With the hopes of avoiding any potential wait time, I decided to stop by on a bright, early Sunday morning at 8:30 AM. There was no line and I was seated immediately, but it was already packed (which indicates the food is top quality). Egg Cream: This chilled beverage has a beautiful appearance, especially the thick foam at the top. The ratio of seltzer, milk, and chocolate syrup were stirred perfectly. It was highly satisfying and a perfect alternative for a traditional breakfast drink. If you are not desiring the chocolate flavor, this specialty drink is also served in vanilla. BBC Omelette: This breakfast plate may have the same initials as the 24-hour news channel, but there is no relation whatsoever. This omelette was stuffed with broccoli, bacon, and cheddar cheese. These are not typically the toppings I order with an omelette, but I was feeling adventurous. It was a wise choice to explore this specialty plate because it surpasses my taste buds by a long shot. I never would have guessed broccoli and melted cheese taste well combined with an egg. A side of hash browns and toast is included. They were the backbone to the breakfast plate. In addition to a great meal, the service was impeccable. After I was seated, multiple servers checked up on me to make sure I wanted a drink. They always passed by and refilled my water glass. We go every Sunday, we call it our "church." Jeff who works the door knows we always want a booth, the ladies who host and run the checkout counter are always friendly, & the wait staff & kitchen staff always get our order right. I highly recommend ordering the fried chicken or the fried chicken tenders (whole pieces, not chicken patties)... the juiciest chicken, with the best crunch! Cute little (pretty sizable) diner that gave out that vibe of classic, booths, milkshake-sorta-vibe. We opted to share the hot honey chicken and waffles (chicken tenders) and the zucchini fries. Zucchini fries were plentiful but mostly just crust and the chicken and waffles was good - pretty fluffy and standard but nothing that stood out so much. The hot sauce/hot honey was something you drizzled on your own and the chicken was not coated in any sauce. Service was quick and cash gets you a little bit of a discount. I've been here twice in the past month and it's a really solid classic dinner. Vibes are casual old inside, not exactly cute retro if you were planning to take aesthetic pics. Prices are good and there's a slight discount to paying in cash. First time I came here I got the lamb dip sandwich and second time I got the steak sandwich. Both were delicious, solid size, came with fries. They messed up my order regretted first time but we're happy to fix it. I also go the strawberry milkshake last time, pretty good. A fairly standard diner. The menu is extensive and they deliver on target for most of that menu. They get busy but will keep things flowing. While nothing truly knocks it out of the park or goes far above and beyond, they don't miss that much nor will you be completely disappointed. The Bloody Mary was basically tomato juice and vodka, but it had a decent amount of vodka. I feel like they did the breakfast items a bit better than the lunch options. We were in a large group (6 or 8 of us) and got us seated fairly quickly, served in a reasonable time, and checked in enough for us to know they were around. I have loved this place for 20 years. Nothing on the menu will make your eyes roll in ecstasy; it's a diner. But the menu has everything. The most diverse group of picky eaters can find something to enjoy on the menu. Everything I've had ranges from ok to very good. I recommend the Cajun Chicken in particular; yum. The burgers are a solid choice as well. My wife loved the French Onion Soup. The staff are nice, and you can sit comfortably with a group, enjoying dinner and a Blue Hawaiian or mimosa for hours. The Westway Diner is a pretty typical NYC diner. It has a broad menu, and most of the items on it, especially for breakfast, are on point. Nothing amazeballs. You're not dining Michelin here, but it is a good spot that hits the spot with their food and coffee. They really move things well, and quickly so wait times are often minimal, staff is speedy, yet you don't feel rushed. The ambiance is, well, diner. It is diner booths and tables, typical heavy duty diner dishes and basic cutlery, but that's perfect for this establishment. I haven't been here in a very long time and thankfully it hasn't changed very much. I went with the Acropolis Omelette that had gyro meat. It was delicious. It came with a side of hash browns which were crispy and rye toast. I added a side of bacon "just because." Coffee refills are still free, which is great. The food is what it is, fast, tasty and filling. The prices are up but not outrageous. So I'm normally not a diner guy. The large menus kinda scare me, like they don't really specialize. However, breakfast is usually a safe bet and theirs was quite filling for a reasonable price. Hungry Man w/ Scrambled Eggs: I love variety, so this was perfect. Sausage, ham and bacon! The sausage was one thick log. The bacon pieces were long and crispy. The ham was just ham, with little grill marks. Nice and meaty with the eggs. French Toast: Not gourmet custardy, but kinda like what your grandma would make. Hearty and a good vehicle for syrup. This diner was so delicious, omg! The service was also very fast, we walked in and we were seated immediately. Very friendly staff. The atmosphere is pretty fast paced, you can have a seat at the bar or at one of their booths. I thoroughly enjoyed their red white and blue French toast. The batter they used to coat the bread is authentic and very tasty, not too sweet and not too cinnamon-y, it was perfect. My husband enjoyed him omelet as well, ate every bite. I wish I could give a negative star I'm visiting NY and thought I'd stop here for a meal - VERY BAD DECISION!! I ended up walking out! Apparently the waiter there thinks he has the right to comment on how a guest sits, what shoes they wear and what they look like! I was there listening to him making disparaging remarks about someone else - a young girl. I felt offended. I work with the public and I believe in behaving professionally at all times. While I am not a waiter - I just couldn't believe this guys behavior! Truly offensive and outrageous. He should not be working with the public in any capacity! Our first time here, we wanted diner food for dinner and this place was close to our off Broadway show we were heading to. Our server Stefanie and all of the staff were incredibly kind