Shrimp and grits. I'm picky and this passed the test. Roll just a roll didn't eat it.

Can never go wrong with good ol Chicken & Waffles. This location has ample parking and was fairly empty when I arrived. Customer service was great though, my waitress didn't mention any of the happy hour specials to me until I inquired. I ordered the Toy Toy which included two chicken wings and one waffle which was more than enough for me. I also added blue kool-aid which came in a large mason jar and an order of blackened shrimp deviled eggs. All were the good taste of a home cooked meal to me. And thanks to the waitress for the glass of water as well because the kool-aid was a bit on the sweet side.

My daughter & I went yesterday evening and enjoyed our meal. I hadn't been since they changed locations - I really like the space they're in. There was no wait when we arrive but still a good sized crowd there. We were seated and our server came right over. We got our blue Kool-aid and reviewed the menu. My daughter wanted to try the hot honey shrimp deviled eggs so we got 2 and she ate them. I'll take her word for it that they were good because I didn't get to have one. Lol I ordered the two wings + waffle and she got the 3 pieces + 2 waffles. No complaints on the food... delicious.

My goodness this place crazy packed today. Not sure if it's cuz of Sunday but I had to get my food to go cuz of the wait was so bad. But I would prefer not to hear all that secular music anyways. Actually my first time here. And found out from their shirts they had several of these. Even in other states. The food was good. I can't believe how many black people gave it bad reviews. I gave it a good review and I didn't even like the atmosphere. Felt like walking into a club which I don't do. I had both fried and blackened catfish. Both was good. Too much salt in that butter dip tho. That biscuit gotta be the best one I ever had. And it didn't flake up and break like all the others. Only other place like that is babes chicken. They make they greens just like I make mines in chicken broth. I know that taste anywhere. Prices was insane. Almost 5 bucks for a large Dr Pepper. I can get two 2 liters for that price. I could deal without that loud music playing. Who in the world needs music to eat? I really hate this about most restaurants. And can't stand a bar atmosphere either. As I don't drink. Can't even stand the site or smell of it. Other than that it was good eating.

We've passed by this location many times and finally decided to pop in since we were in the area. There's plenty of parking around this location and we arrived before dinner rush so were seated right away! The restaurant is clean and the staff was very friendly! We came during happy hour so grabbed a few drinks and the fried green tomatoes. The drinks were good but needed more alcohol. The fried green tomatoes were a good too but I wasn't a fan of the sauce it came with. We shared the soulfood platter, which came with plenty of food for the two of us. The catfish and chicken had really good flavor on the batter and the collared greens were probably our favorite thing of the meal. The fries tasted either refreshed or undercooked and the cornbread and biscuit tasted reheated as well. I think if we got the food fresh, it would be better.

I finally made it here with my husband and mother-in-law, and it did not disappoint! The food was absolutely delicious, and our server was amazing--so sweet and super knowledgeable about the menu. The vibe was perfect too; their playlist was full of 90s R&B, which happens to be my favorite. For an appetizer, we tried the shrimp deviled eggs--so good! I ordered the catfish with mac and cheese and collard greens, and it was incredible. My husband also went with the catfish, paired with okra, and loved it. The drinks were just as tasty, and I especially loved the big mason jars they serve them in. We enjoyed it so much that we came back the very next day and even asked for the same server--Cathy. Her service is truly A1! I only wish they had one of these restaurants in New York, but I'll definitely be back whenever I'm in Texas again.

This place always hits the spot! Chicken was crispy and juicy! Their waffle is top tier, idk what's in the batter they use but it's delicious. Oh and they got Kool-aid!! Be ready for a nap afterwards. Service is always great too!

Went to visit my friend in Texas, this was also my first time in Texas ever. He told me about this cool little brunch spot to grab a bite to eat at. Thankfully he made a reservation and I recommend you do as well. Walks ins are welcome but it will be a wait. The energy of this place was great including how amazing our waitress was. She was very patient and was knowledgeable of the menu. She was also helpful in guidance of what I should have as a first timer there. Got the chicken and waffles which was $14 for the plate. If you get the traditional combo of the drum and thigh it will be $11 instead. Both very reasonable. The chicken was succulent, and juicy and fried to perfection. Super flavorful and well sized. And they have their own hot sauce that meshes with the meat perfectly. Also really good waffles as well. Cooked well but still a bit soft on the inside. They put cinnamon and sugar in the waffle as well, which was a nice touch. The butter also seems like it's either really high quality of locally made. So rich, and creamy. Highly recommend if you are in the Dallas or Irving Texas go eat and enjoy.

