4.5/5 Of course I've been here and to the other locations plentttyyy of times, but I'm finally reviewing it! After an early dinner on Saturday, we walked right in with no line. The monthly flavors were pie related this time. They had two gluten free options coconut cherry pie and peach cobbler (if i remember). I got a single scoop of the peach one and it was delicious! Had some crumbles throughout and it kind of tasted like apple pie. The staff seemed nice but I didn't really interact with anyone. I will say, the small tables/stands inside were dirty but we didn't plan on using them. Took our ice cream to go. Can't wait to try next month's flavors!
Summer 2026 flavors were unique and great to try The Wildflower Honey and Lemon pie flavor was delicious. Really special honey flavor more than their usual Honey Lavender flavor. Other taste samples: Peach and Cream was very light flavor and not very peach forward The flavor was mostly crust for the Gruyère tomato tart, so it's not very cheesy Also the staff gave some conflicting information on how the rewards app works (so some additional training may help). But it's nice they finally have a loyalty program!
Would recommend this month's flavors- seems like a berry theme. I get Salt&Straw probably every month because I love it so much, and my most recent visit did not disappoint. I got a split scoop of the birthday cake blackberry and huckleberry oat crisp with foraged porcini (yes, mushrooms). Love that the staff were super kind with the samples at this location too even though it was very busy!
If you've never been to a Salt & Straw location, let me give you a quick rundown: They have rotating flavors, and you won't find your typical "chocolate, vanilla, strawberry" flavors. It's all mixed with something. So very crafty in that regard, which can cause choice overload if you struggle with that. They are very helpful in letting you try the different flavors, but they do keep the line moving at a steady pace, so I do recommend taking a few minutes to read through the menu first and decide what you actually want to try. Overall, good ice cream. If you're looking for a sweet treat, stop by and try. Special props for adding the caloric count in their menu! This makes a huge difference for those that are actually worrying about those and, seeing the difference between the flavors and sizes, will definitely help you make an informed decision! =)
Highly recommend the Apple & Cheddar Cinnamon Roll flavor! It's between sweet and savory, and I loved the chunks of cinnamon roll mixed into the ice cream. I'm not sure how much longer it'll be available as a limited edition flavor, so grab a scoop while you can! I stopped by on a Wednesday around 9pm and there was a small queue, but the line moved quickly. Service was friendly and efficient so it wasn't a big deal. I also spotted a yuzu flavor that looked amazing, but it was only available by the pint, which was a bit of a bummer. Guess I'll have to come back and try that one next time! Cheers!
How did I seriously never review this place?? This is one of my go-to dessert spots open late by SF standards. I love Salt & Straw and it never disappoints. My friend and I came here for a lil sweet treat after our grueling workout at F45 and post-workout dinner at Souvla. We both got the seasonal vegan coconut cherry ice cream with almond crust single scoop - me in a cup and her in a sugar cone. Sooooo good, this was my second time getting this flavor, and I wish they'd keep it on the menu forever. It's hands down my fave flavor from Salt & Straw so far. My friend remarked she couldn't tell it's vegan, so that's when you know it's fire. We're both lactose intolerant, so love love LOVE that this flavor is safe and satisfying for us to indulge in.

It's right next to a cool kid park too which makes it convenient for moms to take a break. There is no real seating inside and it's more like a to-go place for pick up. The line is long but moving. In $14, we got: - single scoop - honey lavender - 4/5 - decent lavender taste and not crazy sweet. Perfect kiddo dessert - subtle and does the work - single scoop - chocolate goey brownie - 5/5 - loved the smooth choco flavor swirled in with tender brownie bites. Heavy and yum!! Deducting 1 star for expensive - $7 a scoop wow!! Fyi - their vanilla scoop doesnt have eggs.

They let you sample their flavors, they have seasonal flavors and some really unique flavors. I tried their lavender honey ice cream and actually really enjoyed it. It wasn't too florally. The ice cream is very creamy and smooth. Their olive oil ice cream is very popular. Sounds weird, but surprisingly pretty good. It gets pretty busy, but if you're really craving it, it's worth the wait!
You can always count on Salt & Straw to smell like fresh waffle cones! I stopped by to use my free double scoop for using the app and enjoyed their berry pie and vegan princess cake. I wasn't sure I would like the princess cake, but the marzipan flavor was nice, I will say you could tell the cake part was vegan, but overall creative, rich, and decadent!

