially true during the weekends. You will have to plan ahead if you were to bring a big group here. They will only take reservations for a large group, which I think is 20 or more. When doing walk ins, sometimes the wait times can be long. Overall this is a great place to bring a visitor to enjoy some local food. read more

This review is for the bakery only. It pains me to write this since I grew up on Liliha Bakery goodies my whole life, living just up the street and getting chubby on cake donuts and long johns, but this last cake was the tipping point. Let me first say, I do love their guava lilikoi chiffon - hands down my favorite cake of all time. Downside is steep though. I have yet to find anything exceptional here anymore. I have also now ordered 2 character cakes about a year apart, and they were both by far some of the worst butter cakes I've eaten. Frosting was flavorless, just like eating light whipped unsalted butter, leaving an awful film coating your mouth. The cake was no better, dry and crumbly, perhaps overbaked? This last cake though, beyond its terrible taste and texture was the quality. It just collapsed into itself on the ride home. There was no jostling about, just straight up (or down?) collapses. Late review. During my trip to Oahu Hawaii - I made a stop here with a local friend who said the place was to die for; and he was right! I got the pastries, fresh baked pastries in the front of the store and a small cute diner on the side. You normally wouldn't expect a diner style restaurant here - but they served amazing food. What can I say about good, old Liliha Bakery. An institution even back when I was a kid. You know, in the previous millennium. Food is always consistent. Hearty, local-style foods done right. But as a vegetarian, not much to eat. Ends up being pretty much a total carb-party. But I still come here for the occasional pancake, which is always well executed. And their fried potatoes...fried in a ladle of oil...yummy and crispy. If I were an omnivore, I'd rate this place a solid 4 stars. But from a vegetarian perspective, have to drop one star. I have to say, with all the renovations, this place has lost its old-timey ambience. Instead, it has been replaced by cold, generic granite with accent lights. The formica countertops and old stools brought back small-kid memories of sitting in front of a steaming bowl of saimin, shaking a ton of black pepper into the dashi. I can still smell it. Now you'll have to go to nearby Jane's Fountain for the whole 3D immersive effect But the workers are still the same. Literally. I think I remember some from 10 years ago. They are always efficient and friendly (give a smile, get a smile). I do miss the old man who used to man the grill. It was like watching a completely mesmerizing, utilitarian ballet. I thought I reviewed this before, but if not I will now. I've been here probably 20 or 30 times. My go to is usually oxtail soup, Loco Moco or corned beef hash with eggs and rice. Each meal comes with a basket of popovers that are delicious. The oxtail is pretty decent and filling. The Loco Moko is basic, but the gravy is too rich and dark for my taste. I think they're using a 3 beer roux. That means to cook the roux in the amount of time it takes you to drink 3 beers. I think a 1 beer roux is more appropriate for Loco Moko gravy. The corned beef hash is legit. Scratch made, not from the can. Coco puffs are to die for as well. read more

Cool bakery with tons of options, though mostly sweet. We had to take a number to get in line, which wasn't too obvious to us until we asked someone if they were in line after waiting a bit. There were quite a few people but they are able to clear the line pretty fast. This particular store also had a diner inside - unless you were ordering diner food you couldn't get a seat and sit which was a bit annoying but understandable. I tried the poi donut and my bf got the pizza bread. Both tasted good, but nothing to write home about. Also, the prices were quite high - comparable to Paris Baguette NorCal prices thus minus one star. Also wish they offered more than just regular coffee, but coffee isn't their expertise so we're not too mad. read more

I rather eat at this location than the Nimitz location, due to the fact that some of the cooks in the kitchen has been there for years. I got there during the lunch hour, and only waited a couple of minutes to be seated which is surprising, since they do have limited seating. My mom ordered Saimin for herself and I had ordered the fried Mahi and Hamburger Steak combo, (sadly, I don't have a picture because I forgot to save it). The Saimin had such a flavorful soup base without being overpowering. It's like that old neighborhood Saimin stand taste. Can anyone relate? The Mahi and hamburger steak combo was so huge, I shared it with my mom, and I still had leftovers! They serve it with their homemade tartar sauce, and the hamburger steak was just perfection! The fact that I could still taste the char from the grill, really put it over the top for me. The aunties over there really know what they're doing! This past Saturday 10/5/19 was the first time I've ever eaten inside Liliha bakery, I'm very familiar with their pastries and I love many of them! But I have to say the dinning area isn't all that great. It was a cold night so I decided to try their beef stew, wrong choice because I would of ordered something else if I knew I'd be watching them warm up my beef stew In The microwave. That was kinda disappointing, taste wise it wasn't horrible but wasn't the best either. The best part about the meal was definitely the hot butter roll with jelly, super ono! My husband had the steak and eggs and that wasn't too bad either. If eating here I recommend ordering items that they cook on the spot such as breakfast items. I think it's ridiculous that they serve microwaves oxtail soup for $17+. Anyways service wasn't too good, in the middle of our meal there was a shift change and I guess our old server never mentioned us to the next shift and waited about 20 mins to find someone to help us pay before I finally decided to walk to the front of the bakery to pay for the meal. This review is based on 3 different experiences of Liliha's goodness! First, a coworker introduced their waffle batter to me. Wow! I had a fresh waffle for breakfast and then another for lunch. Then I contemplated buying a waffle maker of my own. Second, I had the coco puffs. Another coworker brought in an assortment to work. She purchased them the night before. I ate 3... one of each flavor that day. Chocolate, chantilly, then green tea. Having lived in Japan for 6 years, I have eaten my share of cream puffs. In fact, I tried to eat one from every single different bakery I encountered. Liliha's are smaller and more affordable compared to the typical Japanese ones. They are not as light though. I don't mean just the batter. The blob on top which looked like a puff of cream at first thought, is actually very heavy. It is quite the contrast compared to the rest of the item, which is a light egg batter and light filling. I don't know if it is different fresh, but the chocolate especially was solid like a fudge. An odd combination for my mouth to eat. The custard filling of the chocolate was my favorite. The green tea was good too. The top and inside were more balanced. The normal chantilly puff was too salty on top for my taste. I did not like the texture or flavor much. Maybe it tastes different fresh, but not sure if I am ready to risk it. Third, my husband and I went and got some baked goods to go. Parking was not an issue when we went at 6pm. There was a big line inside though and we had to pull a number. It was maybe a 10 minute wait. We got a mix of stuff. I had the eclair for dinner. It was very good. Basically an elongated chocolate coco puff to me. If it literally is... then the chocolate on top was much more palatable fresh. The cronut was very good. Flaky and delicious! The normal sugar covered cream puff was nice and simple. I think I prefer it to having the chocolate on top. I had my to go butter roll the next day for lunch. Just reheated in the microwave. It was just okay. I am expecting much more when I get the chance to dine in and have it grilled warm. I did not try the donuts my husband got, but he enjoyed them. I was also impressed with the prices.
