Liman is a Brooklyn institution for traveling foodies and locals. Had a wonderful experience celebrating a family birthday dinner and everything exceeded my expectation. Our server was very attentive and went out of his way to make sure we had a wonderful experience and it was. From appetizers to the main course everything was cooked and presented perfectly and tasted great. The decor complements the restaurants amazing chef and a welcoming and professional staff. Liman is located directly on and overlooking the water, a perfect setting for couples and family's alike. We are tourists and choosed the Liman as our go-to place for a fish. It is absolutely overpriced and the food doesn't deserve it. Unfortunately, the hostess treated us very poorly gave us the feeling like she is very busy, there's still a different way to treat a customer, we felt unwanted. We left and had a great diner in a nice restaurant where we were treated with compassion. However me and my wife will never go again to the Liman it is amaizing how the business is runing with such a service. read more

The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because they use to be amazing. They changed the menu and took out many popular dishes. Gave it a chance and the food was just tasteless. We were hanging out in Coney Island -- seeing the last of the Mermaid Parade. We were hungry and I knew that Liman was a short car ride away. The place was packed, but they sat us immediately. I will start by saying that the food is FRESH. We had a salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, onions and shredded cheese on the top. The turkish version of Feta would be my guess. And the octupus salad. Both delicious. My husband, tall and skinny, could not keep his hands off the fresh bread. Between the three of us we had a meatball dish, a lamb kebab and a shrimp kebab. All really, really good. And the rice and veggies that came with the entrees were great as well. The prices were great. It was just over $100 for three people (drinks, no dessert). We can't wait to go back. read more

So first of all, forget about the fact that "Turkish" comes before "Seafood." This is primarily a seafood place - at least that was my take on it. Sure, some of the menu items were in Turkish, but the largest part of the menu was devoted to various products of the sea. Which is a very good thing - I expect that a restaurant directly on the canal, and with a "nautical" theme should be good at seafood. And it sure is. I went there today, with 4 other people. Our waitress, Vika, was very helpful in her suggestions. She suggested to skip the meat, and order the fish. We got the trout, the flounder, the salmon steak, the duradu, and the St. Peter's fish. We also got the cold shrimp appetizer, and the calamari rings, of the latter of which we ordered a second serving. The cocktail and white sauce were most excellent. The fish was also to die for, though in my opinion the trout could've used more pepper, which was easily fixable. Their turkish tea was good as well, and their desserts were pretty good too. So, what were the downsides? Only two - one major and one minor. When my mother ordered a glass of white wine, there was lipstick on the rim of the glass. Gross. Luckily, they replaced it first thing, but that sort of thing shouldn't happen. The other minor thing was, as mentioned previously, the fish was a tiny bit under-spiced, but that was easily fixed as well. We ended up dropping $450 for 6 people (5 there, and one for a family member who couldn't show up). Overall, other than those two minor caveats, I would recommend this place to everyone. Of course, calling ahead is a good idea - we were there on a Thursday and literally every table was occupied by around 8 PM. read more

I have eaten here a few times and had the bronzini and other fish dishes, salads, and a variety of appetizers and the food is average to good. The atmosphere in the back room overlooking the water is pleasant, but very noisy since the tables are all on top of each other with little space between them. If you are not bringing a car, the restaurant has a plentiful selection of fish dishes and is worth a try if you're in the area.The problem keeping this from getting a better rating is the abysmal management of the parking valet. It's known that Sheepshead Bay is pretty impossible to park a car in on a weekend night, but when a restaurant offers valet parking you expect to be able to get in and dine within a reasonable amount of time. After waiting on a valet line for 45 minutes where the valet seemed to park the cars of his friends before the next car in the line, the 4 couples I was with (with 4 cars experiencing the same problem) finally left the restaurant to find another place to eat. This has happened before, but the problem seems a bit more out of control now. If they cannot park the cars in a reasonable amount of time the restaurant should not offer valet service or explain that there is (up to or over...never found out since we left) an hour of wait time to valet park so we can make an informed decision. Fortunately, we were able to go to another restaurant where the valets actually parked the cars within 15 minutes and had a wonderful meal. Very disappointed that the parking service the restaurant contracted with was not better managed since we were not the only disgruntled customers driving away. read more

I made a reservation 2 weeks ago for my birthday. I thought I would have outdoor seating but we were in the crowded room and barely anyone in the restaurant. The food was terrible, a sea bass with no flavor, not a filet and had to pay extra for a side. We had a delicious late lunch on Saturday at Liman Restaurant. The water views in the dinning room at the back are delightful. The chef and kitchen staff prepare the food which is well seasoned and so fresh. The salad, the hummus , egg plant dip, turkish bread, grilled Branzino fish and St Peters fish are delicious.The mixed grilled is perfectly cooked.The profiteroles , baklava and turkish coffee are the perfect balance to finish a well prepared and enjoyable meal. read more

Fresh, deliciousness awaits! This classy yet casual restaurant has a front and back dining area. I sat in the back with spectacular views of the water. The Turkish salad was a pile of tasty goodness with cucumbers, tomatoes, onions and a host of yummy spices to tickle your tastebuds. For dinner I had the surf & turf, comprised of flavorful baby lamb chops grilled to perfection with a skewer of shrimp and vegetables, rice pilaf, and a splendid spaghetti -style mixed vegetables. I devoured every bite! I also tried my companion's mashed potato and green beans- again cooked to yummy perfection, a symphony for the tastebuds! For dessert I had baklava- delicate, moist, and sweet. My companion ordered the salmon, which looked delectable, but I did not taste it. If forced to reveal fault, I would say that the food- mostly the mixed vegetables- could have been hotter and the coffee wasn't as good as I hoped it would be in a Turkish restaurant. Also, as I went early on Saturday night, the weekend before a holiday, there were some big parties, one of which included a lot of young kids and translated to a lot of noise, but not worth deducting points. Further, the prices are not cheap; the bill was about $180 including meals, 2 glasses of Prosecco, and tip for 2 people. Overall I loved this place and can't wait to go back. read more

