I can't believe it has taken me this long to write a review on Loconte's! This is my go to spot in the North End! I lived in the North End for 2 years, so I have tried more than a handful of restaurants down there, and this one is hands-down my favorite. To start off the service is exceptional, everyone there is so nice and attentive. Go there more than once and guarantee the staff will remember you and treat you like family! Now.. the FOOD, its all AMAZING! the portions are huge and mouth watering! there is literally not a bad item on the menu. to list some of my favorites though are: -House Salad... I normally have the rule to not go to restaurants with more than 15 items in the menu. Because for a mid size mid price restaurant the only way of affording that is not having best food. We did an exception with this one because it was a gift. But the result was, not good food (huge portions tho), and food that was a little but below okay. The service was fast but pretty rude... Visiting Boston from out of state, we were excited to be able to dine in the historic North End in early Oct 2019. We should have noticed the clue that Lo Conte was absolutely empty, while other restaurants had long wait lines. We were hungry and didn't want to wait... The only waiter spent most of his time sitting at the back table playing with his phone. He was not excited about us being there and offered no personality or friendliness. There appeared to be only one cook. The food was very ordinary and actually quite plain. The waiter added his own tip to our bill which was fine. It was much less than we normally tip. read more

One of my go-to restaurants in the North End. I'm a pesto freak, so in college, I did an intense search for restaurants in the North End that actually serve pesto (I don't know too much about the origins of certain Italian cuisine, but I could have sworn that pesto was a pretty big dish there...not sure why I had such a hard time finding it in the North End). Luckily I found Lo Conte's, because I am a big fan of their tortellini pesto. The portion is HUGE, so I always have leftovers for lunch the next day. Actually, the tortellini tastes almost better the day after. I usually take friends and family here, and while it's not the best Italian meal I've ever had, it is definitely delicious and the atmosphere is great. read more

Going to North End is in itself a nightmare because it's hard to find parking, going in and getting out take 30 mins via Hanover st but this time on the recommendation of my friend we went to Loconte's. We absolutely loved this place and the food was excellent. This was first time ever we actually ate at an Italian restaurant in North End and it was a great experience. This place has a really cool, laid-back atmosphere. The staff is friendly and willing to offer recommendations. The complimentary bread was warm and fresh. Our table of four all ordered different entrees, so we could taste as much as possible. Every dish we ordered was presented and seasoned well. The flavor of the fresh herbs definitely stood out. We ordered the Chicken Arrabbiata, Chicken Cacciatore, Chicken Saltinbocca, and Veal Brocciolitine. It's been years since I have been to LoConte's and it won't be long before I return back to this North End delight. A Saturday evening in the North End is always magical but having a chilly night outside, a warm and comfortable restaurant inside with family made for a perfect night. Chicken broccoli and Ziti, The seafood special and a huge appetizer portion of the Caesar salad were the entree's we chose for the night. I picked from everyone's and I was glad I did. The night started with a nice reasonable priced bottle of red wine $34, some bread and oil to dip it in and a Tomato and mozzarella appetizer with prosciutto, all a perfect way to start the night. The waitstaff provided us with great service considering we were the only 4 top upstairs and they were dealing with larger parties (8 on one table and 14 on the other). After the meal we all had cappuccino's, finished off the bottle of wine and left the restaurant feeling like we were family with everyone saying good night. We left and walked over to Lyndells for a black and white to take for the walk back to the car. read more

I sit here digesting my lunch from LoConte's and it was deeelish. The farfalle alla siciliano is incredible. The pasta was a tad overcooked, but I love the strong, bright, red sauce and the well-cooked eggplant. Went with a table of 5 and there were positive feelings all around. Boyfriend got the Ciopinno; I hada few bites and it was very high-quality, well-cooked seafood. The service could have been faster, and it was awkward walking in at 1:00pm with all the waiters seated at a table, no one getting up to seat us, but overall the food was great. Lo Conti is a lovely, unassuming North End restaurant. (I'm not exactly wild about North End restaurants - they all kinda blend to me and not one is particularly outstanding - but out of town guests always seem to want to go.) But here's a tip: go at lunchtime. The prices are much lower, but the portions are still huge. I'm pretty sure one entree portion can serve three. It's also not crowded. A few drawbacks, however: 1.) All seafood options include shrimp (and very few fish offerings), 2.) They seem to use the same sauces on a variety of dishes (which is fine, of course, unless everyone orders the same one and you wanted to share), 3.) not the most professional service in the world (although not terrible - it appears as it is run and operated by one family - evidenced by kids folding napkins and playing on a laptop at a nearby table [a aspect one of my party members found endearing and "authentic" - personally, I don't like feeling like imposing on someone's living room.]) All and all, the food is pretty decent and certainly satisfies the North End demands. read more