Their flavors are delightfully unique and I love that they allow you to taste test any of their flavors before purchasing. I tried the peaches and cream galette and should have tried more flavors, but as soon as I tried the strawberry honey balsamic with black pepper, I knew I had to get that. At first it seemed to be just the right amount of sweet with a tinge of tart and tang, but I think I would've enjoyed it even more if I had another flavor beside it to balance it. By the time I got to the last spoonful, the tang got to be a bit overwhelming. The portion was impressive (two scoops in a cup), but for the price ($7), it *should* have been impressive! I would definitely like to return to try more flavors, but I think I'll pay the extra to have two flavors next time!

Came specifically for the Chocolatier Series and tried the Chocolate Toasted Buttermilk Torte and Raspberry White Chocolate Cheesecake. Tbh this was not my fav monthly flavor but will be back for next month's! The staff was super friendly and generous with samples of the monthly flavors, which I always appreciate. The shop was clean. There are no sit down tables but a small standing area to enjoy your ice cream. Definitely a spot I'd come back to, especially to check out the rotating monthly specials.

I went at the end of August and they had a summer pie series with 5 different flavors. Their advertisement suggested to sample all 5 which was very generous. It was a cold and cloudy day so there was no wait when I went around 5pm. Staff, as always were nice. When I went to redeem a free scoop from their app the staff asked if I wanted a 2nd spoon for my partner which I thought was very thoughtful. We decided on the Gruyère and tomato custard tart. Both the Gruyère and tomato were light in flavor. I would have liked to taste more of each flavor. There were some hard pieces which I didn't really enjoy. It tasted and felt like the rind of the cheese. Tip: if you get a single scoop you can get 2 flavors or if a double scoop you can get 4 different flavors. read more

Worth the wait! Have tried coming here four separate times and finally made it when they were open and the line was mild. The team is hustling and gets you samples as soon as you hit the counter. Every flavor was unique and they have a fun way to dispose of your sample spoons (which are metal btw ) As a PB lover, I got the peanut brittle and my wife got the chocolate brownie. 10/10. Will be grabbing a pint of each next time. read more

I work in the Hayes Valley neighborhood. It's almost impossible for me not to head here on many of my dinner breaks. I love their seasonal flavors, but my absolute favorite is their chocolate gooey brownie. Today I decided to get it with their Pumpkin spice brownie sundae. I'm also a huge fan of everything pumpkin spice and Fall, so this really worked for me. My friend tried the chocolate Tacolet. Salt and Straw partnered up with Taco Bell to create a fun, new version of a choco taco. The best part is the Tacolet is served with two sauce packets, a mango jalapeño and berry cinnamon. The berry cinnamon was better than the jalapeño but they were both good. The service here is pretty good, but I'm always a little baffled. Every time I come here it seems like they have different staff. Not sure what that's about. I love the ambiance of every Salt and Straw and their merch is fun and interesting. Salt and Straw is one of the better ice cream shops in San Francisco. What makes their ice cream unique is that they often make unique creations with a blend of various ingredients including nuts, vegetables, etc. into their ice cream. They have a number of standard flavors and then another set of rotating flavors for each month. ' For the price, I think they offer a pretty generous portion, at least compared to some of the other ice cream shops in San Francisco that I have visited. One of my favorite flavors to try is their matcha which they no longer have as a "regular". Glad to see it come back as Creepy Crawly Critters for October which is a sweet green matcha ice cream. Ordered a double and included Strawberry Balsamic Honey for the other flavor. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the mood for ice cream. read more

We tried the vegan peanut butter chocolate, birthday cake berry (seasonal), and the vegan banana bread. Both vegan flavors were so yummy and you couldn't tell at all that they're vegan! read more
After trying S&S years ago in San Diego and falling completely in love, I always try and make a special trip to their scoop shops when I am on the West Coast. I know I can order pints from their site to ship to me, but at $15/pint I tend to just enjoy it for the treat that it is IRL when I can. I think my ice cream palate (and the ice cream boutique ice cream scene in general) has come a long way since 2019 when I last had Salt and Straw, or this scoop shop was simply having an off day. Everything I tried lacked the knockout flavor punch I expected. What I used to think was cohesive and thoughtful now just seems a little experimental for experiments sake. I went with the salted malted cookie dough and snickerdoodle options. There were so few mix ins and such boring flavor profiles in both scoops that I actually ended up throwing away some of my $9 dish while walking SFs steep hills. This could be a case of way too high of expectations meeting reality, but I also do think something gets compromised in expansion. Overall - it was fine! It's a fine spot to get ice cream if you want to enjoy the amazing neighborhood and take a walk. I will stick to my local churners here in Philly-land when the ice cream cravings hit, but grateful for the team at this location for the samples and service. read more

