Lisa has magic in her hands. I made an appointment with Lisa earlier this year after being recommended by my Acupuncturist. I had a history of fibroid and was undergoing treatments to heal my uterus and prep for conception. While it was my first massage with Lisa, i was expecting a relaxing Zen experience, However her techniques were targeted towards your specific needs and in my case to boost my ability to produce viable eggs and help with conception. Lisa is an amazing massage therapist! I first went in years ago for help with chronic pain in my neck and shoulder. I was hesitant to see a masseuse because the pain was in part due to a car accident I was in a couple years prior, and I desperately wanted to avoid anything that could aggravate the tender area even more. However, Lisa put me at ease and is a total pro. I have seen her 4-5 times for deep tissue massage over the course of a couple years and I always leave feeling relaxed and happy, not to mention the drastic reduction in pain that continues into the next day and beyond. I can recommend Lisa Hill-Pierce hands down (all puns intended)! I have been getting massages from her for nearly 10 years - for the most part, I go every 4-5 weeks. When I was working in high tech AND running marathons, I went weekly. I've referred several friends and co-workers. When my mom comes for a visit from New England, I send her to Lisa (& About Face) as a treat & belated birthday gift. Regardless of massage "modalities," the first question that Lisa always asks is "what's going on with your body?" It would be easy for her to be on "auto-pilot" with me at this point, but she isn't. She is present and thoughtful with respect to each session. She is also interested in me as a person - what is going on that creates physical pain & tension, what to remember to keep my body feeling better in between sessions. When I was running long-distance, it was very much a heavy-duty sports massage - it felt great to have someone really work those big tired leg muscles. She knew what she was doing from a massage AND a running standpoint (she had also been involved in Team in Training). When I was under high stress at work, the approach was much more subtle. I had so much tension & pain in my neck and shoulders that they hurt to the touch. Lisa would find ways of "sneaking up" on them (e.g., loosening up the back and nearby muscles first). She would also use lavender and rosemary, whatever aroma causes your brain to give up some pain & tension and submit! Now, I'm in the mode of low-stress, taking care of myself. I still go every 4-5 weeks as a treat and of making my body remember good alignment. I started yoga about a year ago and her treatment has been very complimentary to my practice - e.g., incorporating breathing and core strength. I've used spa services and get facials regularly at other places. I find Lisa's prices to be incredibly reasonable in comparison. The only nit, sometimes, is the setting - the acupuncture office is not the most luxurious place and noise from this Lincoln Ave building occasionally intrudes. Lisa has done a lot with her room to compensate for this - music, scents, and of course, wonderful massage. read more

I've had a few spa massages over the years and they were relaxing and pleasant but nothing special and definitely nothing lasting. Massage therapy with Lisa is a completely different story. I had a painful neck spasm back in May. I'm really not a massage kind of person, but the pain was so severe, I was willing to try anything. The first surprising thing about Lisa is the sincerity with which she asked me about what was going on with my body. I was there for acute pain from the neck spasm and hadn't even thought to mention the chronic hip pain I've had since my second pregnancy (four years ago). Or, oh yeah, the pain and numbness in my hand, arm and shoulder from carpal tunnel I was diagnosed with over 10 years ago. Sometimes you live with pain for so long, you kind of just accept it as a part of your reality. I will be forever grateful to her for this one brief, sincere, probing conversation. After the first session, the neck spasm was gone. And the hip pain! I had forgotten what it was like to not hurt. I never would have thought it was a possibility for this to be fixed. The hand, arm and shoulder issues were improved, but took one more session to heal completely. After two sessions, that was it. Completely gone. Now I go back every couple of months for maintenance. More frequently if I've been spending a lot of time on my laptop, less frequently if I've been following through with the stretches Lisa suggested. Her training in sports and deep tissue massage, extensive knowledge of anatomy and years of experience treating chronic pain issues set her apart from the rest--Lisa is a true professional. read more