Called on phone and they gave me a really hard time. Wanted to give me that appy free next visit, really? Would they EVER remember that?! so our buddy uraz was feeling homesick and i knew exactly where to take him. as soon as we drove into the neighborhood he lit up with joy, "omg this place looks exactly like a portside street in istanbul" then we walk to the entrance and "omg there are so many turkish people here". we get our seats and "omg this place looks exactly like a restaurant i've eaten when we were on vacation by the sea. its got all the relaxed decor of a vacation eatery. they got all the fine details even down to the cheesy pop turkish music". then he orders for us all and we are blown away. uraz says turks eat lots of appetizers and tons of bread. proudly proclaiming "the guiness book of world records says the average turk eats his body weight in bread every week". the bread was great and it went well with everything. eggplant salad is great. eggplant with tomato sauce was even better. coban salatasi turkish salad was wonderfully flavored with vinegar and olive oil which tasted great when you dipped your bread into it. the stuffed mussels were decent but tasted a little too sweet because of the cinnamon. then came the MOST AMAZING FISH EVER. the imported akdeniz leverigi sea bass was grilled perfectly charred crispy on the outside while juicy flaky inside. the pan-fried hamsi were the best anchovies i ever had, so flavorful. the red mulled barbunya tava was really yummy and worth sifting through and swallowing the gazillion bones. if you don't have a bottomless pit stomach then just skip the appetizers and go straight for the fish which is where they excel. if this place wasnt' so far, i'd come here any day over blt fish. be careful with raki it is very strong and hits you FAST. so make sure you finish the meal with a cup of turkish coffee. they make it so good here - tops tops tops. as we were cruising back to the city passing the verrazano "omg that bridge looks exactly like the one that brings me from my home in the burbs into istanbul!" trip to nyc ethnic neighborhood = quick fix for homesickness. read more

One of my favorite restaurants. I'm a former chef and come from a family in the restaurant business. This is my first choice to celebrate daily life or a birthday. In fact, I'm celebrating my birthday there AGAIN, tonight. Two years ago I brought about 12 guests to my birthday dinner and it was everything I hoped it would be. The kebabs are incredible. Still, I always order the whole fish. It doesn't matter which one - they are all prepared simply and perfectly. Beautiful charred on the outside and moist and delicate on the inside. The appetizers are all excellent as well. My friends and family crave the octopus. Oh! The Turkish Salad is my wife's favorite spicy salad of all time. One night, she ordered two! The Shepherd's Salad is from heaven - exactly as it's supposed to be if you really know food from that area. We like to have it with cheese and I'm starving now just thinking about it. We enjoy their wines, and anise-flavored spirits, served traditionally - and better - with the addition of the glass sitting in a frozen block of ice so that ice doesn't not dilute the spirit. We are sometimes too full to have dessert because we go heavy on their delicious bread...but we enjoy the desserts and coffee as well. The staff has always been warm and professional, and the other guests have always brought a nice vibe, over many visits through the years. They have valet service if you are driving in. Over all, I have no criticism. The view outside is between great and beautiful, depending on the time of day/night and the weather...but we enjoy dining in any part of the restaurant. On my way in from midtown, I can get into many great restaurants that specialize in seafood, but instead, I'm headed home to Kensington, Brooklyn and will drive all the way to Sheepshead Bay, because there is only one Liman - and they are the real deal. read more

Sheepshead Bay is full of good Turkish places and Lihman USED TO BE one of them. After coming here numerous times I noticed the quality of food significantly decline. Today's experience made me realize that there is no reason to come back. Our group ordered the Turkish salad with cheese appetizer. This is a simple dish with three main ingredients; cucumbers, tomatoes, and cheese. Salad came with no cheese. Main courses: Salmon - ok Baked Flounder with potatoes - burned potatoes and flavorless flounder. I had to listen to my grandma compare it to eating grass through the entire meal. Lamb kebab - the waiter asked me if I wanted medium and I asked for medium well. The waiter repeated "so you want medium?" and I said no, medium well please. The lamb came out rare. If I wanted raw meat I would of just bought it in Waldbaums. When the waiter came over and saw the uneaten bloody pieces he said, "that doesn't look medium well to me". No, I replied, it is not. To which the waiter said "you should have complained earlier." No concessions for the poorly prepared dish were offered, no free dessert, no taking it off the bill. For lunch that costs over $100 you can do much better elsewhere. read more

Love that place! Food is always delicious and fresh. Stuff is polite and attentive, but sometimes even too much (the lady checked on us about 8 times during our 1 hour dinner). But the funny thing was that when the waiter asked us what we would like to drink, I said tap water is fine. He looked at us with an attitude and still brought a 33oz. water bottle, regardless of other drinks that we have already ordered. Like seriously, did I come here to eat or drink? Liman, I been coming here for years. After visiting Turkey every Turkish restaurant in New York just seems to be ok, not sure if Liman would pull it in Istanbul. Service is Okish, most guys are very nice and are providing respectful service.
