We had reservations for two people at 5 PM on Friday evening. We got to the front and the table was ready for us. Please note that some areas of the restaurant have extremely loud music from the deck above. We were kind of in the far corner, so it did not affect our experience. We both decided on having a lobster roll, and we both chose to add a cup of their haddock chowder, plus a side of fries The lobster roll was served in a typical, no England, grilled buttered Frankfurt roll, which was perfectly grilled and filled with delicious chunks of lobster meat. Solid on a Thursday night, out on the deck looking at the marsh. Call it a 4.3. A bottle of the white wine on special is $30, no brainer. Two pounds of steamers, still in the mesh bag. They're fresh and sweet, but could have used some TLC as they're quite sandy, even for steamers. We ask the efficient, friendly server for a second cup of broth, as our first gets a bit beachy. She's back in a flash. Main courses are no slouch. My 1.5 pound lobster is spot on, although the shell is unusually hard, or maybe it's the somewhat past its prime cracker that makes it a tough crack. Sides of asparagus and squash mash are not afterthoughts, they are perfectly cooked, if underseasoned. La Portena scored with a "bouillabaisse" - actually a cioppino (or cacciucco) as it's full of seafood, including a large chunk of lobster tail that more than justified the tariff. Nice view but the food was so bland it was almost inedible. Both the lobster dishes were extremely overcooked and also flavorless. I've eaten better microwave tv dinners. The cob salad was wilted and browning on the ends. The blackened haddock tacos were ok. Go for the beer and the view off the deck but avoid the food at all cost. Service was also slow. read more

When you come to the north shore, regardless of if you're a local or a tourist, you come to the area to engage in ocean-related activities, and of course, would want to end your day with a nice fresh lobster. Don't end it here! There are other reviews here speaking to the manager running around the restaurant with his shirt unbuttoned....i can attest to that. It's unbecoming, lewd, and incredibly unsanitary. I asked the hosts if that was an employee or a guest...they snapped back, "it's an employee, WHY?!" Do you REALLY have to ask?! I get that one would perhaps want a just-got-off-a-boat relaxed atmosphere, but after working in restaurants more than half my life, this is unacceptable on so many levels. Ok, fine, so after being up and out since 6AM, and after spending well over $100 on Ubers ALONE, we just read the reviews for this place and thought "hmm, sounds like a quality place, definitely a tourist attraction..." (I wish it was an an ATTRACTION, NOT a tourist TRAP!) After waiting OVER AN HOUR for what we THOUGHT was going to be worth it, was ANYTHING BUT.. We were exhausted, dehydrated, and STARVING... We had just gotten off a 5-hour boat cruise...tickets for the cruise were $50.... A1.5lbs lobster was TWENTY DOLLARS MORE THAN THAT! Seriously?! This is almost inhumane! And it's not like ownership has to pay premiums for oceanfront real estate...it's right off a highway! We looked for the cheaper items on the menu (about $30 even for the cheapest things, including appetizers).. Calamari---fresh, not salty at all (which was a good thing)...but also ALL RINGS, NO TENTACLES!!! WHAT?! Fish and chips: evidently it was good, but I couldn't taste anything after pickling my tongue with the salt on the salmon risotto...the rice was the best part! I couldn't even EAT the salmon! Luckily, our (DEFINITELY EXTREMELY OVERWORKED) server was nice enough to take it off the bill...but we felt terrible, and definitely tipped her MORE than if the lox (which is what it was) stayed on the bill...it's not her fault, and she was sincere with her apology. We missed the last train back to Boston, and had to spend another almost-$100 on an Uber allll the way back to Boston, where we would have been better with a McDonalds lobster roll. Up at 6am, spent an entire paycheck on Ubers And would have spent another entire paycheck on a dinner for 2 at a roadside lobster TRAP. I couldn't apologize ENOUGH to my girlfriend for wasting her/our time, when the needle on her energy gas tank was FAR to the left of "empty," where I really pushed for this restaurant and will NEVER return. I dream about their lobster roll! Large amount of lobster, so tasty, my all-time favorite - and I've tried many. Casual eatery, view of the marsh