Welcome!, Little Dokebi, to our 'hood.
We welcomed you with open arms ever since we daydreamed about your wooden interior, imagining it being carved out like a precious cut diamond right before our eyes. The night you looked almost open, our mouths watered as we rushed past you all tired after a long day, on a brisk autumn night, imagining what EXCITING fare awaited at your tiny countertops. We pictured your cool staff welcoming us, with their cupcake tats, suspenders and smiles, classic Brooklyn, oh yea! we thought, thank god good ol' Greenpoint is going to be blessed with a new place to eat! and in such a coveted piece of real estate, no less, yep everybody and their mom loves McGorlick park obvsssz, and we do too.
We googled you early, eager to get a glimpse at what you were, who you were, and our hearts warmed intensely upon finding out your name was gonna be Little Dokebi, and you were gonna bless our existence with your delicious wannabe korean street food....
This is all, until we stepped foot into your very small but cozy establishment, still fragrant with that new scent of wood, that brought us back to something primal, warm, perhaps childhood. Because when we walked in, we loved your little movie set of korean street food served in a hipster restaurant in Brooklyn. Our bellies growled at the first whiff of something fried and delicious, perhaps some good organic chicken, hopefully not purchased at Met Food and disguised as Happy Mr.Cluckles yes you know who? the one organic chicken that lived in that perfect little farm upstate until somebody murdered him for our enjoyments....
The daydream bubble was popped pretty much five minutes into the interaction between nice, hungry humans to-- bartender-servers-manager? or whoever is the cranky, extremely rude lady with white hair that works at your restaurant. We were a group of 2 gentlemen and 2 gentle ladies, and your service was pretty much unanimously described as ''WORST dining experience in the GeePee, or Miamiburg(Willy), EVER'' Your food fare was okay to mediocre, definitely not mind-blowing, but it was also definitely edible. The problem lied within the truly amateur staff, back to back. Best service was provided by the mexican dudes who clearly knew what they were doing and actually did ALL the work, while the white mice-like operatives spent their long minutes gossiping behind the bar, speaking to customers with their mouth full, and literally shocking us with what seemed like the WORST waitresses, waiters/bartenders improv routine we've ever seen.
It's okay to be amateurs and try hard. But for a group of seasoned Brooklyn eaters like us, if we're gonna be paying top dollar for tiny korean baskets and overcooked items of sorts, we'd rather be joining the real chefs behind the greasy counters, the mexican crew, we'd rather get their address and eat at their house next time. They're the real stars here. The rest of you all ''working'' at Little Dokebi.....it's sad to say but you guys are kind of a joke.
However, Best of luck amongst this wild, wild west that is Brooklyn eateries. Hope the polish community doesn't egg your ass anytime soon.
Much love and respect...
A group of friends that loved you even before you were born.
