I had the rattlesnake & rabbit sausage with white wine ($9.75). I washed it down with a Matilda Belgian Ale. I was happy they offer such exotic fare with a good craft beer selection, but the truth is - I didn't like the taste. Also, I felt the onions and cheese were kind of sparse (it was only ON TOP not on the sides). I had to try EACH of the three mustards offered (regular, honey mustard in the flat top bottle, and stone ground dijon) to give it some flavor. There is a golf-ball in a snow-globe puzzle at the bar, I seriously *tried* for 15 mins I could not get it. And I love puzzle games like chinese finger traps, twisty interlocked metal rings, and flip-cups on a string. But the snow-globe elluded me. The soundtrack was good - tom petty, weezer, johnny cash, and red hot chili peppers playing while I was there. The sign said $2 off beers for happy hour between 5-7pm, but I did the math, I think the bartender forgot my discount. Combine that with the rain and only five other patrons, not sure I'd come back. I was really excited to check this place out, all the reviews seemed good, the menu looked appealing (especially since I have a vegan friend), and the craft brews seemed winning. I was extremely disappointed. I went with a group of friends, and every single one of our links was burnt on the outside. The meat on the inside was good, but the outside was crispy. But I will NEVER return because the waitress/bartender was beyond rude. My friend ordered a cider, and got an ale. The ale was skunky-- we all tested it. When she went up the woman refused to replace it. I then went up on my friends behalf thinking she hadn't explained the situation properly. The bartender refused to try the skunky beer and basically told me I didn't know anything about beer and that it was perfectly fine. To say I was pissed was an understatement. First-- if a customer is complaining about their beer, maybe investigate, check the tap yourself, see what's going on instead of insulting them and trying to womansplain what a beer should taste like. Second-- just replace the beer. It costs a lot less than all the ill will you just spread around, and the future custom you might have gotten but definitely won't get now. Friendly service.Great food. GREAT late night happy hour. This is embarrassing but after we initially ordered I continued ordering more and more it was so delicious. The fries (add blue cheese is a must) you really can't go wrong with the sauces they are all awesome but it depends on your taste. The bartender was so friendly (without going over the top) I also noticed that he was equally nice and friendly to those coming in later (11:15pm when HH ended at 11:30) so many places in LA the staff will ice you out. He was so welcoming! Really cool spot. I don't watch sports but they had at least 5 TV's with games on. I would imagine it would be a great place to catch a game. Furniture choice is certainly similar in that there are smaller tables at the sides and a big benched table in the middle. I also like the simple outdoor patio set up and Link N Hops isolates them well even though the adjacent "too-close" parking lot seems to add the smell of gas in the air, if one chooses to idle too long. -=-Parking-=- is atrocious. A small lot is shared with 4 other thriving businesses, one of which is Starbucks. There is metered public parking, but who likes dealing with those really. I took my motorcycle here, but there wasn't even a nook or cranny to stuff it in. -=-Food-=- The majority of the offerings here are hot dogs and french fries. The bread was soft at least and the Duck Sausage had a good spice to it and was tasty going down. I'd call it half-exotic, since it's no rattlesnake or rabbit meat. The fries were a disappointment though. I ordered a large size to share, but it looked like it was barely enough to feed myself. If this is a large size, I really wonder what a small size would be. Our food took about 20 minutes so I wouldn't recommend this place if you are on a time crunch. As many reviews note, Link N Hops is pretty much like Wurstkuche in Atwater Village. Gourmet sausages (vegan and not) and beers in a casual gastro-pubby like atmosphere (seating inside and outside: booths and communal seating). I unfortunately thought that their "burger" was a burger...it is not. Instead it is a burger patty on a hot dog bun. I do not recommend because part of a satisfying burger is getting all elements in 1 bite - which was extremely difficult in a hot dog bun form. Their sausages fared better (one would hope): bf got the lamb one and that was pretty good. Our friend got one of their spicy sausages and proclaimed it to be extremely spicy. The jalapenos with seeds didn't help. Their fries were pretty good too. Oh yeah, portions aren't terribly big so if you are a big eater, you'll probably need to supplement with another sausage or fries. Parking: a pain. Saw this place on Yelp and we gave it a try. This review is for food only, as I was driving and Wifey does not drink beer. The place itself is great, lots of cool decor and an awesome bar. The bartender/server was great too, explaining how the ordering worked and what he recommended. I tried the Sausage Platter and their giant Pretzel. Wifey had the Smoked Pork with cheese. Three stars for the service and atmosphere, but that's it. The Sausages on the platter I tried was bland and a bit flavorless. I did not finish. It actually tasted better without the hot dog bun. The bread is thicker than the usual hot dog bun, so it seemed to mask the flavor of the sausage. I also had the Grapefruit Cider, which was really refreshing, and the grapefruit flavor wasn't too overpowering. The employee who took our order was really friendly, provided her recommendations, and was patient when we were ordering because it was our first time here. They have other exotic sausages like wild boar or duck among others. You can choose from different toppings to add to your sausage, and you can choose to eat it with or without the bun. This is better than the pheasant and I think the pork of beef would have been better because it would have been fattier. 5/5 - Duck & Bacon = dry, jerky-like, needs more salt and fat. 3/5 - Wild Boar - too spicy, jalapeno. 1/5 - Lamb - pops with fat, savory, salty. 5/5 - Pretzel = darkly baked and plenty of salt. 5/5 - Fries = thick-cut and complements the meal but nothing exceptional. 3/5 OVERALL The thing that made this meal a 5-star rating is the blue cheese dressing, sauerkraut, Dijon mustard, and bready/malty beer combination. read more
