The sandwich filling was tasty. Was a good blend of salty and spicy. I was given a choice and chose the Dutch bread but it was very stale. Other than that, it was a decent sandwich. The service was fast, considering there were about 6 people ahead of us. They had three people working efficiently.

My boyfriend and I had been craving a good sandwich and this definitely hit the spot! He ordered a meatball sub and I ordered The Speciale. First, these sandwiches are pretty big, so definitely come hungry. The bread was thick and soft, and I really liked my particular combination of meat, fresh mozzarella and briny olive / pepperoncini combination; the toppings felt proportional and the sandwich held together well (things weren't falling out and the bread didn't get soggy). I thought the prices were reasonable for what we got. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Lastly, we really enjoyed sitting outside on the sidewalk.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However, I'd definitely come back again to grab sandwiches to-go before heading to a nearby park or something!

3.5 stars Ah. The satisfaction of a great sandwich. Your choice of protein, mixed greens, a slather of mustard, hint of vinegar. Some crunchy banana peppers. Tomatoes. My grilled chicken breast hinted of a lemon peels and garlic. In a Dutch crunch was pretty good. I finish my sandwich because I was very hungry. I still can't believe the $18 price tag... My friend and I called for to go order. Their porchetta sandwich is also good! I do love what this little deli is trying to offer when its specialty items some of it are hard to find. I've spied my fave gourmet Potato chip brand here (hello Torres!) and I like that. For the hefty price tag, I was expecting a more stuffed Sammy.

Was exploring Union Square area when I found this cute, not-so-little Italian Deli-Mart I had 2 hours to kill before my dinner so dived in for a quick bite here. The menu had good selection of s'wiches, Pastas (pre-made) and some Salad. I went for their no.17 (Grilled Chicken sandwich). Came out fairly quick and was good though I wish it had a bit more flavor to it. It's a nice establishment of Italian food products - perfect if you're craving Italian & want to grab a quick meal.

food - ordered the milanese without cheese and balsamic vinegar. paid at the counter and sandwich was made fairly quickly! it felt like less than 5 minutes. sandwich came with LOTS of meat, they are not stingy! I don't think my bread was toasted but I wish it was by default (or maybe my fault for not mentioning it). Overall quality of meats were really good and flavorful. I saw that people claimed that Limoncello were serving up the best sandwiches in SF. I'm a sucker for a good sandwich, so I had to give it a try while I was up in the area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The shop is pretty cute. Has a nice Italian deli vibe to it. Cured meats and stuff hanging and all that good stuff.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I have to admit, the menu was a bit overwhelming, and some of the sandwiches seemed very similar in description. So, it was a bit of a challenge narrowing down what I wanted. That said, the sandwiches I tried ended up being quite good. The best I've ever eaten? Probably not, but the best I've had in SF? Quite possibly, yes. One downside was that they don't have sourdough bread as a sandwich roll option. Kind of a disappointment for a sandwich shop in the bay. Still, I'd definitely go out of my way to have it again. Highly recommend.

Came here to grab a quick lunch to go and ended up really liking this spot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space has small grocery section and a deli counter.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely the kind of place locals stop by regularly rather than a one time visit. I got the caprese sandwich but made it spicy. The bread was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. All the ingredients tasted fresh, and the spice added a ton without overwhelming the classic caprese flavors. Because it's part grocery store, the drink selection is way better than your typical place. The staff was also super friendly, they even gave my dog some meat! There's minimaI seating here, but I can easily see myself coming back here often for a quick to go meal.

Somewhat disappointed with the food here given the expectations/reviews. We got the Veneziano on Dutch crunch. I can tell the ingredients were fresh, but it wasn't anything special. I'm not sure what the hype is/was. If I wasn't in the area, I definitely wouldn't make a special trip to try it. Service was ok. It was kind of slow. It's located in an upscale deli/liquor/grocery store.

There are two doors to this shop: the door on the hill leads to the deli where you can order meats, sandwiches, and premade food. The bottom door leads to their dry goods area with olive oils, pastas, sauces, beverages, etc. I came in for a sandwich since I heard great things about it. I got the Milanese Sandwich. The pastrami was good and the havarti cheese was good. I wish it had more pesto spread. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I ate it at one of the bar like seating in the shop. Everything was perfect! Service was fast and friendly, [[HIGHLIGHT]]the store is clean[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], and my sandwich was filled with vibrant fresh veggies. It is the only place I have found a sandwich with eggplant, artichoke, and mushroom. The one change I would make, is to add cheese. It was delicious and I cant wait for another! Update: I went back for another and while it was still amazing, they left off the artichoke and I didn't realize until it was too late. . Hopefully it was a fluke.

