Came here on a chilly Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was spacious and not too busy yet. The service was great. The staff even gave us hot tea to warm up from the cold. We ordered the roti canai, mixed satay, nasi goreng, and fried pearl noodles. I also ordered an iced kopi which tasted very similar to a Vietnamese iced coffee. The fried pearl noodles were flavorful and the texture was really interesting. The noodles had a chewy and firm bite similar to udon and ended up being a favorite between my brother and me. My mom didn't enjoy the chewiness as much but she said it was a good experience. The mixed satay came with both chicken and beef. We enjoyed it enough to order another round to go but this time we opted for beef only. The sauce that comes with it is as equally delicious. Always loved a good Malaysian meal! Ordered the nasi lemak with "stinky beans", roti canai and pearl noodles! I came here for a late lunch since my family and I were in the area and looking for food. 86th St has so many options so it took a while to decide on a place (such difficult decisions haha). This place had good reviews so we decided to check it out. We ordered the Roti Canai, the Sarang Burung (chicken, seafood, veggies, cashews in a taro nest), the Hainanese chicken (half), and the Four Heavenly Kings (without shrimp, eggplant, string beans, okra, petai beans). The portions were larger than I expected and the food was not too greasy. I especially liked the Hainanese chicken and the Sarang Burung. Service was friendly and fast. We stopped by for lunch. The restaurant was clean and quite spacious. Service was good. We ordered the following to share between 2: Young Tao Fu, Hainan Chicken Rice and Pandan Nasi Lemak. Young Tao Fu was really flavorful and had depths. The fried tofu skin was crispy goodness. Fishballs were bouncy and had good texture. The only exception was the the fishcake on tofu. It was bland. As for the Nasi Lemak, they didn't have the pandan rice so we got regular steamed rice. The sambal was good mixed with the anchovies. The bakwon was a little bland but nothing that Sambal can't fix. Started off with the young tao fu (without noodles) and the curry sauce was super fragrant with a nick spice kick. The eggplant, tofu, and jicama with the meat filling were all very delicious. For mains, the prawn mee had a hearty broth with strong prawn flavors. The egg noodles were good but a little overcooked. The chow kway teow was solid with good wok hei and savory flavors. Shrimp pieces were juicy and bean sprouts crunchy. Nevertheless I think it could have used a little more white pepper. Their belacan sauce was a lovely addition to the noodle dishes. The sauce was very multidimensional with different layers of shrimp/seafood, garlic/shallot, and red pepper flavors. For drinks, the bek kopi was solid and reminded me of ones I had in KL. Although the chendol had strong coconut sugar flavors, the coconut milk was diluted and the green jelly was a little too mushy. DO NOT SKIP ON DESSERT!! As someone who grew up eating kuihs, their kuihs were very solid and affordable. My go-to kuih salat had a balanced mix of pandan and coconut flavors. The sticky rice was chewy and had a good texture. Their kuih sago impressed me. Not only was the sago integrity preserved, but also the coconut flavors and coconut sugar taste were balanced and not overpowering. Char Koay Teow - thick flat noodle stir fried with seafood medley and bean sprouts. Our plate only had two pieces of squid and you can tell it's from a frozen seafood mix. 2. Curry mee young tao fu - delicious fish paste red curry with mixed with tofu fish balls, eggplants and fried tofu skin *MUST GET! 3. Nasi Lemak - we wanted to get the pandan version but they no longer sell the pandan rice. 4. We visited Little House Restoran a couple of times for lunch earlier this spring and felt that this place is one of the better Malaysian restaurants along 86th Street. However, our last visit with Little House Restoran was a terrible take-out experience. Dishes we've tried include: - #52 Salted Egg Prawn Chow Fun: $13.95; $15.19 with tax. The version we had at the restaurant was delicious. The salted egg imparted a delicious flavor on the shrimp, which then imparted the same flavor on the broad noodles (hor fun; 河粉). The shrimp were in shell though, and not deveined. The version we had for take-out was disappointing because there was very little salted egg flavor in the dish. - #3 Curry Puffs: $7.50; $8.17 with tax. Skippable. - #1 Roti Canai: $4.95; $5.40 with tax. Pretty good. - #50 Curry Chicken Gon Lon Mee: $12.95; $14.10 with tax. Good. The stewed curry chicken was a little dry, but was soft and tasty. The dish would have benefited from more sauce. - #59 Hainanese Chicken Rice: $11; $11.98 with tax. We had this dish with white chicken meat, because I was curious how Little House would do this dish with white meat. I should have stuck with dark chicken meat. When Nyonya closed on 86th Street, a part of me despaired as good Malaysian food is hard to come by. But things must happen for a reason, because I recently walked by the 20th Avenue stretch of 86th Street and came