This Yelp needs to add more stars because I would give Lisa 10 as she's THE ROCK STAR with deep tissue massage! I came to her because my sports chiropractor recommended I find a masseuse too who can work on my tight and overworked shoulders, neck, back and arms due to overtraining with weights. My fault for not stretching post-workout and not thinking of adding deep tissue massage for maintenance. The tightness in my shoulder, arms and back were getting so bad to the point that the only place I could feel comfort was laying down on a hardwood floor. Then I met Lisa. A highly trained masseuse who perfected her craft for years and it shows. A cool and calm chick who's sweet voice and demeanor makes you feel like you've known each other for years. She helps you feel relaxed from the moment you walk in until you leave. First session was great and intense because I wasn't use to deep tissue in a long time and had to bear through it because I KNOW if I stayed with it, it will be better after just a few treatments. I've been use to the heavy work performed on me by my sports chiropractor over the years whenever I got injured (running, overuse, tightness) and that stuff can hurt for a few moments but will have you feeling a ton better in no time. Let me just say Lisa's deep tissue is PRETTY DARN GOOD. She KNOWS where to find those gnarly knots and she gets it slowly until the knot starts to loosen up. She also works around the areas connecting to it to help relieve the pressure. If you are too wimpy for this stuff, I PROMISE you must get through the bad to get to the good because you will feel SOOOO MUCH better the next day and the days after. Light rub massages doesn't do crap, so if you're seeking that, go to the mall or ask your kid. She works with your needs so if you start slowly with some deep tissue massage, you'll eventually will want more after several sessions because you will notice a difference. I started feeling better after the second session, and soon after my 6th session (once a week massage), she has loosened up my shoulders, neck, back and arms to jello again. NO MORE pain, tightness is all gone and I FEEL A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! I am lifting more weights with no injury/pain/soreness because of her. If I had to choose my deep tissue massage between Lisa Hill-Pierce or Watercourse Way, it's HANDS DOWN Lisa. If you want the pampered light massage experience with NO results, go to Watercourse. P.S. I recently had a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction last year and Lisa was soooo gentle getting me acclimated laying on my chest for the first time in a year due to major discomfort with implants feeling like balls between my ribs and the table. Lisa's got the magic touch. I was experiencing some tightness in my back and shoulders, which I had had before, and found a great masseuse who since quit the business to be a stay at home mom. So I found Lisa, mostly due to her location and some of the reviews. And I am so, so glad I did! Lisa's got the magic touch. She asks a few prelim questions, and then gets to work. Her office is clean, quiet, and comfortable. Small, but good enough to lay out on the table and relax. She found my problem areas right away, and constantly checked on me to make sure I wasn't in pain, and to talk about some of the areas she was hitting. She continued to work out the kinks, and asked what I wanted to do with our time - keep working on the kinks or move on. I chose to work out the kinks since I knew right then I'd be coming back for more! Since my first 60min massage, I went back for a 90 minute full body. I felt incredibly loose and energized afterwards. While I was a bit slow moving, I felt completely at peace, and I really felt much more nimble and rejuvenated. Lisa is highly recommended if you have some stress spots, some aches and pains in your back or neck area, or you just want to get some work done after a few hard weeks at the gym or travel or whatever it that runs your body down. read more

I came to write a review for Lisa and soon many people have said just what I was going to say. I don't say this lightly - I have had many, many massages and I refer people to get a massage for medical reasons (I'm an acupuncturist) so I have had lots of experience from many different angles. I can very confidently say that Lisa is the best therapeutic massuese I have been to. Her deep tissue work is literally unparalleled and she understand referral pain and trigger points extremely well. This is no fluffy massage, this is deeply healing massage. Lisa knows bodies. I've had undiagnosed chronic pain for over a year, and started seeing her once a week soon after I met her. She can do it all- if you're looking for relaxing, she'll have you feeling like you've melted by the end of the session. If you've got specific pain, she will dig in and find that spot and work at it till it would release. My first session with her I was laughing the whole time because every time she would touch a spot, it was exactly the spot where I hurt the most, and she just knew. And she worked at it very pointedly and systematically, in ways I've never had a massage therapist work before. She's flexible with booking- often I would text her at some point during the week and ask if she had time that day or the next, and she would make the time, even squeezing in an appointment for me and my mom the next day. And something I really appreciate is how much she cares. I'm always impressed when someone can keep up with my life who's not in it. She'll give you a quiet, peaceful massage if that's what you want, but she's also just so open, fun, and caring that I wound up wanting to talk with her the whole time. Lisa is amazing. When I first went to her I could barely write due to the pain from my tendonitis. She took the time to find out what was going on with my body and explained how my job (eyelash extension specialist) was contributing to the pain. Lisa is an amazing massage therapist. Unlike some massage therapist who has a sort of "brute strength approach", Lisa has a very precise approach. You can tell she is really knowledgeable about the human body, what causes pain, and what fixes it. When she's working on you, you can feel that whatever she's doing (even though it might hurt) is making your muscles better. She seems to hone in on the parts that needs work and does her magic with surgical precision. She has done wonders for my back pain. Also, she seems like she really cares. Lisa is truly a miracle worker! I had my first massage with her a few weeks ago and have never felt better. I've suffered from daily headaches and weekly migraines for the last year with no relief.
