"Linda Bean's Perfect Maine Lobster Roll" is not a restaurant nor a lobster pound/shack. It is basically a little sandwich stand that is situated next to the LL Bean Bike, Boat, & Ski Store (the Freeport location, there are multiple Linda Beans throughout Maine, we saw one in Rockport as well). It was actually a tad difficult to find as it is not right out in the open. We had to ask numerous people before we actually found this place (oh, don't trust the LL Bean Freeport maps, the location is not accurate at all at least this was the case back in October 2009). Onto the food. As you can see in the picture of the lobster roll, it comes with a side of chips (only choice is the salt-vinegar chips). The buns are lightly buttered and toasted and the roll has "a quarter pounder" of lobster meat (or so they claimed). Looks good? Yeah, but it wasn't up to par. Unfortunately, this was not our favorite lobster roll of the trip. Linda Bean has taken the liberty of adulterating the lobster meat with various herbs and spices that worked to almost masked the savoriness of the lobster meat. Tasted tangy. Before handing the lobster roll over to my grubby hungry hands, a weird concoction of spiced melted butter is also drizzled onto of the roll. All this is clearly visible in the picture of the roll. The end product is edible and not entirely bad, but for $16 per roll, I would pass next time around. They only make them one way and one way only, so if you like your lobster roll traditional and naked, this is not the place for you at all. Move along. . .

Doesn't taste as good as it looks.

The fried whole clams were not over-cooked and were juicy. This place is on the side of a road with outdoor seating, so if it's snowing or raining, you may need to eat in your car. I ate during the summer when the weather was good. The staff was extremely friendly when taking my order and it came out quickly. I am looking forward to visiting again and trying more of the menu, but a Lobster Rolls with Fried Clams or Oysters are my default order to try out a new spot, it shows the amount of lobster on a roll as well as their skill at frying. I wish that they were a little closer to Portland, as I will likely only stop by on my way to or from LL Bean in Freeport.

Food was good. I got the Rueben and up charged for small fries. Fries are shoestring type and were seasoned appropriately. Not sure if I'd at for an up charge next time and just do chips the corned beef is more of a shaving of it and I wish it had more flavor. Not sure if thicker cuts would help, just could put my finger on what was different. I hear and saw the Gf pizza strips and those looked amazing. We still love their smashburgers - you can get a signature one and you can build your own - they have really expanded options over the past 5 years. The chicken sandwiches are always so good. I recently discovered I loved the Jalapeño Popper Chicken sandwich. Their fries are always so great - especially if you have queso. Speaking of queso - one of the best things they have added to their appetizer menu...chips and queso- We love eating the leftover queso with our fries with our sandwiches. Chips have a lovely seasoning - sometimes a little heavy handed with flavor - but they are still delicious. I love their breadstick/pizza appetizer. it's more a focaccia bread and it's soooo good. Sometimes I just have that for my main meal. They have wonderful local beers in the cooler and wonderful sparkling non-alcoholic options as well. Don't forget to ask about their specials. In January we had the chicken curry soup - holy moly - it was SOOOOOO GOOOD!!!! And the warm pita that accompanies it. It's perfect. The shaved brussel sprout caesar is soooo good and VERY filling. While it's a small dining area - we have never found it crowded where there weren't seats. The food is just as delicious to-go. They do a ton of to-go orders. We will continue to be regulars (no less than 1x every couple of months). Don't forget you can earn Toastab Rewards!

Let's start with the cocktails, because they truly deserve top billing. I always order the seasonal espresso martini, and somehow it just keeps getting better. This time it was tiramisu-inspired, and it was unreal. Rich, balanced, not overly sweet, and actually tasted like the dessert without feeling heavy. Whoever is behind that bar knows exactly what they're doing. The fish and chips? You cannot go wrong. Perfectly crisp batter, flaky fish, and fries that hold their own. It's one of those dishes you order once and then find yourself thinking about days later. That said, everything we've tried over multiple visits has been consistently excellent. It's the kind of menu where you feel safe branching out because you know it's going to deliver. The space itself adds to the whole experience. The architecture is beautiful, with warm wood tones and big windows that bring in natural light and make the river views part of the meal. It manages to feel polished and special without being stuffy. You can dress up a little or come in relaxed and still feel right at home. And the service is always attentive in that effortless way. Our servers have consistently been knowledgeable, present, and genuinely welcoming without hovering. It makes the whole night feel easy.

It was about 11:30 and the place was getting busy. By the time we left there was a short line out the door waiting to be seated and the parking lot was full. We will definitely be back.