from the tables in back, great place for a group. Everything is so fresh and tasty, have tried so many dishes over the years - the spicy little necks in a Thai Chile lobster broth are to die for - we share this as an appetizer for 2-3 peeps, and ask for extra bread to sop up the delicious broth it comes in. We've taken various groups of friends and family here, and everyone always leaves happy. There are so many nice things to say about Lobsta Land, I'm not quite sure where to start! This restaurant is pretty much always jam-packed, which is understandable. Whether you're stopping by for Sunday brunch, a late-evening snack, or something in between, it's best to make a reservation (but if you forgot to call ahead, it's worth the wait)! Rotating taps, seasonal produce and fresh fish, and a perfectly assembled dish are all made that much better by the employees who seem genuinely happy to be part of this Gloucester family business. Even on the busiest Friday night they still manage to keep it together and (mostly) smile even when I can't decide between the cioppino or the mussels (spoiler alert: it's *always* the cioppino). tl;dr: best restaurant in town, bar none. read more

Our favorite place in Gloucester. Yes it's hard to get in but there's many reasons why. Friendly staff is like a big family and know many of the customers; the setting, overlooking the beautiful marsh is gorgeous; and everything we have tried from streamers, to coconut shrimp, creative salads, Portuguese haddock, Sole Meunier, fried clams etc is absolutely delicious. We live about a mile away so they're a top choice for special occasions. Reservations are a must in tourist season and on weekends. Service is great as is the food. The new deck allows outdoor dining with a great view of the marsh. Dining indoors, however, can be a bit crowded and noisy. Alas, many of the great murals by local artist Jeff Weaver have been lost to renovations. To me, this was like burning books illustrated by NC Wyeth. Over the years my wife and I have enjoyed many dishes there. She's a great fan of the Caesar Salad and their homemade dressing. I liked their original tuna stack (grrr they changed the recipe!) and have switched to other dishes (salmon, swordfish, fish and chips) in its absence. This place is FANTASTIC! We were in town from California this past week and were recommended this by a local. We asked to make a reservation as our group was 11 people and they were able to squeeze us in on the patio (which was great!). We ended up coming in a couple days later for a quick drink with just a couple of us and loved it just as much. Service was great (from the host to the server to the bartenders!), Staff was SO Friendly and accommodating. They had live music at one point on Saturday, great ambiance and delicious food. It's a large space. We were led to a table, but there was a table open right next to a window that we preferred. We asked to be reseated and the staff seemed annoyed by the request, which felt uncomfortable for us. The lobster roll was delicious. Large chunks, no fillers, and no heavy coating. I liked the calming view. I also received the biggest news of my life when I finished my meal (passed the bar exam), and the staff was understanding when my father forgot to wear his mask out of excitement about the news. They also did not rush us out when we paid the bill - they gave me time to cry it out and finish my congratulatory conversations on the phone. I'm giving 5 stars specifically for their seafood risotto and fried clam dinner. Our fried clam season commences, and I'm so happy the folks at Lobsta Land didn't disappoint. At all. My gosh, the clams were so sweet and fresh and tender--what stood out to me was how sweet and plump and juicy the meat was, just perfectly fried! For $28, they pile the clams high :D For clam lovers like us, what happiness it is to pop those first couple of clams in your mouth and have your taste buds immediately shoot the flaring signal to your brain, This is a good batch, Mate! Happiness is a heaping pile of perfectly fried clams, like the sort you can find at Lobsta Land ... just a 9 minute drive from beautiful Wingaersheek Beach where you and your mate had been observing seagulls eating clams. Oh boy, the seafood risotto input of this review is going to pale in comparison to my ode to fried clams but I assure you it is quite, quite, quite good with ample lobster et al. Went to this restaurant, a tourist from California, eager for good food, but very