Little Mesa Diner is a bit of anomaly. I was recommended by a friend and went here for breakfast. I tried the country breakfast with the extra pancakes. The meal came with potato pan fries, 2 eggs, link sausages and bacon. The food was decent and tasted as expected. Nothing surprising. None of it was custom or uniquely prepared. In my case, while the food was reasonable it wasn't hot. I've said this time and time again, but the cardinal rule it every restaurant to go from ok to excellent always starts with this one rule- serve food hot. Not lukewarm, not once the rest of the table order is done. Hot. Hot food tastes great when it us ready. Not 10 minutes later Little Mesa Diner served my food when it was already cooling down. It was not too great. Nothing is great when its warm. That said, the staff was kind and made all efforts to be pleasant and serve us efficiently. When they begin to serve all dishes hot their ratings and notability will go much higher. read more

My husband and I decided to try this place as we have lived down the road for 2 years and had never been. We went on a very busy Sunday morning and the line was out the door. We decided to wait it out and didn't end up having to wait much longer than 10 minutes to be seated. The service was very fast and very friendly. We asked for the servers opinion on the biscuits and gravy and were not disappointed at all when they came out. AMAZING biscuits and gravy. Food came out really fast. The restaurant was very homey and clean. Not your typical valley restaurant, which we LOVE as both is us are from a small town. It's like having a little bit of home in this busy city. Came here on a whim because 1. There was a pancake fundraiser for a local mother that needed help with her cancer treatments 2. I was waiting for an oil change across the street so it came in handy to eat here. So the reasons I am giving this place 1 star are 1. The service is horrible, idk if you have to be a certain race to get good service here but the old waitress seemed like she hated her job and came around our table sparingly while she visited the other tables with a smile and asked if they needed anything while we were skipped. 2. The apple juice tasted gross, super watered down and no flavor. 3. The restaurant looks so old and dirty, it was so dusty inside and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. It was cluttered inside, it felt like I was in an episode of hoarders. It was kinda cute that they had their children helping out, they had better customer service skills than that old lady serving customers. My husband and I went in for dinner last night and were totally ignored! There were 4 tables of people there and 3 waitresses. Never once did any of them acknowledge us or give us a menu. I wrote (2) reviews about this 'same' place, and both times I didn't have a good experience. So I really believe that this time, I can actually say that this could be the most thorough review. Only because there are two sides as to why this makes THIS times review GOOD and BAD. What makes this place BAD (or what COULD make this place BAD) is that when it's crowded, you can be left and forgotten about. Which I can understand that's not going to be their fault ENTIRELY. But I think they should, however, acknowledge people as they come into the door and automatically sign them in as first-come-first-served basis. That way it's FAIR and everyone can't secretively jump in front of others. They should ALSO walk outside to see if anyone is seated out there and thoroughly ask whom is whom and if they're names are on the list. Another thing that can make it BAD is the attitude of the waitresses. The first two reviews I wrote about this place was the waitress. We saw her again this morning and she still carried the same attitude as she did last time. So we can see that her attitude wasn't just based on 'us', but that she's like this with everyone. That's not a good thing. I'm sure if you asked others that work with her, they might say "Oh, that's just how ____ is." Mildly laughing, shrugging their shoulders and walking away. It's still not a good look on the entire restaurant and staff. It really shouldn't matter how well she may know the menu items, ect. Her attitude just plain sucks. Luckily, she wasn't our waitress this morning. Otherwise, I'd be giving THIS review (1) star. Now for the GOOD points about our brunch experience. It all goes to our waitress. She was so joyous, helpful, thoughtful, willing to do her job with sharing the laughter with us and other customers that were sitting around us. And I'm sure her customers were enjoying her too!! She didn't mind giving us refills, asking us if we needed anything else. And what I especially loved about her was how she found an alternative meal, being absolutely mindful of our wallets. I wanted a waffle which was about $5.++ but also wanted eggs and sausages which were about $2.