Excellent food, great views, and friendly staff. It can get noisy inside during the summer when it's consistently packed. Make reservations pretty much any time, especially during the height of the tourist season. They've extended their season deep into the fall this year, I really hope they keep that up in years to come. My favorite choices are the mussels, the fish stew, and any and all fish specials. Really though, you can't go wrong with anything they serve. Good beer list as well. read more

A long time favorite, but last night went totally over the top. We had a large family gathering, with a table for 10 plus a high chair. Although the parking lot was jammed as usual, our outside table was ready and waiting. The weather was perfect, with a glorious sunset. Our server, Courtney, started handing the baby a pack of oyster crackers as she took the beverage order, and things only kept getting better and better! His grilled cheese plate arrived quickly so he was happy. Everything was delicious, promptly served with special requests exactly on targe. Dinners were delicious and huge salads, haddock chowder, crab cakes, steamers, seafood platter, special seafood risotto ( so creamy and beyond delicious), lazy man's lobster, and one lobster roll. Later in the evening when the little one got impatient, Courney asked for permission to bring him a cup of berries with a separate cup of whipped cream. Took a detour thru Gloucester and saw this place. Decided to take a chance and we were extremely pleased! We started with a tuna tower appetizer, and our entrees included a lobster roll, whole Maine lobster, and fried clams and scallops. I thought the food and service were both excellent! After a long day at the beach, eating fresh food is the best way to end the day. Overall I had a good experience. It's not too busy on a weekday night, my waitress was friendly and helpful. This place never disappoints. Chock full of locals. I can't imagine this place in season. Make reservations, no kidding. Service was prompt and friendly. I ordered the lobster chowder, $32. Very awesome. Lots of huge chunks of lobster meat, one small claw meat. Some pieces were less than choice, but still very flavorful. If you can find better, let me know. I powered some bread and butter that was served with a pickled herb & caper spread. The alcohol free IPA was fantastic. It was a micro brew offering. Lemony, fresh and complimented my meal perfectly. Creme Brûlée for dessert was I no brainer. perfect with a whisper of caramelized sugar on top. I cannot wait for my next trip to Gloucester. Lobsta Land is must. read more

Went to Lobsta Land Restaurant a week and a half ago and ordered this, the "fresh catch of the day" for $35! It was a slice of tuna less than 1/2 inch thick. I felt totally ripped off (and hungry). Late lunch for 5 of us after a day at the beach. Lobster rolls with fresh large chunks of lobster with no fillers. Chowder was filled with clams along with potatoes. The chowder has a perfect consistency. Not too thick but nice broth. Steamers. Perfect. A shrimp with pasta dish was ordered by one of us and he ate every bite. Lack of communication. I checked in as a walking, I was told the wait time was 1 hour 30 minutos for outside sitting and I agreed. When the 1 hour 30 minutes were done I checked with the one more time. This time I was told that they actually meant 2 hours I was calm and agreed one more time. After 2 hours waiting I went to check and this time they told they have no idea how longer it will take. I asked am I at least I the next party? And they keep saying they have no idea. How come they keep us waiting for two hours and after that they don't have an idea if you are the next one on being sitting? We ended up leaving. read more