disappointed. Although the truffle French fries and the lobster were very good, the rest of the meal was a bust. The fried calamari was too chewy, clam chowder was too thin and the salmon and haddock meals were mediocre. Fish and chips was so-so, not moist and crisp. What a shame. Amazing food here. They have fantastic 2-lbs lobster and paella, and their Portuguese style haddock was great too. I highly recommend all three dishes and I guarantee it is worth their price. One caveat is that you should carefully choose when and where to eat. I recommend sitting OUSTIDE because inside doesn't have much noise blockers and it can be extremely loud. I came here with my parents around 7 and our ears started to hurt so much that they wanted to leave as soon as possible. Across our table, we had a party of 8 who were having a really good time with drinks and laughter. I cannot blame them for enjoying their time but I wished I was deaf. It is the perfect New England seafood eatery. Oh..they also have a nice large parking lot! Many places in this area offer street parking only so it was nice to pull into a place with a large spacious lot to park your vehicle. Then there is the inside . Rustic charm dominates and the atmosphere is warm and family friendly. It was quite crowded when we went but we only had a wait of 2 minutes! Now let us talk food. They have a pretty large menu. I was in the mood for clams(Whole Belly) so that is what I had. Their Whole Belly Clams..OH MY!! They are sooo good. Without a doubt the best clams I had in Rockport area. And a really nice portion size. You can get em on a roll and they will grill the roll for you. I was in Whole belly Clam heaven. I really was. Service was great as well. I think this was my favorite place in Rockport this time around. It is almost exactly what one would think of when picturing a quaint New England seafood establishment. So if you want great food in a great environment this is the place to be. It's yummy, family friendly, with warn and great service and lovely views. BREAKFAST REVIEW: It was my third time at Lobsta Land and my first time for breakfast. I had high hopes the food would be as good as the lunches I've had, however, I was disappointed. If you decide to come here on a Sat/Sun or holiday (like we did) make sure you make a call-ahead reservation. We only had to wait 10 minutes, but I wish we had reserved a table facing the wetlands behind the restaurant instead of the parking lot. We got two coffees, which the coffee was good but they only gave us non-refrigerated individual creamers like you get in hotels for creamer, which was super disappointing for a cafe that is specially serving breakfast. I expect fresh cream, as I'm sure most people do. For food, I ordered a $6 breakfast special consisting of 2 scrambled eggs, 2 pieces of applewood smoked bacon, and a piece of toast. I substituted the toast for potatoes because they didn't have GF bread. The bacon was too sweet for my taste and the potatoes were just that, cooked potatoes with seasoning. I really like home fries (crispy and hot) and these were definitely not those. The eggs were decent. My friend got a spinach, tomato, bacon, cheese omelette and a pumpkin pancake. She did not enjoy her omelette at all, as each ingredient inside was almost sectioned off and not mixed together before put into the omelette. She literally took a bite of her omelette and got a mouthful of full-leaf spinach. The least they could do was cut up the spinach, am I right? My friend did say that the pumpkin pancake was absolutely delicious! The service was lack-luster and we had to ask for waters with our coffee which to me should just be given every time. We were also given our check and were surprised the server didn't mention the additional $6 for the single pumpkin pancake my friend got--which she rang up as a "kids pancake breakfast." I would recommend Lobsta Land but definitely not all of the breakfast items. read more

Happy to find this seafood gem in Gloucester, the place was buzzing even at 3 PM in the afternoon with happy diners. Great location just off the main feeder highway, knowledgeable bartenders and waitresses who knew their product and made great recommendations. Started off the fun with a very good New England Clam chowder that needed just a pinch of salt and black pepper to kick it up a notch, plus a squirt of fresh lemon. Then had the Fish & Chips special with fries and onion rings, everything came out piping hot, huge portion, all crunchy and yummy.
