What a nice place!!!! Good beer, nice bartenders, good links and who doesn't love a soft pretzel with nacho cheese dipping sauce??

Saw this place on Yelp and we gave it a try. This review is for food only, as I was driving and Wifey does not drink beer. The place itself is great, lots of cool decor and an awesome bar. The bartender/server was great too, explaining how the ordering worked and what he recommended. I tried the Sausage Platter and their giant Pretzel. Wifey had the Smoked Pork with cheese. Three stars for the service and atmosphere, but that's it. The Sausages on the platter I tried was bland and a bit flavorless. I did not finish. Wifey's Smoked Pork dog with Cheese was good though, if we come back, that's what I'd order. read more

Yes! Something I love seeing in Atwater, a more hip and pub-like joint :). So their beer is really pricey and my hefe cost more than my hot link! But that aside, I was happily impressed with the quality of the food, music & "attitude" (the servers totally have this blasé look about them, which I'm not sure if it's kind of offputting or swaggy, I'll go with the latter) . My beau had the duck and bacon brat and I polished off the hot italian link. You pick 2 toppings and I got the peppers and grilled onions. A perfect combo. Total damage w/ 2 beers and a small belgian frite = bum.bum.bum... {$50 + tip} I mean, I know these brats are fancy and have exotic meats in them, but c'mon. This is Atwater village, and the price markup is a little too steep. I commend them for a great execution and ambition to live up to the hipster/downtown vibe of Wurstkuche. Now please work on pricing strategy or an awesome happy hour! read more

This place is great! We went for the first time today. I'm vegan, my partner is not. We both got a platter (and definitely took a bunch home) he got the mixed, but substituted the Italian for a kielbasa (which ended up being his fav). I got the vegan platter. My fav was a tie between the spicy pepper & Italian. The fries are incredible. Didn't even have to tell them to cook them well. We actually forgot and they were perfect! I'm not a beer person and he doesn't drink so I can't comment. Nice little patio outside with a tv in the window! We will definitely go back! The waiter was very nice too! Wish we caught his name! This might sound a bit crass, but I've always appreciated Link N Hops for exactly what it is: an unremarkable, albeit convenient alternative to Wurstkuche. The food & drinks are pretty good, but hardly exceptional; and the service is sub-par at best. Yet as a long-time and somewhat regular customer, I suppose I've been a walking example of convenience trumping quality. In the latest battle between my desire for instant gratification (and laziness) vs. wanting to have a, you know, enjoyable dining experience, I stopped into LNH to grab some food for take-out. Having placed an order for the vegan smoked apple sausage topped with sauteed onions & spicy mixed pickles and an order of fries and plum bbq dipping sauce, I immediately began patting myself on the back for a smart decision in venue. Driving all the way to Little Tokyo is for suckers, as is looking for parking, waiting in line, eating their delicious food, and enoying the pleasant ambiance of their restaurant. Right? Sadly, when I got home with my food, I opened the bag and found... three sausages (non vegetarian) sitting on a handful of fries, no bun, and some sauerkraut. BUT AT LEAST THEY GOT THE SPICY MIXED PICKLES RIGHT, EH? Granted, it was foolish not to check my order before leaving with my take-out food. But this was the second time in a row that Link N Hops has botched my order, and it just seems like they're barely even trying at this point. As per the growing trend in hip food, Link n Hops has popped up serving among other things, sausages and beer. They actually have a couple of vegetarian options, which I was quite surprised about, especially since they do not seem to be soy based, though this information could simply have been omitted from the menu. I had the eggplant and something or other sausage, which was pretty good, especially with some curry-ketchup on it. Inside you will find a bar like atmosphere with music served too loud, TVs on, and probably quite a crowd. If you want to spend about $10 on a sausage and $6-$9 on a beer, this is your joint. I actually like the place a lot, and have been there a couple of times. The only things I do not like about it are the prices and the loud music. I do however like the fact that there is some outdoor seating to escape the music. read more