across Little House Restoran. I noticed that their takeout menus mentioned that they were mentioned in the NYT and while I was unable to find an article on Little House Restoran, I was able to find a glowing review written up for Little House Café in Elmhurst, which I'm assuming is its predecessor. I wasn't able to sit down for a meal, but I did order takeout and the whole process took about 20 minutes on a Friday night which was quite fast. We ordered the roti canai ($4.95), satay tofu ($9.50), scrambled egg chow fun ($12.95), and Hainanese chicken rice ($11). The roti softened on the way home so I had to reheat and resuscitate the crispy edges with a pan. The satay tofu was very similar to that of West New Malaysia in that the tofu puffs are smothered with bean sprouts and cucumbers. I personally prefer Nyonya's version with the highly textured deep fried tofu that is actually stuffed with greens. Our entrées were well packed for the road home-- the Hainanese chicken rice was in a container that separated the hot rice from the room temperature poached chicken. I thought the rice had a nice flavor and the chicken was very soft. The scrambled egg chow fun had a generous portion of the gravy sauce that was peppered with bits of shrimp, squid, and fish cakes bobbing around. The wok-seared flat rice noodles had a lovely charred flavor too. Overall, I enjoyed my takeout experience from Little House and would definitely return to try their lunch/dinner specials. read more

We ordered the coconut rice and chicken rice and soaked up the sauce beautifully yummm. Chicken rice isn't as flavorful as other places though. Sarang Burong: did we even eat Malaysian food without ordering this dish? One of the best versions we've had so far! Gobbled up this immediately Pearl Noodles: good wok flavor, the pork they use here is flavorful and fatty, the noodles are soft but once it's gold, becomes very chewy so eat quickly. Didn't wow me exactly, but a solid dish as well. Four Heavenly Kings: this is okra, string beans, eggplant, shrimp, and broad beans (I think? It was a smelly bean haha, we pushed all of it to the side) stir fried in a spicy ish, flavorful sambal paste/sauce. Malaysian food is one of my favorite cuisines because of all the spices they use for their food. I remember the Little House Restoran location used to also be a Malaysian restaurant, but I haven't been back since then. I decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did! I love myself a good bowl of laksa or curry mee so I had to order their Curry Mee Young Tau Fu. No regrets! I asked for flat noodles (ho fun) instead of the yellow noodles and they were able to accommodate me, no questions asked. I thoroughly enjoyed the big bowl of noodles and young tau fu. The curry was flavorful and I couldn't finish it so I took the rest home. I also tried some of the Chicken Nasi Goreng and that was pretty good as well. For starters, we had the Satay Mix and it was delicious - love the peanut sauce. Cute little Malaysian spot with homemade goodies. I usually judge a Malaysian spot by their hainan chicken, so that's exactly what we got. The chicken itself was pretty good, but I personally feel like their sauces could have been better. We also got the salted egg yolk stir fry broad noodles, and it had really good wok-hei (iykyk) but only four shrimps. We ordered a noodle, half a chicken, mixed skewer sticks, a mixed veggie dish, the fish curry and two bowls of rice - all for three people. Found little house while searching on Yelp for places to try in the area. Some of my favorite items I tried were the fried pearl noodles, which had a deliciously chewy texture, curry fish balls, tofu satay, and curry puff. I also thought it was so cool that you can purchase House made pandan spread by the jar, I got one of these to take home to have with some milk bread that I got from a bakery near by. Came here one night to find out about this lowkey spot. This Malaysian spot has set menus for both their lunch and dinner time where it's an entree that comes with a drink and either a desert for lunch time or a small appetizer for dinner. I got their Bangkok chicken over rice dinner set menu for about $14 and it comes with fish balls, and a soy drink. The chicken was very crispy and the fish balls were great as well! Pro: The waiters were very quick with service and was patient with my friend and I. We asked a lot of questions and she was able to answer without hesitation. Offers a wide selection of Asian beverages. There is a huge variety of food with pictures. The food was delicious and came out piping hot. Con: Prawn mee was not as tasty because the pork was frozen meat and the noodles were too soft for my taste. There is no restroom for customers so it should be getting a violation soon. read more

I went on Thanksgiving Eve and it was busy but understaffed. It's a good place to grab a casual dinner with friends. The waitress was doing her best to manage everything and she was very sweet and helpful. The food was delicious. I love the Roti and my usual go to is Hainanese Chicken with rice but I would definitely recommend the Prawn Mee because it was very flavorful. read more
