First time going to Lisa's in almost 2 years and man, I wish I didn't go back today. For starters, the place is not what it was back then when you walked in. Before, the place felt super homey, welcoming and the vibes were just there. A diner you would actually want to go weekly with your family or even a solo trip. Whoever bought the place absolutely GUTTED the soul and warmth out of the space. Before, the walls were covered with different legit retro signs of Betty Boop or funny wall frames, pictures of families, regulars, collection of license plates, the whole 9 yards. The windows were always decorated seasonally and if you were to see the place from the street, you would actually want to stop by and check it out. Now... it feels like a cold gym locker. The walls looked like they picked the cheapest blue and black paint they could get on sale and threw it on the walls without priming them first. LED signs to give it that cheap retro look that isn't it. Should have kept it how it was if retro is what you were going for. Also invest in toilet seat covers, raw dogging the toilet seat isn't for everyone. Not sure if it's the pipes or maybe the mop wasn't cleaned right, but the women's restroom smelled like wet dog. Service was great. The former owner served us, she was a but rushed but nonetheless, great hospitality. She welcomed every guest with such warmth and like an old friend. Didn't catch the name of the guy with the gauges, but he had great service as well. The food was all right. Definitely too well seasoned and salty. The waffles and pancakes were bland, not even the butter or syrup was able to save them. Add more vanilla or cinnamon to the batter if they're made from scratch. The plates are no longer glass or ceramic, they are now a hard plastic material, so don't cut too hard on them to prevent getting some mircoplastics on your food. It a nice small diner. I really enjoyed the hamburger steak that I ordered topped with mushroom and it came with potato topped with the gravy same as the one they used for the biscuits and gravy + garlic bread. The hamburger patty was crunchy on the outside and so as the garlic bread. The gravy on top of the mashed potato was delicious. The service was good. Welcoming and attentive. What a great coffee shop. I'd seen this joint on Yelp many times because I routinely search for diners. I would definitely order this again, But the biggest surprise was when the server saw my eggs came out a little more cooked than my order of "Sunny & Runny", she asked the cook to make me two more, more befitting of my ideal eggs. Those two were perfect. That's ideal customer service, anticipating my needs before I even brought them up. What's even more ironic is that I probably wouldn't have even complained about the initial eggs as they were only slightly burnt. I've definitely had more overcooked many, many times in many, many different places. Any food joint willing to make and re-make eggs till they're just so has got my attention. Lastly, the coffee shop wasn't busy when I walked in, which kind of unnerved me. I like it when a place is 50-80% of capacity when I decide to eat there. It shows it's popular but not overbooked. Old school diner built in 1964 as per the current owner (I believe her name is Cindy) who shared the history of the diner with my wife and I. The vibe upon entering is that of stepping back in time as there are original items on display and the layout of the restaurant is still intact. Note: the restaurant is currently awaiting a new AC to be installed within the next few days and as a result, there is no AC however, the owner has fans going full speed in an attempt to keep the restaurant somewhat cool and comfortable for customers. The service offered by the owner was FANTASTIC! She was the only waitress, cashier and hostess during our visit and she worked non stop the entire time as the restaurant was short staffed on this particular day. Upon ordering our food, the waitress was approximately twenty-three minutes before we received our order. Very acceptable wait time for our food and no complaints whatsoever. It was further east but close enough. 9 a.m. on a Thursday and the spot was void of visitors. I was nervous but adventurous. As I entered, I had that reminiscent feeling of a middle America truck stop equipped with booths and seating at the coffee bar. If you ever went to a dive bar, you get the hint. Americana decor to include cool signs, punch lines, old license plates and pup pictures. I am sold. I sat down at the bar and ordered biscuits with sausage gravy and 2 eggs over from the very nice lady who happens to own this spot. The food came out quickly and it was delicious. Working through a list of all diners in LA County and next up was Lisa's. It's a cash only, classic little diner over in West Covina. All these Route 66 diners have such a great history to them and most have great food as well. Inside is quite small, but they have booth and counter seating available, as well as some larger tables for larger groups. They don't have outdoor seating. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered came out pretty fast. They don't have a lot of traditional items on their menu but still have a lot of good options. Pricing is also very fair, I find that the places that are cash only tend to be less expensive because they don't have to deal with credit card fees. There's also a free, large parking lot right out front so parking is really easy. As always, I started off with a cup of coffee and I was happy to see that these come in huge mugs and it is very strong. After two full cups I had a lot of energy and was ready to tackle my day. Given that they don't have a lot of traditional items on their menu I decided to try one of their specialties, which is the Full Attack. It's basically two biscuits with sausage and egg on top covered with gravy and honestly I thought it was really good. I have been coming to Lisa's for at least 15 years, (u can see my previous review) but sadly things have gone downhill ever since. I stopped by recently and not only prices are absolutely outrageous (that most likely is not so much their fault, tho a lot of business owners have not taken advantage so much of the situation). Just look at the prices for EGGS BENEDICT.... But more than prices, the service is completely different and not even CLOSE to what it once was. It took them almost 40 minues to being out our food, the recipe of what we ordered has changed: u can tell they used ketchup to make their huevo ranchero salsa and the beans were literally heated up straight from the can. They didnt even have tortillas so they gave us burrito tortillas FOLDED and just placed on a little saucer plate instead of a regular size one. They gave us coffee refill ONCE, the place was packed and they only had two guys serving a full house. And though they did apologize, I've worked for places where employees have to wear 3,4, even 5 hats at the time and it never works. I had to stand up and take my money to pay, cause nobody ever came to bring me my bill. Trust me, we walked out of here with sadness, knowing it was the last time we would ever come back read more

I've gone several times because I absolutely love them. I always get the green ones--they're definitely on the spicy side, which is exactly why they're my favorite. The portion size is solid for the price, too. I've brought other people here to try them, and they always have great things to say. It's a small diner, kind of a cozy hole-in-the-wall vibe. Went to Lisa's for a late breakfast. Myself and my wife ordered the steak and eggs. We were sadly disappointed. The steak was old and tough no flavor or bad flavor. I got the hash browns and I could taste the old cooking oil. My order came with a side of toast, pancakes or biscuit and gravy. I got the biscuit and gravy and when the bill came was charged for it. Would not of minded but, it was the worst biscuit and gravy I've ever had. We didn't finish the steak and brought it home for our dogs. $60. For a horrible breakfast. Wow...this was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. I had been craving biscuits and gravy, and did some Yelp searching and remembered Lisa's Coffee Shop. I used to be a regular, but after moving hadn't been in a couple of years. When I walked in at 10:00 a.m. on a Friday morning, there was only a couple sitting at the breakfast bar. The restaurant was a ghost town. The server had her back turned so I stood at the entry way for a minute. The couple even seemed a little perplexed. I was finally acknowledged and the server said I could sit anywhere. I picked a booth near the door and ordered a coffee. The basket of creamers was FILTHY. On top of one of the creamer cups leaking milk, there were splashed drops of brown over the majority of the creamer cups (I assume/hope coffee splatters)? It was disgusting. I had to carefully inspect to try to find one creamer cup that was not corrupted. I placed an order for biscuits and gravy, eggs over medium with bacon, and requested a side of breakfast potatoes. The server did not bother to write my order down, which is fine...except that as she was walking away she asked me again how I wanted my eggs and whether I wanted sausage or bacon. The server brought me my food, and I could not BELIEVE this. She had brought sausage instead of bacon and actually said to me, "The cook put sausage but I'm sure you are okay with that?" What the actual F. I was so stunned I don't think I even responded. Made me suspect that they were out of bacon? Nevertheless, who am I to correct her, apparently she knows better as the server so I didn't argue since I *should* be okay with the sausage instead of the bacon I ordered. My goodness...the biscuits and gravy were disgusting. They tasted...old? Maybe freezer burn? They tasted not the least bit fresh and made my nostrils hurt from the weird/old aroma. The biscuit was actually fine, and the disgusting culprit was the gravy. Eggs were cooked perfectly. The potatoes were cooked nicely but had zero salt or seasoning. Oh, and delightful, the server gave me a side of ketchup in a plastic cup and thankfully she spilled it all over the edge, so when I picked it up to add some to my potatoes I proceeded to get ketchup all over my fingers. The icing on the cake was when the server brought me the bill. She stated that that POS was down, and attempted to scribble a bill on a scrap of paper. She said, "Don't worry, the total is $25 even." Who knows although I think her math and tax are not adding up. I didn't recall the pricing for the coffee, biscuits and potatoes so I had to just take her word for it. Reluctantly gave $29 and walked out without even being acknowledged. And yes, I had tummy issues the minute I returned home. They did not have any silverware down I had to ask them a few times for the entire table. They had no orange juice. They forgot several items that were ordered, I had to ask them for my toast and pancakes more than 3 times. The waiter came by the table only a 2 times and each time took like 20 mins. The floors were disgustingly sticky. I felt gross eating there. Both cooks in the back look like they were 18 or 19 years old and cooked the food with no sense of urgency.