I'm a sucker for sandwiches, but Limoncello is more of a 3.5-star spot for me now. I used to love it, but lately it just hasn't been hitting the same. I'm not sure if it's the flavor or what, but it's no longer my go-to sandwich shop. I ordered my usual Cuban, and the balsamic vinegar and mustard were a bit overpowering. The portions are definitely generous (as they should be for a ~$20 sandwich), but it's disappointing that it doesn't come toasted.

Two thumbs! Companion has been wanting to take me out for a deli sandwich for quite some time. He has his list of spots in the city, Limoncello being one of them. We were able to finally go and I was quite content! What's fun about Limoncello is that it operates as an Italian market and a deli. The shop is on the corner and decently sized, with narrower walkways for the market and open space for the deli. Highly recommend perusing around the store since there's a lot of cool Italian goods! We came for the food and walked up the steps to the deli. You can see all of their meat displayed along with a menu on the wall boasting their sandwiches, salads, and other dishes. For those who get food, they have counter seating plus a few tables outdoors. Service by the staff was friendly and efficient. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They're also dog-friendly inside, and the pup had fun sniffing around![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I honestly don't eat deli meat often or crave an Italian sandwich, so this was a treat! I got the Siciliano Sandwich, Dutch Crunch, No Cheese and Pepperoncini. Companion had the Goodfella, Dutch Crunch, No Pepperoncini. They mixed up our sandwiches and didn't label them correctly so it took us a while to figure it out. Once we did we dug in and it was so good! The quality and freshness of the meat and veggies were superb! My companion commented that they loaded the greens up compared to other times he'd been there. The sandwiches themselves are massive and I only ate half of mine, so it's great to save for later! Limoncello has a few locations in the city, the Sutter Street one being their original. Highly recommend coming here to try their sandwiches or just walking around the shop. Parking around here is limited to street parking only.

Limoncello is a lovely little neighborhood deli and Italian market. Their sandwiches are fabulous -- and HUGE! Easily could be two meals. Make sure to try the red pepper spread - it really kicks it up a notch. Very friendly staff, nice environment. Outdoor tables are a nice touch in good weather. They also have a great wine and limoncello selection, obviously. I can't recommend Limoncello enough! read more

Ordered food online. It was done quickly and exactly the way I requested. The food quality was excellent; I felt like my $11 sandwich was worth more than $11; the bread was fresh and tasty, the produce and meat were clearly quality. The customer service was also solid. The selection in the store portion also seemed solid, though I didn't browse extensively. read more

I literally just went there and ordered the Goodfella and added avocado. I even tipped 15%. I paid $16 for this and was sooo looking forward to eating it. I just had a baby and this was my first non hospital meal. Turns out that they gave me the wrong sandwich!! They gave me the Sicilian with pesto which is completely different! That means I completely overpaid since this sandwich was cheaper than what I had ordered. I'm too far to go back plus I am starving. I don't need this stress right now after being in the hospital for over 2.5 weeks. I won't be going back sadly. So upsetting. read more

My favorite sandwich place since i moved up here, Limoncello is amazing! The store has high-quality imported Italian foods, and the sandwiches are to die for. My personal favorites are the Cuban and the Goodfella, but the salads are legit as well. On a personal note, the owners are friendly and accommodating and the female owner is breathtakingly gorgeous. I'll be coming back often. read more

