Two things keep their burgers from being perfect: They do not have pickles, big mistake. And they use Romain lettuce, big no no. Romain lettuce has too strong of a flavor and actually takes away from the other flavors, instead of adding to the burger flavor experience. Ditch that Romain, its for SALADS. I've only heard about this place and how good the tri tip was. Finally gave it a shot for lunch yesterday. I ordered the tri tip basket. I also got garlic fries. The place was interesting and having children drawings on their wall was cute. Waiting for the food wasn't too long. I took my order to go. I opened up bag with the fries and sandwich. The first thing I did was try the fries. They're not bad. Then I unwrapped the sandwich. It was pretty big. I ate the whole thing! I didn't even have room for the fries. It was good. Found this place on yelp and glad I did! We have a family of 6 and our order came up to less than $50. We ordered the tri tip sandwich and the cajun grilled chicken sandwich the kids meals are huge and so are the hot dogs. Everyone is happy. They also allow you to add toppings to your fries for very cheap I added cheese and garlic need I say more. We will definitely be back im ready to try the burger. If you drive by this place you would think it's a dump and you would never walk into it but you have to try it. I've lived in Pittsburg for a year and just tried it for the first time a couple months ago. I wish I would have gone sooner since I'm moving out of Pittsburg in a couple weeks but I gotta give them props before I go. The quality is there and customer service is great. Prices are very reasonable and portions are generous. It's the type of place where you feel good about trying everything on the menu because even if your not the biggest fan of the dish, the way they cook it makes it good no matter what. I'll be honest, I tried Little J's about 2 years ago, after passing it for a few years before that--since I literally live around the corner, but always kept driving because the storefront/location is not that appealing. And our meals were not the 'best barbeque' we've ever had, so chalked it up to just not my taste. But I kept hearing about how great the food is, and the owner, is very visible in the local community, sponsoring youth sports teams, so tonight, I gave them another shot. I went in and got a friendly greeting and asked to order, but since it'd been so long, I said, 'never been here, let me look'. The guy behind the counter said sure thing, let me walk you through the menu. I reviewed my options and went with his recommendation of the Sourdough Burger. He suggested adding mayo and I also got an order of onion rings. He was pleased with my choices, said 'we'll take good care of you'. While I waited for my meal to be cooked, he greeted new customers, and thanked those as the finished their meal. As he handed me my order, he asked if I wanted any sauces, and I said, "Do I?" and he gave me bbq, ranch and something like thousand island only better!! He said it's the dipping sauce for their fries. I asked his name and he said 'Aaron', and he was the owner. Told me the place was named after his son or grandson? I left feeling like I was leaving a true neighborhood place!. I went home (the rings barely lasted the short drive), but I was able to have a few with my burger, and it was fantastic. This is my favorite place in Pittsburg to get a burger. They're burgers are huge and full of flavor. I try a new burger every time I eat there. This place truly is amazing. It has the best tip tip sandwich in town (in my opinion). The meat is cooked just right as the food is made to order unlike the other places my boyfriend and I have been to. We especially enjoyed how the meat is not drowned in heavy marinate or seasoning, so we could definite tell it was fresh meat. Served on some French rolls, lettuce, tomato, and their special horseradish sauce, this sandwich was out-of-this-world good.