I went there for lunch. If you like sausages and Belgium Fries this is a place to go. I had the smoked pork with cheese and went back for a second one. I had the Belgium fries with the spicey ketchup and wanted more of those as well. It definitely isn't health food but it was very good. Came late on a work night and they had live music, cool! I love their beer selection, the layout was a little confusing, newbie here, I went to the pick up counter and tried to order, oops. The order counter looked like a regular bar and the sign "order here" was covered by the crowd of guests listening to the performers. The girl who took my order was real nice and helpful. Small complaint is they don't have regular bottled water, but fancy glass bottled water from I don't know where, should have bought a beer but I was thirsty and it was a take away order (I needed to drive - don't drink and drive) I will come back now that I know where to order, what not to order, and to try out their beers! They do have a TV screen for sports or whatever, it's a small ish place, very hipster vibe which translates to $$$ read more

This was our 2nd time at Link N Hops but our 1st time eating here. The 1st time here was for a beer event. What's really cool about this spot is that it's 2 blocks from our friends' house. We parked at their house and walked over for dinner. As we walked there, they said that it was their 1st time there. As we walk in we're greeted by the owner and Randy gets a handshake and a how've you been. I raise an eyebrow..."I thought you said that you'd never been here." Turns out that they were neighbors and he also owns the 55 Wine next door. I'll get to that one later. Anyhoo, we were given the menu for food and drinks but with the lighting inside and my eyesight going, we all decided to take the menu to the outside table to review. It looked like we were all studying for a test. We placed our order at the counter and returned outside with our beers and our #s. I had the Duck & Bacon w/ Jalapeño & an Odessey from Allagash a Belgian Strong Ale and a large order of fries to share. I don't remember what my husband or friends ordered but everyone was happy. I had been wanting to check this place out for a while and it finally happened and it was worth the wait. It's on my way home from Dodger Stadium, but even if you're not coming this way, it's still pretty close. Parking was easy to find (we went on a weekend for post dinner drinks). Place wasn't so crowded that we couldn't find a table right away. Their beer menu was pretty extensive. I'm allergic to pork which was a bummer because most of their links are pork, but they had a few options under their "exotic" menu. I tried the rattlesnake and rabbit link and the duck with bacon. It's hard to pick a favorite, they were both so juicy and delicious and bursting with flavor. The staff working their that night was also really awesome. We had a veggie platter and salad, which comes with the Belgian fries, which are just fucking lovely. I'd recommend the Hawaiian plum sauce and curry ketchup as sauces. If you like sports, they show those on screens, but thankfully you can still hear yourself speak if you don't give a crap. Finally, it's hard to find. Look for the Starbucks parking lot. It was really outstanding. The rest of our party ate more traditional hot dogs. All well prepared; the side orders of fries were plentiful and hot. Drink selections varied from beer and wine to water. Seating was plentiful on a Sunday evening. The service was friendly and excellent, although a little slow on the delivery time due to one or two large call-in orders. It's worth the wait, however. Had an offer for a free Knackwurst so came in with my bf to watch the Lakers game and grab a bite. The Knackwurst was HUGE and quite delicious. Love that it comes with two free toppings. They cook their vegan dogs in the same area as the regular ones. What's the point of having them if you're just going to have them soak up the meat juices and oils anyway? Their fries are amazing though; they're both soft and crispy! The pretzel was decent.. can be a little too salty at times, but that's easily fixed by just wiping the excess off. I've seen Link N Hops in passing various times but for some reason, I've never actually checked it out until recently. It is located in the same strip mall area as Starbucks. Parking spots are limited in this plaza due to the couple businesses that share the same parking lot. Your best bet would be to park in the neighborhood; it's usually what I do when I go to Proof Bakery or Dune, both located on the same street. My guy and I met up in Atwater Village for a quick little midweek lunch/coffee date and decided to try Link N Hops on a whim. It was around 1pm so the place wasn't busy. Plenty of seating inside as well as some tables out in the patio area. I noticed that you get a free small order of Belgian Fries upon Yelp check in. Score! Best part is that it comes with your choice of sauce as well and if you know me, you know I LOVE my condiments/sauces. All sausages come with two toppings. Ooh and more importantly, props to Link N Hops for having quite an array