Everyone has their favorite restaurant in the North End and this is probably mine. I have been here at least 12 times over the past three years and have never been disappointed. The food has always been great, the portions huge and the price in-line with the rest of the neighborhood. As with most places there are a few downfalls - It gets crowded and some of the tables aren't the greatest. If you are seated in the main dining room it is a tight fit and people coming in and out can be somewhat annoying. In the wintertime the table by the door is not recommended. The service can be hit or miss. There are always others walking around to fill water or get more bread if you want it but you won't always get the most personable server. I think they only have like one or two desserts but I mean, you are in the North end so walk over to a pastry shop. Now for the positives - it is not on the main strip which is great. It still gets crowded but waiting outside isn't as bad as being on Hanover with 100 people walking by you on the crowded sidewalk. As I mentioned, the food is great. I always get the tomato basil app but the antipasto and calamari are nice too. The Chicken Brocciolitine is sooo good and with the giant pieces they give you, you have to take it home. They will also customize a dish for you which not all places will do. There is a decent selection of wine and the prices aren't terrible for a bottle. I think the menu provides wine suggestions for meals which is good for me since I am certainly no connoisseur. Overall, if you are looking to venture off of Hanover or try a new place in the North End, I would definitely recommend LoConte's. But be careful not to walk right by it as I have several times! read more

Took a walk around the North End with no destination in mind. We ended up here because the prices were reasonable and we like the looks of the menu. We waited awkwardly in the vestibule unsure if we should seat ourselves or wait to be seated...that was just the beginning of the nightmarish service. We were finally seated at a table that was not set, but simply had enough place settings for our party. After waiting nearly 10 minutes, our waiter came by and brought us water and took our order. He seemed a bit annoyed by the fact that we were there... While we waited for our food, bread and oil arrived. The bread was clearly old and dried out, but the oil with cheese, spices and balsamic was great. When our food arrived we were pleased. Fettucini with chicken and chicken parm. Both were top notch and paired well with the house wine. The food was really, really good. The thing we couldn't overlook was the service. It wasn't even mediocre, it was horrible. I asked 3 times for a refill of my empt water glass before it was taken care of and our bread and oil to enjoy with our meal NEVER arrived. Bottom line is this: when you spend $70 on dinner, the service shouldn't suck. The food was very good, but the utter lack of attention to service makes this place hard to stomach. read more

My boyfriend and I were in search of pesto pasta and we were originally going to go somewhere else but they had a line out the door and when I turned around I saw LoContes and immediately wanted to go there since that's my best friends last name. We walked in and were immediately seated (we didn't have reservations) and the waiter gave us bread with butter and oil. They had great wine options and they had pesto tortellini. My personal favorite in the North End. Usually can get a reservation which is great in the North End. Food is constantly great with trying over 10 dishes and more than that with friends. I like spicy and the Chicken Arribatta(not how its really spelled) is a 10. I think places should treat regulars well and they lack that. I have lived next to the place for 3+ years. We have tried many resturants in the northend but last we went to Locontes and I have to say it was amazing! The staff was great and the owner was awesome. She made us feel like we where at our Italian family event . Don't bother going anywhere else, try the red sauce, you won't find anything better in all of the northend. Try the mussel apps. And the seafood special. My father in-law had the shrimp cacciatore and he's till raving about it. Don't bother waiting in line at Giacamos only to be rushed out. The food here was fantastic. They have some great classic dishes and a great wine list. The Caesar salad was extremely tasty (and big enough to share)! Lost a star for the dirty, sticky, wiggly table that they stuck us at in the back, which they clearly hadn't cleaned after children sat there, and the waiter forgetting several of our appetizers, which we had to remind him about. read more

Sorry--if I had reviewed it the fist 2 times we came it would have been a 4 or 5, but on our 3rd visit it was a 3. Waiter was rushed, had to ask for bread when we saw the other tables had theirs (it was very good though) then had to ask for the oil to dip it in 5 minutes later. My meal of lobster ravioli was lukewarm so I could tell it was sitting there while they finished preparing the meals for the rest of my party because theirs were piping hot. Also, the sauce it was in I would not describe as a cream sauce. Next time we're in the North End we'll try another restaurant since there are so many to choose from. read more

Wasn't a very good experience. I ordered the Mushrooms and Artichoke chicken and the mushrooms were clearly out of a can. They were monochromatic grey and all the same size and shape. The wine sauce was tasty but my chicken was overcooked and had a rubbery texture to it. My wife had the chicken parm and it was good (although chicken coated in sauce and cheese should be very tough to not get right) If you're ever seated upstairs you should just decline to eat there and find a new restaurant. Our table for two was really a table for four with closeness of the table next to us. All of the tables up there are jammed together a drink was spilled all over a customer two tables over when a new group tried to navigate past to their table in the back. Overall, if you're going to head into the North End for dinner, there are better experiences to be had. read more

