This is our first time at this family run restaurant. We were seated immediately by the 12 year old grandson of the owners. My wife ordered a cheese & mushroom omelette. She asked if she could have spinach added to it. They were happy to do it. I ordered the chicken fried steak & eggs. It was huge with lots of gravy! They serve home fries instead of hash browns. Normally I do not like home fries. However, these were really homemade fried potatoes with sauteed onion & were excellent! My wife indicated that her omelette was excellent. I felt extremely uncomfortable as I entered this cafe. When I walked in a waitress standing near the door told me to find a seat anywhere. As I was walking to seat myself at a back booth I was stared down by someone who worked there I'm guessing she was the owner I said hello and she turned her head without speaking. After seating myself another guest walked in and the waitress immediately greeted him and sat him while handing him a menu and asking what he wanted to drink. That's when I knew I wasn't welcomed and my business wasn't appreciated. I took a look around and noticed how filthy and dusty the old place was. It had a funky smell too. I would never drink a free water from this place let alone eat a meal. I only visited because my car was being serviced across the street and this looked like a place I could pull out my laptop and get some work done at. I would have ordered just to be polite but I'm pretty sure there would have been some unwanted creature or someone's bodily hair in my eggs so I definitely wouldn't have eaten anything. I don't like the owner here. I was in here drinking juice waiting on my car across the street. The owner came in, and began vulgarly abusing an employee over a sink that was left dirty the night before. Really uncomfortable and unnecessary. I wasn't eating anything, but I'm definitely not going to now. Leave your baggage at home, wether you're the owner or not. Management conversations should be behind closed doors, and that still doesn't grant anyone the right for vulgarity or threats in a professional environment. read more

The food is fairly good. But service when its busy is terrible, not to mention, if you have a hearing problem and don't hear your name called. You are publicly humiliated when you ask why all the others that came in after you are being seated. The blond at the register was happy to say that everyone else there heard her call my name, I could even ask them! Then proceeded to continue seating others. One of the waitresses tried to smooth it over and apologize for the other woman. But I will never return to this cafe again. Rude demeaning behavior like this is not acceptable. read more

Have been to this restaurant many times before, so when a freind recommended meeting here for breakfast today . . . I said great. Not really sure what has happened . . . but this place has really gone down hill. Service was a little slow . . . definitely could use more than three servers with a almost full restaurant. Food took a little longer than I remembered . . . and when it arrived . . . it was missing a pancake . . . which my server told me would be coming, since they only made two and not three. Definitely not a place for us younger folks lol. My waitress was extremely rude and very impatient with me when trying to decide what to order. She would come back and ask me what I wanted to order barely two minutes after just asking me beforehand. Not mention she shook her head at me and rolled her eyes when I wasn't ready to order. I was getting my windows tinited in the Rogue when I saw this cute little cafe across the street. So I risked life and limb and ran across the big street of Main. I was greeted by a friendly face that belonged to Gayle. After sitting and looking at the vast country style breakfasts, I decided on a special of French toast and bacon and I also wanted the biscuits and gravy. Gayle suggested getting the eggs and biscuits and gravy special and ordering French toast on the side and saved me some money. Very nice. Coffe is tasty and hot. As I love biscuits and gravy I anticipated the gravy to be so yummy. Much to my dismay it was a little bland. Nothing a little salt cant help. Eggs were cooked pretty well. The French toast was really good. The decor reminds me of being in either Kansas or Iowa. Middle America country style. I really liked the atmosphere. nic naks and broke-a-tracks all over the walls feels homey. The place is clean and doesn't seem like a hole in the wall. I like this place. A cute little gem. I came here for breakfast/brunch and it was delicious! I had biscuits and gravy with a side of home fries and a cup of hot chocolate. The biscuits and gravy were better than other places I have been to. The biscuits were cooked and not moist or floury. The gravy was also scrumptious not too many spices just good. It had bit of sausage and was great! The home fries were pieces of sliced potatoes and not greasy at all. They were excellent. The hot chocolate was also delicious. Sweet and creamy. I had to double check the address to make sure this was the same restaurant that everyone talked so highly about ..... we tried it twice and on different days and times and we came away with the same review...way too expensive for the quality and quantity. $15. for seafood platter that of course was taken out of the freezer bag and mixed vegs - same. Limp fried potatoes to go with. Mine was a horrible looking pork loin - flattened and covered with a coating that tasted quite fried. Pork chop was ok. but not worth the total price of $25. + tip. We are usually pretty fond of diners, but we were sadly disappointed when we tried Little Mesa. The decor is old but I think adds to the charm of diners, we played eye-spy with all the wonderful eclectic plates along the walls, that was fun! The staff was friendly and the service was great. The food on the other hand was very bland and disappointing. I had such hopes for my potatoes and gravy. I might go back and try the breakfast, seems like other Yelper's really liked the breakfast. We received one of those discount coupons from Restaurants.com for a gift and this was one of the places we could use it. If you don't know, Restaurants.com is a website where you spend like $25 on a gift certificate that gets you $50 in food. I think ours was a $15 and you get $25. But the policy on them about the tips being automatically added on made our meal around $50 when it should have been closer to $25 or $30 with the tip. So we ended up spending the $25 we got as a gift anyway. read more