of vegan sausages. They had 5 different kinds. Became quite indecisive for a bit but ultimately went with the Vegan Beerbrat (organic tofu, ale, onion, spices) topped with sauerkraut and jalapeño peppers. Not going to lie though, the Tofurky Kielbasa sounded enticing too. All the more reason to go back here, yeah? The Vegan Beerbrat was delish especially with that whole grain mustard. Brought back memories of Germany-- grabbing a quick bratwurst at the train station from time to time and/or sharing a meal with my Hungarian flatmate who liked sausages and LOVED whole grain mustard. She legit gets excited about it. In fact, I think living with her made me love mustard even more but I digress. The free small order of fries they give you is a good amount too but Wurstküche's fries top theirs hands down. Tried both the Chipotle Aioli and Spicy Hawaiian Plum BBQ sauces. Laid back craft beer pub with an impressive selection vegan food. Their extensive beer list is interesting and reasonably priced, and the food is delicious. I really enjoyed my vegan kielbasa, which is served on a fresh bun with two toppings of your choice. I recommend jalapeños and sauerkraut-great combination. Definitely overpriced ($7.95) for a tofurkey dog, but I was happy to pay it for a solid vegan option. The Belgian fries were also delicious, especially with the spicy ketchup. It's as if you stepped into a parallel universe version of Wurstkuche. Maybe that or the whole charge $8 for a sausage business model is one that is easy to follow and very profitable. But here we are, this is like Wurstkuche-lite. It's somewhat less impressive cousin. The Bo Bridges movie when you sort of wanted to see Jeff in the role. But hey, it'll do, right. Where Wurstkuche focuses on imported beers that you'll probably have a problem pronouncing, let alone understanding what it taste like, Link N Hops' beer is more catered to the local and American brewed Craft Beers. I'm sure many folks who walk in think the same thing "Why am I going to pay the same price for something in a 'snifter'?", Well it's a much stronger beer, folks. That's why. Don't always assume that a bigger amount will get you drunk faster. So on that factor, I really liked Links N Hops. What doesn't please me is that half of the sausages here really feel like something on the description is missing from the inner casing. I got a Rattlesnake, Rabbit and Jalapeno sausage - gee, where have I had that type of exotic sausage before?! -- in any case, I didn't get any of the spice kick from it at all. Now I'm not saying their sausages are bad. By no means. They're tasty, but just seems like they're following the trend and not adding much to it other than localism and an excuse not to go to downtown. You're basically paying the same price and not dealing with too much of a crowd. But what you lack in a crowd, you make up in shitty parking. That's the issue. You're going to have to do some walking to get to this spot as it's god awful in terms of parking available to you. There's a few spots in the parking in front of it and those get eaten up quickly. The meters down the block are there, but be careful, this area has high ticket trigger happy meter maids. Over all, it's a pretty good spot. You get the same sort of "hip" ambiances, sausage and beer as you would going to the other carbon copies of this business model. And hey, at least 55 Degrees is next door (I believe the same owners as this place), so you can get your craft beer and wine fixation while getting a little sausage in ya'. read more

I was lucky enough to try the kangaroo andouille, duck/bacon, lamb merguez, wild boar, and kolbasa... perks of eating with a big family. We picked up our order and drove it home as quickly as possible, then discovered the drinks we paid for weren't included. Something possessed me to call back and ask if they would deliver them, since they do deliver. And they did. Now that deserves an extra star. They drove through Dodgers traffic to deliver our overlooked drinks. So, the sausages. Each was different, some were juicier than others, I wished we'd gotten different toppings than just grilled onions and peppers on all of them, but we did that so we could really taste the flavors of the exotic meats. I think the best, due to a nice spiciness and a juicy snap (and the fact that it was my first time consuming kangaroo), was the kangaroo andouille. I did wish there was something to moisten the buns - some kind of condiment. The buns were big and pillowy - at least challah-like if not actually challah. They overwhelmed every single sausage and made it seem dry even when it wasn't. Even though I can't say for sure, since I didn't get the platter, getting the platter may be the way to go. That way you can savor the flavors of all these strange animals without overwhelming it with bread. read more