I feel really disappointed the store has good reviews, so I called and made order of three sandwiches and I told hem no bacon please but when I got home one of the sandwich was ham and the other two were not toasted and wrong order too. I'm probably the 100th person using these words- but the sandwiches here have been the best I've ever had in my life. I came across this place on UberEats- and 20 minutes after ordering, I had my sandwich in my hands. 10 minutes after that-- I was ordering another one for my friend! I really want to try the other stuff and would definitely be giving the place a visit. Had the Petto di Pollo the first time, and Siciliano the second time-- both were amazing! It's always been a great experience at this deli. The owner is extremely nice with a smile on his face very genuine guy! Maybe the best sandwich shop in all of San Francisco. We just love that Limoncello has come to our neighborhood! Chris and Rosita provide great service and a wonderful environment. Stumbled upon this gem one night on my way back to my apartment and has since become one of my favorite sandwich spots in SF. It's always nice finding a family owned spot in the neighborhood. The owner, Chris, is extremely charismatic and remembers you after the first visit! :) The portions are HUGE and oh so flavorful. I've tried about 6 sandwiches now and not a single one disappoints. Not only are there a ton of sandwiches, but there are lots of delicious wines, cheeses, and misc. Italian goodies. read more

Just WOW! Limoncello falls nothing short of perfect. You will find great quality Italian sandwiches here. I ordered the Mafioso and the boyfie ordered the Milanese. They were different, but both SO good. I may have liked his more. The meat quality is superb here. You can really taste the fineness in each bite. I think European sandwiches are different from American sandwiches because American sandwiches are always drenched in whatever sauces to almost make the sandwich. European sandwiches are very simple. I think some can find it dry, but if you appreciate the meat and cheese quality, it totally makes up for it. There's also a lot of different snacks to please your eyes with while waiting for the sandwiches. We ended up buying some butter w/ truffles and cheese which both turned out to be drool worthy. Only about 5 or so, 2 top tables outsides. I'd recommend taking your food to-go to Lafayette park nearby and call it a perfect day :) read more

Best sandwiches in San Francisco - I love the Caprese and Siciliano. I have been enjoying the sandwiches from Limoncello for a couple of years now, and it never disappoints. On top of the sandwiches, the owner (Chris), is fantastic. He makes his food with love and is incredibly friendly and hospitable. One evening, I placed a Limoncello order to be delivered through Grubhub. Grubhub kept delaying the order pickup for 2 hours until finally Limoncello was closing for the day, so Grubhub cancelled the delivery. Chris called me saying he would wait to leave the store until I got my sandwich - even offering to drop it off. Now THAT is great customer service!!! read more

I live a few blocks away, but I'd cross the entire town to come here if I had to. Consistently on lists of the best sandwich shops in SF for good reason, Limincello is just spectacular at what they do. The Milanese is my favorite, but all of the sandwiches are top notch. To boot, the sandwiches are massive so I either get two meals out of one sandwich, or can share with my fiancé which means it's a great value as well. There's really not much more to say--you should already be on your way there by this point. read more

Quality, quality and quality. One of the best sandwich spots in San Francisco Bay area. The attention to details is something that separates this place from any other spot. I'll just name a few: quality and freshness of the bread, freshly slices of meat, quality of the deli meats, quantity of the meat on their sandwiches (it's a BIG sandwich), quality olive oil on each side of the bread, their amazing hot sauce and ... Great new neighborhood store and sandwich spot. Chris let me try the salami and prosciutto as he made my sandwich. I was staring at the menu being super indecisive and he just made me something custom! It is delicious. His wife also recommend some pasta and sauce that I ended up purchasing. What a great store! I went in for the sandwich but I was also very surprised by the variety of Italian snacks and specialty items at very reasonable prices. I'm looking forward to going back and getting some pasta and spreads. My Goodfella sandwich was fresh and delicious. The tomatoes and basil were very fresh and you get plenty of good quality meat. The prosciutto was sooooo good. Chris (the owner) was extremely friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend this shop. read more

Alex and Cris are the dynamic duo who run this cafe/ deli/ wine store/ and Italian Grocery. You won't find a more charismatic, hardworking team. The store is packed with every type of pasta, sauces, cold cuts, you can imagine. Their lasagna, fresh meatballs, are the staples, including freshly made sandwiches. We are recent transplants in SF and this place makes it easier to get a quick lunch, dinner, bottle of wine with great conversation in between. read more

Recommended by my friend so went there on a sunday morning and it instantly became my fav sandwich spot in the city. Owner (chris) is a super nice guy who took the time to chat with us and accomodate me changing my sandwich choice 3 times after he started making them.. he even threw in a fresh chocolate pastry for free. Food tasted amazing (ended up going for the cuban sandwich), coffee was tasty and store is nicely set up. Five stars. read more