I tried this place 3x in a year time. 2x for breakfast 1x for lunch. It was horrible each time. I wont ever go here again. Yucko. Food was nasty. The place is dusty and dirty. There is old decor. They have a plate collection on shelves above the tables and i noticed one of the shelf brackets had broken. Ready to fall any minute. I told the flighty waitress and she said, "Wow, that is bad! I will have to tell the owners". And she continued taking orders. The place smelled like a dirty restroom. We noticed the smell as soon as we walked in. Also, many older people go here. So you have to deal with their snorting and clearing there nasal passages while your eating. Older people just dont seem to care where they pass gas or blow their nose. So we had to deal with the gross sights smells and sounds while we tried to eat our nasty food. Oh, and the old rude german sounding cashier topped it off. She was snippy to the people checking out including me. She didnt even say thank you. And the display case up by the register was full of dusty handmade things that you may see sold at a flea market....in 1970. I like to give places a fair chance. I gave this place 3 chances. The servers are wonderful and warm, it looks like the place is full of lifetime patrons, which makes sitting down for a meal that much more comfortable. This place is a diner, and if you're expecting anything else you'll be disappointed. But for a diner the food is fantastic! I had the eggs and bacon with an english muffin. I ordered my eggs over very easy and they came out perfect. The bacon was thick cut deliciousness. My dad's girlfriend had the french toast and it looked amazing. My dad had pancakes and let me try a bite - fluffy wonderfulness, in my opinion. The orange juice is from concentrate, but again...it's a diner. Please expect a diner and review as such. i think this is one of those neighborhood haunts that is only appealing if you actually live in the neighborhood. i know. i have one of these places right around the corner from my house. the decor was nice enough, if not a little dated. and the staff was okay, if not a little inexperienced. but the food quality wasn't good for the price. the kids meals are a horrible value, unless you like paying $4.39 for a handful of fries and five banquet brand chicken nuggets. it's the kind of place that should serve breakfast all day but doesn't. they wouldn't allow up to use the entertainment book coupon on a holiday, which made the meal insanely overpriced. i dined with three other adults, and we all agreed that we would never go there again. read more

As a over the road truck driver, I have eaten at many places around the country where the food was marginal at best, and most of those places are better than Little Mesa Cafe. Those who have lost their taste buds and don't have anything better to do than digest their food. Everything about this place screams Robert Irvine come help. We walked in and were hit with the dated decor and peeling wallpaper. The waitress forgot our order for coffee and coke ( they only had R.C.). The food was mediocre at best I had to send back my eggs because the whites were runny ,(at least they were real eggs). Their breakfast is tasty, but without the coupon a little pricey. We used our coupon for dinner once, but it was still way too expensive, and the food was just mediocre. For lunch I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with swiss cheese and a side salad. The grilled cheese sandwich came out too greasy and the side salad was ice burg lettuce, some cabbage and croutons. No tomatoes, no cucumbers, nothing. I asked for ranch dressing and they DROWNED it. It was ranch soup with lettuce flavoring. I returned it and asked for ranch on the side. There was still too much ranch on the bottom meaning they didn't even rinse the bowl out. On the plus side the coffee is refilled and they did not charge me for the salad. read more

Anyway, The meal was again, fantastic. I had the Chicken Fried Steak meal with a salad. The chicken fried steak was prepared to perfection. The steak was actually very tender which in my mind is perfection. The crispy part was just enough without being overly too much crunch. Usually at other places I've found tough meat in their chicken fried steak. I've read how another place claims they have the "best chicken fried steak in Phoenix". Not true!!! The Little Mesa Cafe has the "Best Chicken Fried Steak." With my meal I had some tasty flavorful mashed potatoes with white gravy and fresh cut green beans. These were not the usual from the can rubbery green beans. Little Mesa Cafe serves fresh green beans. The meal was perfect because it was so good. As for the service? Well you'll never be treated better anywhere else. The servers here are fabulous. I can't remember my servers name but she had stars in her tattoo on her arm. I topped off my meal with a RC Cola. The meal was so good I'm gonna hurry back. I don't live close either. My maps app tells me they are 41 miles away from my home in Phoenix. I highly recommend The Little Mesa Cafe. read more

I ordered a BLT on rye. When it arrived it even looked unappetizing. I sent it back and the replacement was not much better. This time the bacon was only overlooked and dry, instead of actually burned. The bread wasn't replaced, and was dried out. The 2 slim slices of tomato were, well,ugly. Stopped into this little diner well I was waiting for my car to be tinted. That waitress know that I was kind of a picky eater and could not stomach grease. She assured me that the egg and steak breakfast came with a good steak. The steak was unseasoned and it appeared to be boiled with oil all over it. The potatoes on the side were greasy as well. It was one of the worst meals I have ever had in my entire life. On a positive note the waitresses were friendly, the coffee was excellent, and the bathrooms were very clean.