I'll say this place was mostly good but had a few issues. There wasn't much of a wait when we stopped there but we (4 of us) ended up at a table in the corner which was a tight fit. We were also beside their "unused" door but people would use it to exit which was a blast of cold air in the wintertime and required us to move aside so people could get through. This place is ok. There are better places in the North End for food, and for service. The portions are large, but past that nothing special. We were able to sit right away, we did have a reservation and that was good. The bench wasn't the best, I would recommend chairs if I had the choice. We got the calamari and shrimp app, chicken parm, eggplant parm, a veal dish and an alfredo dish. Everything was fine, portion size was great. Our food came pretty quickly. Had an excellent meal here last night. Started off with bread with olive oil, a caprese prosciutto salad with fresh basil, and some shrimp scampi. Everything was executed well except for a slight mishap on the caprese, it was served with raw red onion on the side, im not sure if it was meant as a garnish, but i ended up topping the tomato with it and it was a little aggressive. My entree was the Gnocchi with Veal which was cooked perfectly, veal with tender, the gnocchi were light and fluffy. Perfect way to start your night before a Bruins or Celtics game! read more

It was nice to find another decent Italian eatery in the North End. The wait staff was awesome and the food was decent. I'll get the point and give the play by play highlights. The mixed green salad with goat cheese, dates and cranberries for starters was awesome. The calamari was not. It was crisp enough, but had little of no flavor. I've had a lost worse; I've also had a lot better. They were a little to doughy for my palate. The main courses were good with very generous portion sizes. Was it off the charts? Not really. I think they can use a heavier hand with the seasonings to pack more punch (salt/pepper?) My measure of a really good dining experience is that I'll remember the food well several days after the meal. They don't quite make it to that standard. The room itself was definitely on the load side. Sound-wise, it was like eating in a combination bowling alley/school cafeteria. You basically had to yell at each other to be heard (which can be quite therapeutic...) If you are looking for a great quiet date spot, this isn't for you. Bottom line is would I balk at eating here again? No. Would I make it one of my all time favourite destinations in the North End? Nope Is it good to take the family for reasonably priced eats; definitely. read more

Went to this North End restaurant with some friends in Boston. We had a big group and they were great to take us. Service was fine but nothing special. The food was really good with large portions for everyone. I don't think anyone finished their food. Prices seemed decent for the food. Neat thing was this seemed off the main street in the neighborhood and a little less touristy than other places. When we walked in, no host tables or any one waiting. This was a nice quiet little restaurant. Granted we took an out of town friend here on a Wednesday after 8pm, so it was us and 2 more parties in the whole restaurant. There is a variety of entrees to choice from but there did seem to be a lack of a fish option (but plenty of shrimp dishes). The fried calamari was fresh and quite tasty, the pasta entrees were huge and the service staff very pleasant. The only negative would have to be that once our table was cleared the check was brought over immediately without any offer of coffee or dessert. Too bad :-( read more

My friend and I ordered take-out here one evening with an expected bill of $25. When we went to pick up our food, it was a shocking 10+ dollars more. "WTF?" we asked ourselves. We told the man that their online menu listed incorrect prices. He pompously stated, "Well, it hasn't been updated in two years," as if we were in the wrong for some reason. This is my husband's go-to North End restaurant, so if he were writing the review, he'd probably give them four stars. However, I am not as enamored. The food is a little too heavy for my tastebuds, but it is still pretty tasty. The lobster ravioli are also really good the next day cold. Service is decent. Came here on a Saturday night at 6pm, a busy time to come to the North End. Lines at every Italian restaurant are always so long at that time, and you are bound to get rushed service everywhere. But...we were in the area and hungry. We sat on 2nd floor. Waiter brought us the complimentary bread. Tables next to us got an herb plate to mix with oil for the bread. We did not. We pointed to the other tables and asked if we could get the same. The waiter finally brought it to us. Food: Our group got the lasagna, Chicken cacciatore, and the pesto tortellini. All tasted good, although the staff did not bring pasta with the cacciatore, which I thought was again forgetful (menu says "All of the above orders served with a side of ziti or linguine".) The waiter didn't even ask him what type of pasta he wanted, which should have been our early red flag that pasta was not coming. Wine: Again, typical North End overpriced stuff. Cheapest bottle cost about $33. I don't know how you can distinguish one north end place from another. The food never seems to be worth what you pay for it, nor does the service. read more