If you're craving some beer and sausage on the eastside, Link N Hops is your destination. It's like an Atwater Village strip mall Wurstkuche, with less hassle and a smaller, cozier interior. I've been twice, once for a quick dog-friendly dinner and once for the Wednesday night trivia. I really enjoy the place. There isn't much to eat if you're not into sausages (though there are several non-meat sausage options for the vegan crowd), but I think there's plenty of room in this town for sausage-specific gastropubs. Link N Hops is in the same strip mall as 55 Degree Wine, and I think it's operated by the same owners. Similar aesthetic--though more casual than the wine store's cellar--and focus on quality booze. It has a nice, comfortable interior set up with a bar, lots of tables, and TVs for you sports watchers (and everyone last Wednesday, when trivia was largely ignored in favor of Kobe's last game). The patio is pleasant too, and easy to hang out on with a basset. Service is easy and informal. You order everything at the bar and take a number. Once you have a seat, servers come by to take additional drink orders, which is nice. The draft list is extensive and well curated, written in chalk on a massive board on one wall. I don't remember what I got on my first visit, but last week I had the Tap It IPA while Matt B. got the Mission Brewery Shipwrecked IPA. Both excellent, and great with the pub fare. The food really hits the spot. I first came to Link N Hops because I was trying to determine where to get the best fries in L.A. (an impossible project, it turns out), and these Belgian fries would definitely make my short list. They're crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and beautifully seasoned to boot. They come with a choice of dipping sauces--I think they taste extra good with the curry ketchup. The Munich-style pretzel is another great bonus for your sausage meal, warm and freshly chewy, great with some cheese sauce. And of course, the sausages are fantastic, served on toasted bolillo buns (Mexican baguettes/fancy hot dog buns) with two toppings of your choice. They're snappy and rich with flavor, and pretty filling with the bread, which is substantial enough to stand up to some meaty sausage and piled-on toppings and condiments. I can eat two, but one is probably enough for a reasonable meal. I don't remember which sausage I picked on my first visit, but I definitely liked it (I have a feeling it was the Louisiana hot link but can't swear to it). Last week, I had the smoked chicken and mango with jalapeño, topped with sauerkraut and sweet peppers, and the duck and bacon, topped with spicy pickle mix and jalapeño. The chicken sausage was savory and delicious in a way I don't always expect from chicken sausage. It was flavored with sugar, cilantro, and paprika, and it went really well with the abundant sweet peppers. The duck and bacon was super hot, probably because I put hot jalapeño on top of the sausage, which was already flavored with jalapeño. It was at the very border between enjoyable and painful, where it was super enjoyable but my head was kind of throbbing. The trivia was fun, too, though I didn't like the format as much as the other trivia nights I've been going to around the eastside. I'll probably go back, but only because this trivia night comes with sausages and craft beer--or rather, because I just really like Link N Hops. read more

The golf ball in the glass is entertaining if you happen to sit at the bar area (I couldn't accomplish this feat! -feel like a failure, lol). Next time!! They had several vegan hot dogs to choose from which was awesome and they have wild boar, rabbit, alligator, rattle snack ...you name it for you animal lovers. So much energy put into totally ganking Wurstkuche (the furniture, the table cards, the long menu on brown paper etc) -they forgot to replicate Wurstkuche's amazing food and service. Did I mention Wurstkuche? We live in the neighborhood, so we checked it out. We walked in the door, and literally stopped in our tracks from shock. I have never, firsthand seen such a blatant, lazy copy by one business of another. It's gross. It's wrong. I can't support this place, but not just for that reason alone: The food and service were really bad. When we walked in, it wasn't clear which way we were to go to order. No one greeted us, no one said "we can help you over here." * Bland food, fluffy, tasteless rolls, "specialty sauces" taste like Heinz ketchup with curry powder. * Unfriendly and unprofessional service. Food delivered to our table without a word, no smile, no "here you go", nothing. Not a word. * Two giant flatscreen TVs with the games on. (So, it's a sports bar?) * Mostly American beers. I saw one Belgian beer on the list. $9 for a Hefeweizen? * Cheap decor trying to look like Wurstkuche, but has bad stenciling everywhere, blue lights, and a wraparound photo