    Minestrone soup and bread
    Martha G.

I have not been to Mac's since the 90's. We liked it because it was good, prices and the staff. We went to new ownership restaurant for lunch. The remodel is beautiful. The staff were okay and the food was not good. The menu is a complete lunch with soup or salad, pasta, vegetables, bread, and a main dish. My friends both ordered the extra cut prime rib with salad. They disliked the prime rib, it was not medium well and not a good cut. It did not look appealing to me. I ordered the calamari steak with minestrone soup. I disliked my calamari cut but the minestrone soup was delicious. And we all agreed the bread and pasta was distasteful. We also could not believe how small the drinks were but it was a single. The double drink was not that much larger so unsure on the triple drink size. It's questionable if we will be back.

Prime rib portions are not the same. Hella thin cut. Food was cold. Not the same.

Food was tasteless and not seasoned. It was served cold, with a side of attitude from our servers and bartender. The prime rib is paper thin now. Did I mention the food was served cold? The salad tasted like it was only tossed in oil, no vinegar anywhere. The minestrone soup was better once you added salt and pepper and grated cheese. The bread and butter was the star, but how do you mess up bread and butter? Don't sit next to a window. The flies were fighting to get out. The servers and bartender need to take a class on hospitality and customer service because talk about rude. Seemed like they didn't want to be there or maybe because we were of color? Everyone else seemed to have friendly service... anyways- do better new owners. This is a legacy of Antioch.

We had lunch at Mac's Old House, very busy but short wait. We ordered Prime rib which was rare as ordered and very good. Bread was served warm with butter. You had a choice of minestrone soup or salad with your meal. Dinner came with veggies , rigatoni and prime rib. You can choice reg cut or extra cut. It is a busy quaint diner.

I've been eating at Mac's since 1995. My first time back since they reopened. Here's my new opinion. Love the new clean appearance. Absolutely love the big CLEAN restrooms! Drink prices have increased to area standard. No more $2.50 cocktails. Lol. That's okay, because the food prices went up just slightly. That's awesome. Service was good. Still going through some understandable growing pains. That will improve. Now, the food. What happened to the soup? It is way more spicy than it used to be! I would not want to take home this new soup. I would rather have the old soup. Put a jar of hot sauce on the table if someone wants heat. Salad was good and the way I remember. Prime rib was good. I like the addition of au jus. I like the veggies a little under cooked. The pasta was a little different, but good and less of it. I think I counted 8-10 noodles. That's fine because if you have to cut cost a bit, the pasta is a good place to do it. I didn't get the baked potato, but I like they offer this. I guess an additional cost for this is fine. I like that they have sour cream now. I was able to mix my horseradish with some sour cream to tone it down. Overall good, but what happened to the soup???

It's so great to have Mac's Ol House back! I missed the soup so much and was so pleased to have it once again this week!

Waiting outside for the place to open! Huge line already!

Ask the Community - Mac's Old House

My friends daughter has a severe peanut allergy. Does any of your dishes contain peanut or peanut oil?

I highly doubt there is any peanut oil used in Mac's kitchen but you should really call the business to ask this question.

Has the recipe for the Minestrone soup changed. It seems very spicy now since before Covid ? My friends all agree it's different now.

I don't think it's been changed, it tastes the same to me and I've been there several times lately

Is there au jus for the prime rib?

All of our ur prime rib is dipped au jus and side of it is available upon request!

    Is the minestrone vegetarian friendly?

No, the minestrone has pork in it.

Do you have a child's menu?

We don’t have a separate kids menu, but we do have some options for kids! Our most popular option is our “Pasta Dinner” that comes with an option of all penne pasta with meat red sauce or half pasta and half veggies. You can also request the dish…

Does this restaurant have air conditioning?

Yes we do! We have one for each station. So three total!

Is prime rib only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday?

Prime Rib is served every day of the week and is always on the menu!

Are to-go containers provided when doing take out? Or do you need to bring your own containers?

Yes, they are providing containers now!

I know I've seen kids here- but do they have high chairs?

    High chairs are available

How much is the soup to go in any pot?

    $8 quart

    Are kids allowed?

Yes! This is a family restaurant.

He said that they don't make them there that I was confused with another place similar which I'm sure the bartender probably could've made it but more importantly, I ordered the same thing as my girlfriend and her daughter we all ordered the shrimp taco plate, , and the guy served me fish, which I am actually allergic to fish. I am able to eat shellfish but not regular fish I didn't notice it because I thought maybe they just deep-fried the shrimp but I didn't notice or realize it until after I ate a whole taco. He had put it on the bill and then I realized that's why it seemed different. I also asked him to remove the cabbage and he did not do that. He did refund the shrimp plate so I am giving him a star for that, but I'm just hoping that I don't have a reaction to the fish!! We feel like he never checked back or refilled our water.I am just really disappointed by the service today. I know people can make mistakes, but it wasn't just the fish tacos. It was the overall attitude from him and his service. I know I will go back because I enjoy the food and the service on a regular basis, I just hope next time we get somebody a little more efficient..

Also cream of mushroom soup. Presentation was spectacular. The salads were crisp and garnished with edible orchids. The soup was creamy and soothing. We chose, at the suggestion of our host the Bowtie Petite Syrah from the Macaully Estate Winery. Delicious, perfect temperature. The steaks were cooked perfect to medium. It was a little overcooked, edible, but somewhat rubbery/chewy near the tapered end. The service was great, but the food was only so-so.Not sure if I'll return as it seems a bit pricey for the quality of the meal.
