This is, by far, some of the best Chinese I've ever had, period. Li's Place is an unassuming little diner in a home in Freeport, off the "main drag" that hosts places like L.L. Bean. There's limited seating and parking, and it looks like the family does all of the cooking themselves. I suspect all of the ingredients are fresh - there are a lot of chickens in the back yard! The Kung Pao Chicken I had here is easily the best I've ever had. The meat was ridiculously well-cooked, all vegetables were fresh and tasty, and the spice was perfectly hot without being overwhelming. I also tried some of my friends' dishes - the lo mein and chicken tenders - and was equally impressed. The staff were friendly and fun, not to mention extremely accommodating of a party of 6 walking in out of the cold. If you find yourself in Freeport, you should go here, no question! read more

We had hot and sour soup which is always a barometer for how the rest of the food will be. Yum! This is a family-owned and run business that evolved from a wildly successful food cart, and the food is consistently good. The lemon colored walls are reflective of the simple focus on fresh food, well prepared. Steamed dumplings were highlighted by a pungent vinegar dipping sauce and we had chicken with mixed vegetables in a garlicky brown sauce. Crab rangoons were crisp and creamy, but not very crabby. Love this place! The food taste fresh and they use fresh ingredients. We ordered the teriyaki beef in a skewer. It was super tender and flavorful with a nice beefy taste. Also had the Mapo Tofu with chicken. The tofu was smooth and the chicken was tender. We like the sauce, it was flavorful and had a nice spice to it. The shrimp fried rice was our favorite. They give large shrimps and the rice had a nice wok char taste to it. We ordered mildly spicy which is the only way to eat fried rice. Try it while on Freeport! It's our little hole in the wall. It's way outside of all the touristy stuff and it's the best Chinese in town. read more

I recently discovered Li's Place. The other local spots in the Freeport/Yarmouth/Cumberland area always left me feeling disappointed. I decided to give Li's a try and I'm so glad I did! I ordered Chicken Lo Mien, Crab Rangoon, and Sichuan Wonton Soup. The soup came in a large to-go container (the size was impressive) and had great flavor. I heard a lot about how good the food was at Li's Place so I decided that's where I'd get dinner for my family. I ordered a PuPu Platter for two, Crab Rangoons and an order of pork lomein. The chicken fingers were too crunchy and too greasy. There was a hair in the bbq pork. The chicken wings tasted like the meat was spoiled or even rotten. The crab rangoons had absolutely no crab flavor at all. The lomein was cold but the flavor was edible. The duck sauce was the worst I've ever tasted. Needless to say I'll never go back. It was some of the most expensive Chinese food I've ever bought and it was also the worst tasting. After a couple bites I was ready to throw the whole order away. I'll stick with driving to Gray to get my next Chinese order. read more

I loved this place. My wife and I have been looking for a good Chinese place and this is it! The food was excellent. We ordered the General's Chicken and it was awesome. I loved how you can pick how spicy you want it. We also shared a poo poo platter - the chicken fingers had a great crisp, the teriyaki skewers were yummy, the rangoons so good! The dining area felt like we were eating in someone's home, and from the look of it, it very well could have been. Our service was great too. Thank you. I was so excited to try Li's place based on all the stellar reviews. I had taken to reading the yelp reviews and pursuing the menu more often than I care to admit. I'm not often in Freeport so I was excited when I found myself there at a time when I could order some takeout. I have to admit I was a little over excited and probably had unrealistic expectations. I ordered the steamed homemade dumplings, beef and broccoli, General Gao's chicken and shrimp lo mein. The shrimp lo mein was decent, but the rest of food did not seem fresh. The dumplings actually tasted like they were off and I tossed most of them. Perhaps if I came here in the evening and not shortly after 11 am I would have had a different experience? I decided many years ago I didn't like Chinese food. I mean, it was usually of one of those in-the-moment kind of meals that I always regretted, greasy, gross, salty. Now Li's Place has reversed my dislike of Chinese food. Everything is fresh and tasty, the lo mein has fabulous wok flavor to it, the boneless BBQ pork was actual pork with homemade sauce on it, not like the fatty nastiness you get at other places. All fried items are delicious and no bad re-used oil aftertaste. I love Chinese Food again!!! Thank you Li! Came here on a whim as it was close to the Airbnb that I was staying at. Was surprised to find that the restaurant was located in a house that was converted into a make shift restaurant. This actually gave the place a bit of a charm! We ordered take out but there are a couple tables to dine-in though it is very small. We ordered the Kung pao chicken (we ordered it at a "level 9" spicy but it wasnt really spicy at all), sesame chicken and chicken with mushrooms. All the food was superb! Hard to find a place that does Chicken fingers just right. Li's Place nails it. The coating is crisp and light and the chicken is tender. Same story with the General Tso's chicken. Not soggy but not all batter. Boneless ribs are done in a homemade marinade heavy in delicious five spice. Tender and definitely above the rest of your generic boneless ribs. All the food was clean and didn't leave me feeling weary and sick. I will be ordering takeout here next time I visit Freeport! read more

The best Chinese food I've had ever! Ordered wonton soup, general tso chicken, and chicken with steamed veggies. The soup was very flavorful and aromatic with huge dumplings stuffed with pork filling and perfectly chewy dough. The general Tso chicken wasn't overly breaded, and too had great sweet and tangy flavor to the sauce. The chicken with vegg came with an abundance of both, and was perfect for me as I'm watching my waist line ;) The staff were friendly and efficient, and also compliant with COVID regulations. We've lived in Freeport for a little over a year now, and have been on the search for a great Chinese place, after not being impressed with the other place in town. While somehow Li's Place had escaped our notice (and Google searches) until recently, we finally got around to trying it today. We ordered takeout, as we don't live too far away. Our order was wonton soup, chicken fried rice, General Tso's chicken and chicken with broccoli. The food was ready for us in 15 minutes and still plenty hot by the time we got it home. The hostess was very friendly. Everything we ordered was phenomenal and full of flavor. It wasn't loaded with lots of "filler" (as we've been to a few places that seem to pile in loads of celery, for example, just to bulk up a bland meal) and every ingredient in it only enhanced each dish. It was plenty of food for two of us, and we ate half of it when we ordered it around lunch time, and enjoyed it so much that we finished it off for dinner. Li's Place is absolutely going to be our go-to for Chinese in the future. read more

Will not eat from any other Chinese restaurant if I have the choice. Well worth the 1-hour round trip drive to have ACTUAL spice. The best Lo-mein in Maine BY FAR, and every other dish we've tried is equally fantastic. I am extremely picky with Asian cuisine after years living in the Bay Area of California, and Li's became my go-to place after my first try. Didn't have high expectations but it has a great family feel and worth the money. Dare I say that the orange chicken is as good as Panda Express??