We were strolling through Hayes Valley on a Saturday evening. Great places to eat around there. They had live music in the streets too. Towards the end of the walk, we got hit with the smell of freshly made waffle cones. It smelled so good. We followed the smell to Salt & Straw. We noticed other people smelled it too because the place was getting pretty packed. It a cute spot with merch and ice cream. There's a security guard by the merch so it doesn't feel as approachable. I got in line. By the time I was called up, I didn't get to read the whole menu, but I ended up trying the one I wanted to get which was the coffee and nuts. It was so good I also tried the salted caramel ribbon and that was really good. A bit on the sweet Side. They'll let you sample a taste with these mini metal spoons. Then you drop it in a little spoon shoot when you're done. As they get your ice cream ready, they ask you to wait by the register to pay. The ice cream was so good and plentiful. We enjoyed it along the window inside. read more

Stopped by Salt & Straw and tried a few flavors before deciding on the Tacolate just to try something different. The flavors I sampled were actually really good, but the Tacolate itself was basically like a choco taco with a sauce that gave it a little kick -- and honestly I didn't really care for the sauce. Looking back, I definitely should've just gotten a scoop of ice cream in one of their fresh waffle cones because those smelled amazing. I'd still go back for the ice cream alone though. read more
I've always wanted to try salt and straw so I was so excited to stop by today! It was AMAZING. We tried so many different samples to decide on what to get, and settled on the creepy crawly critters and the coffee and love nuts. Loved the crunch. The creepy crawly critters was just matched with candied bugs which tasted like nuts. So good. The coffee and love nuts was the perfect bitterness. We wanted something sweet after dinner and found this place. And OMG!!! The ice cream here is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! Finn and Andrew were what made my visit here better. So friendly and nice. We got to sample lots of ice cream and decided on Strawberry with balsamic. And I forgot the the of the other one but it had black licorice. Both tasted so yummy. This might be hot take but I didn't find Salt and Straw to be anything special. My friend and I came at on a Monday night and there were a decent amount of people here. Joey served us and let me try different flavors. I found a lot of them to be too potent or not enough flavor.. there was no in between. I got a split scoop and got potato chip cupcake flavor and the strawberry coconut sorbet. It was a good balance of too much (potato chip) vs not enough flavor (sorbet). read more

Love!!! They have flagship flavors as well as a list of seasonal flavors, and they have a good mix of "more classic" v. really spunky flavors. They also have several vegan options. I ordered a single split scoop -- a vegan one with peanut butter, and a seasonal one (cornflakes with marionberry jam). It was like a cup of pb&j! They are also very generous with their samples, and I love that they use metal spoons. Definitely recommend a visit! read more
Salt & Straw is definitely in discussion for one of the top ice cream spots in the city. They have really fun flavors and also a monthly menu that I can't help but try every time. Even with their monthly flavors, I tend to prefer some of their classics, like Honey Lavender. It's floral, not too sweet and really refreshing. After grabbing food at The Bird, I couldn't resist stopping by Salt & Straw right next door for some ice cream. They never disappoint! I ended up with the Lavender Honey, which is my go to, after sampling a few other flavors which were also very good. What surprised me was that they let us do a split scoop in two cups! We were a little full from dinner so it was a nice surprise that they were so accommodating! The staff was super friendly and patient, even though we took our time trying a bunch of their creative flavors. If you're in the area, treat yourself to both The Bird and Salt & Straw. It's the perfect one-two punch of comfort food and dessert! read more

Recently we stopped by during their summer pie series and I debated between the gruyere and tomato custard tart and wild berry pie flavors. Loved the flavor of the tomato pie which was super interesting and unique but ended up getting the more classic wild berry pie which was a great mix of sweet and tart with pie pieces mixed in. Salt & Straw is one of those places I get why people love--it just doesn't quite do it for me. The waffle cone smell wafting out the door? Genius. They've got the marketing game locked down, and their seasonal flavors are definitely eye-catching. But once I actually try the ice cream, the flavors either feel kind of "meh" or veer into "this is a little too weird for me" territory. I can appreciate their creativity, but it's not what I'm craving when I want great ice cream. That said, the location is perfect--right in the heart of Hayes Valley, so it's a fun stop while you're exploring the area. But in a city with so many incredible ice cream spots, this one doesn't make my personal top tier. I can appreciate it from afar, but I'll be heading elsewhere for my next scoop. read more

Love the ice cream here. They are gracious about taste testing and friendly towards the kiddos. Happy to see they have merchandise again since last time they had nothing and we saw someone come in off the street and take a pint and walk out. The seasonal specials are an extra treat but the stable flavors are excellent. They keep it clean. Nice they use real metal spoons for the taste tests and my kids like to put them down the used test spoons down the chute. read more
