We thought we'd sample a burger at the Little Bits while on vacation at Oak Island, Boy was it good. The menu offers a small, and a large. The small must be a half pound, cause the large has got to be 3/4 to a pound!!! The bun looked like a slider bun on a normal burger, it's huge!!. Little Bits is a small place, probably 30 people at the most. Service was good, friendly staff. Two of us sit at the counter and watched as the burgers where cooked. I opted for the small, one of our party the large, he did not know how big it was till they rolled it out in a well barrow to their table,[just kidding]. One of us had a hot dog also, he said it was pretty good. I had my burger all the way, mus,chili,slaw,onions. Dang good burger. Little Bits offered several kind of sandwiches besides burgers,but we where there for the beef!! Heard it was great, was excited when I stopped by to see still open when hours are normally very short. But wanted to try it. ....was shocked by a Very rude person who was also cooking. I had my leg up on the seat in front of me, since I recently tore my calf muscle and have just recently been out of the brace It was sore and was trying to stretch it. Was careful not to damage the seat, was not hurting the wood at all, just trying to stretch my hurt leg when the woman cooking came by and literally smacked my foot and knocked it down like I was a child. Server was very nice, food was fine, but I've never been treated this way. Will never go back and would never be that rude to anyone. At least ask politely first; I would have happily changed my seating position or left if she was that upset at someone resting their leg under an empty table. read more

The perfect place for a simple breakfast!!! This was exactly the type of restaurant my wife and I were looking for. The eggs were copied perfect and the hashbrowns were a step above most. I got the liver mush and it was cooked perfect as well. Food came out fast and the service was excellent. If you are in there mood for a simple and perfectly cooked breakfast, then this is your spot. I love this place! You get a huge 8oz burger for like $6, and that's the "small!" The large is 14oz! Sometimes the wait is long and seating is limited, so getting takeout may be a better option if you're not looking to wait. This place definitely seems to be popular with the locals, understandably. The burgers and all of their toppings are delicious. They're also working some type of voodoo magic with those French fries because they are perfect and super crispy (probably just twice fried but same difference ). The staff is always friendly and prompt. The decor is very interesting to say the least, although the red and white tiling gives a very American diner vibe, it's decorated with Hindu and Chinese decor not sure what's up with that, but I'm not complaining. It was dense, like it was too lean. It was messy because of the size. It slides off the bun, but then you get to lick your fingers, so that's a plus. The burger did not taste grilled AT ALL. So, while it is HUGE, it is not worth driving 30 minutes for the experience as everyone had been raving about. And everything is a la carte. They will just ask "Do you want fries with that?" and you say "Yes", figuring they come with the burger. They don't. Sooooo.... you get surprised when your $7 burger costs you $14 with the fries and a drink. And the large burger costs you $17 with fries and a drink. Plus another $2 for tip? Even what they call a small would be the largest burger in the house at any other burger joint. Me not knowing this... ordered the large, and it was so massive I had to go fork and knife on that son-beach. Guess I should have checked yelp first before assuming all the giant burgers I saw on other tables on the way in were larges, when in fact they were smalls. None of this is a bad thing. Here is the bad thing... at least for me. I am a garlic lover. I generally love garlic-laced stuff. In this case, there was soooo much garlic salt on the burger, it was all I could taste. The burger did not need it in my estimation... it probably would have stood as a decent burger with just some salt, black pepper, and maybe a touch of garlic salt... but as it stood, I could see how much was caked on. The bacon and cheese topping did nothing to hide it, it was all garlic, all the time. The fries were good and crispy, but nothing special, just fries cooked golden. Thumps up. My sweet tea was good, and thats a good thing, because I needed it to hide all that garlic. Service was neither good nor poor. The building is definitely a bit of a dive... but seemed clean enough to me. Some people really seem to like it, and I will admit to being a burger snob, so take my word at that value. In my book, either less garlic salt, or maybe using minced garlic mixed directly in the meat would be a better approach. I am glad we received such a rude welcome because it will lead me to an awesome review of Oak Island Sub Shop. We walked in and there were a few people in front of us at the doorway entrance. Probably 6 people in a group. We assumed like most businesses that know how to treat customers that an employee would direct this elderly group to a spot to wait appropriately, so we waited a few minutes and from the back by the cash register we were SCREAMED at to SHUT THE DOOR! And gladly we did and walked out and onto a fantastic spot that was friendly! Being locals we will be certain to share our experience with everyone we know here! Run by Little Bit, she has decorated the space with a bit of Asian flair, as she is from Vietnam originally. I love how the drinks come in little pitchers, the food come as you fast, and you better come hungry. Just look at the size of that burger with an average size bun! I got it both ways, and it was just too much for that little bun. They wisely provide you with a fork n knife, which after two bites I picked up and tore into the burger. The burgers are made simply with a bit of garlic salt, but they are incredibly tasty. Take the time to visit this gem, and since they are only open until 3, plan on this being a full lunch. A family business that is your standard American grill with the menu staples of burgers, hotdogs, fries and the like, with the unique flair of Asian decorations represntitive of what I can only assume is the family's heritage. Ate here for lunch on a Monday. All the tables and the counter were full so we waited for a little while for a table. Everyone was friendly and as soon as other patrons left, they quickly turned the tables. We ordered the small burger and the steak and cheese. We also ordered the fries and the onion rings, just to try both. The steak and cheese was kind of odd. It was served on a hamburger bun with american cheese. It was difficult to eat and the bun fell apart. The meat wasn't seasoned, so the whole thing was kind of bland. I ordered my burger medium and our server said it would come out pink in the middle and I said that was how I wanted it. It came out well done. The burger wasn't seasoned at all, so it was like a big hunk of dry beef. I ordered it Bits way with lettuce, tomato and onions. The toppings were fresh, but the whole thing fell apart when you tried to eat it. Maybe toasting the buns would help that. The onion rings were frozen, mostly breading and not good. The fries were the coated kind and not that good either. Not sure what everyone is raving about. If this is the best burger OKI has to offer, that isn't saying a whole lot. There are definitely better burgers and fries to be had around town. Try Eric's or Fat Andy's for way better burgers and fries at a cheaper price. I've been eating at Little Bits for years, even back when it was in the marina before it moved to it's current location. The burgers never disappoint, esp if you want an extremely large burger - it's also very tasty and full of flavor! The fries and onion rings are store bought tho, and there is one server in particular who has been nasty to us many times. Pretty much if you're done eating, then get the hell out! The one star rating is generous considering we were not given the opportunity to try the food. My husband (a disabled veteran) and I are new homeowners on the island and we have heard amazing things about this place. We arrived at 1:30 and as expected the place was packed! We love that about restuarants as it shows the food will probably be worth the wait. We were told several times that they would get our order in "just a second". Our plan was to place a to-go order and sit at the park to eat. We stood at the register waiting to place our order for 20 minutes. During this time the patrons had all been served and the tables were clearing out. We were the only people in line. As we were finally asked what we wanted to order the person cooking said "no more orders". We laughed as we thought it was a joke. But it was not a joke. We were turned away! As patrons and previous small business owners we were appalled! I am sad to say that we will not attempt to eat here again as customer service is as important as the meal. read more
