Enjoyed a delicious meal & stellar service from Mario. A wide selection made choosing difficult, but Mario gave great guidance. Not only was my meal delicious, but the Tiramasu was divine!! The whole ambience was reminiscent of an old school Italian restaurant from my childhood, so that brought back wonderful memories. Food was great! The oil for the bread was so tasty and a great appetizer- we loved how warm it was. The arrancini was also delicious- they were pretty big and so yummy. Definitely one of the better ones we've had! It took some time for our appetizer to come out but it was worth the wait. For my entree I had the chicken maranga, and they asked if I wanted it spicy (said yes!). It was so good- I could drink that sauce. Absolutely perfectly cooked chicken and so delicious. I've never had a meal like this before and this was easily one of the best I've ever had in north end. While the food was amazing and we wouldn't want a thing changed there, what lost a star was the wait. We had an 8pm reservation, and didn't get seated till almost 8:30. This was really frustrating, what's the point of a reservation if you don't get your table till half an hour later?! The only other complaint I had was that while there's no music (we liked that. Some restaurants are so loud you can't hear anyone) it still is very loud in there with the people talking as it's a small space. What an excellent experience. Busy Saturday and found a small table right away. Windows open and the city was filled with life. We started with meatball appetizer and was fantastic. Delicious home made meatballs. I had spicy chicken special and it was great. Jess has veal saltimbucco and it's the best she's ever tasted. For realz. Not only did they offer gluten-free pasta, but I believe the owner even found gluten-free bread for me as well. Stopped in here on a busy Friday night. We were lucky to beat the rush by about 30 minutes, as the place filled up quickly. We didn't have a reservation, but got a table right away. Hard to go wrong with any of the dishes here. Three of us had the bolognese, which is made with their homemade fusilli. Delicious. Our (older) kids loved the bread, too. Very friendly service. But the main reason I give this place 5 stars is because of the only dessert they offer: tiramisu. I'm a bit of a dessert snob, and THE GREATEST tiramisu I've ever had was at a small place near our house in CT. It's been years since I had one just as good and I finally found it a Lo Conte's. My wife and I live in NH and go to the theater in Boston 8 or 10 times each year. When we do we eat at LoConte's. The food is better than most Italian food we've eaten in Italy. The service is fantastic. The Waitstaff is friendly, prompt, polite, helpful and makes you feel like you belong and are appreciated. Ambiance is similar to many restaurants we've enjoyed in Italy; fun, comfortable, at times a bit loud, but that's because everyone is enjoying a great meal with friends. read more

Food, service and ambiance were fantastic! My husband has a wheat allergy and they were very accommodating! We had gluten free calamari that was light and crispy. I'd suggest ordering it gluten free even if you can have gluten! The oil and cheese that came with the bread had sweet heat and the bread was warm - regular for me and fresh out of the oven gluten free for my husband. I had the seafood special and he had the Cioppino, again with gluten free pasta. Our waiter, Jorge, was great and suggested we try the fresh made pastas next time, and we will! I came here with my friend for dinner on a Thursday night. I had the meatball appetizer and the sautéed broccoli. The meatballs were described on the menu as being served with garlic crostini, and while they did have a breadcrumb topping, they were not served with crostini (other than the complementary table bread, which is not the same). The meatballs themselves were good, but very salty. The broccoli was overcooked and seemed steamed rather than sautéed. Our waiter was nice, but this was certainly not my favorite meal in the North End. I would not come back. read more

I have lived in Boston proper for over 30 years and spend much of the 90s living in the NE. I remember when Lo Conte's first opened and other establishments were offering huge portions of pasta and had lines out the door. Growing up in an Italian household I appreciated quality over quantity, let's face it pastas cheap. I was drawn to Lo Conte's and have been a staunch supporter of Carla and her staff ever since. I'm embarrassed that I don't frequent the restaurant as often as I would like since I moved to South Boston in 2004, but I get back as often as I can and often recognize staff that has been there for over 30 years. The food is always top notch with healthy portions and is my go to for veal brocciolitine, chicken broccoli ziti, sauted spinach to name a few. Carla and the staff have always been inviting attentive and remain one of the best authentic Italian restaurants in the NE. I have been referring friends and colleagues there for years and they have never been disappointed. I was sorry to see some disparaging reviews because I know first hand the high quality of the food and the care that Carla and her staff put into the customer experience, it's not easy. If you are looking for an enjoyable night of good food and professional staff, run don't walk to Lo Conte's... and if you see Carla, tell her Bob in Southie says hello! read more

Came on a very busy Friday night. Line wasn't as long as their neighbors so we decided to give it a try. I quickly made a reservation for 5 minutes from the moment we got there. They called to sit within 10 minutes despite the line and thank god because my children were starving at 6:45 pm. It did take a bit of time for waiter to get to us (15 minutes) but we were ready to order when they got there. The braised beef ravioli is probably the best thing I have ever tasted. They forgot about us outside and started seating people who just walked in with no reservation before us. Bad start. The food well made up for the mishap at the Hostess stand. I'm a North End resident. We got an ice cream from North End Creamery directly across the street and sat down on the bench in front of Lo Conte's because no one was on it and there was no one at all waiting at this restaurant. As we sat, we noticed there was a laminated Lo Conte's menu on the ground. My wife, not wanting the menu to get dirty or trampled, kindly picked it up, placing it under her leg as we sat so that it wouldn't fall again (there was no where else to put it). The manager guy comes charging out (or whoever he was, an older man) and was openly frustrated at us. He asked if we were coming in to eat, and we said no, we were just eating ice cream, and we asked if it was OK if we sat on the bench? Instead of providing a "yes" or "no" or anything reasonable, he was flustered, hemming and hawing about how it's probably not a good idea but also not directly asking us to leave. He was unsure what to say yet visibly frustrated we were breaking some invisible rule unknown to us (there were no signs or anything indicating this small two-person bench was limited to patrons). He then accused my wife of sitting on his menu and why was she doing that? Ruining his menu? He was antagonizing her without knowing she had done something kind for him, rapidly escalating an interaction that could have been a simple conversation. Put off by his behavior, I then asked directly "Do you want us to leave?" To which he angrily replied "yes yes, leave, this bench is for people who are waiting." So: instead of using his words to express his feelings or communicate with us like an adult, he approached us with needless hostility while also not clearly indicating to us we were doing something he considered wrong (or why). I'm not a tourist. I respect this community and the people that live and work here. I will never go to this restaurant and I will tell everyone I know to never go here (unless being mistreated by old men that act like cranky babies is your thing). read more

In Boston for spring break. We knew we wanted to eat Italian food so we headed over to the north end. We tried going to several other restaurants, but they all had over an hour wait. We happened to walk into this place and we were able to sit down right away. Wow! We got lucky! The bread and butter were delicious, all of our food was perfect. We were very disappointed to walk into restaurant to find out that they closed kitchen due to staffing issues with no notice to us and could not seat us for our reservation. Very busy Saturday night and It was I possible to get a new reservation. We were very disappointed that Lo Conte never called us in advance to notify us. I really wanted to love it. I need to return for a second try. This is a multi visit favorite for my local friend. Great service. We never wanted for anything. I tried the chicken parmesan. The chicken and veal plates come with either ziti or linguine. I had the ziti. The chicken wasn't enjoyable. Maybe it was a bad cut. The sauce was very good. Loved the ziti on the side. Overall, minus the chicken, it was a great dish. No outside seating. We had a great corner table at the door with views of the street. It is off the main street which cuts down on the foot traffic.