Have come here lots over the years. The food quality is always good. Servers are always very nice. We always make reservations, but lately have had to wait for tables to leave. Great place for lobster tho without having to go to Maine! Someone should tell them though - serving those rolls without browning them is kinda gross. The service was fine; always greeted nicely and server was good. The food was average at best. I have been eating the fish sandwich here for years and it has never disappointed. This sandwich feels like it was defrosted and cooked and it was from a third party vendor. It was too uniform. Very let down. Two lunches with no apps nor liquor 60.00 without gratuity. I don't mind paying for a good lunch and paying a good price, but it should be good. The ambiance is great outside. Inside it is alright. The staff is very busy as the place is crowded. Prices are kind of high and the lighting is very dim. Food is decent. The best dishes were the pasta with shrimp and the seafood platter. We were seated immediately at noon on a November Sunday so that was great. Food looked great but lacked as much flavor as it appeared to have. I do wish I took a photo. Shame on me. We brought my cousin from out of town. He wanted fresh seafood. On the menu Lots were listed at market price and we were prepared to pay. We live in Ipswich. My cousin had the fisherman's platter for $50. No complaints. Plenty of fresh and tasty choices on the platter. We even ordered a fried clam appetizer which cost $28. Very tasty and delicious. BTW my husband loved the fish tacos. The service was excellent. The True North beer on tap was pricey at $9. Other places are $7 or 8. The shocker was my lobster roll. Normally if I want a lobster roll, I go up to Beach Plum. But I'd heard that in the past LL had really good rolls so I figured what the heck. Frankly with covid, I haven't ordered the roll out in a few years. I was prepared for the cost but the roll consisted of maybe 3 claws cut in chunks. No tail. $37! I wanted to substitute the fries for the truffle fries. I was told they'd be extra and I was fine paying another $8. But when I saw the size of the roll and the total was $45 for the measly roll with truffle fries, I was disheartened. And, no, I did not say anything. We had reservations for two people at 5 PM on Friday evening. We got to the front and the table was ready for us. Please note that some areas of the restaurant have extremely loud music from the deck above. We were kind of in the far corner, so it did not affect our experience. We both decided on having a lobster roll, and we both chose to add a cup of their haddock chowder, plus a side of fries The lobster roll was served in a typical, no England, grilled buttered Frankfurt roll, which was perfectly grilled and filled with delicious chunks of lobster meat. It was not the biggest most overstaffed rule with ever had but I will say that it more than me satisfied - when combined with the five star fries, and the star of the show, which was the chowder AAA+++. Solid on a Thursday night, out on the deck looking at the marsh. Call it a 4.3. A bottle of the white wine on special is $30, no brainer. Two pounds of steamers, still in the mesh bag. They're fresh and sweet, but could have used some TLC as they're quite sandy, even for steamers. We ask the efficient, friendly server for a second cup of broth, as our first gets a bit beachy. She's back in a flash. Main courses are no slouch. My 1.5 pound lobster is spot on, although the shell is unusually hard, or maybe it's the somewhat past its prime cracker that makes it a tough crack. Sides of asparagus and squash mash are not afterthoughts, they are perfectly cooked, if underseasoned. La Portena scored with a "bouillabaisse" - actually a cioppino (or cacciucco) as it's full of seafood, including a large chunk of lobster tail that more than justified the tariff. This bowl really needed toasts - even places like Tonno and Feather & Wedge give bread with this dish. Otherwise it's a killer, packed with treasures of the sea. and a savory broth. When you come to the north shore, regardless of if you're a local or a tourist, you come to the area to engage in ocean-related activities, and of course, would want to end your day with a nice fresh lobster. Don't end it here! There are other reviews here speaking to the manager running around the restaurant with his shirt unbuttoned....i can attest to that. It's unbecoming, lewd, and incredibly unsanitary. I asked the hosts if that was an employee or a guest...they snapped back, "it's an employee, WHY?!" Do you REALLY have to ask?! I get that one would perhaps want a just-got-off-a-boat relaxed atmosphere, but after working in restaurants more than half my life, this is unacceptable on so many levels. Ok, fine, so after being up and out since 6AM, and after spending well over $100 on Ubers ALONE, we just read the reviews for this place and thought "hmm, sounds like a quality place, definitely a tourist attraction..." (I wish it was an an ATTRACTION, NOT a tourist TRAP!) After waiting OVER AN HOUR for what we THOUGHT was going to be worth it, was ANYTHING BUT.. We were exhausted, dehydrated, and STARVING... We had just gotten off a 5-hour boat cruise...tickets for the cruise were $50.... A1.5lbs lobster was TWENTY DOLLARS MORE THAN THAT! Seriously?! This is almost inhumane! And it's not like ownership has to pay premiums for oceanfront real estate...it's right off a highway! We looked for the cheaper items on the menu (about $30 even for the cheapest things, including appetizers).. Calamari---fresh, not salty at all (which was a good thing)...but also ALL RINGS, NO TENTACLES!!! WHAT?! Fish and chips: evidently it was good, but I couldn't taste anything after pickling my tongue with the salt on the salmon risotto...the rice was the best part! I couldn't even EAT the salmon! Luckily, our (DEFINITELY EXTREMELY OVERWORKED) server was nice enough to take it off the bill...but we felt terrible, and definitely tipped her MORE than if the lox (which is what it was) stayed on the bill...it's not her fault, and she was sincere with her apology. We missed the last train back to Boston, and had to spend another almost-$100 on an Uber allll the way back to Boston, where we would have been better with a McDonalds lobster roll. Up at 6am, spent an entire paycheck on Ubers And would have spent another entire paycheck on a dinner for 2 at a roadside lobster TRAP. I couldn't apologize ENOUGH to my girlfriend for wasting her/our time, when the needle on her energy gas tank was FAR to the left of "empty," where I really pushed for this restaurant and will NEVER return. Nice view but the food was so bland it was almost inedible. Both the lobster dishes were extremely overcooked and also flavorless. I've eaten better microwave tv dinners. The cob salad was wilted and browning on the ends. The blackened haddock tacos were ok. Go for the beer and the view off the deck but avoid the food at all cost. Service was also slow. read more
