Nowhere nearby have I found authentic Italian baked goods except for a former co-worker, whose Sicilian mother once made us delicious wine biscuits and pignoli cookies. That's what I was hoping to find today - along with biscotti, cannoli, etc. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. I got the pistachio lobster tail and a mixed box of cookies. The lobster tail was basically a crispy croissant filled with pastry cream that had no discernible pistachio flavor. Tasty but definitely more of a French pastry. The cookies were all supposedly different flavors but I couldn't tell them apart. They were a basic shortbread dyed different colors, had gummy, flavorless fillings and tasted old. There was 1 biscotti in the box and I'm sorry to say that my not at all Italian mom has made better biscotti. Definitely very pricey considering the quality. It makes me sad that there is still nowhere to get good Italian pastries here.

But turns out it just needed to be run by folks who care about what employees need. Service is impeccable as you're met with people way cooler than you at the counter. I'm sure you are the subject of deserving derision later during secret parties I'm sure they all have, but that's neither here nor there. The interior is spacious with cozy seating, offering plenty of room and workspaces if you want to spend a few hours getting things done. I went with a hazelnut latte which had the perfect balance of milk and hazelnut. What really sets this place apart from other coffee shops is the extensive food menu. Plenty of savory and sweet options to choose from. The prosciutto and goat cheese BLT on a toasted croissant was delicious. Definitely don't find items like these in many local coffee shops. A nice bonus is the alcohol service, lounge-style atmosphere, and pool table in the back if you're in the mood for a little happy hour or a drink later in the day. Solid spot all around!

Since it was a little chilly, we opted to sit inside. The vibe was lively without being loud, which I appreciated. I have a hard time enjoying restaurants where it is difficult to carry on a conversation. We ordered coffee, and it came with biscotti, which was a nice touch. I was also impressed with the menu. It had some traditional breakfast and brunch items, but also several more interesting options that made it hard to decide. I finally landed on the Deviled Egg Toast, topped with pickle slaw and served with a side salad. I was not disappointed. It was delicious. There were four of us, and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Our server, Joanna, was pleasant, personable, and attentive. Overall, Sage Mule was a great breakfast/brunch spot, and I would happily go back.

Now, the food. I had the bagel/lox and while it was tasty, it was too ornate, too complicated, with flavors which drowned the subtle lox flavor entirely. Sometimes less is more. My friend was content with whatever he had without deeming it anything remarkable. Breakfast for two came to $51 (incl tip), doubtless a sign of the times. Maybe people will remember that going out to eat used to be a treat, I suspect that would be a very good thing.

The sweet potato pancakes were really good, and the steak and eggs surprised me because the steak portion was huge and cooked really well. The avocado toast was also delicious, and even something simple like the eggs and cheese tasted amazing -- they really know how to make good scrambled eggs there. I also thought it was really cool that they had a little French market section where you can shop for French products while you're there. Most of the mimosas were really good too, and on Sundays they're only $5, which was a nice bonus. The wait time was definitely long -- over an hour and a half -- but honestly, the food and overall experience made it feel worth it in the end!

Really great flavor but I barely made it halfway through the bowl. I also ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes. They're probably my favorite thing on the menu. Taste, texture, consistency, all perfect. Tried their crepes for the first time and loved it as well. As someone who drinks coffee daily, they make really good lattes. The salted honey was that perfect balance of sweet and salty without being too much of either. This is the perfect breakfast/brunch restaurant. They're consistent, personable and efficient. Can't wait to come back and check out some new items.
