Visit after visit, Luna Pizza has proven to have spectacular food; however, very worthy of note is the outstanding service. Each time my family and I have stepped into this Luna--whether it is to dine-in or carry-out--the servers have always been friendly, helpful, attentive, and efficient. On our most recent visit this afternoon, my family and I got two small pizzas, an order of wings, and a salad to go. The pizzas and the wings were all freshly made and cooked to perfection; the salad was also fresh having just been made (not made in advance, packed, and placed in a refrigerator for when they're ordered in the future). [This was all made in about 20/25 minutes from when we placed our order by phone.] Behind these perfect dishes were three younger men, running behind the counter, spinning dough in the air, and slicing steaming pizzas. Each was extremely kind and personable, even while they were cooking/preparing meals and checking on the patrons dining in the gallery. They double checked our order and made sure we had everything we wanted before we walked happily out the door--including an extra side of their supremely scrumptious sauce!! I have been a fan of Luna's since they opened their first location back in the days of the old Farmington Valley Mall (ahhh memories). The pizza has changed a bit over time, but still is by far one of the best slices you'll find outside of NYC. The pizza here is pretty unpredictable. Sometimes it's really pretty great, but most of the time it is sloppy, kind of wet, and generally unappetizing. I ordered a pie with tomatoes on it the other night, and they were colorless and limp- worse than you might expect from a Subway sandwich procured in a gas station. The crust is always pretty good, and I often find myself abandoning the gross toppings entirely and just munching the soggy crust out of hunger. This pizza is also supremely overpriced for what it is. My last comment is about the experience of picking up food from this establishment. Every time I go to grab a pizza, there is a particularly aggro dude marching around and swearing; making aggressive and vaguely threatening remarks and generally trying to seem like a real badass. It makes the pickup experience especially unpleasant- partially because he is just an unpleasant person to be around, and partially because I'm a little afraid of eating food prepared by this guy. I came here because I got the Groupon for a large 1 topping pizza and garlic knots for $17. The service was pretty slow but there was only one girl waitressing and manning the cash register. All of our food came out at the same time which she apologized for and our salad came out later (keep in mind we ordered it after the pizza). The pizza is very good. They have crumble sauage which I prefer to sliced and the crust is super thin. They also use fresh mozz which is a huge plus! The garlic knots were good and a menu item they don't have in their West Hartford location. We definitely got more than the dozen included in the Groupon. Not to be too nit picky but there was definite quality control issue on the sizes of the knots (ie some were baby and some were larger). Regardless they tasted great! The salad wasn't special just a normal house salad but we both liked the house dressing it came with. Overall we loved the pizza but the service was "okay" but we understood why. read more

We generally always go to Luna prior to a movie. Last night we sat down at 6:20 for a 7:00 movie. At 7:00, we still did not have our food. The manager told us the order was not put in until 6:40. We ended up leaving without dinner and they made us pay for 2 glasses of rather lousy wine. This will be our last visit to Luna. The sauce tastes a bit on the sweeter side, and there is a noticeable amount of seasoning on the pie, which with in combination with the mozzarella, provides a very poignant flavor that you won't find at a lot of local Connecticut pizza joints. We went for a couple of slices last night. After ordering I went to use the restroom while we waited for our slices to be warmed up. The soap dispenser in the women's restroom was empty so I peeked into the men's restroom (it's a single stall). This dispenser was empty as well, so I went to the register and asked the staff if they could refill the soap. She went to the kitchen and asked where the soap was. She then came back and told me to use the kitchen bathroom because they are out of soap. What have people been using to wash their hands after using the bathroom?! The veggie slice here is amazing, but after the service we received, we won't be back. I live in NJ and every time I drive up to see my mom, I get the veggie slice at this place. It hardly has any cheese, is on thin crust and is divine. I have only eaten it for lunch however, which I think is a far better idea if you want fresh pizza. My slice seemed like it wasn't too fresh and I assume it was out for a while but I digress. I went here with my brother and daughter. First, we had to wait a long time before the waitress approached us and honestly, it's a pizzeria, I would rather get my food from the counter and go and eat. We ordered slices and water. We are not soda drinkers. We waited and waited for water and watched how she served other tables who ordered sodas their drinks (tables that arrived after us). I assume this is because she felt she wasn't going to be tipped on our drinks but I always tip for water as if it were soda. She kept walking by with no drinks. Now I was already pretty thirsty and definitely couldn't dive into the pizza without drinking first. Then she brought out the slices with no water. I asked if she could please bring the water. She said okay. She walked by numerous times and I had to ask her again to please bring the water, that I couldn't start my pizza without it. She finally brought them out and I had to ask her to reheat my slice because I like my pizza burning hot. Then to add insult to injury, the slice wasn't great and they put broccoli stems on it that were hard and inedible. As good as this pizza is fresh, I can't stomach the service. I always tip 20 percent but I honestly thought about not tipping. I did but she definitely didn't deserve a dime. Sorry Luna, there is too much good pizza in this area for repeat service. read more

The pizza itself is good, but the service was horrible. On a Saturday night the waitress was alone and only had 4 tables when we arrived. After asking for our drink orders t took about 15 minutes to get them, and forgot to ask for our food order. So we walked up to order them our selves. After that one of the tables got up and left. Not the waitresses fault that she was overwhelmed, but who only schedules one waitress on a Saturday night. One of the 4 cooks in the back couldn't come out to help her and answer the phones for her, so she could take tables. We are now late for our movie at 5:00 pm and haven't even eaten. read more

Sadly, the service experience negated any positivity that would have come from the food, itself. The food was simply okay. We ordered our food online, and it took 40 minutes for it to get here. That's not the problem, though (that's pretty average for delivery here) - the problem was they forgot part of our order. We called to ask where it was (maybe the driver forgot it in his car, and we had *just* missed him), and they discovered that "someone wrote it down wrong" and it didn't even get made to begin with. We asked if we could get it to us, and they said it would be another 40 minutes. So my husband decided we would get it faster if he just went out and picked it up. They offered to give it to us for free, and we asked if we needed to bring the credit card we used to pay for the order with to do that - to which they said "No, we won't do that. We'll just give you this one for free." (Which started a 3-minute debate on the exact definition of "free", since we'd already paid for it. The person on the phone insisted that because we weren't paying for the food a second time, that we were getting it for free.) When my husband got there, he was given the food, with the comment that "everyone wants something for free." This was the first - and last - time we will ever try this place again. Mistakes being made - that's fine. It happens. But making a mistake (that is 100% *your fault*), and being a complete jerk about it is not. read more
