Totally bummed out with the Ube ice cream here. I was really looking forward to trying it out based on the rave reviews. I brought my mom in since this flavor is her favorite and she was equally disappointed. Absolutely no flavor, so you feel even more guilty eating all those calories. It left our tongues purple and our tastebuds dissatisfied. Perhaps it was a bad batch, but it was enough for us to never want to eat at another Loard's for the rest of our lives. The inside of the shop looks pretty run down as well, like the booths and wall paint haven't really been updated in years. Do yourself a favor and make the trek to Cookie Bar Creamery on Webster (maybe a 5-10 min drive) and try their Ube - you won't regret it. read more

Great ice cream shop - lots of unique flavors, and plenty of parking. We stopped here and got a pint of blueberry cheesecake flavor that won third place (behind jeni's pistachio honey and a homemade berry) in a ice cream social tasting party we went to. read more

I normally get the single or double scoop of blue bubble gum or butterscotch. Depending on whose serving you, you may get a little petite cup (from the old Asian man) or if your lucky, a young lady will give you a decent sized portion. Prices are cheap (similar to Tuckers) and there blue bubblegum is just as good @ Fenton's. Tables are usually available to sit and lines are short every time I go. Loard's is my main spot for ice cream because its cheap, local and served with the quickness. read more

Like Tucker's I've been going to Loard's since I was a wee little sprite. The thing I love about Loard's is they make their own candy and one of the last surviving places that makes rock candy- a REALLY hard find. Went here on a Monday afternoon and found that after 18 years of searching for a decent lemon custard, my prayers had been answered. Theirs is so flavorful and creamy it brought back fond memories of childhood. It's very tough to find ice cream that taste like it's name suggests instead of just sugar. Loard's does a wonderful job. This location also has a Ms. Pac-Man sit down game in the front of the store, fun!! read more

It's scary how many times a month we go to this place. I have one word.... UBE ICE CREAM (purple dessert from heaven). Great service, super delicious specialty ice cream, awesome old soda fountain shop feel to it complete with vintage juke box and historic photos of old Alameda. Great customer service. Our kid is allergic to nuts and they always make sure to give him a clean fresh scooper for his ice cream and are always very helpful with these requests for him which we really appreciate. Their orange sherbet is the best! My family has been going here since the 1960s. It's a real gem that continues to offer great ice cream and atmosphere even as the rest of Alameda has been transforming around it. read more

Try their "Halo Halo Ice Cream". I personally prefer with ice cream vs ice. Its so good and you can select the type of ice cream you want. I order mine with mango & halo halo flavor. Plenty of parking since its in the South Shore mall. They now have outside seatings and it can get crowded depending on weather.. read more

We were pleased to find an ice cream place on a hot Saturday that was not crowded. The sundaes should be shared unless you are a very large person who doesn't care about diabetes. Dear God this place is amazing. Delicious ice cream, friendly service, old-school location. I couldn't decide what to order so the smiling employed behind the counter asked me what I usually liked, gave me some suggestions and a sample, and then served me some of the tastiest ice cream I've had in years. Butterscotch was superb, and my girlfriend's order of green tea ice cream was amazing, it tastedblike green jazmine tea instead of the usual generic matcha flavoring. We love Loard's Ice Cream, but not the conditions of the store. Floors are filthy, dust and debris accumulated on vents above ice cream cases & noticed mold in area where they store their ice cream scoopers. Discussing conditions. Take some time and clean your store. read more

I was visiting the Bay Area after living there a few years and decided to take my family and meet up with friends there. The environment was nice but the owner probably, an older Asian woman, came up to my table at 9:00 pm telling us "We close at 9:00 pm." We all get up and leave the ice cream parlor thinking they're closing, and she goes on and turns off the lights to the front of the shop, reinforcing that indeed they are closing. We spend time outside talking and realized that no indeed they weren't closing, she kicked us out! She turned the lights back on when we walked out and attended other customers coming in and never approached any of the other tables. Not sure if it was because we were a group of Latinos amongst non-Latinos in the establishment at the time it it really upset us. I don't recommend this place especially after this experience. read more

This place has the best ice cream in the area! The staff are always polite and very nice. The portions have always been generous. The Coconut is wonderful, the Rocky Road is awesome and the Banana is Fantastic. These are just a few of the great flavors they have. read more

This may sound boring but I love their vanilla ice cream. It's perfectly tasty and creamy. We live right on the hill within walking distance to Loard's. It's so great to be able to take a quick walk there with the kids in the summertime. Sure beats Baskin Robbins. Their sundaes are pretty awesome too. read more

Loards is okay. The ice cream is not the best, but if one really needs ice cream, go here ( although Tucker's Ice Cream is very close by ). And the workers are nice but not all the time. One day my friend and I went, she had to use the bathroom and since we were there why not? We asked but the worker refused because "it was her bathroom" and she didn't want anyone to touch it. My friend really needed to use the bathroom and said it was an emergency, but the woman persisted to not let anyone near it. I understand it was a employee bathroom, but if someone has to use the bathroom you don't think they should be able to use it? The ice cream itself is not very good, the staff is usually not too excited about their job. I don't expect them to have a little dance or anything but maybe a little simple conversation or at least look like they care. This doesn't go to all employees though, many are fantastic. Overall, Loards is a decent ice cream parlor, but if given anther choice, I would choose the other choice. read more

I love Loard's Ice Cream. It's waaaaaaaaay better than Tucker's or Fenton's. They also have an abundance of tropical flavors but I typically stick with the sundae options which are never disappointing. Make sure to stop by here if you're at S. Shore Center and you will be glad you did. read more

I was going to get the coconut ice cream and the lady behind the counter encouraged me to try the ube flavor. I felt like I was sold on the coconut and I wasn't sure about the ube but I'm so glad she offered it because it is my absolute favorite now. No ube ice cream I've had compares to Loard's. Plus it's bright purple. Anyway, I love that lady for changing my ice cream life. read more