The best sandwiches I've had in San Francisco hands-down. These 5 star reviews aren't inflated-- you have to try it for yourself. The cured meats, cheese, bread and veggies are fresh and delicious. Chris is amazing, friendly, and truly cares about your experience in his deli. Also, he has a robust selection of imported Italian goods from sodas to sweets to olive oils. This has become my go-to neighborhood spot for a quick bite that never disappoints. I hope our local community can support this gem of a deli-- check it out! It's a must! read more

I've been to a few five star sandwich shops in San Fransico and this one beats them all. The store is bright, inviting and the shop is very nice with all sorts of great imported Italian food, wine, beer, and snacks. The deli has a great assortment of Italian staples and I had to try a little bit of everything. Chris made my sandwich quickly and with care. He was very friendly and offered tips and great service. This place rocks. Huge selection of quality wine and liquor. Large refrigeration section with cold beer and other non-alcoholic drinks. The grocery section is filled with quality Italian products (olive oils, tomatoes, artisan pastas, spices, sweets, etc.). The hot and prepared section is equally impressive. Popped in after getting my nails done at Silk. Fell in love! It's super clean, the owners are so nice and welcoming and the Toscano sandwich was deliciously piled with meat and tasty bits! I perused the aisles while my sandwich was being prepared and discovered so many gourmet, reasonably priced Italian goodies. I wish I lived closer! I have nothing but good things to say about their retail business. They have lots of rare and…read moreharder-to-find wines. They are a great retailer, very knowledgeable of wines old world and new. They have a fantastic selection. My issue is with their auction business, which I think they have very little they can do about it as they are taking the word of the sellers that the bottles have been properly cellared. Multiple Aubert Chardonnays (2014-2017) bottlings, top end, have been clearly past their prime despite being in the start of the prime drinking window, and one bottle that was very tired. So it seems to be less of the "rare bad bottle" problem and more of a systemic issue with some of their sellers. I'll change this review if other such start-of-the-prime-drinking-window bottles through K&L prove to show they are drinking well and increase the ratio of good to bad items. I have a lot more of these bottles to test. Edit: may 2026 - a few more Aubert Chardonnay's going back to a 2018 Eastside were opened and we're all spectacular, crisp and peaked. Our stats are much better now on the aging of chards through the auction. Changing to 5 stars.

They put more effort into groceries than most - there's a variety of brands and quality for the products they do stock(sauces, snacks, bread, kitchen staples) - and often the prices are better than the grocery across 3rd street. There's even a little bit of basic produce (onions, lemons). Household products (otc medication, toilet paper and the like) can be a little pricey. The booze is priced fairly. There's an impressive variety of liquor, wine, sake, beer (loads of IPAs), and even a few sour beers. The staff is always friendly, very chipper and energetic. The location is clean, and not dank and depressing like a lot of the corner stores out there.

As soon as I stepped outside, I could hear staff speaking about me. When I responded, the situation escalated quickly. Two individuals approached me and began yelling aggressively, repeatedly calling me a "thief" and using other hostile language, despite the fact that I had not taken anything. One individual came very close to my face and pointed at me, while the second moved toward me and my dog in a way that felt threatening. During the interaction, my business card was thrown to the ground and kicked toward the curb. The situation became intense enough that I experienced a physical stress response and had to call 911. Emergency services responded, and the incident is documented with a police CAD report. I also have video of the interaction. After emergency services arrived, the individuals returned inside and closed the store shutters. This experience felt completely disproportionate to the situation. Based on this interaction, I would not feel comfortable returning.

I was at Limoncello a few weeks ago with my brother, when we were on holiday in San Francisco. This place is amazing! The owner and his wife are the nicest, kindest people you can imagine. They are so friendly and warm-hearted! The owner made us beautiful and delicious sandwiches which made us feel like we were on holiday in Italy. The sandwiches were packed with a variety of high quality cold-cuts and vegetables, so yummy :-) there is also a big selection of excellent pastries and Italian biscuits. I recently walked into Limoncello, hoping to enjoy a nice cup of coffee and perhaps a bite to eat. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. Despite there being both cooks and a server present, neither acknowledged me, let alone offered any assistance. I waited for some time, but their lack of attention left me feeling unwelcome. Sandwiches are okay. Nothing mindblowing. They deliver late night and I crave Italian sandwiches frequently, so I ordered delivery from here a couple times. Won't be making that mistake again. Last time I ordered, ETA was 30/40 min. Food arrived 90 min later. I live 6 minutes away.. I had food poisoning for 5/6 days after eating their sandwich. Odd because everyone raves about how fresh the ingredients are. Won't be ordering from here again. There are way too many quality Italian sandwich joints in SF for me to risk food poisoning. Hell, I've eaten Subway all my life and never got food poisoning. read more

