Came on a Friday peak dinner. Was not busy. Waited at the hostess stand for 15 minutes before anyone came to get our name. There were also three other parties waiting as well. Our waitress was sweet but clearly busy. The floor was covered in food and trash throughout the entire restaurant. She had to sweep under our table while we stood there and waited awkwardly. I felt bad for her. After we got our food, she asked if we needed anything then went and got the bill and laid it on the table. Never saw or spoke to her again. We had to wander around and get our own to go box. Will probably try another location next time. The food was good, but everything else was so disappointing. read more

Wow! They know BBQ!!! I really wish I had taken a picture of my food but it looked so great that we just dug in. I had the dry rub ribs with a side or homemade chips, fried okra and hush puppies. It was a 10/10! Others at the table had bbq nachos and bbq baked potato. Everyone left absolutely stuffed. The food is so reasonably priced! My only dislike about this place is that it is far from my hometown. If I was a local this would be my place. Our waitress Calle was also incredible! She so friendly and attentive. Had a great experience ordering Little Richard's on the way up to my in-laws house in Mt. Airy. We phoned in the order from the car and the young lady answering the phone was patient and helpful. It was ready when we pulled up and when we got to the in-laws and unboxed everything it was exactly as we had ordered. BBQ was very tasty and was quite a large portion. Sides we also good. Ordered pick up through the Yelp app after hiking in Galax. We shared a two meat plate with three ribs, pulled pork, Mac and cheese, and green beans. The beans were a bit salty, but overall everything was tasty. I couldn't get enough of the Carolina Gold Sauce, especially with the hush puppies. Coming from northern Ohio we don't get to stop often, second visit, but both were outstanding! The Hush puppies, don't know what you put in them but they are fantastic and unique. I targeted Little Richards as a place for lunch as we travelled from Morehead, Kentucky to the Triangle area by way of Greensboro. Timing was perfect. We arrived at Little Richards just before noon and found a fairly new place that seemed to be pretty popular. I say new because it did not have the feel of one of those venerable old joints. I don't profess to know the deal with the various places called Little Richards, but since this one is billed at Lexington Style, I assume there is some link to one in Lexington. I started with Brunswick Stew. On the long list of things of which I lack expertise, you will find Brunswick Stew. It seems to be a 50:50 proposition whether I will like it or not. This version, I liked mainly because it was not sweet. Sweetness in balance with tart is a key, I think, and Little Richards got it about right. I might have liked just a splash of lemon. The vegetables were not cooked to complete mush and seemed to be fresher than canned Veg-All. The seasonings were good, simple and not overdone. Ms T ordered Smoked Wings as her lunch. The ordering process for these was confusing for first timers and we really did not understand the options, but with the exception of one wing that apparently was left over from another day, they were pronounced to be very good with pleasant smoke and a sweet sauce. I had to do the macho thing and ordered the large size chopped barbecue sandwich. I know better, but ate the entire thing, half of which I did not need. I was hungry, I thought. It came with good creamy slaw (you can also get BBQ slaw, I assume more Lexington style). The meat was a medium chop and was moist. There is a choice of sauces and I wanted the vinegar. This was clean, pure meat, served without any outside or brown. The pork was pretty mild, I wanted more pork flavor. Nevertheless, I added a little Texas Pete and definitely enjoyed this sandwich. My turnip greens were OK. They needed a little salt and some vinegar. They get a little turnip-y for me, I prefer collards. I rate Little Richards 3-1/2 stars. It was good, solid barbecue and a good value. I can't quite go to four stars but they can stay on my list for sure. read more

I dislike writing less than desirable reviews. With that said, my experience with Little Richard's was less than desirable. I placed an order online 2 hours prior to our guests arriving. When my husband arrived, one of the items ordered was unavailable. Instead of just refunding the item they substituted it with a less cost item because it was "too complicated" to cancel the order and place it again without the Brunswick Stew. I get it and quite frankly had they thrown in something (like say an extra sauce at 50cents) to make it equivalent I would have been a little less miffed considering they had 2 hours to contact me for a better solution. However, once the order was unpacked, there were 2 extra sauces missing (but paid for) and NO buns or hush puppies included. So while the food we did actually receive was good, the service and follow through was terrible. There are many things we have all had to adjust to over the past 18 months but I will never adjust to an establishment taking my hard earned money and giving me nothing in return. read more

We read the Yelp reviews and that made our decision easy. We were NOT disappointed. The reviews were spot on. Our server came to our table as soon as we were ready to order and our food was ready in a short time. Everything was AMAZING and they got our order exactly right! Very happy with the sandwich AND "Mayberry Takeout" delivery service in Mount Airy (they have their own easy-to-use app) who brought it to my hotel room. Really interesting brisket sandwich--Cut thin, it really had a lot of beef flavor on a high quality hoagie bun. I'm not usually a big sauce fan but theirs was very very smoky and added to the flavor of the sandwich instead of taking away from it like heavy ketchup based sauces do. Great bbq and awesome portion sizes for the price. My family of 3 can eat here for $25 including tip and still have a stack of to-go boxes to take home.