Looking for a brunch in Dallas area. This place was advised by friends and family. Ambiance: By the first look, I can tell this place replaced a Mimi's Cafe and it was great to know that this was a black own restaurant. Unfortunately, I do not prefer music being so loud that it is hard to talk with your party, the waiter, and just waiting in the lobby area. In addition, some of the booth areas need to be updated or have better cushions. Service: There were 3 hosts, and they seem to be more concern about pushing people through instead of actually greeting customers as they come through the doors. I was aware of the wait time which could be really busy on weekends. My waiter Ebony was very nice but unfortunately, it was overwhelming because of the number of tables that were assigned to her at the time of service. With that being said, it took some time to even get water brought to the table. Also, there was no greeting to come back and have a nice day leaving. Food: After ordering my food, it took about 1 hour to have my food to come out for a party of 4. Unfortunately, the food was not blazing hot, and it was just warm. My omelet was really big, but home fries were a little burnt for me. I tried the Kay Kay meal as well and the waffles were just okay as well. Did not get a refill on my water. There was a pretty selection of breakfast, brunch and lunch options and price is around $20 - $35. Overall: It was just okay. I think they could work on their customer service and turn the music down to be more of a background noise instead of being like in concert and can't hear your party or waiter talking. In addition, hope they can work on the cook time or advise the customer on the cook time as well.

I've always enjoyed coming here and often bring family and friends when they visit. Unfortunately, this visit was a completely different experience. My husband and I drove from Frisco for lunch, and from the start, our waitress seemed rude and irritated while I was trying to order. The interaction was uncomfortable enough that my husband chose not to order at all. When the food arrived, my chicken was cold and the waffles were just okay. Between the service and the quality of the food, it was very disappointing. I'm hoping this was just an off day, but it will be a while before we return. Customer service and food quality both need improvement.

This place in Texas IS what Roscoes used to be. The flavor, the culture, the Service. This was the last place we are before leaving Texas and it was really good. The Chicken was fried perfectly and the Waffles were absolute delicious. When I come back to visit this is a definitely must stop. Grits are not seasoned but I get why they were not. Salt is different from person to person. Not to mention that even a little is you much for some. Absolutely no problem with that decision. In fact, serving it this way made me conscious of my user of Salt which my Doctor would appreciate. Everything we had was very enjoyable and a must return on my next visit. Yall'hollaatchaboy!

Absolutely loved this place! From the moment we arrived, the service was truly amazing--attentive, friendly, and welcoming. The food was so good, full of flavor, and clearly made with care. Parking was open and convenient, which made everything stress-free, and I really appreciated that it's kid-friendly as well. This spot checks all the boxes and is definitely worth visiting again!

Who can remember what used to be in this location? It had kind of a Sunday Brunch / French countryside vibe to it. Omelettes come to mind.

    It was Mimi’s Cafe.

I need reservation for tomorrow at 11 am?

They don't make reservations. You must get in line on YELP. It will let you know the anticipated time for you to be seated.

Are you actually open yet in your new location?

Yes they are open. The new location is great, you should check it out sometime!

Just to the right of the sign were two Level 2 chargers. We each ordered two 2 meat plates, which included two sides. When we got home and opened the to-go boxes, we realized we had WAY over-ordered. We had enough for two meals for each of us! We had chicken and pork ribs, mac & cheese and flat green beans. It was very tasty with a sweet and spicy barbecue sauce. I spoke with the owner and thanked him for supporting EVs, to which he replied, "How could I not? It's what's coming. How could I not get on board?" He mentioned that quite a few of his customers found him on Plugshare.com and stop by regularly for a meal and charge. I had to Google "So mote it be."

I genuinely want this place to succeed, which is why I still give it chances every so often. Today (Feb 24, 2026) I stopped in with my daughter just to pick up sides. Many menu items were unavailable (we were told no greens), so we ordered cabbage, sweet potatoes, and cornbread. The total was about $15 and I paid $20 and told him to keep the change as a tip. Unfortunately, the food quality was disappointing. The cabbage was essentially plain steamed cabbage -- very underseasoned and more like cafeteria vegetables than braised southern cabbage. I actually had to go home and re-season and cook it further just to make it edible. The sweet potatoes tasted good, but they had a noticeable smoky/BBQ odor, like they had absorbed grease or smoke from the kitchen environment. The cornbread itself was very good, but the portion was extremely small -- basically a sample-sized piece. Considering I tipped $5 on a small order, it would have been nice to include an additional piece or two. The biggest ongoing issue, though, is consistency. Over the years the restaurant is frequently out of items and the quality varies visit to visit. The dining/kitchen area is also visibly worn and could really benefit from a deep clean and upkeep. I truly say this respectfully because I remember how good this place used to be. The potential is still there, but right now the food and overall experience don't match the prices being charged.