++ for each as a side. I asked her if the waffles came with any eggs and sausages. She said No, and so I was instead going to order one of the specials. That's when she pointed out a meal that had a waffle, (2) eggs, (2) sausage links and (2) bacon strips for about $5.++ Better deal, right?! So I went with that. With that being said, I thanked her for looking out for us as soon as she mentioned the cost will be a lot lower. So with what I said before about this place (which can be any other place) being GOOD and BAD, it REALLY has to do with: 1. The wait time (being crowded). 2. Acknowledgement 3. The attitude of the waitress/waiter. I'm mentioning only these (3) things because they were my biggest turn-off's ever since I've been introduced to this place. Of course, there are other things like cleanliness, how quick the service is, how quick the food reaches your table, how good the food is, ect. But in our case, since those other times we came here, the service was really bad due to the waitress giving us the impression like she didn't want to be there servicing us. Not to mention, all the wait time and people cutting in front of other people, it was really BAD. So really, all my (5) stars goes to our waitress. I've been going to this restaurant for over 3 years loyally. Today was the last straw. We sat down in row 3, 1st booth around 9:15-9:20 ish am. About 10 minutes later a couple sat in row 2 right next to us, they had a different server. As my husband and I had already ordered ten minutes prior to couple next to us, we patiently waited for our food. Next thing I see is the couple next to us getting served their order. I looked at my husband in dismay thinking why were they getting their order so fast. Another 5-8 minutes goes by and we finally get our order. Well, this proves waiting is not always worth the wait. We found two long beard hairs in my husbands potatoes, couple in row 1, decided watching TV on their phone at full volume was ok to do, the waitstaff should have asked them to turn down the volume, our server was not very attentive and could use a refresher course in customer service. My husband didn't want to make a stink at the table regarding the hair, so he took the hair and brought it to our server's attention by the counter. All she could say was "oh my god", no apologies. My husband walked back to the table, with his full plate of food in front of him. We had to ask our server for a refire, as she never offered one. She also didn't offer to comp any portion of my husbands meal. I know it's not required but that is a part of something called customer service. We waited roughly waited 10 minutes for a refire. At this point, I just wanted to leave. I barely ate my food as I was upset at how this issue was addressed. I now have to find a new "coffee shop" to settle in. The service here has declined and the food quality has left much to be desired. Next time I want hair in my food and lackluster service, I will head on over here. I'm sad because I care about giving our local restaurants our business but in this age where a loaf of bread costs 5 bucks, I'm starting to become picky where I spend my hard earned cash. Last time I checked when a cook had a long beard, you supposed to wear a beard cover when preparing people food? I saw the cook, long beard just dangling over the prepared meals. If you're a minority in age, race, gender don't go here. It was stepping back into the south during the fifty's (yikes). I had multiple servers glare at me for not being prepared, the owner scawolled me from across the room for asking the server for the WiFi password. I was getting my windows tinted across the street and thought it would've been a nice place to hangout and do homework while my car was being worked on. We had never been here before and definitely won't be back. Walked in and wasn't greeted by anyone. There is no sign to seat yourself or wait to be seated. Walked up to man behind counter who said to go take a seat. Waited about 5 minutes and no one came over to give us menus or take our drink order. 5 -10 more minutes went by and a waitress came out twice to deliver food to other tables and did not acknowledge us. Another table walked in and the man seated them and gave them menus and took their drink order immediately. Few minutes later we tried to flag over the man behind the counter which didn't work. When I turned my face to see it was a medium sized german cockroach crawling all over my silverware!! This is our first time at this family run restaurant. We were seated immediately by the 12 year old grandson of the owners. My wife ordered a cheese & mushroom omelette. She asked if she could have spinach added to it. They were happy to do it. I ordered the chicken fried steak & eggs. It was huge with lots of gravy! They serve home fries instead of hash browns. Normally I do not like home fries. However, these were really homemade fried potatoes with sauteed onion & were excellent! My wife indicated that her omelette was excellent.