mural of the Hyperion bridge. Felt like a dorm room on steroids. * Instead of a DJ, it seems the bartender's personal Spotify playlist is on. CCR followed by Siouxsie and the Banshees anyone? * Mostly empty at 8:30pm on a Saturday. What we most couldn't believe was that the manager was taking up a corner booth all to himself to eat takeout from a styrofoam clamshell and use his laptop. Most of the staff ended up migrating to this booth and hanging out. If I were the owners of Wurstkuche, I'd be PISSED. They copied the menu, and the restaurant in nearly every detail. Fortunately for Wurstkuche: Link N Hops hasn't done a good job of it. They don't get what makes Wurstkuche good, truly unique and original. My soul (and my stomach) won't ever allow me back to this place. I can't believe there are multiple reviews on here applauding them for copying Wurstkuche. Do I judge you for patronizing them? Yes! After nerdgasming the night away at the nearby Griffith Observatory, what better way than to end the mcnerdy pants night with a sausage fest bcs c'mon...why stop at just a nerdgasm? ;p The only place that was open that late and was not fast food was Link N Hops, which was just a hop, skip, and a jump away, in a little strip mall. This place has quite the selection of exotic meats for your exotic eats pleasure! I opted for the Duck, bacon, and jalapeno topped with caramelized onions and bell peppers and adventure buddy opted for a more exotic, manly option and went for the Elk complete with sauerkraut and grilled onions. I like my sausages the way I like my "sausages" - meaty, juicy, and fulfilling! Fortunately, both sausages hit the bulls eye and simply oozed all sorts of yummy, juicy goodness: thick and lengthy sausages with perfect bite on the outside from the char and sausage casings; juicy, flavorful, tender sausage on the inside; crunchy sauteed peppers; sweet caramelized onions, and not-overly-sauer-sauerkraut. The bolillo bun was the perfect vessel for the funky sausage combos embedded between them - soft and warm, but also sturdy enough to not get lost and soggy from the sausage and toppings. **Take note Lee's Sandwiches! Despite being a direct RIP of Wurstkuche, it's pretty solid. The rolls are much better than the ones they used when first opened. Beers- a lil pricey - $9 for some pints?! No Hefe is worth $9. Loco, even for a beer bar especially when it's not something rare or exotic. The cooks / grillers seem to enjoy there night and do a fine job cranking out the basics. BUT the bar staff are the most miserable, depressing lot I've seen in a while. No smiles to be had. At all. They suck the life out of the whole joint. Out of all life everywhere. Let's get to the point. Food: The sausages were ok.Ive had better. The fries and dipping sauce were delicious!I loved the spicy ketchup and the thick cut fries. Atmosphere: it was empty inside and the music was very random. However,this place could have gotten three stars,but the reason I gave it two stars is because of the BAD SERVICE.When our order was taken the scrawny white guy was very unhelpful,had no energy,and was very sassy.He was nice to us towards the end,probably because we were leaving. Came here at night and IT WAS AWESOME. The service is hybrid so you grab a menu and order at the front. If you sit barside a bartender can take your order. I love the cheese sausage. The beer is good and I like the vibe. BUT THEN A COUPLE WEEKS AFTER...I met up with a friend at the bar so she could watch the game. I don't know if it was because it was the morning or something but the bartender on shift was really rude. She disrespected me and inserted herself when I was joking with my friend. Talking about if I was with her. There were 3 people including me sitting there. Of fucking course I was. The service minimally was there but she was obviously checked out. I can tell she was trying to be nice but honestly it was all off-putting. Her attitude towards me was a stark contrast to when other male patrons came in to watch football. Wow, sorry I'm not a regular. Sorry I'm not a male. I don't know if she had issues with females or she doesn't feel like females don't tip (I tip 20%) as well as guys do or if I didn't care that football was on or whatever. (I know the all the rules of football by the way) but I did want to have food and beer and see my friend. The food was inconsistent because the previous time it was all good and this time the food wasn't. Fries were overcooked, toppings were just in excess and shalacked on. (C'mon, does anyone want a whole cup of onions?!) This happened a few weeks ago but for some reason I'm still completely bothered. I'm never coming back. I used to be a server. I was also a line cook. I know how everyone should get treated whether it's a busy shift or not. I know that the first plate all the way up to the last plate needs to be good.