and attentive. You could tell right away that everyone there has BEEN there. The menu could be intimidating just because of its colossal size, but we had ample time to look through even though Stefanie came by to check. Our drinks came out fast--the ice tea is fresh. I had the stuffed tomato with tuna salad. He had the butternut squash ravioli and a cup of Manhattan clam chowder. We shared a side of waffle fries. The vibe was perfect. Some eccentric characters as the NYC diner backdrop. Otherwise, quiet, with the game on in the background so you can actually have a conversation. The food was delicious. The tomato had to have been the largest tomato clocked that week. It came out looking like they probably rarely have it ordered so the chef put their heart and soul in it. Waffle fries were crispy albeit a little greasy--possibly the oil temp had to be increased mid cook. But we wanted diner food so it all worked out. The ravioli was so tasty in a rich cream sauce. The clam chowder was clammy in very appealing way. It was stick to your ribs soup. Also, forgot to mention, the rolls were so good and halfway through the meal, I wanted some crackers for my tomato and Stefanie asked if I would want an assortment. I don't think I've ever been asked! Again, thoughtful. At the end of the meal, we wanted to share dessert. We were going to go for baklava but Stefanie had our best interests and said that it was one of the last pieces but not in a good way. I love the honesty. We decided on a slice of tiramisu instead and OH MY GAWD. It was the most delicious and decadent tiramisu I've ever had. This is the bar for me now. Anywho, loved the place, good service. If I could give Westway 10 stars, I would! First of all, I am not a snob. I don't think that if the restaurant has candle lights, high prices and a limited selection the food is any better. Over the past decade I've eaten here dozens of times. I've never had a bad meal and I've never had an overpriced meal. The menu is extensive; if you want it, they have it. We were staying near Times Square and came here for breakfast as we had heard this was where Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld came up with the idea for Seinfeld. So I was a tourist a couple of weeks back and a friend of mine met me for brunch on a Friday morning. She told me that this was the place that Larry David in Seinfeld used to eat way back when. Being a Seinfeld/ David fan, I agreed. I chatted with the guy out front for a bit, a real nice sort, and then she arrived we went inside and sat down in a booth. As it was probably close to 10:00 I ordered a sandwich a club sandwich... what I received was lackluster at best. The turkey was dry and kind of had a bit of a funky taste to it. Solo diner no line around 10a on a Friday. Requested counter seating. Service was swift and friendly and order details were accurate. However, the food itself was mediocre. The eggs were so over done they were completely brown on both sides of the omelette. The potatoes were made crispy on the outside but were actually raw. When you flipped over the crisp potato you could see the waxy raw potato and the rubbery textures confirmed in the bite. As an fyi if you pay cash there's an almost 4percent discount over card pricing all of which is clearly listed on the menu. I am staying at a hotel nearby and me and my fiance passed this diner on several occasions and were very excited to try the food here. We end up going in for lunch, the lady that seated us was attentive and brought us water right away. I decided to sit next to my fiance in the booth rather than across from him so we could people watch while we waited for our food. The second I moved, I received a dirty look from a man who was not even our waiter. I ignored it. Not even a minute later, he returns, seemingly angry. Mind you, nothing is out of the ordinary and I am looking at the menu. I shift the way that I was seated and fold my leg under the other one. The side of my shoe was touching the booth that we were sitting on. I have been to many diners and restaurants and the way that I was sitting has never offended or bothered anyone. Apparently, it really rubbed this guy the wrong way, because he looks at me, and very shortly, says, "can you get your shoes off the seat?" And I immediately nod and begin to move, and then he stalks away, adding angrily, "it's just not the proper way to sit. That's not how we do things here." Do things where?.. I was already moving. The comment was disrespectful, unnecessary, mean, and I genuinely cannot believe that someone in customer service, or better yet, someone in general, can speak to someone that way and think it's okay. Me and my fiance looked at each other, dumbfounded that we just heard that, and agreed to go somewhere else. As we left, we heard him gossiping about why we left to our waitress, claiming that "I got upset," and I think that the honest circumstances surrounding the situation is important. Totally rude and disrespectful service experienced today. We were seated and my fiancé sometimes sits cross legged with one of her legs underneath her. A male employee comes up and says "could you get your feet off the seat, that's not the proper way we sit here" in a very demeaning and disrespectful way (mind you the side of one shoe was touching the seat, it's not like she had the bottoms of her shoes were rubbing across the seat). I love Westway! Have been going there for years! It's a huge menu! They have been good about keeping prices down as much as they can! Service is quick and the waiters are friendly. There was a controversy in the fall during the election with the channel the TV's were set to... something was said in the moment from what I understand... tensions were high(they still are)... so, there's that. It's unfortunate ti have to have this caveat when I recommend Westway. But I do it anyway, because of the years of service and good food. Came here for lunch before a bway show. There was little line to get in and it was organized by a nice gentleman. Once in we were given water and coffee immediately. We ordered and service was fast even thought the place was packed. We enjoyed our meal. Sat for a little while since we had time before the show. Amazing service and food. Visited for brunch beginning of November based off a NYC travel page I follow. Definitely recommend, the service was great, I forgot the gentleman's name but he was so attentive. We arrived right at opening and had no wait time on a Saturday morning. They have a new section up top which we loved and the restrooms were so clean and well kept .