Tried the Petto di Pollo and the Sicilian sandwiches for lunch. I was very excited to try Limoncello's because I came by a few weeks ago (unfortunately, after I had eaten) and was intrigued by the menu. The sandwiches did not disappoint me. I liked the Petto di Pollo but would get it a little more spicy next time. I chose the regular because I was sharing. The Sicilian was a tasty sandwich with lots of Italian meat. The bread was a little harder on this sandwich compared to the Petto di Pollo. Overall, rating the five ! Can't wait to come back again for more delicious sandwiches! read more

Amazing! What a great place! The food was excellent and the owners were really sweet. We went for lunch after an appointment at the Spanish Consulate (across the street.) My daughter got the lasagna; my wife the Caprese (the owner recommended adding avocado; my wife loved it); my son got a hotdog (he's the least adventurous of us), and I got the Toscana. Super fresh meats and bread. And big! I only ate half and saved the rest for dinner. Oh, and I got a cannoli (ok, fine; I only ate half so I'd have enough room for that.) Well worth it. read more

This place is an incredible addition to the neighborhood! I live and work here and it has become a weekly indulgence. You are greeted like an old friend when you enter. It is great for vegetarians, the Roasted Vegetable sandwich is one of the best I've had - super fresh veggies and pesto! My boyfriend loves the Goodfella sandwich, and I've just been introduced to their Quinoa Salad - which is DELICIOUS and will be another go-to order for lunch. It has corn, onion tomato, goat cheese, chickpeas...Cannolis are also a super yummy treat. read more

One of the great sandwich shops in the city. Super fresh ingredients and a great selection, you'll be hard pressed to find a better place. I have friends who drive for miles to come to this place. If you're in the City, it's a must visit. If you check out there reviews, you'll see a lot of 5 star reviews, that should tell you something (some of the lower reviews? "no one greeted me." These people should not be on yelp) Only complaint is it is expensive but it's the City. Everything's expensive. Good food though. read more

Very friendly and have fresh good tasting sandwiches. They also serve wine, beer and other drinks. There's a market inside the place. it has limited to no indoor seating but has 6 outdoor seating on the sidewalk. Their Specielle Sandwich with prosciutto was good and sour dough tasted fresh. They have lots of wine and alcohol choices along with other items for a small market Street venue. Overall it was a pleasant experience and we saw lots of people coming in and out with orders. It's clearly a staple in the area. read more

Delicious sandwiches, a great selection of cured meats, and enough sweet treats to make even the sweetest tooth need a break. A great spot to find a specialty ingredient for a home made Italian meal, or to pick up a warm, premade comfort meal after a long day. The owner is a really nice guy. We got three sandwiches from their deli and they all tasted great. Try them for sure! The store itself also have a great vibe to it :) We will be visiting again without a doubt. read more

I recently visited Limoncello, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish! I recently visited Limoncello in San Francisco and tried the Mafioso sandwich. The flavors were on point and I enjoyed every bite, although the bread was slightly chewy. However, what truly stood out was the owner's assistance and kindness. He was super sweet and made the visit even more enjoyable. Wow, only 9 reviews that show up in the Yelp search and 354 reviews that Yelp took down and marked as "not currently recommended". Yelp is not even displaying my Yelp reviews for this business and I used to be Yelp Elite. The sandwiches here are still good and I would definitely recommend....but it looks like they had a lot of fake reviewers with only 1 or 2 reviews. The business probably also decided to not pay the Yelp extortion fees. read more

Each dish we ordered--from starter to entree--was absolutely fantastic. Rustic Canyon showcases fresh, seasonal ingredients by marrying global flavors with adept execution. From a pozole with mussels to sunchokes with romesco, our palates were taken on an adventure to several continents right in my local neighborhood.
