This was our first time at Loard's Ice Cream in Potrero, and we were quite happy! The ice cream is tasty, the setting is old fashioned and welcoming, and the service is warm and friendly! I was pleasantly surprised that the "single" / small serving included two scoops of ice cream! It's a generous portion for $5.99. That said, I think a "junior" or "kids" serving of a single scoop for $5 or so would be a great option for them to offer - higher margin for them, less sugar for the kids, and less calories for the adults. :) Just a suggestion to consider! read more

Such a cute place next to where I live! Stopped here while on a walk with my partner and we decided to share 2 scoops of ice cream. Super large scoops and we even got to try some of them before committing. The staff was really nice and let us take our time with the order and weren't pushy. Don't go for sandwiches. I chose this place based on the generally positive reviews and put in a pickup order. What actually happened was I showed up 20 minutes later and there was a single woman working (poor woman, might've been her first day) who proceeded to be confused about the ordering systems, take my order while looking at the screen to remember what was on the sandwiches, and then take 15 minutes to prepare two sandwiches (which ended up missing items that were supposed to be on them). If you don't have enough staff to handle sandwich orders (which are generally way more complicated than ice cream orders) then don't offer them! It's one of those cases where offering more is actually offering less! read more

Looking for bad customer service? Look no further. Came in, were the only customers, and the man behind the counter couldn't seem more annoyed that we were interrupting their day. I asked for an item they had prominently listed on the giant menu above the counter and he said "no we don't hand-pack quarts here only next door". I've never been here before so I had no idea what next door meant since there was no shared door. Then he said "see the sign" and pointed at a piece of printer paper, that looked like a child's drawing, taped on the display counter and curling in on itself. Clearly he was bothered so we decided to leave. Wonder why they don't just remove it from their main menu if they are upset people ask about it. Once outside I see the business next door is a grocery store that didn't have anything visibly affiliating it with the ice cream shop- but maybe there was an old drawing somewhere advertising their collaboration I missed. read more

Loard's in P Hill is finally open! I love it! The staff is friendly, the ice cream is awesome and of course the location is great! The SF library is across the street, Good Life, Thinker's Cafe and the corner store are all within arm's reach. Expect to run into your favorite locals and neighbors since Loard's is situated near to St. Teresa of Avila, the preschool, Daniel Webster Elementary school and Potrero Rec Park. Ok this is the 2nd time I've been here. I've only gotten ice cream. The place is clean and quiet. The ice cream tastes great and there are many flavors to choose from. The guy behind the counter seemed a bit " off " and was not as friendly as last time. Last time I got two scoops and it cost 9.99 - and there was a fair amount of ice cream - you can go to the store and easily get a half gallon of good ice cream for that price - but it is a business so since there was easily three big scoops of ice cream the price was reasonable. Today I decided to just get one scoop that cost me $5.99 - and the portion was so small - I guess he doesn't want me back as a customer. I finnished the " scoop " in three bites and they were not big bites. The ice cream taste was just great - the quantity was ridiculously small. It was about the amount of ice cream I'd hive to a child five and under. Way, way, way too small of a serving - didn't know all of a sudden ice cream was as expensive as gold!!
